This is a pretty ship however, we were in CODE RED for the majority of our journey as there was a GI outbreak on the ship. This ship is odd, there is an unease among the crew on this vessel. You never see any of the officers or anyone socializing on the ship. The dance bar is near empty at all times. It's just a very very dull ship. I mean I'm all for elegant but 2 weeks with a near pin drop quiet ship is a bit much. It felt like God's waiting room. I may be old but I'm not entirely dead yet! I would have like some life on this ship. They did the odd thing where they have the staff on the gangway clapping in your face like a bunch of indentured servants deprived of their breaks. I also saw officers and cruise directors etc. working the gangway which would seem to make it appear that they don't have enough people working on the ship and have to use these people to hand you hand towels etc. Seemed very odd. This just wasn't a happy environment and that combined with the GI outbreak on such a new vessel, will send me elsewhere for my next cruise. Nice concept Viking but you've taken quiet ship to a new level and made it dullest ship on the sea. Not my cup of tea. Also the entertainment on the ship is very minimal and it looked as though our entertainers had just gotten out of school, very simple shows, not great compared to other lines like Oceania or Regent. Clear they did not put much money into it. I just expected more atmosphere and quality of entertainment. Read Less

I have sailed a lot, probably close to100 cruises. On Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, I have spent over 360 days. But I was so impressed with everything about this voyage, I’m not sure I ever will go back to any other line; I think I have found my new home on the seas. embarkation and disembarkation both went very smoothly, a benefit of sailing with only 900 other passengers. This was not only the first and last day of the cruise but also for every port we visited. We were in Suite 4000, a ES1 category. Before sailing, I looked at the diagram for the owner’s suite on deck 7. I wondered if I would have wanted or needed everything provided in that cabin. Once we boarded and were settled in our suite, I was perfectly happy and would not have wanted to move upstairs. Heck, even the lowest standard cabins on Vining Ocean are better than many higher-level cabins on other cruise lines. I have often been a Grills passenger on Cunard. The Queen’s Grill on QM2 is considered by some to be the best restaurant at sea. Although Wiking does not offer dishes prepared table side, the quality and presentation and variety is equal to the food on other ships. Open dining was a delight and we never had a wait, It was nice to have the alternative dining restaurants and not have to pay extra. The rotating menu at the Chef’s Table was a deal. We ate there five nights during the month we were on board. Wine (which was not bad) and beer (which I don’t drink) were free during meals and I never paid for non-alcoholic beverages and coffee away from the restaurants. I consider it a benefit not to have a casino on the ships, photographers always wanting to take your picture, and on the shops on board lining the hallways as they apply their wares. I loved not having announcements every hour. The lecturers were very good and well-versed to discuss their topics, especially the port talks. Evening stage shows were above-average and well attended, but not the glitzy performances produced on larger ships. At least one excursion is free in every port. I participated in some of those and they were fine. The optional, paid excursions were well run and educational. Good variety of options. The gym is good, plenty of machines. Never crowded. A great spa and - since the line is Norwegian - great sauna, jacuzzi, ice water buckets AND a snow grotto. Imagine a snowball fight in the Suez Canal, I can’t say enough to complement the Viking professionals who made this such an enjoyable adventure. I liked it so much that I already have booked a one month journey next summer. I am sold on Viking! Read Less

1st Viking cruise. Travelled Adriatic Sea from Venice. Did the pre cruise hotel stay at Hilton Molino Stucky and enjoyed the hotel and location despite it not being in Venice proper. Embarkation was smooth and we enjoyed our first meal in the World Cafe. That became our favourite venue for dinner as the aft deck was wonderful to sit out for dinner and catch the sail out and the sunset every evening. We did have a gourmet dinner at Manfredis one night but could not resist sampling the delicious offerings at the World Cafe. The supervisor Casper came around each evening to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and had what we wanted as did the rest of the wait staff. The ship is stunning from bow to stern. We tried to check out each area and the Explorer's Lounge was a favourite for a relaxing drink while following our path. Viking has thought of everything a cruiser might want and some they don't even know they want. Our cabin was starboard 3rd deck. We treated ourselves to room service every morning and enjoyed coffee on the balcony as the sun rose in all our ports. Our cabin attendants Arvin and Rustille kept our room spotless and were in tune to our needs for sure. Lots of storage space in the cabin and bathroom. I took a hanging storage item but really did not need it. Amenities were wonderful and plentiful . Lots of USB ports and plugs. We had a mix of included tours, optional tours and private tours and were pleased with all we chose. They were very organized to get us all off the ship and in our proper busses and one day they had a big dance party to welcome us back! Always provided water to take with you and cold cloths to welcome you back. I really can't speak about the entertainment as we were always too tired to attend the events. Up by 6, breakfast at 7 and off the ship by 8. The heat necessitated a rest and a shower prior to dinner which always ended at 9 when the sun went down. After that it was back to the cabin to enjoy a drink on the balcony and look at the stars. The port talks are available on the TV which we watched at our leisure and they were repeated in the theater as you waited for your tour to be called. All the staff could not have been more professional and hospitable. Smiling as they go about their day offering to help you in any way. I trust they enjoy working for Viking. Do not hesitate to travel with Viking however do your research to determine the type of cruise you desire. If it's a huge pool and recreation, gambling and glitzy shows look elsewhere. If you want personal service, gourmet dining, relaxation and top notch port excursions then consider Viking. Read Less

My wife and I were eager to try Viking as we've heard multiple stellar reviews (from friends and family both). As someone who has in the past been on a lot of cruises with multiple different cruise lines I can sum up our experience on this cruise by simply stating it exceeded our wildest expectations in every category and has ensured two new Viking customers for life. The ship itself is stunning, beautiful and spotless with hidden treats throughout (the planetarium and the snow grotto were two of my favorites). The food was consistently excellent and to my surprise we found ourselves frequently eating at the World Cafe simply to allow us to sample more choices (and as the location was so comfortable)! The lack of crowds anywhere on board was a special delight (especially compared to prior cruises), and on multiple occasions we felt as if we had private reservations to wherever/whatever we were doing at the time. I cannot praise the crew/staff highly enough! There was such authentic friendliness and attention to detail from everyone we interacted with. We were able to talk with the cruise director 1 on 1 multiple times and were never made to feel like anything we asked for or needed was an imposition (even if we just stopped them to chat we were never made to feel as if they had somewhere else to be). The head chef came out to check our happiness with the food (spoiler alert: we were!) multiple times as well, even stopping to chat with us at the tea service in the Wintergarden (which we went to every day!). The caliber of service so thoroughly exceeded anything we expected that again I cannot stress enough how impressed I was. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the entertainment. I've experienced cruise entertainment a lot in the past and pretty consistently find it to be sub-par. Based off the smaller passenger size of the ship I was expecting more of the same here and was yet again pleasantly surprised to discover otherwise! The shows were quite entertaining with some impressively talented singers and a special mention to the musicians as well (the classical duet was especially delightful!). The number of included services (free wi-fi, shore excursions, alcohol with meals, etc.) was also appreciated (nice not to feel nicked and dimed) and worth a mention. The Spa was a treat after a long (and hot!) Shore Excursion and here especially the lack of crowds really showed! Overall, we enjoyed every moment of our (all too short) experience on board the Orion and are counting the days to our next cruise with Viking! Cannot recommend Viking enough! Read Less

We have taken two Viking river cruises and wanted to experience an ocean cruise with Viking. We were not disappointed!! It was even more than we hoped for in every aspect! T We enjoyed some time in a Villa before embarking. The new ship had everything we could have asked for in the line of amenities and entertainment and gracious living! We were spoiled!! We especially like the spa, infinity pool and the daily afternoon teas. The shore excursions were handled very well and very educational. Our post extension in Athens was equally fantastic-sights, food and always help from the Viking Reps. The ship's food was fabulous and the entertainment was first rate. Embarkation went more smoothly than we thought possible. Our cabin, a deluxe veranda, was spacious and very comfortable. We traveled with two other couples and our rooms were adjacent to each other. Whenever we were in port, the staff came to turn down the veranda dividers so we could all visit without leaning over the dividers- we didn't even ask for them to do this. The staff and crew were always smiling and in good humor- at the ready to help and make our cruise a memorable one! And it was!! . Read Less

The trip was splendid. Two years ago, we took a marvelous Viking river cruise up the Danube that covered the eastern side of the former Yugoslavia (now Serbia & Croatia), so we chose to go down the western side (Croatia and Montenegro) when we saw that the Orion was going to make the trip. Having lived in Europe for about 10 years, and having been to Venice and Athens 3 and 4 times, we found visiting them again was splendid as we got the opportunities to observe change as well as explore other locations within those cities. We found our shore excursion guides in Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor, and especially Olympia, to be superb. The visit to Corfu, while not "awful", was not up to the standards set by the other visits. The service by the crew was especially good, be it for the cabin, dining, activities. The "entertainment", particularly its academic side (be it astronomical or historical reviews of destinations) was first rate--not too much and not too little. We especially liked the libraries. The gym and the bars were first rate. Viking, by holding its passenger size down to less than a thousand, has made the trips reasonable. I travel to the Caribbean islands about once a year (but not by ship) and am astounded by several vessels coming in, each carrying multiples of thousands. The same goes for visiting cities like Venice and Athens. I fear that too many people at one time may ruin a good thing. So would I go again? Rivers? Definitely! Seas and oceans? Not so sure... A friend of mine recommended Viking as a way to visit Italy. I'm so sorry this is the path we chose. Onboard- jr. Penthouse is a fantastic room and clean. Other than that, I am NOT impressed and more than dissatisfied with the service, & ship amenities. The pool is EXTREMELY small, no casino, no evening entertainment (other than various musicians in areas of the ship), restaurant and buffet hours are limited & CLOSE EARLIER THAN HOURS LISTED. The guest services personnel ARE not informed of the various tours available & "waitlist " you if a tour is full. Waitlist means nothing other than you'd like to book it but can't. They have no regard for the traveler with limited time in ports, & do not attempt to assist in alternate arrangements. Having cruised on Princess and Royal Caribbean, and paid half the price; this cruiseline does not compare. This will be my last viking cruise! Read Less

We traveled with our good friends from Wyoming and decided to try an ocean cruise following a great river cruise we had to France about 2 years prior to this trip. We were overall very happy with the entire cruise with very few exceptions. The ship was new so everything was wonderful from the cabins to the fitness area. We especially enjoyed the explorers lounge and the restaurants available each evening to enjoy wine and dinner with our friends. We were happy to dress up for the dinner each evening which added a special touch to the experience. In addition to the dining, we enjoyed the tours. We were especially happy that Viking provided plenty of education and information prior to touring each city on the cruise. We left feeling we knew so much more about the country and people. Our friends were a little disappointed with the reservation system for purchasing tours due to the fact there was limitation on numbers which did not allow us to choose the same tours for all of us on certain stops. They also were frustrated that exceptions were not made to accommodate adjustment to our tour schedules in order to allow us to be together even though we tried to call ahead of time within the guide lines and timelines. The consumer service department did help us at the last minute to grab a couple of spots on one of our tours and that was very helpful. We understand the priorities based on type of cabin, but the most popular options might be better to add additional seats rather than limit them based on a fixed number. Despite this issue we felt all the tour guides were very good and well prepared to deliver a quality tour experience. The buses and destinations for the most part were great and gave us a nice picture of the culture and people living in Italy. The entertainment was very good, however might have been geared more for an older group as we are all in our late 50s and early 60s and would like to see a bit more variety. Overall, however, we enjoyed most of the shows especially the opera night. We were very impressed with the detail to service throughout the entire boat. We had no bad service during the cruise and enjoyed being pampered during our stay. We plan use Viking every other year to allow us to tour more parts of the world. We feel that the cost is the only thing keeping us from traveling with you every year. We would have probably booked another trip, but we did not understand the savings of booking while on the boat until late in the process. We did not have time to get with your people and discuss due to the busy schedule at the end of the trip. Hats off to all the hard working people on the Viking ship!! we had a great time. Read Less

We began our trip with the extension in Tuscany, which was well worth both the time and money. Our Viking guide made it a very interesting and seamless time. The ship was very new, and the only problem was that the coffeemaker in our cabin was not working. No problem, as we loved having an American in the Living Room! The main dining room was excellent both for breakfast and for dinner. There is plenty of room in the public areas, so you never felt crowded. It is a very serene environment, just what we like after sightseeing. All of the staff was most eager to please, and provided service without intruding. We particularly enjoyed our excursions to Taormina, Bari and Venice. It was very hot, but they always had cold washcloths for us when we returned to the ship. This was our first Viking Ocean cruise after having taken two Viking River cruises. We enjoyed both experiences. Read Less

Viking knows it’s business and excels at it. The new ships are elegant and (as usual) meals, service and entertainment were all excellent. Our embarkation in Rome was noteworthy as we were greeted at the airport and driven to the ship in a singular car (not a bus). The restaurants were very nice, the food quality excellent and the staff friendly and respectful. We particularly liked Manfredi’s, but we’re also impressed with the selection and quality in the World Cafe and noted the kitchen staff’s hard work and obvious pride in presentation and service. The entertainment was “Near-Broadway”; the performers were very good and the staging and theatrics impressive. The ships public areas were beautiful; signage and directions done well (it’s a big vessel, getting disoriented was not uncommon); and elevators and stairwells adequate for the number of users. The rooms were large and well appointed; with a large bathroom, ample closet and drawer space and a very helpful and attentive “Butler.” Lastly, the payment methods for beverages and tips was a welcome improvement. The excursions were well executed, but we had mixed feelings about them in part due to one guests walking limitations. The excursion guides should be more explicit in describing the amount and difficulty levels of the excursion. Naples was ok, but the amount of walking was problematic. Sicily was great. Crotone was unimpressive. Bari was gorgeous and the walking tour well executed. Crotia was perhaps the most beautiful harbor, but the walking tour was too hilly and difficult. Venice was, unsurprisingly, mobbed. Read Less

Although we had been to the start and stop sites before several times, the intermediate stops in the Adriatic were new to us and quite interesting. The Orion is a lovely ship...just a few weeks old at our sailing so everything was impeccable. The service was probably the best ever experienced on a cruise, which was surprising given the newness of the vessel and crew. We found the casual dining to be more appealing than the main dining room, given the breadth of choices and the ability to sample many different tastes. Also, we made friends with servers there and made sure to it in their areas whenever possible. The entertainment was generally middling, typical cruise ship fare...although the professor who provided lectures on various topics was quite interesting and the planetarium was very novel and entertaining. Our younger son and his wife joined us for the second week from Venice to Athens and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. The gym/spa area was the best we'd ever seen...loved the ice room and the steam rooms being so adjacent. And the common areas/lounges were quite comfortable, especially the Explorers' Lounge that was just a few steps from our cabin. The best indicator of our pleasure with the Orion is that we are booked for another sailing on it in the Orient in September of 2019...and are planning as well for a 2020 Viking combination river and ocean cruise in Scandinavia. Viking is, in our opinion, simply the best cruise line afloat. Read Less

On the ship, the staff always remembered us and greeted us with smiles, jokes, and friendly conversation. Our cabin was always impeccably clean with specific soda and snacks tweaked to our specifications. Our room service order was magnificent and delicious. The spa was amazing from the plunge pool to the jacuzzi pool to the Nordic steam and snow room. We spent most late afternoons at one of the outdoor pools with cocktails after lunch at the pool bar. Orion was immaculate, a new ship and the crew was together just two months prior to our sailing; so in essence, everyone was "new" onboard. In true Viking fashion, everything went very smoothly (for us). We essentially sailed what's now called Mediterranean Odyssey (Barcelona to Venice). Our cruise was somehow overbooked, so the ship seemed more crowded than usual, full capacity I'm sure. (We've cruised with Viking several times, both River and Ocean.) Nonetheless, they asked for daily real-time feedbacks and seemed to make adjustments along the way. Overall, the trip was very enjoyable. Unfortunately, just about every port we went to was extremely hot. The walking tours would have been wonderful strolls otherwise. Nevertheless, we saw and learned so much. The trip gave us what we wanted: an overview of the land for future visits. Things that were unexpectedly outstanding: the cruise director and the entertainment. The cruise director was very personable and talented. He also mixed with the crowd. We found the singing/dancing by the four young people at the theater totally amazing. When not performing, they greeted us at the theater doors, and impressed us as ordinary people, all from the UK. When on stage, however, they transformed into professional performers who sang ABBA, Beatles, and Broadway songs. Their choreography was excellent. I was transported back to the 60s/70s. Parts of the Broadway songs even brought tears to my eyes--just wonderful performance. Read Less

Viking was our first and only choice for an ocean cruise. The Viking Orion is a smaller ship with only 930 passengers (a huge selling point for us). We did a 15 Day Grand European river cruise two years prior so we knew what level of service to expect. They did not disappoint! First class again in every way! We were welcomed at the Barcelona World Trade Centre by the Viking staff with smiles and cold bottled water. Viking is extremely organized and buttoned down. Check in was as smooth as silk. Our stateroom was not available until 2:00 p.m. so we were told to make our way to The World Cafe and lunch would be available. We were onboard the ship within minutes and welcomed with cold clothes and champagne. Nice touch! As an aside, this cruise was in recognition of our wedding anniversary. Viking delivered a bottle of chilled champagne and beautiful cake after we arrived in our stateroom. Both were very tasty! The ship overall is very beautiful and modern. You really feel like you are on a luxury cruise ship. Our stateroom was perfect for the two of us. It was extremely clean. The bathroom was a good size, lots of room in the shower. Plenty of storage space, heated floors, quality toiletries/towels, etc. all replenished daily. They provide luxury robes and slippers. The bed was super comfortable. I'm still trying to figure out how there wasn't one hint of a wrinkle in a pillow case or the duvet cover after they made up our room! There is plenty of closet and drawer space. We asked for extra hangers which were delivered within minutes. An added touch was having daily information about the cruise and ports of call on the stateroom television. Restaurant menus were updated daily so we could decide beforehand where we wanted to go for dinner. If we missed the evening talk about our next port of call, we could watch it later that evening or the following morning. You could also view the status of your account on board. There were several dining options available. Food selections at the specialty restaurants were plentiful. The Chef's Table was gourmet delicious! There were many choices offered from the buffet restaurant food stations and the Aquavit Terrace daily. Room service was always available. We had no complaints about any of the food offerings. Quantity, quality and presentation were outstanding! Especially the non-stop stop king crab legs offered nightly. They were a hit! Bar service was excellent. The bar tenders/servers were all very friendly and interesting to talk to. We purchased the Silver Spirits beverage package and enjoyed top shelf liquors and a great selection of wines. We did not use the swimming pools, spa or fitness centre however we did tour the spa. It's equipped with a snow room! The sports deck had mini-golf. A good selection of excursions were offered at each port of call; some included in the cruise and some not included. We did daily excursions at each port and stayed on land as long as we could exploring. All our tour guides were friendly, knowledgeable and some with a good sense of humor. The only excursion we were disappointed in was the visit to the village of Grimaud, France. With the time we had available, we saw mostly big yachts and villas. Time could have been better spent in St. Tropez. Viking is extremely organized in everything they do. Especially getting guests efficiently off (and back on) the ship and loaded on to awaiting buses. We were provided bottled water and wished a good day by senior Viking staff when disembarking at each port. When returning to the ship after each excursion we had to go through a security check (which is done efficiently). Cold clothes were handed out arriving back on board the ship. On our final day in Livorno port before heading to our final disembarkation destination, Civitavecchia (Rome), we were greeted back at the ship after touring all day with a red carpet, cold champagne and all the ship staff welcoming us back. They were all lined up dancing to the music was playing outside. Another nice touch! Entertainment on the ship was fine for us. After full days of touring in the heat, night life wasn't that important to us. If you're expecting to party at the all-night disco, or play the slots, this is likely not the cruise for you. No disco or casino. Entertainment was offered most nights by the Viking Singers in the Star Theatre as well as guest entertainers. The Viking Band played in the Torshavn Lounge for those that wanted to dance. There were movie nights and dancing under the stars pool side on select nights. The resident pianist, guitarist and classical duo performed nightly in the Atrium. We watched one 3D movie in the Explorers' Dome. It was visually amazing! There are only 26 seats available and you need to reserve at guest services. It does not cost anything. An added perk on the ship was the self-serve laundry/ironing facilities on each level. Viking may seem a bit on the pricey side but they are definitely worth the money. We would recommend Viking to anyone and will be looking at future travels with Viking again. Staff, service, dining, excursions, and overall experience on this cruise ... all first class! Read Less

This was an excellent cruise line. One of the outstanding features is that it is really an adults only cruise. I have nothing against children but it's not relaxing when you have to listen to whiny children on a cruise you've worked so hard to be able to pay for. Time and place, etc. It was educational as well. Shore excursions offerings were spectacular and educational. The guides provided were excellent and knew their stuff. Another plus with Viking is that they don't try to sell you things while you are on your vacation. Have cruised Royal Caribbean's Alaska Cruise. While that cruise was enjoyable, they were always trying to sell us things like liquor packages, pictures, etc. They did not do this on Viking. Also big plus was the size of the ship. It was smaller and more intimate yet inclusive. Staff was excellent. Meals were very good. So nice to have a veranda in every stateroom. Would highly recommend Viking and will go again in two years on another cruise. Read Less

We fell in love with this itinerary, with the boat and with this crew. My husband and I are in our mid 40s, and have started to enjoy more luxurious cruise lines. We compare this experience to a Crystal cruise we took approximately 1 1/2 years ago. What we liked about our Viking experience is that there definitely seemed to be a wider mix of ages on the ship. We enjoyed visiting and meeting with peers closer to our own age as well as older couples travelling. Now onto the Viking Orion itself - by far the nicest cruise ship we have been on. It certainly helps that the ship is new - everything is modern and clean. Embarkation and debarkation were a synch - no waiting and no lines. CABIN: We stayed on the 5th floor - situated perfectly in the middle of the ship so you can easily reach 7th and 2nd floors for dining. We had a penthouse veranda room - PLENTY of storage, shower pressure was impressive. My only gripe is that the mattress was a tad hard for my taste. Use of self-service laundry was easy and convenient - located on every floor. DINING: Specialty restaurants on board are a MUST. Food in the world cafe was mostly great, similar experience in the main dining room. One tip we were glad once we figured out is that you can actually view the menus for each restaurant (which change daily) on your stateroom TV or on the Viking app. This can help you decide which restaurant you want to go to for a given meal! We did not do the silver spirits package and believe that it was better to mostly drink wines that came with dinner but occasionally purchased a bottle of wine and found prices to be extremely reasonable. FITNESS CENTER/SPA: Please do NOT miss the spa! It is simply outstanding. I was also impressed that you can use the facilities (hydrapool, steam room, jacuzzi) without a spa appointment. These facilities are open to you anytime. ENTERTAINMENT AND ACTIVITIES: This is one area where we think Viking can improve. They had minimal entertainment in the evening, although sometimes they brought in local cultural talent which was wonderful to see. We wishes for the shows to be longer and for there to be more on board entertainment in general. They do have interactive game tables (computerized game board) you can play a variety of games on which was unique and cool. SERVICE: Outstanding and impeccable PORTS and EXCURSIONS: We enjoyed included tours included for Pisa, St Tropez, and Barcelona. We did mostly half day tours through Viking which allowed us time to explore the city on our own for the second half of the day since there was ample time at each port. We will be signing up for another Viking cruise. Despite the few negatives I noted, we would still rate this cruise as excellent. Read Less

My husband and I were interested in seeing the French Riviera, Spain, and Italy. We signed up for pre-cruise and post-cruise extensions and the whole experience was absolutely lovely. The pre-cruise hotel in Madrid, The Intercontinental Hotel Madrid, was absolutely beautiful. Viking had excursions planned and you also had time to do your own thing. When it was time to get to the ship, Viking had a representative help all the travelers get on the train from Madrid to Barcelona which was most helpful because with the Viking rep, Charles, there was never any confusion about where we were supposed to be at any time. The young man had it under control at all times. The actual cruise ship was beautiful, clean, fun, delicious, entertaining, and comfortable. The people that work for Viking are all English speaking and really good at what they do. Our cabin attendant, Delia, was absolutely the most efficent helpful young lady I have ever seen. She had a young man that worked with her that was as equally excellent. I think his name was Bom-Bom or something like that -- excuse my ignorance. The restaurants were really good in that you could make healthy choices and also have not so healthy choices for food if that's what you want. I was really glad that Viking didn't run their cruise like a food fest. The last cruise I took 30 years ago had a midnight buffet and really heavy meals. I felt bloated when I got home. Not with Viking. They have really healthy food and a gym as well. The shore excursions were all very fun and interesting. It was very warm during the time we were there, but I would not change a thing. The post-cruise extension in Rome was also done very well. Our hotel was lovely and Viking had a representative at the hotel 12 hours a day while we were there. When it was time to get to the airport, Viking had a transport van ready for us, took us to the airport, and when we got to the airport Viking representatives were there to help us get our luggage to the checkin counter for our airline. Viking really takes care of their passengers and I will never take any other cruise line for sure. We also left some of our things we purchased in the room and Viking sent them to us in the mail. Wow. I tell everyone about my experiences on Viking because they need to know how comprehensive their service is. Viking cruises make for a true vacation. Read Less

Just returned from the Viking Orion in the Mediterranean in July. Great ship, great service. A few minor issues. But here is the rundown.... 1, No coffee in the room because of a power issue. 2. Rooms were spacious and great storage,. 3. Ask for additional hangers. 4. Food was good overall, but the specialty dining was disappointing, I would not be concerned if you cannot get in. However, every night there were empty tables. 5. Not much to do at night, a little stuffy. One night was dancing under the stars which was a big hit ( more of those needed) 6. Drink package was worth is, however free wine was decent. 7. Outside eating was our fav place! Excursions 1. Our first port Sete was just terrible...we went to the spa in the afternoon, however my husband went to the 8 hour medeival town and just loved it!! 2. Marselle was good..just walking mostly 3. Monaco we had signed up for a walking tour and when the guide starting talking about the parking garage we left here and took the hop on bus around Monte Carlo which was great! The walking tour is boring! 4. St. Tropez was our favorite...just walked shop and ate. 5. Florence we hired a private driver and went on a pasta cooking class and wine tasting set up by my travel agent. The best day of the trip. 6, Florence the next day was very crowded, but fun. All in all a great ship and great crew. A little sleepy for my 25 and 26 year olds. Sometimes the mature crowd was a bit crabby for us...but we knew that going in. If you are looking for night life and gambling this is not for you! I love kids, but not having them on the ship was nice. Also, not many smokers on board which was also a treat. Read Less

First time sailing with Viking and we were not disappointed. The ship was brand new and luxurious. The food at all restaurants was top notch. Manafred’s was our favorite and we dined there twice. Service was over the top. Most tours were very good but some (Canne) included a very long bus ride - at least 2-1/2 hours each way - which was too much time on a bus for us. Room was spacious, well appointed and very clean. Therapy pool and snow room were fun and unique experience. Gym was clean and spacious and and had plenty of equipment. We traveled with a group so we did not have much time to check out their evening entertainment. Embarkation process went very smoothly and we were on ship within minutes of arriving at dock. I would not hesitate recommending Viking! You will not be disappointed. Was a trip of a lifetime. Read Less

Sailed for our 32nd Cruise , first with Viking Ocean having sailed on their Danube river cruise on their Longboats. Consistent non overbearing service...very different than other cruise lines. No children was a big plus. Beautiful furnishings and fittings. Outstanding open seating dinners in all restaurants. Veranda cabin was excellent: bed was firm, shower and toiletries were above average. Low key evening shows were great. Planetarium was a nice addition along with the on board astronomer who had a powerful telescope on the top deck for planet viewings. Embarking and disembarking was Very easy. Included tours were good. We went on 5 optional tours which were uncrowded and well done. Free spa pool was outstanding along with sauna and snow room...unique, not crowded and high end experience...used 2x. We traveled with 3 other couples we are in our mid 60s. Mostly over 40.. One fellow passenger told us he was 93 and was on a moderately active tour..did great. Cruise was in mid July 2018, 7 day Barcelona to Rome with a 2 day pre cruise in Madrid. Best summary: will are planning another cruise with Viking... Read Less

We chose this cruise for our honeymoon and could not be happier with our choice!!! The ship was absolutely breathtaking, everything we could imagine was available and then some (ex. The bathrooms in the staterooms have heated floors and mirrors...). The amenities on board kept us entertained an interested, and we didn't even get to try everything. The dining was fantastic, specially restaurants were amazing and even the casual buffet style dining was better than we've ever experienced anywhere. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful at all times, they always had a smile and were more than happy to help with anything we could ever want. The shore excursions were absolutely delightful and so very interesting!! Every one of them was inspiring and exciting. The tour guide companies Viking contracted with were wonderful, they were not difficult to understand, the headsets made it so nobody had to yell or strain to hear, and the guides always had more information than you could imagine. We haven't stopped talking about our cruise since we returned home and have even made purchases of household items that are similar to on the ship so we can pretend we're still there. Read Less

My sister and I have always wanted to cruise on a smaller ship and see the Mediterranean. We had been on a Viking River Cruise and discovered they had a new fleet of Ocean ships. The Viking Orion ship is beautiful with all of the elegant touched of Nordic style, art, and the space explorer theme was especially wonderful. Our local guides and thoughtful and friendly crew made us feel at home and provided enriching excursions at every port. Food choices were awesome, and the spa exceptional. I loved listening to piano and guitar music in the atrium and viewing art in the changing 3 story display. There were plenty of quiet places to relax and enjoy watching the scenery. We never felt crowded. The resident astronomer set up a powerful telescope on deck for us to view the rings of Saturn and moons of Jupiter, and we also spotted the international space station making its way across the sky. We also enjoyed two 3-d shows in the ship’s planetarium. A special highlight was watching the movie under the stars on the top deck that featured Florence the day before we set off for our post cruise Tuscany adventure. This was truly an adventure of a lifetime and worth every penny. We had to depart the day we arrived in Barcelona, but were able to arrange tickets to tour the Cathedral de Familia on our own, that had to be purchased months ahead of time. It was so beautiful and inspiring, and the first of many beautiful and amazing churches we would see at every port. Read Less
