We paid for our cruise with all the expectations of neophyte river cruisers and are crushed that our river cruise of a lifetime ended up being a horrible bus ride through Eastern Europe.
Due to mechanical malfunctions on the Viking Embla our tour was unable to hold to schedule resulting in canceled excursions, creative docking at unknown sites (we even had to break through a factory fence at ...
Viking River Cruise on “Embla:” Bucharest to Budapest w/ 3-nt Prague Add-On
Overall:
Terrible experience with Viking aboard their boat Embla due to major maintenance issues known to them before our cruise started. Half speed at best; little to no air-conditioning with room temperatures ranging from the high 70s into the 90s. The dining room felt even hotter with everyone assembled. This ...
Hello, tufftwo71. We recognize that you were among the guests of Viking Embla who experienced delays and hardware issues during your travel with us. While mechanical issues do sometimes...
My husband and I have taken many many cruises, but never a river cruise. This cruise on Viking was hands down the worst we have ever taken. In fact, it was the worst vacation we have been on - period. Our room was extremely tiny and at times, smelled like a sewer. There were unusual loud gurgling sounds coming intermittently from the hallway, which we have never heard before. We had heard that the ...

I don't know where to begin with this review. Before we started the cruise we understood that low water levels may sometimes affect the itinerary so we were prepared for that. What we were not prepared for is what actually did happen.
From the time we boarded the Embla to the time we got off the buses in Budapest the trip was a disaster. Viking knew before we ever boarded the ship that it was ...

We shared this information with Viking. Nothing significant was done. We booked through and they have also been advocating for our group (3 couples). Customer service at Viking is not empowered to do anything. A decision was made “by Executive”, that provided 50% of our “cruise fare” as a refund. Unfortunately, there is no backup or detail on any billing to indicate what “Cruise Fare” is. ...
We appreciate you taking the time to provide the details from your experience, johnyland81. While we share in your disappointment at delays encountered during your sailing, it is regrettable...
We had a good experience on a Viking Ocean Cruise and had not done a river cruise before. Viking gets high marks in that category, so we were excited to try it. However, we have been very disappointed.
Our ship, The Embla, has been experiencing severe mechanical issues, that Viking was well aware of, prior to our boarding. In the interest of “the bottom line”, they didn’t disclose this, they ...
Viking as always made this land and river travel comfortable and easy. The person that made everything so easy and rewarding was Leo, the guide that was assigned to our small group. Leo was so accommodating, knowledgeable, proud of his heritage he made every part of the trip interesting and informative. In addition he was continually making sure we were comfortable and enjoying the experience. It ...
We always have wanted to experience Asia. We chose Viking to do that knowing that they are the best in handling all details of your trips. This was no exception. While we were only on the ship for 8 days the rest of the time we toured Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Wuhan plus Guilin and several others. Every meal ( except for 1) was well thought out and delicious. Our meals on board were some of ...
We wished to visit China and this was river cruise was 6 days out of 15 days total. The river cruise was o.k., the dining and meals on the Viking Emerald were surprisingly good and service was good. Our standard room and bathroom were very tight, I recommend upgrading the room. The Yangtze River is not very scenic, much of the cruise time was rather bland and the facilities at several of the ...
This trip was a 17 day land and river cruise tour which included visits to Beijing, Xian, Lhasa in Tibet, a six day river cruise down the Yangtze involving numerous stops along the way,and a final stop Shanghai. The overall logistics required to accommodate the needs of each our group of 31-beginning with our differing arrivals in Beijing, hotels, tours, 4 domestic flights within China, ship ...
