Went two days early so I could see Venice. Had to pay $100 deviation fee no pre excursion available no transportation to ship either( normally included). Viking screwed up had me flying into Paris but not Venice. I had to sort it out myself (Viking no help , but very nice) the day I flew not knowing if I’d get to Venice.
So Viking Flew into Venice but then no time allotted or transportation ...
Loved the itinerary. Nice ship. Decent food but not great and lacking variety. Two lobster nights was really nice.
Included Excursions were disappointing with average to below average guides. Paid excursions had better guides but really poor planning relative to time. Many excursions returned to the ship as buffet was closing. Others did not allow enough time for shopping and enjoying the ...
I travelled as a solo traveller on this cruise last year from Venice (Chiogga) to Athens. It was my first cruise on Viking. My only previous cruise experience had been with Hurtigruten doing the Norway Coastal cruise. I found the ship itself to be lovely and very user friendly. I was also very pleased with my standard verandah cabin. Unfortunately apart from the main pool the other pools and hot ...
We were "ship-wrecked" due to captain's error.
Viking reimbursed us fairly (and pretty quickly after a ridiculous low-ball offer) and we did enjoy the time on board.
But missing 4 ports of 9 and coming home with Covid made this long-awaited cruise Very Disappointing.
I don't know if I will ever get back to Italy and Kosovo and Greece.
The staff worked SO hard to keep the ...
We wanted to see southern Europe and thought it would be a better experience. The service was excellent, but the tours were only average. We had better tours and fun on our river cruises. Some of the ports were too far from the places we were to visit. This made the trip somewhat disappointing. The ship was not as modern as we expected. The tour guide in Rome was terrible. I don't think we even ...
I read the review of the same cruise that another person wrote and It is interesting the differences experienced by travelers on the same cruise.
I will say that this is one of the longest critiques I have ever written on a cruise.
We have cruised on four different cruise lines and have taken many cruises over the last few years. We are mainly destination cruisers and don't participate in ...
Dear kjones121,
Thank you for passing along your thorough review.
Happy to hear your voyage began with a pleasant pre-extension in Tuscany, and a smooth embarkation process in Venice....
We chose this cruise as it coincided with another vacation to Malta we had planned. Sadly the cruise itinerary was changed eliminating the Turkish destinations. The service always seemed to be behind, and even much cheaper cruise lines have better restaurant service. A couple of times I waited for over 20 minutes for a wine steward to come. The orange juice at breakfast was terrible, it was ...
We are avid users of Grand Circle for both river cruises and land tours. We just thought that A: it would be nice to see Venice, B. It was a Christmas trip. C. We wanted to try a different cruise company.
Everything about the ship is beautiful. The colors, the tons of areas for quiet seating, the heated bathroom floors, the free Scandanavian spa experience, the food was very good, the ...
Our 2nd two-week Viking Ocean Cruise and our 1st on Viking Sea. We did a Venice prestay for 3 days. The ship actually did not depart from Venice--it departed from Trieste because fog prevented it from docking in Venice. That was a very challenging start to the cruise part of the trip because Viking didn't have any on-the-ground people who knew what was happening and it wasted a day in Venice for ...
Cruise was booked whilst on the ship on another cruise in April. Original destination was Venice to Istanbul, changed to Venice to Athens (3 nights in Greece!). Not ideal as we had been to Athens & Greece before many times. Venice was embarkation port so no excursions, departed for Slovakia that night and then down the Croatia coast to Greece and Greek islands, ending up 2 days in Athens. Half the ...
