I love Viking Ocean. Well worth the money. We usually eat dinner in World Cafe since it has same menu Plus I like the seafood it offers. Sushi bar every night is good. Ten flavors of ice cream made on ship. I like you can order a steak at grill. I enjoy spending 3 hours for dinner in cafe eating and drinking wine. Great place to meet people. We will be on same ship in May for 21 day cruise. Have 40 day cruise in Dec. No longer do Celebrity. My only wish is that they do more games on sea days. They only throw the bean bag. I would like to see them do more minutes to win it games. Staff is very friendly. They all appear very happy. May be the free internet everyone has. I enjoy the shows each night. The local talent is also good.looking forward to next cruise. Read Less

After five wonderful Viking River cruises we decided to try Viking Ocean Cruises on their newest ship, The Orion and were were so glad that we did. The Orion is a state of the art mid-sized ship that can comfortably accommodate 930 passengers without feeling the least bit crowded . I had no problem getting a lounge at the pool or a seat at the bar. The SPA was amazing with experienced staff and modern and unique facilities. The dining experience was wonderful with four restaurants to choose from. The world cafe was our favorite because of the incredibly diverse menu and the kitchen would also prepare just about anything that we asked for on a moments notice. The two fine dining restaurants were both spectacular and the service was outstanding. The Viking Included Tours were good but we opted for many of the more extensive paid tours to visit special sites that were high on our wish list. The most outstanding thing about Viking is the crew and the service. They went above and beyond to make sure that our every needed was fulfilled. They were very approachable and easy to talk to and always followed up to keep us informed when we needed to make itinerary changes etc, This experience was so wonderful that we have booked another cruise on the Orion this year that starts on November 30th in Bali and cruises to Lombock, Komodo and the the entire Australian coast from Darwin to Sydney. We can hardly wait to get back on the Orion for another three weeks of pure Bliss! Read Less

We were looking for a cruise to the Middle East and had traveled with Viking on a river cruise. Their itinerary most closely matched our plans. The ship, its amenities, the crew were all outstanding. The excursions had a few bumps — it’s a difficult region for problem free visits, and the August weather temperatures were very challenging. The guides were well prepared and knowledgeable; there was a good selection of both included and optional tours, but logistics were complicated. I would have enjoyed more evening entertainment on the ship. The food and restaurants on board were great. Our cabin was spacious and comfortable. The common areas were beautiful and luxurious. I have traveled with other cruise lines and I think Viking is absolutely the best in customer service; every member of the staff was friendly, competent, helpful, and cheerful — all of which contributed to a most memorable experience. When I was in high school, I read a lot geography around the suez canal, red sea, and indian ocean. It is very interesting and I am glad I get this one in my bucket list. The excursions is actually more than I expect traveling Egypt, Israel, Jorden, and Mumbai in one trip. Of course, the ship is the top of the class in service. This is better than other ships which I had travelled before. The quality of food is also above other ships except the Chef Table. I went three night in this dinner and I just like the french food only. The equipment in the exercise room are in good condition and also because it is max. 930 persons in the ship, therefore, it is not crowded in the exercise room and spa area. I used the spa every day at sea. the Scandinavian Bathing is highly recommended to utilize in the trip. I also love so many sea food in the menu in this ship. Read Less

It was our 25th Anniversary and we wanted something special. We had heard great reviews about Viking Cruises and they lived up to all of it. We stayed 4 days in Venice to visit relatives prior to the cruise. Embarkation and Disembarkation were VERY smooth. We did not wait like we have in the past on other cruise lines. Ports and shore excursions were very good! We really enjoyed the fact we had extra time to do shopping or sightseeing on our own in most of the ports. Our cabin was perfect! We loved the space and king size bed! The Orion was new in 2018 and you could tell! Clean and comfortable! It was very cozy to lie on the deck or in the Explorer's Lounges with cozy blankets and amazing views. The staff really paid personal attention to us! Entertainment was good- band and Pablo but ended early. The Viking Spa and Bathing experience was also amazing! However we really did not discover it until last couple days. The welcome aboard with champagne and cool cloths was very refreshing especially since the temperatures were in the 90's! Read Less

My wife and I were eager to try Viking as we've heard multiple stellar reviews (from friends and family both). As someone who has in the past been on a lot of cruises with multiple different cruise lines I can sum up our experience on this cruise by simply stating it exceeded our wildest expectations in every category and has ensured two new Viking customers for life. The ship itself is stunning, beautiful and spotless with hidden treats throughout (the planetarium and the snow grotto were two of my favorites). The food was consistently excellent and to my surprise we found ourselves frequently eating at the World Cafe simply to allow us to sample more choices (and as the location was so comfortable)! The lack of crowds anywhere on board was a special delight (especially compared to prior cruises), and on multiple occasions we felt as if we had private reservations to wherever/whatever we were doing at the time. I cannot praise the crew/staff highly enough! There was such authentic friendliness and attention to detail from everyone we interacted with. We were able to talk with the cruise director 1 on 1 multiple times and were never made to feel like anything we asked for or needed was an imposition (even if we just stopped them to chat we were never made to feel as if they had somewhere else to be). The head chef came out to check our happiness with the food (spoiler alert: we were!) multiple times as well, even stopping to chat with us at the tea service in the Wintergarden (which we went to every day!). The caliber of service so thoroughly exceeded anything we expected that again I cannot stress enough how impressed I was. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the entertainment. I've experienced cruise entertainment a lot in the past and pretty consistently find it to be sub-par. Based off the smaller passenger size of the ship I was expecting more of the same here and was yet again pleasantly surprised to discover otherwise! The shows were quite entertaining with some impressively talented singers and a special mention to the musicians as well (the classical duet was especially delightful!). The number of included services (free wi-fi, shore excursions, alcohol with meals, etc.) was also appreciated (nice not to feel nicked and dimed) and worth a mention. The Spa was a treat after a long (and hot!) Shore Excursion and here especially the lack of crowds really showed! Overall, we enjoyed every moment of our (all too short) experience on board the Orion and are counting the days to our next cruise with Viking! Cannot recommend Viking enough! Read Less

This was our second Viking cruise. Our first was a river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel. We had such an amazing time we decided to try an ocean cruise on Viking. The ship was beautiful and had everything we wanted. Excellent foods, great staff, great shore excursions. Our room was clean and comfortable. Enjoyed the pools, entertainment, spa. The countries we visited were amazing. Scenery was breathtaking!!! Visiting Venice, Croatia, Montenegro and Greece was wonderful. Seeing where the very first Olympics were held, climbing up to the Acropolis and visiting the museum there was so enjoyable. It was very hot and humid though!! I would recommend going when it’s cooler. And be sure to read about the shore excursions, Viking explains the degree of difficulty, because some people had a hard time with some that we were on.Viking makes you enjoy and relax with everything they do!!! Thanks to all the great staff on board!! You’re the best!!!! We will definitely plan another cruise in the future with Viking. Read Less

We heard Viking’s Ocean Cruises were No. 1 so we decided t go with it. Great decision!!! People were so nice, food was delicious, tours beautiful and the whole trip a wonderful experience. We highly recommend it to everyone we talk to. Breakfast was always very tasty and friendly service everywhere. When we had lunch onboard we always had choices around the ship. Dinners were the best! Special restaurants were available with gourmet meals and wines! Entertainment was always available with so much talent. Special bars were located all over the ship with very friendly and helpful bartenders. The pools were fun to jump into at the end of very hot days. Overall I just have to say that it was the best trip we have ever been on. Thank you for a trip of a lifetime! Read Less

Orion was immaculate, a new ship and the crew was together just two months prior to our sailing; so in essence, everyone was "new" onboard. In true Viking fashion, everything went very smoothly (for us). We essentially sailed what's now called Mediterranean Odyssey (Barcelona to Venice). Our cruise was somehow overbooked, so the ship seemed more crowded than usual, full capacity I'm sure. (We've cruised with Viking several times, both River and Ocean.) Nonetheless, they asked for daily real-time feedbacks and seemed to make adjustments along the way. Overall, the trip was very enjoyable. Unfortunately, just about every port we went to was extremely hot. The walking tours would have been wonderful strolls otherwise. Nevertheless, we saw and learned so much. The trip gave us what we wanted: an overview of the land for future visits. Things that were unexpectedly outstanding: the cruise director and the entertainment. The cruise director was very personable and talented. He also mixed with the crowd. We found the singing/dancing by the four young people at the theater totally amazing. When not performing, they greeted us at the theater doors, and impressed us as ordinary people, all from the UK. When on stage, however, they transformed into professional performers who sang ABBA, Beatles, and Broadway songs. Their choreography was excellent. I was transported back to the 60s/70s. Parts of the Broadway songs even brought tears to my eyes--just wonderful performance. Read Less

While many in our group had visited most of the ports previously, we all wanted to visit the scheduled ports. We greatly enjoyed out pre-cruise in Madrid. The change of itinerary, costing us a night in Barcelona, was disappointing, though Sète was lovely. The other ports were fantastic and the excursions, both included and optional, were well run and educational. We were a bit disappointed in the wine tasting at Valmagne Abbey (extremely limited amounts of wine to taste and quite discourteous servers), but the tour guides were all excellent and the locations provided great adventures and experiences for all of us. Toilets on all tour buses, regardless of length of tour, would be an improvement. One of the best things about the cruise was having an astronomer in residence; his expertise during star and planet gazing and when the international Space Station passed over the Orion was an amazing experience! We utilized and loved the included areas of the spa, including the cold room. The food and included wine was great and meals were leisurely, well served affairs. Both the spa and meal service are areas where Viking's luxury treatment of guests shines. The on board entertainment was good to adequate and provides Viking with an area in which to improve. We are looking forward to our next cruise with Viking. Our only real complaint stemmed from the flight arrangements going home. Viking needs to find a much better way to do flight arrangements, one that gives Viking far more control and the ability to provide much better customer service for dealing with problems and issues. We chose the cruise because we enjoyed the river cruise we took in May of 2017. We also wanted to compare the ocean cruise to Princess ocean cruises. We liked the smaller ship, loved the free laundry. The entertainment was good for a smaller ship. Princess entertainment is extravagant in comparison, due to the fact that they have been around longer and are experienced in it. Their sets are well designed and we enjoyed meeting the actors, seeing their rooms and finding out about what it takes to be an entertainer on Princess. We loved eating at the Chef's Table, Asian Panorama. We enjoyed the Winter Garden, the spa with the Snow Gratto. We enjoyed dancing on the deck under the stars and at the night club, danced from 8:30 PM until it closed. It was such a wonderful experience that we booked another Viking Ocean cruise in May of 2019. Read Less

A quick intro. This was our first time on Viking Ocean, my previous cruise experience was western Med on Regent Mariner. Traveled with my mom, who has a lot of cruise experience on a variety of lines. Mom picked the cruise, I was the lucky travel companion. Cruise departed from Rome and traveled to Barcelona. This itinerary has the ship traveling in the evening/at night. We were lucky to be on the 2nd cruise on Orion, which is new and beautiful. Embarkation - we arrived the day before and stayed at the Hilton at the airport. Our TA arranged for us to meet the Viking transport at the airport for our transfer to the ship. We were a bit nervous about this, since most people were coming directly from a flight and we were afraid we might miss the group. Turned out we should not have worried, when we arrived at the airport we immediately found a crowd of travelers wearing the red Viking stickers and made our way to the buses. There was no crowd in the terminal, we were able to process within a few minutes after waiting in a very short line, and then quickly went aboard. The staff greats you with a glass of champagne as you board, with some staff wearing traditional nordic clothing. The customer service desk is open 24/7, and it is good idea to talk to them when you board, the lines get longer later in the day. With cabin access at 1pm, we had some time to explore the ship. Orion is a beautiful ship. The public spaces are wide open, she never feels crowded. We went directly to the spa to book some services. The spa is unique and the staff is quite helpful. Mom signed up for a facial and I signed up for a guided experience using the nordic spa. This is an event open to 10 people once per cruise (they did it twice this journey, lots of interest) for a low fee which includes a body brush and various creams and lotions. The gym is next door - clean and really well appointed. When I came down to exercise in the morning each piece of cardio equipment was preloaded with a fresh towel and bottle of water. There were plenty of sanitary wipes and a hand washing station, too. I had everything I needed for a great workout. After the spa we went upstairs to what I call the "food court". This area, with both indoor and outdoor seating, serves food from various stations. The fresh made gelato every day was a favorite. I love that Viking had no extra sugar added gelato every day (with a new flavor every day!) and no added sugar cookies too. Wine and beer are included with lunch and dinner, and so is soda. The wait staff was quick to bring water and wine, it took a while to get a soda sometimes, and I found it worked better to order two glasses each time. I often ran into other diners who were ordering two sodas at a time - the glass holds half a can. We had a penthouse veranda cabin. One thing we really liked - our stewed came in and introduced herself and then went over all of the features of the cabin with us. The min fridge was preloaded with an assortment of soda, beer, champagne, mini liquor bottles and 3 tiny toblerone candy bars. We knew what we wanted in the fridge - lots of Diet Coke and wine instead of champagne, so we left a note for the crew member who does the mini fridge refills. There is no place in the fridge for the ice bucket - you can ask for ice each day but half of it does melt while you are out and about. The room featured way more pillows than we knew what to do with, pillows on the beds, pillows on the couch, pillows on the chairs. We had the two bed configuration, the room included a couch and chair as well as two tables. The veranda had two chairs and a table as well. Loved that there was a big window and a regular door to the veranda rather than a slider! The TV is large, with several news channels to choose from as well as BBC documentaries and TED talks as well as some movies. There are two speciality restaurants on the ship as well as the main dining room and the food court. We tried Manfredis and it was OK. The menus at the Chefs Table were not for us. We found that the main dining room, which was never crowded, was our favorite. The service was excellent, and they can even bring you food from one of the other restaurants if you ask. Tea time is simple - the guitar player plays and sings, and everyone group receives a tray with some tiny sandwiches and 4 treats. The tea is simple. This is one area which was disappointing to me after the sumptuous tea's on Regent and the lively trivia games at tea time. One our ship the tea was never crowded, there was plenty of room for more people. The entertainment on the ship is very low key. No big broadway style nightly shows on this trip. There is a cast of 4 young singers who did two shows, the cruise director had one show where he sang with the band. They brought in some local entertainers - an opera group in Livorno which was very entertaining and included audience participation - a string group another night, and a wonderful local music group in Barcelona. You can find live music throughout the trip at tea, during the Munch Moments, in the public areas and in the night club. There was a live music dance night on the pool deck as well. Orion has a planetarium style show which was very interesting and there was a stargazing lecture one night with the resident astronomer. We did a combination of the included shore excursions and some which were for an additional fee. By far our favorite was a trip to Cassis when we were in Marseille. This little French town felt like it was Belle's hometown with it's perfect little store fronts and cafes. There was a beach and the excursion included a lovely boat ride on the crystal clear waters to see the various fjords (they called them something else, but they were fjords). It was market day and there were vendors with fresh fruit and veg, handmade soaps and other crafts and various merchandise. Our other paid shore excursion was Florence by Tuk Tuk. Since the drive from port is so long you don't get nearly enough time to fully explore Florence, but Tomas the Tuk Tuk driver made sure we saw all the main sights and took us to a church above the city with amazing views of Florence. The meet up point for the Florence excursions is a square with both an excellent leather store and jewelry store. The buses for all the trips had great air conditioning, which was cold to American expectations. Points to Viking for this! We visited Pisa on the included excursion, which included a lot of walking from the bus to the square. The tour included too much "time on our own" as there was only one restaurant there and no real shops - and a lot of very aggressive vendors. We took the included walking tour in Monaco, and since the ship was there all day and evening we were able to head back in town to visit the casino. In St Tropez the included tour takes you to a planned community with canals like Venice. The community was built in the 70s. Luckily it was market day there and we were able to shop at the local market for food and gifts. We could have used more time to shop at this local market. Then the tour bus took us to St Tropez for a walking tour of the town. The best part of this port day was sitting in the infinity pool or on deck watching the amazing yachts go by - you can google them by name to see who they belong to. The included tour of Barcelona takes you around the city in the bus - you can see some of the Gaudi buildings from the bus. You tour the cathedral, and then many people departed from the group to spend their day in the city. There is a bus from the city to the port, so you can enjoy your day in town. That spa is an amazing place. Access to the spa is included in your cruise fare. During my spa experience, the staff lead us through the nordic experience - we started with dry brushing our skin, then into the sauna, then into the snow room - we did that a few times - rubbing snow balls on our skin. When you are done with that there is an ice bucket dumpshower, and also a fabulous shower with many different sprays. The pool in the spa is a hydrotherapy pool, and there is a hot tub as well. There are also heated loungers. If you travel viking ocean do not miss the spa! The pool has two pools on deck - there is an infinity pool and a regular pool. The infinity pool is deeper and colder. It is amazing to sit in the infinity pool and watch the yachts go past. The crew on this ship is very eager to please, and we received several surveys during the cruise - and the staff actually followed up on them, calling me to ask questions about my responses. After his show the cruise director asked everyone to make sure they filled out the surveys, he stressed that they would be responsive, and you could see some things changed immediately in response - for example, the dining room switched from room temp water to ice water after the surveys. We were always greeted with a smile, and if it was within their power the staff granted your wish. The customer service desk is open 24/7 and they patiently answered all of our questions. You can find a map of each port in the book case in front of the customer service desks, and also on the dock in the area under the red canopy. The Viking passengers seemed to be a friendly crowd, and there was a wide age range of passengers, but not too many teen aged kids. Read Less

We thoroughly enjoyed being on a Viking riverboat and wanted to try a larger, ocean going Viking ship. It was amazing. Not only was it absolutely beautiful but it seemed music was everywhere. The central area seemed to have musicians playing whenever we passed by, but there were great musical shows in the theatre as well. On board was an intimate planetarium with two movies literally surrounding the guests. We enjoyed all three pools, the infinity, the large indoor and the quiet spa pool, and found swimming was a great way to counter the absolutely wonderful food on Board. Every single dish we selected was delicious. We tried the Italian restaurant twice, and next time I will reserve it for even more nights. However, the brightly decorated Norwegian restaurant was the most fun, with limitless lax and other great entrees and desserts. As with the river cruise, we could go on free tours at every stop. We found them well-organized with excellent guides. Even at those ports we had been to in the past, the tours were so educational. We never felt rushed or crowded and were taken to unusual spots, like the most elegant wine-tasting in a noble’s manse. Our room was the nicest one we have ever had on a ship. It was a balcony room with more drawers that we could possibly fill up. But that was good to know, as we can’t wait to go on a longer trip and have made plans to go on the Viking’s Buenos Aires to Santiago cruise in Feb. 2020. Read Less
