“Passage to Eastern Europe” was our 3rd cruise with Viking, after France and Rhine and with no doubts was the BEST one! The itinerary gave us the chance to explore a part of Europe with a fantastic rich history and enjoy some breath-taking landscapes during well organized tours with excellent and informative guides. Viking LIF is elegant and stylish like the other Viking long ships but what made special this trip was the excellent crew. Our cabin stewardess Anna manage for 7 days to keep our cabin sparkling and made us feel like home. Maybe the amenities or the available space in the cabin are not at the level of other companies (Viking is cutting corners since our last trip) but Anna kept everything under control being a charming presence and incredible efficient. From the very first day we realised that Viking is trying to save money in the restaurant too. The food didn’t have the same standards and the quality was clearly under what Viking offered in our last trip. But at the end of the day the excellent service in the restaurant with the professionalism of Bogdan and the grace of Elena made every meal special. We missed the presence of the concierge on board but fortunately the team from the reception manage to help us in organised some extras during our trip. Ankika was great always smiling and happy to help. Above all the biggest asset of Viking LIF was our Program Director Leonard. We travel a lot, both ocean and river cruises but we never had the chance to meet somebody so special like Leonard. His extraordinary, almost encyclopaedic, knowledge of history, traditions, legends, geography made every daily meeting and lecture a unique opportunity to learn about this part of the world. Leonard had a great sense of humour and the mixture between personal experience, anecdotes and facts gain every evening a full house for his daily presentations (maybe, as a suggestion, the presentation should be broadcast in the cabins too as was never enough space in the lounge when Leonard was talking). After 7 days we didn’t manage the find how Leonard was able to be everywhere in every moment to help, chat, explain or joke! And was not only our opinion but Leonard made this trip GREAT for everyone on board. He can work in any other cruise lines around the world and will be a pleasure to meet him again. Watch out Viking don’t lose him if you want us back! Read Less

We got a great value for cruising on Viking. Every aspect of our cruise was outstanding and well organized, including switching ships because of low water on the Danube. Program Manager, Stefan, was more than outstanding, including assisting my wife with her infected finger and getting medical attention for her. The little perks, water given at every port and excursions, welcome back drinks upon our return, maps of the cities and towns visited, free time after excursions created quite an experience. My wife and I have ocean cruised 16 times on various Cruise Lines, many not our choice but selected by the group we're traveling with. This was our first river cruise and one longer than a week. With the small ship we were able to meet those with whom we traveled as well as those not part of our group. I have posted about 2000 photo images of our cruise on my photography website, www.1stimage.com. Select the green zenfolio button to reach 13 galleries of our cruise. All staff was outstanding, food more than outstanding. We could not have had a better experience. We will cruise with Viking again. Read Less

My adult daughter Kim and I took this cruise as my gift to both of us to celebrate her milestone birthday. Previously, each of us separately had been on ocean cruises. However, we chose an adventure on a small vessel that held a couple of hundred people, not thousands. Kim picked the Rhine River Cruise. We were at our starting port in Basel, Switzerland, only long enough to be graciously welcomed aboard the Mani, our long ship. While we ate our delicious dinner, prepared as always by our professional chef Peter, we sailed to Breisach, Germany. After breakfast, we went to the Black Forest on buses, which met us at every port during the entire cruise. On the way, our tour guide told us about the history and culture of the fields we were viewing. Most interesting was the annual farming and harvesting on June 24 of white asparagus in this verdant valley and others just like it along the Rhine. At the top of one of the thickly forested mountains, we watched glass blowers creating exquisite works of art and clock-makers creating intricate large and small mechanical and battery-operated cuckoo clocks. The next morning back on the Mani, we arrived in Kehl, Germany. That morning we took a guided walking tour through the streets of Strasbourg. After an excellent buffet lunch on the Mani, we boarded our buses for the fascinating Alsatian Wine Tour & Tasting excursion. That evening as we were entertained in the lounge after an excellent dinner we sailed to Mannheim, Germany. In Mannheim, we boarded our tour buses to see Heidelberg Castle, which sits above Old Heidelberg. Touring it with our very knowledgeable tour guide was a wonderful learning experience. The old city was an absolute joy in which to walk and shop. Kim and I each bought cuckoo clocks there. At about 5 pm that evening, the Mani, arrived in Rudesheim. Kim and I went on a self-guided tour of the city and then met our fellow travelers at the Rudesheim am Rhein Beer Garden. With our indefatigable program director George, we ate and drank, sang and played silly games, and danced the night away. Then we boarded a mini-train that took us back to the Mani. It’s George’s job as program director to make sure that all members of all excursions are safely and securely accounted for as we board the Mani in every port. This is by no means an easy task. It’s something akin to herding cats. To his immense credit, George lost no one in any port along the way. The next morning the Mani left Rudesheim for Koblenz. All morning, George gave us a grand guided tour of the 16 castles along that part of the river known as the Middle Rhine River. He told us, among many other fascinating facts, that out of the 16 castles, two are owned by private individuals. Kim is certain that she was meant to be one of those owners, surrounded by steep hand-harvested vineyards just as they have been for 2,000 years. While Kim went on the grueling tour of Marksburg castle that afternoon, two fellow passengers and I went on a self-guided walking tour of Koblenz, which sits in the triangle made by the confluence of the Mosel and Rhine Rivers. Koblenz means confluence. An exceptional highlight of the cruise was touring the Cologne Old Town Cathedral and St. Martin’s Church which we did in the morning, followed by a non-group lunch and a self-guided tour of Cologne, accidently ending up at the Kolnishches Stadt Museum and seeing the history of Cologne in pieces of ancient armor, old tools, modern newspaper articles, and a city-model of 1571 Cologne constructed in 1913 by cartographer Arnold Mercator. We shopped briefly on the way back to the intersection where our buses were waiting to take us back to the Mani. That evening Kim and I enjoyed another fun-filled night participating in the Beer Culture Tasting tour with a well-versed and full of fun beer expert. We went to three different breweries and tasted each of their unique beer in small glasses. We were delightfully entertained with interesting facts and jokes while eating a delicious dinner in the second brewery. It was a memorable, perfectly guided, and well-planned evening. The next and last day of our cruise we arrived at Kinderdijk Village, South Holland, about 15 km from Rotterdam, at about 4 pm. There we learned how and why windmills were made. These structures, built in 1738, are so effective, we were told, the surviving 28 (of the one-time 150 total) would have rid New Orleans of its flood waters in two days. The following morning, we ate breakfast and said goodbye to our wonderful servers and cleaning crew, the distinguished and able captain and his crew and left the Mani for the last time for our plane trip home from Amsterdam. From this Rhine River Cruise, Kim and I got exactly what we had hoped. A week of wonderful memories with a small group of people, on a ship that was always perfectly maintained, a program director who never showed fatigue, a chef who always prepared delicious meals, a serving crew who were impeccable, a lounge entertainer Robert who provided excellent live entertainment, a captain and crew who made us feel safe, and perfect weather too. Being I was alone, I wanted a smaller ship with a smaller number of passengers. Viking had the European Cruise I wanted & a the ship size, plus the accomodations were excellent. The food, service people and the planned port & excursion trips worked beautifully. I would most certainly plan another river cruise with Viking. The seating arrangement worked out well for me. I got to sit with different guests at the smaller table of 6 and got to know people quicker. The staff was more than helpful when I lost contact with my phone or i-pad to keep in touch with my family. Two couples I met , more or less took me under their wing because this was my first cruise and they were well traveled. From not knowing anyone on the first night to becoming good friends before the trip ended was a wonderful experience! The staff all spoke english and went out of their way to be helpful. Read Less

There were many things that made this cruise a great choice. There was very little daylight time spent on the water and when there was, the staff made it an event. Overall, having worked in customer service, project planning and operations, I recognized that this cruise was well planned in every detail. My sister and I very much enjoyed the larger cities. The unexpected delight was in the smaller towns. The entire dining staff accommodated my dietary restrictions. Special thanks to Alex, Elvin, and our chef on this. Our house keeper Janet was always friendly and incredibly effective. She realized I had allergies and provided me with extra tissues without my asking. The program director, Dan, was engaging and effective. We went on included, optional and our own tours. He gave us plenty of options for taking our own side trips. He also offered a new optional tour called Vienna Up Close which was excellent. All the guides were great and the Up Close guide was the cream of the crop. Thanks again to all the Viking Vilhjalm staff for a wonderful trip. Read Less

We chose this cruise initially because of the very reasonable price offered, and we did enjoy the whole package. The food on the ship was excellent. The only thing we were not happy with was the size of the room; it was very, very small with extremely limited closet space; much smaller than an inside cabin on a cruise ship. Really, it would have been ok for only one person. The entertainment was fabulous, the ship service great, and the ports and included shore excursions were very informative. We might go again, if the price was right. I would have given it 5 stars, except for the room size. Getting on and off was a breeze, but security was a little lax because in most ports almost anyone could get on-board without anyone checking their credentials. Shopping was great, and we actually found a Woolworth's Department Store at one of the stops in Germany. Read Less

We were impressed with the Captain down to the dishwashers on the ship. The cabin was ample for our stay. The heated bathroom floors was an extra. The tours and guides were experienced and very knowledgeable. They were priceless when they went into the local customs and sights. There was lots of excercise walking for those of us who could. Those who were less mobile were accomodated and that were also be able to participate. The bus drivers were awsome and excellent drivers. There was a miniture golf and other activities on the top deck for all to partake of. We did golf and some shuffle board. The weather was cool so we did not stay topside when it was cold and rainey. The captain was a very interesting man and was very knowledgeable about the Rhine River. He was easily approachable and explany thing about his experience and the ships capabilities. We wanted to sail down the Rhone River and sample Rhone wine. We like Viking cruises but we were disappointed with not getting to taste the various Rhone wine during our meals as we thought. They kept serving us this Merlot almost every night. The excursions were all excellent. The night town tour in Viviers was excellent except the tour guide was going so fast, she left my husband and me behind. I just had knee surgery 7 months before so I was bit slow and they didn't have a leisure tor for this one. I found out that the French balcony was better value for us. I had a balcony this time and it was not worth it. We were also facing the street side rather than the river which was where the view was. All the places we visited were excellent. We stayed 3 extra days at the end in Nice and that was fabulous. We had an incredible view from our room of the Mediterranean Sea. We could see the sunrise and sunset from our balcony room. We took a day tour to St Paul de Vance and 2 other medieval towns and it was wonderful experience and our driver/tour guise was so accommodating. It was Viking's back up tour. The major one they used would not take just the 2 of us but their back up co. did. We had a private tour. When we left the Viking rep accompanied us to the airport right to the correct counter. I wasn't expecting that. Read Less

China seemed like a daunting destination to do on our own, so we decided to sample it with a reputable company, Viking. The trip was beyond our expectations! The entire time we felt like we were very special VIPs. Viking thought of everything. It was a relief to just let go and enjoy the experience of such a different culture. The hotel accommodations were 5 star luxury, the food was excellent, the river cruse portion was pampering, the staff was very attentive to every need, the excursions was informative and wonderful. I would recommend this to anyone without hesitation. Go see China with Viking! The tour group is broken in several smaller groups. The tour guide you are assigned stays with your small group of 20 the entire trip. You feel like you become this little family. Our tour guide, Jamie, was the best. She told us many storied and explained Chinese culture to us in a fun way. Even when we flew, the airport experience of easy. Jamie got the tickets, we breezed through security, off to the gate, waited 15 minutes to get on the plane and off we went. Wow, wish we could do that in the US! I would recommend this tour for anyone from the mid-20's on. Read Less

The food was outstanding, well prepared and wonderfully presented. We can't say enough good things about our experience....in fact we took photos of the entire ship to convince some of our friends how superior Viking was to Vantage (their cruise line of choice). I have been on both and Viking is head and shoulders above Vantage. I think, after seeing my photos and my ravings of how wonderful Viking is, you will get several new customers. The tours and their guides were very informative & interesting. That is one reason we like river cruises because it is all inclusive. Read Less

I chose the Rhine Cruise as my birthday present, and because I wanted to revisit some of the places I had been to in the 80's. Air travel to Basel and from Amsterdam was tiring as it required 2 plane changes and a 4 hour layover each way. However, my flights on British Airways were very comfortable. The ship was very nice, small (200 passengers) and offered an intimate experience with the other passengers and crew. All the meals were excellent; but the dinners were superb, with great appetizer, entree and dessert selections. During the afternoon gatherings in the lounge, the chef would describe each item being presented for dinner. Several evenings the ship still docked, so I was able to have dinner in town. The other evenings the ship was cruising during dinner which offered great scenery. The scheduled excursions into the city/town/village were excellent and very organized. The ship's crew were always very engaging, energetic and happy to assist with anything I needed. I am looking forward to my next cruise in 2018. Read Less

The experience was amazing. From the moment they met us at the baggage claim in the Amsterdam airport to the moment they dropped us off in Switzerland to return we were treated like royalty. The ship was clean and beautiful. The three meals a day were over the top delicious. The included excursions were wonderful every morning. They even sent you off with a bottle of water and an umbrella if it was raining and always welcomed you back with a small snack or at least a warm towel to wipe your hands. The rooms are compact, but that is to be expected on a narrow ship. The ports are wonderfully situated for walking around beautiful little European cities. There was entertainment on board in the evenings. The ship was set up with wi-if, which was wonderful for keeping in touch with family back home. I would go on another, and plan to, as soon as finances work for me to do so. Read Less

Had a friend who had taken a river cruise in Germany. Very impressed with Viking and taking another ocean cruise in May 2017. This river cruise was after a 7 day cruise on the Delling. Enjoyed Delling more mostly because of the place visited in southern France. Staff and facilities on both ships were excellent. Staff seemed to anticipate guest needs. The food was superb and chef and staff very friendly and helpful. The cabins were comfortable and bathroom and shower were above average. Enjoyed Normandy the most even though it was a long bus trip. Gave us enough time to see all the sites and do any shopping we wished to do. Paris was so large and could only do a limited number of tours but feel received best value for tours I was on. Also Paris was very crowded. Loved Notre Dame and had the best shopping. The guides on the tours were all very knowledgeable and very friendly. Overall a very wonderful vacation. I have always wanted to go on a Viking Cruise - the ships always seem very luxurious. There was an itinerary which attracted me - Amsterdam to Budapest - which I could just afford. My travel agent got me a good deal so I was hooked. The cruise was all I expected and more. My cabin was small but all I ever use such accommodation for is a bed, a shower and somewhere to hang my clothes. It fitted all these and was cleaned every day. Indeed the whole staff were always helpful and cheerful. The food was top of the range. There was not a bad meal from breakfast through lunch to dinner. There was no set table so you could move among the guests as you wish. The choice of meal was usually three starters (At lunch this was a serve yourself choice) although you could have what was on the menu. There followed three main courses including a vegetarian choice each day and the desert was usually a calorie uncontrolled delight. At lunch and dinner you were offered wine / beer / soft drinks of your choice none of which were stinted. If all this was too much there was a separate dining area which served much simpler food. The entertainment was fairly simple - an excellent pianist plus the occasional local singers and/or dancers during an evening. There was an included trip at each port of call plus, if you wanted additional trips at a cost. Some of them I felt were a little highly priced. One or two of the trips could do with a review as they either duplicated an earlier trip or were not quite how they were described in the brochure. I understand some of them were new expeditions which may account for their slight failings. We were occasionally held up at locks and for five days we could not go on the upper sun deck because of the height of the river and the lowness of the bridges. My one regret. I had looked forward to being sat on the upper deck at the Chain Bridge in Budapest at night but, out of the control of Viking, it was the weekend of the Red Bull Acrobatic Plane Race and, because of "Health and Safety" we had to park quite some distance from the centre of the city and I didn't chance to do this. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it to every one. Read Less

My husband and I sailed on the Viking Skadi Longship from 24 June to 9 July, 2016. Here are major observations and comments: - It was the BEST TRIP we have ever taken in our lives! - The Viking longship, Skadi, was spotless and the crew took meticulous care to keep the entire ship clean and shining. On two separate occasions, I saw room attendants literally cleaning the grout of the shower with toothbrushes. They visited us 3 times a day to prepare our room for the day or evening. Their housekeeping staff is exceptional. - Everything was superbly organized from start to finish. We were given clear instructions on each stop's disembarkation and embarkation procedures. - Our local tour guides in all the cities were just great. With English as a second language, they were easy to understand and the use of the QuietVoxes allowed you to hear and not have to strain to listen. - The Veranda Stateroom we had, had more than ample room with a hanging closet and several drawers in a dresser like cabinet. Bedside tables could hold magazines, books, etc.The bed was comfy with high quality duvet, bedding and pillows. Lots of space on which to place toiletries, makeup, etc. It came furnished with a hairdryer and high quality shampoos, conditioners, body lotion and body wash. It also had a safe for storage of extra money, passports, etc. The bathroom had a wonderful shower and overall provided the needed room to prepare in the morning without wasting space. -The FOOD!!! Oh my gosh, I could write pages about this aspect alone. We ate primarily in the dining room for breakfast and dinner. Sometimes we would visit the Aquavit Terrace where they had a light meal buffet going during the same meal hours. The choices we had in the dining room always included a meat and/or fish and vegetarian dishes. We found the meals to be well prepared in terms of flavor, 'doneness" and portion size. If for any reason you wanted more of something, they were happy to provide it. Our wait staff was not only incredibly knowledgeable about the menu/food choices, but happy to try to accommodate alterations. Both wine and beer was provided at no extra charge and some of the wine was from local sources along the river. Dress on the cruise -- i brought a couple of fancy tops to wear at dinner with slacks or skirts I wore during the day and felt completely comfortable. There was no formality to this cruise unless you wanted to dress up which was perfectly fine. During the day, wear comfortable clothes and most importantly, shoes. You will be walking a fair amount on most of the tours and many times on cobblestones in the older sections of towns. Anything that gives your feet good support and base to walk on should be fine. Mix and match as much as you can to make good use of your packing space. No one pays attention to what you wear every day so wear things multiple times just like you might at home. On board laundry services are available but we never felt we needed them. - Viking Staff --- I cannot emphasize this enough. The Viking Staff were outstanding and truly exceptional at taking care of you. Our program director, Gary, was friendly, knowledgeable and was very precise in giving you instructions each day about boarding tour buses, getting back to the ship, etc. That and he was also just hilarious. Our cabin attendant was friendly, unobtrusive and a hard worker. She kept our room sparkling every day no matter how messy we were. Our wait staff...well, we fell in love with them. Courteous, fun, efficient, and their eyes were constantly on what they could do to make our dining experience even better. Reception and concierge staff -- Friendly, accommodating and available to help you with any unforeseen circumstance. Chef and Staff -- Executed and delivered every dish to perfection. On the 4th of July, the Pastry Chef even made a special USA Flag cake for us to celebrate our holiday with at dinner. Entertainment - We didn't participate in a lot of the on-board entertainment as we were usually interested in just sitting outside on top of the boat when possible and having a drink. However, we did enjoy some local German opera singers that came on board to sing, watched a very interesting glass blowing demonstration, learned how to make apple strudel (perhaps enough to feed 150 people), and listened to one of the most fascinating lectures on the history of Austria. You can participate as much or as little as you choose. No one judges! Shore Excursions - There were several people that had visited some of the ports before so they opted for additional excursions. We stuck to the ones included in the price of the trip and were not disappointed. In each port, we got to see significant places of interest, whether it was a castle, a cathedral, a quaint historic district, or a historic place like Hitler's Rally grounds in Nuremberg. Some were definitely more interesting than others, but all were done incredibly well. The visit to the Windmills at Kinderdijk was fascinating. If you've made it this far in the review you can tell our experience was fantastic. The one area I haven't mentioned is the opportunity to meet some incredible fellow travelers. After about a week, we found ourselves being a part of a core group of 10 of us. We would have dinner together or tour together or just generally hang out on the boat together. These friendships have continued since we've been home even though we are spread out all over the U.S. We have even talked about trying to plan a trip together again. How better can you speak to an experience than to feel you have made unexpected friendships forced by the bond of a truly remarkable experience of traveling together on a Viking River Boat Cruise. Ports of call on this Rhine River cruise intrigued me for years. Previous experience with Viking indicated it was the way to go. Room was comfortable ,very clean and better maintained than many hospital rooms I have seen. Meal choices were varied with far better than expected quality. Wine selection was very good. The cruise line did not skimp or try to make additional money at the expense of quality. The crew was perfectly trained and very conscientious about handling customer demands and requests.. Ports of call were well organized and interesting. The company had available a grouping for passengers with disabilities which would not force them to keep pace with younger and better conditioned passengers. Optional tours were selected with well versed guides and where dining was part of the tour, food was as good as or better than shipboard. It gave one a chance to experience local music and culture. Security was not an issue. At ports of call each person returning to the vessel was checked before being allowed to board Read Less

This was my third cruise with Viking, having sailed with them to China and Germany, and I really wanted to see The Netherlands and Belgium. I had such a wonderful time on previous cruises, I knew I'd have a grand time on this one. Amsterdam was wonderful, as were all the cities we visited. I was traveling alone, but never felt alone as all the other cruisers were welcoming and friendly. The ship was the Viking Gullveig - it's just beautiful, with every possible amenity one could ask for. The crew was friendly and helpful, and I felt very cared for. My stateroom was large, with a queen size bed, lots of closet space, a huge TV, and was kept spotless by the room steward. The included shore excursions were well planned and very interesting. I can recommend Viking without reservation - it's dependable, affordable and the best river cruise in my opinion. I would go again in a heartbeat! Read Less

The cabin was spacious enough, and was better laid out than any other cruise ship we have been on. The dining was excellent, the portions were just right; we were not "overfed" which was a plus. The entertainment was delightful with much of it being local performers. The entire staff and crew were friendly, helpful, and courteous. The included shore excursions were excellent. We spent two days in Budapest before we embarked, so we should have skipped the Budapest tour. The embarkation and debarkation process were made easy and seamless. We have already scheduled another Viking Cruise for September 2017. Everything was very good - friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, quality of the excursions, cleanliness of the ship, and quality of the food. It could not have been better. We especially enjoyed being given water in our room and as we exited for an excursion. Perfect vacation. Read Less

We wanted to cruise the Danube and see this part of Europe from the water. The cruise exceeded our expectations. It was extremely well organized, from soup to fish as the Brits would say. Our British host was funny and charming. The food was outstanding. All the cruise attendants were friendly, helpful and went the distance to be sure we had a great time. The extra tours were also well worth it. We had a back stage guided tour of the Vienna museum by the most knowledgeable docent who had been guiding for 20 years. One of a kind tour. The two abbey tours were also most interesting and we were delighted that some of our tour dollars were going towards their restoration. My husband really enjoyed all the locks we went through, and there were a lot. So not just pretty scenery; good infrastructure/engineering fun as well. We can't wait to do it again, in another location. We are looking at the Rhine cruise, to see more castles! Read Less

I made this cruise with a long time friend who loves to travel, loves Christmas, and loves to shop, like me! Our transfer to the longship went off without a hitch. Our ship was the Skadi. What a wonderful crew! They knew our name, attended to our needs promptly and with a smile. The ship was terrific and we loved our cabin which was Stateroom 305 on Veranda (A) The port and shore excursions were terrific. Loved the listening packs. So helpful! The guides were locals who really knew about the area and gave interesting tidbits which made it even more interesting and gave us a real connection with the city/town. We loved having the time on our own and instructions were always clear as to how to get back to our ship or the pick-up bus. The time schedule was easy for us and we had time to do everything we wanted with out stress or hurry. We thoroughly enjoyed all the entertainment evenings as well. Sharon and I met some wonderful people that we enjoyed hanging out with. Our transfer from ship to airport was easy tho it left so early that it was still too dark and we would have loved to have enjoyed the views on our way to Munich. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!!! It was a memory of a lifetime with a dear friend. Best river cruise I ever made! (Out of 3, & one of those was a Christmas Cruise as well) Thank you! Read Less

We (the Aussie girls) did the Rhine River Cruise recently & loved it. The crew were great & our cruise director worked tirelessly throughout the cruise. We had to change ships (VE to Gefyon) in the middle of the cruise due to water levels. Wasn't looking forward to that but it was so well organised you would hardly know you changed ships apart from the packing & unpacking. We were compensated for that by Viking taking all the guests to the music performance in Vienna which was wonderful. Overall we had a great time & met some lovely people. Read Less

This was my first river cruise. I had never been to Europe. I had to go by myself as my friends could not afford the cost. I felt I got my money's worth and more. From the minute we landed in Germany I had no trouble locating the cruise staff. The bus ride to the ship in Passau was very smooth and I enjoyed seeing the country side. I found the staff on board very impressive. Quite a few of them called me by my name and always spoke. Since I was alone I had a single cabin. I am a tall person and was concerned about the bed which was a pull out couch. The crew went out of their way to make sure I had another mattress put on the couch which was very comfortable. I thoroughly enjoyed the port excursions. The travel guides were very informative. I loved the history and the scenery. I had been concerned about the food but it was very much to my liking. The wait staff were very good and attentive. The diembarkation was very efficient and I had no trouble. I would highly recommend this as a form of travel. I probably will not go on the large cruises again as I found this to be a very gentle and peaceful way to travel. Read Less

We traveled on the new ship Viking Skirnir. What a lovely ship. We were treated at the gangway and introduced by the crew who took our cases on board and we checked in and they took our luggage to our room with us. This ship was its 6th trip. Our suite was just amazing with all the things we hoped for. We could not fault a thing. We toured around the top deck where they have a walking area and a golf area for putting,as well as a deck with lovely chairs and tables. We found the staff always willing to help if you needed it. They organised all our day trip activities with ease. We had Joey as our host for each day's planning he was funny but very professional. The entertainment was enough at night the paino player could play anything good dancing music. Our tours out each day were well planned and we had plenty of time to explore for ourself if we wanted to. The meals were lovely and the staff really looked after everyone. This river cruise is very different to a ocean cruise so do not expect a theatre for your entertainment. We all fitted in the dinning room at once for our meals, and the tables you could choose where ever you wanted to go t. From memory they were settings from 6-10. I think we had 196 on our ship. We could not fault the staff and the ship had everything we hoped for and more. For I think it was two days we could not use the top deck to sit out on as we had a lot of low bridges to go under, but there was seating on the 2nd and 3rd decks so it was not a problem. One must put up with this as the bridges are quiet low in places. Can not wait to do another cruise with Viking..I would suggest you start at Amsterdam and arrive at night time into Budapest the lights were stunning coming into Budapest. Almost all the folk were on top deck when we arrived into Budapest, camera flashing all around us. Read Less
