This was our first cruise and we could not have been more impressed. Everything Viking did was 1st Class. We loved the crew, food and excursions. The 3 wonderful meals a day were plenty but if you needed a snack, there was always cookies or muffins along with coffee, tea or hot chocolate. After dinner, there was some type entertainment every night. We were impressed with how the staff was able to remember our names and room number. The cruise director did a remarkable job coordinating the daily tours and the entertainment every night. The captain was always available to answer any questions and help you if needed. All of the tour guides they gave us were nice, funny and informative. When needed, Viking had some nice modern busses to take us on our excursions. We purchased discount vouchers to use on our next Viking cruise. We can't wait to go back again. Read Less

I have been on a Viking Cruis previously and enjoyed it immensely. I wanted my husband to be able go on a cruise and he chose Rhine getaway!! It was enjoyed by both of us and we had a great time away as a celebration for our 40th Anniversary as well as for my husband's retirement fron teaching a year ago! We enjoyed everything about the cruise. It was enjoyable just looking out at the scenery while we were cruising. The Rhine is a working river and it was nice to see all kinds of boats cruising along. One of the highlights of the trip was the Top of Cologne Cathredal tour. It was very interesting and informative about the history of this Grand Cathredral! The view from the top was amazing and the tour finished just as the sun was setting. Well worth it!!! The people we met on the river cruise were very interesting and you could have a meal with someone different every day or have a meal with some of the people we found most interesting. The historical sites we visited were amazing and to think of how many years ago some of these places existed was mind boggling. We truly enjoyed our time on the cruise and everyone of the crew and staff were really wonderful and so welcoming. When we were away for the day it was nice to come back to the boat and see familiar faces to welcome us back! It was a really memorable experience for both of us and will look forward to going on another cruise in the future! Read Less

We like meeting new people from different parts of the world and experiences. We traveled with family, first timers, and friends that are season travelers to make the trip truly exceptional. All had a good time and are going to do this again in the future with Viking. We loved the stops and history. Staff was fabulous and well organized. Greeted with welcome and smiles. The tours when completed allowed us free time with bus pick ups to return to the ship made it easy and cost effective. The nightly themed food was terrific! The serving amount was more than enough. With the included adult beverages at lunch and dinner with desert, we are glad we are to walk off the added calories. I did notice that the amount of hand sanitizing prior to entering the dining area was not emphasized as in past cruises, this to us is very important to make sure no one has any problems. Read Less

We had a great time, as usual with Viking. For this trip in September, the weather was terrific. The chosen ports showed us a great "slice" of places along the Rhine River. We love Viking River and Ocean Cruise ships, with wonderful service and attention to detail. We enjoy NOT being asked to pay for extras. There's always an excursion, at no extra cost, for every port -- although you can pay for some other options. Wine and beer are served at lunch and dinner -- at no cost. All staff do their jobs effectively and with a smile. On the downside, you do not get much time allotted to see the starting and ending ports on Viking cruises. It pays to either get the pre- and post-cruise excursions OR schedule with Viking to fly in early and/or leave later in order to visit those cities. BUT, we are spoiled with Viking and don't plan to cruise with anyone else -- unless it's a place Viking doesn't visit. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we were able to see so many beautiful cities and travel down three rivers in a relatively short amount of time. Additionally, most excursions were included--which is not the case on most cruises, and the excursions were wonderful! Since the ship was small, in most cases we were within walking distance between our ship and our destinations, which made it easy to go back and forth between the port and our ship. Buses and shuttles were also included, so we didn't have to worry about getting lost or left behind. Since the ship was designed for only 190 passengers and 50 crew members, we got to know most of our fellow passengers and crew very easily. Having less passengers also meant that we never had to stand in line for meals or wait for seating. The crew was outstanding...catering to all of our needs. We ate gourmet meals with most drinks included. Our cruise director was outstanding--presenting informative programs, demonstrations, and small scale entertainment, which made the whole experience more personal and enjoyable. Finally, we felt very safe and secure traveling on a river cruise, where we could see the shoreline! Our captain and the riverboat crew were excellent navigators. The cruise was wonderful! Read Less

Our 2nd viking cruise. Quality and extremely friendly ,helpful staff. We have booked a 3rd cruise for June 2018. Loved the history and information that we learnt from all of our local guides. Enjoyed the free time to "investigate"on our own. A good balance of organized and free time. We stayed in the pre tour town for 2 days and 2 days in the post town. Was so lovely to get off of a long flight and be met right at the elevator and taken to our superior hotel. Loved being picked up at the post hotel and taken right to our airport gate. Took all of the pressure of trying to arrange it ourselves. The food was AMAZING. Would you believe we took photos of the wonderful menus and of the food. The presentation, quality and variety of the food was wonderful. Probably the best thing was that after 12 days, I returned home not having gained a pound. We met great people and still are in contact with some of them. Read Less

Coming from Hawaii I wanted to see as much of Europe as I could and I like the idea of unpacking one time. The smoothness of the river journey made the trip even more enjoyable. When we on board we didn't even know we were moving. Except for the stunning scenery passing by. Visiting the towns, castles and countryside were exhilarating. The meals on the boat were exceptional. It made coming home and having to cook painful. LOL We were very impressed with the crew. Working with the public is not easy, but the Viking crew was delightful. They were always so friendly, helpful and personable. We stayed on the second level and since we were not in our cabin that often it served its purpose. Mainly sleeping. I was totally amazed at the cleanliness of the boat at all times. We really had to schedule time for the various activities on board. Like the glass blowing demonstration. All the activities on board were well Every time we reached a new port we were amazed at how easy the disembarkation and embarkation went. Even when we had to pass over another ship. Read Less

The total experience is wonderful. From the very start when we were on the dock, Viking saw to our every need. The food is excellent. The atmosphere on board the ship is relaxed. The dinning is relax and free form. The tours offered on the ship were first class. I have take other tours in Europe and have had guides with PhD conduct tours. The guides that Viking provided were just as skilled as any I have had before. My children played the board game Trival pursuit, the version on the Hlin is from England, is a little hard to follow. I think you should get an American version of the game. Armin Hermann is very warm and engaging. He sat and talked with me several times. My adult children were on the trip with me and my wife. I was concerned that they might be bored, but they had a great time also. Read Less

I loved the cruise. A great way to travel. Very relaxing. Programme Director was superb! Food was excellent. Included day trips were well selected and guides were well prepared and knowledgeable. Timing was good. Tour group sizes very good. Selection of places to dock and location of docking was excellent and close or in the towns. The crew were very friendly and helpful. Information sent beforehand was helpful. We organized our flights with Viking and asked for aisle seating. I got aisle but my friend who also asked for aisle was assigned an inside seat. For long flights that is not fun. I am not sure why the mix-up occurred and complained when I talked with someone after. It makes me concerned about future planning of seating. It was helpful to have booked through Viking and paid the extra $50 to make the selections that we did. Good work guys! Read Less

As Marriott Destination Club owners, we worked with Marriott to book this cruise. Outgoing flight was with KLM (very cramped and crowded). Arrival into Amsterdam was smooth, with Viking agents in the baggage area, taken directly to boat and settled in quickly. Our cabin was a Veranda Level cabin (3rd deck toward the stern). Room was very nice, with a veranda that accommodated 2 chairs and a small table. We sat out there on sunny afternoons as the boat cruised through beautiful vistas. Meals were very flexible, either buffet or table service. Every offering was excellent and servers were great. The head chef took a personal interest in every passenger, and it was demonstrated in his fare. We received an upgrade in our drink package, and the beverage selection was superb. All tours were professionally guided and handled well...no rush and very comprehensive. The only disappointment was the Mercedes Benz factory tour. It turned out to be at a time when the factory was partially shut down and the "guide" was a young woman who was more interested in finishing the tour than providing us with a good experience. This tour was $ optional and we voiced a complaint, with Viking fully refunding us for the bad experience. The best tour was with a professional guide to the Audie Murphy Colmar Pocket stand, an amazing and comprehensive tour highlighting his incredible wartime survival through overwhelming odds against German troops (do not miss this tour). Our return trip to the U.S. was on British Airways, much more comfortable going home. Our experience was so great that we purchased ahead Viking dollars for future Viking cruises, at a 50% discounted rate. Definitely our best cruise to date. Read Less
