Puzzled by general positive reactions to Viking

Review for a Hawaii Cruise on Viking Star

Our cruise on Viking was so-so at best. I will be avoiding that cruise line in the future. LAX as a major departure/arrival airport and San Pedro as the cruise port are EXTREMELY unsuitable and inconvenient. I have no idea why Viking selected this terrible combination as one of their two basic ports (the other being New York -- can you believe it?). There was hardly anything for us in the ...

Review for a Canada & New England Cruise on Viking Star

It should be mentioned right away that Viking clearly caters to a very small demographic of elderly clientele. My wife and I and the other couple that we travel with are healthy, active 60 year-olds and we felt that at least 90 percent of the other passengers were much older than us. We've taken previous Viking River cruises and, overall, really enjoyed them. Unfortunately, the things that we did ...

Viking Overpriced and Not Premium

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Viking Star

My wife and I chose Viking because it runs smaller ships and after three years without cruising believed this to be a safer option following COVID. This was our first time on Viking after 30+ cruises with other cruise companies. It was probably the worst. We made the decision to sail from Bergen to Montreal and then a second cruise from Montreal to New York 26 days in all. We saw the best and ...

Not what we expected from Viking

Review for a Mediterranean Cruise on Viking Star

We went for our 50th wedding anniversary so we felt it was worth spending the extra monies. We expected to be impressed with the vacation, we expected too much. Viking advertises no surprises and excursion in every port. We had plenty of surprises and there is NOT an excursion in every port. We spent our anniversary on the plane for 10 hours then the worst bus you can imagine for 4.5 hours to ...

Review for a Mediterranean Cruise on Viking Star

I hate writing bad reviews but, with the money we spent well over $25,000. We choose this cruise line because we had heard so many wonderful things about Viking. We had been looking forward to this cruise for a year. This to us was not a Mid-Luxury Cruise. We have been on many cruise lines average, mid luxury and Luxury. We selected the Explorer suite aft #5109 for the size of cabin. There is ...

Review for a Cuba Cruise on Viking Star

We went on this cruise , after hearing how great viking was . Boy were we disappointed . First the good things, the boat was clean new and well decorated . The cabins were the same and they probably had the biggest bathroom that we have ever encountered. The Italian speciality restaurant had the best food on the boat. All the staff that we meet , from the bartenders to the room steward were ...

Waste of money

Review for a Cuba Cruise on Viking Star

Due to engine trouble on a Cuba cruise we missed the port of Santiago. Things happen OK. However, on a 7 day cruise that left us with 2 1/2 days in Cuba and the rest of the time on the ship. Viking has offered a 30% credit on a future cruise if you book within a year or $500.00 cash to sign a settlement agreement to keep your mouth shut. Considering that our cabins cost 10k for two people I think ...

Nice Ship - Awful Itinerary

Review for a Cuba Cruise on Viking Star

Ship is beautiful and staff is great but not stopping in Havana ruined the trip. Cost an extra $1600 to take a 4 hour bumpy bus ride each way for an overnight in Havana. The other excursions were also expensive for what they were. Crew recommended not taking the included excursions if you wanted to see anything. Entertainment was nice especially the local acts brought on board. I would not have ...

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Viking Star

The cruise itself was ok. The ship is beautiful inside with tasteful decorating and furniture. The weather was beautiful considering all the hurricanes the previous weeks. The food in the general dining area, called the ‘world cafe’ was very good for breakfast ,lunch and dinner. There were two specialty restaurants: the chefs table and the Italian restaurant. The chefs table I thought was decent, ...
