RHINE RIVER CRUISE (2023-09-24 TO 2023-10-02) EMBARKATION 9/24 UBER driver arrived 10 minutes early than 5 AM reservation but that was fine. $2.90 airport surcharge, booking fee $9.14, reservation fee $5.00. LAS to ATL went off without a hitch, wheelchair was waiting right in the jet way and took us to the Delta lounge. Then arranged wheelchair to go to the gate for CDG. CDG is a maze ...

Viking Should be Consistent

This was my 5th Viking Cruise, second time doing the Rhine. Our very first Rhine Cruise was July 2015. Wow! Viking has changed! Many of the optional excursions were included in 2015. This time not much offered. Too many shuttles being used to get to towns and back to boat. The service has gone down. We weren’t even recognized for our 5th cruise! They did have a cocktail party for returning guests, ...

The first half of this cruise was terrible. We had Viking arrange our travel and will never do that again. We paid the extra $100 for air plus ($200 total) which was a total waste of money. No one ever contacted us about our travel and they booked the worst flights we have ever had going overseas. It took 18 hrs and we missed the entire of the first day of the cruise. The first stop was ...

Not So Grand European

We wanted to experience the view from all 3 rivers, however Viking closed the upper deck for 6 days. I understand why but we would have selected another itinerary had we known this. My biggest dissatisfaction was the fact that the reason we take Viking is for their Enrichment and Shore Lectures. None of this existed on the River. The Aquavit Terrace that is advertised as another restaurant ...

We are two retired college professor in our 70s, and this was our first river cruise. I cruise a lot, on Crystal, Seabourn, Celebrity and Princess. We would not river cruise again. The Good: The crew on this ship is beyond wonderful. They do everything in their power to make your cruise worry-free and enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the lounge piano player George, who added a welcome source ...

Disappointing Danube River Cruise on Viking Idun

Great ports of call, however, not enough planned excursions or time in ports. The ship has to go thru 25 locks, so there is a lot of time sailing and just looking at the sights from the deck. The food was good, not great and the wine was poor, with no choice only white or red. There were only two nights of entertainment, first and last (the best) and so there was a lot of down time in the ship ...

Great Expectations

We have never booked a holiday so far in advance as we did with this cruise from Budapest to Nuremburg. The numerous lavish television advertisements gave us the expectation of great things to come but in some ways it flattered to deceive. The various city tours were reasonable but too much of it consisted of a bus tour with the guide pointing out points of interest. In a place like Vienna with so ...

Idun--not without its issues--food and service below par

Viking Idun Amsterdam to Budapest--July/Aug 2012 My wife and I are somewhat regular cruisers on Regent, Seabourne, Seven Seas, Oceania, Princess and a few other lines, so we have some basis for comparison. Over 90% of our fellow cruisers were new to Viking, and most were from the US, Canada, and UK, a few people from Australia and New Zealand. Bottom line,we will not cruise with Viking again. ...

I suspect, with delays in construction, our ship was rushed into the water for the start of the tulip season in the Low Countries - without the benefit of test sailings and dry runs. How else could Viking explain the many glitches on this beautiful new ship. So, with mechanical failures.....an engine breakdown, water outage, non-functioning thermostats and other smaller problems,....we had to ...

Viking just didn't care

This 9-night Tulip and Windmill cruise is fine for what it does include (nice tours) but very poor for how Viking handled the whole experience on the Idun - during and after the cruise. BTW - We loved our first trip with Viking so the changes in attitude were a real shock. Check for photos on Flickr.com from the Idun trip in the public areas in the Viking River Cruise group or search Viking or ...
