This was my 5th Viking Cruise, second time doing the Rhine. Our very first Rhine Cruise was July 2015. Wow! Viking has changed! Many of the optional excursions were included in 2015. This time not much offered. Too many shuttles being used to get to towns and back to boat. The service has gone down. We weren’t even recognized for our 5th cruise! They did have a cocktail party for returning guests, ...
The first half of this cruise was terrible. We had Viking arrange our travel and will never do that again. We paid the extra $100 for air plus ($200 total) which was a total waste of money. No one ever contacted us about our travel and they booked the worst flights we have ever had going overseas. It took 18 hrs and we missed the entire of the first day of the cruise.
The first stop was ...
This was our third cruise with Viking and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Viking’s cruises are 5 star in my opinion. We have been spoiled by their service in all areas!
The included excursions at each stop are excellent, however, we have enjoyed the optional excursions as well. The guides for each excursion are so knowledgeable in the area and we’ve always learned so much at each ...
While we were the youngest people on the ship (in our 30's) - we absolutely loved sailing the rhine river and experiencing different countries by unpacking once! we didn't have to think about what we were going to do at each port - great free excursions, and absolutely fantastic upgrade excursions. we did opt out of a handful of excursions to go explore on our own (i.e. Renting e-bikes on our ...
This cruise was top notch. There isn't one thing that we did not enjoy. The crew and staff were outstanding. They treated you with respect and remembered your names when they saw you. We arrived in Amsterdam in the late morning, met our friends on the deck and relaxed with some wine. There was a buffet lunch and then they offered a walking tour of Amsterdam which was interesting. After our tour we ...
We traveled from Amsterdam to Basel. When in Amsterdam, we stayed at the Okara hotel, which was five stars and close to local transportation. This was our second Viking River Cruise, and it was just as wonderful as our first. We made many friends on both cruises. . Sailing down the Rhine was beautiful and peaceful, watching the castles and vineyards go by.
The staff on board are very friendly ...
This was our second cruise with Viking and I believe Viking has the best staff/crew of any cruise line. They make the cruise truly enjoyable and always make you feel welcomed. The scenery while cruising the Rhine is beautiful. One thing to consider when taking a river cruise is how good of shape you are in, most of the excursions recquire a lot of walking and over cobblestone streets or, in ...
We had always heard from friends that Viking was the way to go when we visit Europe and they were right. We went on the Rhine Getaway and was able to see four different countries in eight days. We extended our trip in Amsterdam by two days. Everything was first-class from the food, tours, staff, locations visited, accommodations, etc. The tour guides were locals who knew everything about the area ...
Very enjoyable trip. They will plan everything for you. Some ports were right at the city center and others were a bus ride away. We did several individual excursions and Gavin, our cruise director, helped us with planning to make sure we were safely able to return to the ship particularly if it moved ports during the day. With that, if the ship is changing ports during the day then it moves ...
This was our 2nd Viking river cruise, the first being in France. We had high expectations since we had a great experience last time, and we were not disappointed. The ship, food, and staff were all excellent. Shout outs to Chris, Dali, Darwin, Darrin and Jules especially as we had a lot of interaction with them. Loved Cologne and Alsace. Would have liked more time in a couple of the places, ...
