Cities of Light; Paris to Prague, Viking Idun, June 2015

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Idun

My wife and I are just returned from our Viking River, Cities of Light Cruise, with two nights in Paris to start then river cruising across Germany via the Mosel, we boarded the Idun in Trier, the Rhine and ending on the Main, before bussing to Prague for a two night stay. Two nights in Paris is not enough, so I would recommend adding a few more days on the front end in Paris as well as at least ...

This was our first river cruise so had no idea what a small ship would be like. I was very pleased with the way we got on and off the ship as there were no lines with 175 passengers on the ship. We took every tour offered and the extra ones you can purchase. Enjoyed all of them with two standing out - a visit to a vineyard and winery - wine tasting was very good. Our other favorite site ...

'Revisiting Home'

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Viking Odin

This cruise was a gift to me from my husband, to revisit my roots. I was born in Basel, Switzerland and left from Le Harvre, France to immigrate to the United States of America as a child. My desire was to replicate the pictures I had from Basel, so this was to be an enjoyable cruise for my husband and I, but I was also a woman on a mission– to see and photograph my roots. Anyway– we were on the ...

The actual port of embarkation was Trier, Germany. My wife and I took the Cities of Light trip along with another couple from Paris to Prague. The crew were super friendly and very helpful. The program director (Claudia) was fantastic and very knowledgeable of the areas that we traveled. We found that the captain of the ship was very approachable and friendly. We were allowed to spend time in ...

CITIES OF LIGHT 10-14 with Prague extension

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Odin

Cities of Light is advertised as a 12 day cruise, an 11 night tour, with 7 nights on the ship, the other nights are in a hotel. The 12th day, the last day, is a travel day, and for those who have to leave the hotel at 5 am, a hell day; but all cruise lines do the same thing. I am sure that most people who have taken this tour have loved it, but for us, and I repeat, for us, this was not the right ...

Great shipboard experience - but too much like a bus tour.

We recently took the Paris to Prague cruise on the Viking Odin. While the ship and staff were exceptional, I would not recommend this particular itinerary. The cruise had 2 nights in Paris at Le Meridian Hotel. While at the hotel, the only meals included are the buffet breakfast. Day one is the arrival date for most of the passengers and day 2 there is a morning bus tour. Very early on day 3 you ...

The Idun is brand new and Viking has done a great job with the ship. The staff is well trained and tries hard.We really liked the itinerary, the pace and attention to care and detail.Guides were excellent. The entertainment brought on board was very good. Unfortunately we felt the food was inconsistent and rather mediocre. Very bland. Cuts of meat were often not choice. We were disappointed ...

This was the 3rd sailing of the Viking Idun. We sailed on the Tulips & Windmills River Cruise in April 2012. Our cruise had people from the US, Canada, UK, Netherlands, and a few other places, but the bulk of the passengers were clearly from North America. The ships staff was very international, with folks from the Netherlands, Philippines, Slovakia, and many other places. English was widely ...

Maiden voyage of Viking Idun

I am a single male senior, apparently the only one on this cruise. I am told that only 6 of the 90 cabins were occupied singly. I have sailed on over 30 ocean cruises, but this was my first river cruise in Europe. The flights, arranaged by Viking, involved a change of plane in Madrid, which was not how I expected to get from New York to Amsterdam. My transfer to the ship was in a ...
