The good points: The ship was just as amazingly comfortable as I expect from Viking. An A+ there. The food was pretty good, exactly as always. (Which is getting a bit boring. I wish they followed Viking River and had more variety and more local dishes.) The one bright spot was a Chinese food station they added which was much appreciated. Finally, the scenery -- once we got there -- was ...
We are experienced cruisers in our early 70s yet on this cruise we felt positively young. Although we enjoyed the company of many passengers, the feeling we got was that we were sailing in a WASP old people’s home.
Embarkation with flights arranged by Viking has us arrive on the ship at 11 pm. We had to find our our way to our rooms, not shown any features of the room and felt very not ...
We chose this cruise to finally visit the African continent. When we booked, Casablanca and Dakar were scheduled ports. A couple of months before embarkation Dakar, Senegal was changed to Cape Verde. We were disappointed because Cape Verde is a very poor replacement port, but Casablanca was still on schedule. Viking booked us on Lufthansa from Chicago-Frankfurt-Barcelona. Warning-Lufthansa ...
Thank you, Jgardh96, for taking the time to share your experience with us, although it is regrettable to hear of your disappointment. While sometimes adjustments to the itinerary are...
This cruise was to replace a cruise last December when my friend got covid the 2nd day and we were put off the ship 2 days later in Chile for 7 days of quarantine in a seedy hotel and then flown home. No covid for us this time, but because some passengers tested positive we were not able to stop in Casablanca. Too many people did not wear masks in elevators and on busses. The food was a bit ...
This was our first Viking Ocean cruise. If it were not for the many wonderful Viking River cruises we've taken, it would likely be our last Viking Ocean cruise.
What we liked:
The ship is beautiful and very well maintained. The crew is outstanding and service could not be better. It probably helped that we sailed with approximately 50% capacity.
What was just OK:
The food. ...
Having travelled with Viking Ocean many times, they continue to be our preferred cruise line, having experienced good and bad elsewhere. This cruise was one where you just had to make the best of the situation. Viking were not in control of the ports that did not appear to want us, necessitating itinerary changes, nor totally in charge of the handling staff in port building, and definitely not in ...
Having been to Europe on Viking River & Ocean we thought we would try South America this time.
Disappointing as Argentina and Chile not very open to tourists. Getting off in Buenos Aires was a disaster-3 hours through customs and 6 hours to get luggage delivered to room.
The ship and crew as always were up to Viking standards! The excursions tried hard to show us items of interest but some ...
Chose this cruise as way to see South America as land tours involved a lot of flights. Silversea was my first choice but it was sold out. We have done the Hurtigruten Norway fijords but otherwise this was our first cruise.
The good stuff first: Viking Jupiter is beautiful ship--well-designed and top-notch finishes. Stateroom was spacious and comfortable. Staff were attentive and helpful and ...
AVOID THIS CRUISE UNLESS YOU WANT TO STAY ON BOARD THE ENTIRE TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great ship; good crew, with just a few exceptions. The problem is the excursions offered by Viking. Food is much better than Royal Caribbean and Carnival, but nowhere near the quality offered on Oceania.
I chose this trip based, in large part, on the Andes Mountains lake and mountain photograph on the Viking ...
We chose this cruise for the itinerary and time of year, being Christmas. We tossed up between it and Norwegian but thought a smaller ship would be better for being able to get in closer and see more.
Having done other ocean cruises with other lines we imagined how wonderful Christmas would be on a ship. Not to be! Apart from some evening carols 2 days before, nothing else! Just another day ...
