Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Rinda

Originally we were supposed to take the Russia River Cruise with Viking, so we had to choose an alternate cruise instead. This one sounded great as it included many ports that neither my husband nor I had been to. The Transylvania add-on was also a big motivator. We enjoyed the pre-cruise stays in Bucharest and Brasov, nice hotels and great locations. Once we boarded the Rinda, thinks began to ...

This was our first river cruise, having been on around 35 ocean cruises. We had heard a lot of good things about a river cruise. It’s a way to see out of the way places one otherwise would never get to. You are in Port every day. There are no “sea“ days! This is actually a really good thing, because the ship itself is extremely spartan when compared to ocean cruises. There are basically two ...

Mainly to see Budapest and sail on the Danube. Staff was amazing and were always accommodating. Disappointed in some of the small towns in Germany. Would not sail to these towns again in the future. Weather was not good, lots of rain which put a damper on the excursions. Main portion dinners could have been bigger. Sometimes I ordered two main courses because they were ...

Don't waste $1800 on a balcony cabin on a Viking Riverboat cruise on the Danube

We sailed on the Viking Rinda for the Danube Waltz cruise on April 3, 2022. The cruise was only disappointing in that we wasted $1800 getting a balcony cabin which we found out was NOT worth the expense. First of all, the balcony's are very small - 3' by 5' - barely enough room to sit in a proper chair. Secondly, and most important to us, the riverboats tied up to each other in the ports at ...

My wife's father was in the D-day invasion and we wanted to visit the Normandy beaches. Pros of this line and ship: Excellent staff Good itinerary Good food Clean Excellent handling of air reservations and pick up and drop off at airport Informative enrichment programs Cons Wi-Fi is not secure Staterooms were tiny Only four TV stations: Sky Sports 1 CNN Fox News ...

The Heart of Normandy

We chose Viking's The Heart of Normandy in the fall in order to see Paris without the heavy tourist population of warmer weather and also to travel in Normandy. First of all, the ship's crew and the cruise director were all faultlessly polite and efficient. They performed flawlessly and were superb. The issue is that this is the cruise that wants to be a cruise but isn't. This was our 3rd ...

Viking versus Uniworld

I have been on two river cruises in Europe with two different companies and can't help but compare. While we enjoyed our cruise with Viking, I felt Uniworld was a better experience. First, as others have noted, docking in Le Pecq instead of Paris is very inconvenient. Their smaller ships can dock in Paris, so why not ditch the longship and dock in Paris? The shuttle Viking provides to/from ...

Disappointment but Maybe Another Chance

The adverts looked very appealing...and the time fit in with a visit to Italy. We were disappointed that the boat was NO WHERE NEAR PARIS...and their offered tour of Paris was more or less a drive by view from a bus. Being a fairly seasoned traveler, I was forearmed and our group was able to schedule our own time pre-cruise in Paris thereby enabling us to spend more quality time at must see ...

Good Rinda, Bad Rinda; Pay for gold, get bronze.

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Rinda

1. Summary: After reading & watching the Viking advertisements and paying top dollar, we were disappointed; we paid for gold, but the Vikings delivered only bronze. We did see a lot of Paris and we did see a lot of other parts of northern France. However, the itinerary could have easily been adjusted to give more time in Paris, Versailles, and Normandy and less time in little villages/towns that ...

Not Really in Paris!

We returned from our Paris- Normandy cruise on May 25th. We were on the Rinda. It is one of their newer ships- so we were obviously looking forward to that. Unfortunately, the fact that it was newer- and longer than their other ships- had a negative impact on the cruise. If you are taking this river cruise (Paris – Normandy), you will not be staying in Paris. You will be a minimum of 40 ...
