My wife and I wanted to see Italy and this cruise seemed like the perfect fit. It allowed my wife and I to travel from Venice to Rome with several stops in between. We purchased some optional excursions that were truly great, but most the the included excursions were a little unstructured for our liking. Previous experience from an excellent Viking River cruise left us with an expectation that was not met with the Ocean cruise experience. Overall still a great cruise. The food was great and we upgraded to a junior suite room on board which felt like a full size hotel room. A little odd that very few traditional Italian meals were prepared. Accommodations were excellent and viking staff was super attentive. We added a 3 day extension when we got to Rome and that was a true highlight. We did not add extension with Viking as only a 2 day was available and we wanted at least 3 days. Staying on our own was less than half the cost anyway. Not sure why Viking charged so much for an extension when it only included transportation from the boat and the room. Overall Viking is a high quality cruise with lots of attention paid to passengers. Ship had great entertainment and created a fun environment. Read Less

This was our first Viking cruise, and overall we were thrilled with our experience. Looking for a cruise with more stops, and no sea days in the mediterranean, this was a great option. Service was king, and clearly on the minds of every staff member we encountered. From checkin to waitstaff... we were treated very well. The only major complaint was not being able to wear shorts in the dining room. This was pretty ridiculous. The rules don't say explicitly that we couldn't wear shorts. I wear pressed shorts and most days had a nice linen button up shirt on, with either sneakers or birkenstocks. Given that it was HOT in most ports and we were tired at the end of the day... being met with resistance at our wardrobe was not welcome. I'm told that we could have insisted in the dining room... but I would rather it just be clear... shorts should be acceptable. I would call the way I dressed more "Resort Casual" or "Country Club Casual" yet was denied access to the main dining room. Thankfully the buffet was excellent. The staff was attentive, quickly coming to tables for drinks and to clear plates. The food selections were also very good, even having a few fun nights at the pool where they had fish and chips and surf and turf. The coffee bar in the main lobby area was also excellent. It was also nice to have basic drinks included. We're not drinkers, but not charging extra for specialty coffees was a huge plus. We also loved that there was plenty of spacious room in the common areas around the main staircase, with beautiful blankets. It was cozy and warm, and felt more like a really classy hotel... instead of the Vegas glitz that many cruise ships have adopted. Even with my complaint about shorts, and the fact that the TV in our stateroom didn't have a sleep timer and we could hear the neighboring stateroom tv though the wall... it was a wonderful experience. We wanted to try Viking ocean cruise ships since we have made several river cruises. It was a beautiful ship with the customary superb Viking care, service and food. And we were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary by visiting Italy for the first time, taking the Italian Sojourn, Venice to Rome cruise. We took the Tuscany extension which included staying in a 600 year old villa set in the beautiful Tuscany countryside. One of the highlights of that visit was an enchanting dinner at an even older villa and winery. Viking excels in remarkably designed cabins that maximize space and efficiency. We received the wonderful care by the crew on our deck as well as in the dining room as we have in the past river cruises we've taken. One of the bonuses of the ocean cruise was the remarkable lecturer who was uniquely qualified to communicate enriching information and insights into both Italy and Croatia as well each port of call. He was delightful and helpful in his presentations and happily answered questions one on one. Another bonus was the tremendous bargain we received by scheduling our next cruise while onboard during the cruise. We chose a river cruise from Lyon to Avignon in southern France and the saved a great deal by dong that. All in all, we encourage anyone to try Viking ocean cruises.. Read Less

We had gone on a Viking River Cruise, and were so impressed with the quality that we decided to try an Ocean Cruise. We added a 2 day stay in Barcelona before the cruise and a 3 day stay in Tuscany after the cruise. Everything was arranged by Viking for this. Upon arriving in Barcelona, we were greeted by Viking reps at the luggage pick up and they graciously guided us through customs and to our transportation to our hotel At the Hotel we were again greeted by a Viking representative to lead us to checking in to the hotel, and since we were early for our room, he led us to an area where other reps talked to us about possible excursions were could take while in Barcelona. Absolutely no pressure was put on us to take any excursions at all. The rep answered all of our questions and guided us to an excursion that would show us Gaudi sites in town. Our room was ready when we finished. The recommended tour was great, as was the night of flamenco dancing they recommended. We were given clear instructions about where to leave our luggage for the trip to the ship, and that all went seamlessly. At the ship we were again greeted graciously, and given champagne while we waited for our room where we found all our luggage already delivered. We were almost immediately greeted by our steward who answered all our questions and made sure we had everything we needed. The next 13 days were glorious. the excursions were well planned and left plenty of free time for us to explore on our own. back at the ship, the service was amazing. The staff could not do enough for you, and the food....I didn't miss a meal which was the only problem with the trip. Many of the staff knew us by name after seeing them only a few times and made us fee as if we were the only couple they needed to take care of. We visited 4 of the restaurants on board and the food was excellent in each. The 3 days in Tuscany afterward I would recommend to everyone. Bothe the hotel and oyr guide were amazing. Read Less

We chose the Viking Cruise because of all the fabulous countries that it offers to take people. We have seen many commercials about Viking and we loved that everyone has a balcony to sit out and relax. With other cruise lines, this is given to passengers that pay more. Viking is also very different in a great way. We were given wine, beer and soft drinks with our meals, sit down dinner restaurants are also included versus other cruise lines where you have to pay for your meals in these restaurants. Food was outstanding with Gelato every day! You can have a steak cooked to your preference. Viking offers complimentary excursions in every port or you can opt out and choose one that you want to pay. With other cruise lines, all excursions are paid by passengers. The entertainment was the best. We had dancing in the lobby with the Cruise Director and entertainers participating. Washers and dryers with detergent and fabric softeners are there free for passengers. Outstanding staff that go out of their way to make the impossible possible for passengers. I have heard many former Viking cruisers that they will not use any others but Viking. We had a blast and will continue to return to Viking for our vacations! Read Less

Definitely all inclusive: From direct airport assistance for Viking passengers to expedit lost luggage, to Viking reps at/to/from airport with curbside service and luggage handling, to free shuttle bus and water taxi service to and from ship on a regular basis throughout the stay in port(s), to free alternative dining, to free excursions lasting 3 to 8 hours, to free beer and wine, to free laundermat. Also provided garlic free dinners for special dietary needs. 50th Wedding Anniversary cake was fantastic and one of the best cakes we've ever had! Swimming pools were however too deep for elderly passengers to enjoys 5' 10" uniform depth. over 95% of passengers heads and had to tread water. Too discomforting! Also thermal suite was not monitored by a Viking attendant. Too much risk for the elderly: thermal shock, pool current very strong, slippery floors, lighting..... Would like at least one other entree choice at the Chef's Table menu. Say one meat entree and one seafood entree, Also not enough wine portions served with each course. Everything else at the alternative dining venues was excellent. Read Less

We chose Viking because of the small ship. All of our other cruises have been on large cruise ships and we are tired of those. We lived in Europe for two years so we weren’t interested in any of the River Cruises you offered as we have already toured those areas. We had not been to Italy so that was why we chose this cruise. We were so pleased with all of the staff on this cruise. From the cabin staff to the bar staff, they were all wonderful. We ate most meals at the World Cafe because we did not realize you had to make reservations so far in advance for the speciality restaurants. I would have liked to have had a more varied restaurant choice. The World Cafe was good but I do not liking eating at buffets, so it was not a good dining experience for me. I am also a vegetarian and there were not a lot of vegetarian dishes at the buffet. We would love to do a Viking Cruise to Scotland. Do you have any of those planned in the future? Read Less

Have traveled with Viking on a River Cruise in 2015. Best ever- and this Ocean Cruise was fantastic as well. We extended our trip by two days before embarking and two days after the cruise ended. Everything went smoothly. Having the Viking personnel arrange our air flights, connections, and stays before and after the cruise made the experience all the better. The crew, stateroom, food and entertainment were all excellent. All of the excursions were well planned and enriching. We had the best possible tour guides and the process and organization of the excursions was terrific. The food at each of the restaurants was excellent and the staff made us feel welcomed no matter where we went to eat. The cabin staff were friendly and made our stay almost like being at home. The best review is....WE BOOKED ANOTHER CRUISE while onboard! Our positives are too many to mention here...glorious sunrises with breakfast on our private veranda are at the top of that long list! Viking is a well-oiled machine...from coordination of airport transportation, embarkation, the fabulous excursion options, how we were organized to exit the ship for excursions, dining options, OMG! We felt spoiled, spoiled, spoiled. Our only negative was the post-extension in Rome. Going forward, we will consider a pre-extension....the post-extension affected our relaxed mood following the cruise where we were spoiled, but I’m sure that was the hustle and bustle of Rome. Wish Viking had offered us excursions in advance in Rome during the post-extension trip just as they did during the cruise as all cruise excursions were excellent. Of the two Viator tours that we booked on our own in Rome, one was phenomenal and one was a disappointment (the most expensive one!). The group dinner on our last night in Rome, that our Viking rep at the hotel coordinated after our arrival in Rome, was a night to remember, so.... more of that please. I personally needed to pre-arrange in advance to assure we took full advantage of our short time in Rome. So, giving us advance options for Rome through Viking would have been preferred. I heard a few others on the cruise who were also in the post-extension trip say the same. We now plan to take many more cruises with Viking. THANK YOU VIKING!!! Read Less

We chose Into the Midnight Sun on the Viking Star because the itinerary was appealing and we find cruising with Viking to be enjoyable. Viking is attractive because their associates are friendly, engaging, sincerely concerned for our welfare and pay close attention to making certain that all details are covered. The itinerary included a pre-cruise option to visit Reykjavik, Iceland. We enjoyed visiting the Blue Lagoon; the national park and its fabulous waterfall; and the city of Reykjavik. Our cruise started in Bergen, Norway and continued on the inside passage past the Arctic Circle to Norway's northernmost point, the North Cape. On the way we visited breathtaking scenic fjords and small villages. The landscape photo opportunities were endless from daybreak to sleep time as there was no darkness. On our way to London, we had relaxing days at sea prior to reaching Scotland's Orkney and Shetland islands where we visited Viking settlements that dated back 5000 years. The final leg of our voyage was exceptional as our large ship navigated the Thames River from the English Channel to Greenwich, London. Read Less

Tour guides were very informative at each visit. Our tour guide Eva in Athens was particularly exceptional. She was knowledgeable and extremely passionate about the prehistoric and historical events leading up to Greece of today Our 6th Viking experience but first on a ship. Different yes but service just as outstanding as onboard a river boat. We really appreciated the effort to keep everything as sanitized as possible with wash stations upon entering eateries and hand sanitizers throughout the ship. Dining options were exciting and enjoyable Manfredi's was a delight, the Restaurant our favorite and the Chef's table a pleasant experience too! We also enjoyed the seafood by the pool! We fell in love once we were on board. Over the top service and warm compassionate crew and servers. We made some new friends and managed to share some laughs and some tears as well. Since we got the free upgrade to The Owner's Suite (TOS) from our explorers suite, Viking did everything in their power to make magic happen on all levels for our 30th anniversary. Attention to detail at every corner and smiling faces at every occasion. That is until we had to leave our cabin and our steward Olivera behind. She made a lasting impression on us and touched our heart. Olivera would make a great Miss America coach one day as she has the ability to take any humble lady and make her realize why she is special and why she deserves to enjoy every aspect of the cruise including spa and take advantage of all the benefits that come with TOS. A special thanks to Olivera, Wendy, Daniel and Hector for making the private party happen with such passionate care. Special thanks to Manuel for his expert planning at the last minute when one of our excursions was canceled (we were the only ones who booked it). Also special thanks to John at the gelato bar and Sara who served up smiles at the same time she served your Sangria and everything else. We pray one day to meet up with this crew and servers again. As far as the excursions go, we felt that we got more out of the custom tours we planned than the major bus excursions. The Vatican museum was pure madness and we should have booked a private excursion there. What folks should take away is that the included tours are going to be super popular ones and the majority of the other tours will still be popular. Our favorite dining experiences were with Manfredi's and The Chef's Table. The calamari at Manfredi's is light and crispy, and they treat their seafood and meat dishes with respect. Daniel and Hector do a great job with their themed fixed menu at the Chef's Table. On the ship, I found the pools to be limiting but at least with Viking they are not crowded. The heated pool area on deck 1 features a slippery set of stairs that I slipped on and tore a gash in my right ankle which is now all black and blue. My issue was that I presumed if it was a pool step it would be like my personal pool and be a little rough on the step surface. I should have planned better, but Viking could make some additional safety precautions in my opinion. Overall, we would definitely book again, and have already planned our next outing to Australia and New Zealand over Thanksgiving 2020. Read Less

We booked our Viking Mediterranean Odyssey cruise and pre-stay in Venice We traveled with another couple, two close friends, who also booked with the same agency, Cruise Planners. In just about every aspect, this trip exceeded our expectations. Our pre-stay in Venice was perfect. What a wonderful city for exploring the maze of narrow streets, canals, shops, and restaurants. Viking put us up in the Hilton Molino Stucky hotel in Venice. The hotel was beautiful with very clean and spacious rooms, a great location away from the crowds, and just a short complimentary water taxi ride to St Marks Square. With our pre-stay and overnight in Venice on the ship, we had a total of three days in Venice - a great beginning to a great cruise. Our ship, the Viking Star, immediately impressed us. This ship was Viking’s first ocean ship and therefore its oldest, but you wouldn't have known that. With its modern, bright Scandinavian decor, it was one of the cleanest ships we have ever seen. Viking included complimentary wine and beer at lunch and dinner, transfers, and two on-board specialty restaurants. Wi-Fi was free and unlimited, and it worked well in cabins and public areas – better than any of the other ships we have sailed. At sea, we were even able to use the Wi-Fi for face time and Wi-Fi phone calls, which is impossible on most cruise ships. One of the most enjoyable complementary inclusions was the Nordic spa, which had a salt water thalassotherapy pool, a steam room, a hot tub, a sauna, heated ceramic lounge chairs and a cold plunge pool, as well as a unique "snow grotto". We also enjoyed the unique infinity pool with a great view from atop the stern of the ship as we cruised along. The ship layout was easy to learn, and navigate as it had a nice, common sense flow to its design. Before our trip we attended a Viking presentation and were told that a ship of this size would normally accommodate about 1200 passengers, yet Viking reduces that to 930 passengers, giving the ship a less crowded feel. This isn't something I put a lot of faith in. After all, when is the last time you cruised and the ship didn’t feel crowded, especially around the buffet? However, Viking was right. The ship really didn’t feel crowded at all. It was easy to relax and enjoy the ship amenities, and we never had a problem getting a lounge chair like many other ships. We had stops in Split, Dubrovnik, Corfu, Naples, Rome, Florence, Monte Carlo, Marseille, and Barcelona with a day at sea. At each port, Viking supplied a free included tour. Most of these were walking tours with some better than others, but we were able to break away from the tour at any time and always had ample time to explore on our own. In addition, there were opportunities to book additional tours at cost. One of the best was an all-day small group tour with a separate tour provider, the Shore Excursion Group, that we did of the Amalfi, Positano, and Sorrento coast with two other couples – a remarkable day that we will always remember. We felt that the food on the ship was OK – not bad but not outstanding either. The important thing to note was that there are several venues for eating, so finding something to our liking was never a problem. As an example for dinner, we had choices of the two specialty restaurants (with reservations), the main dining restaurant, the world café (buffet) and a themed buffet provided at the pool-side grill. The onboard entertainment was very good, with a solo guitarist, solo pianist, string duo, house band and a house vocalist quartet. There were two occasions when local entertainment was brought onboard and we felt that Viking has the opportunity to improve their shipboard entertainment by bringing more good off-Vegas talent onboard for short periods in a manner similar to other cruiselines like Celebrity. The service from the crew was outstanding and the staff seemed genuinely cheerier than what we have seen on other cruise lines. One crew member, who had worked the cruise industry for many years, on several of the major cruise lines told us that Viking was the best company to work for. He told us they really took care of its employees and in his opinion life with Viking was much nicer than any of his other gigs. This positive attitude showed from all of the staff that we encountered throughout the ship. We had a wonderful cruise experience from Viking and Cruise Planners and look forward to more in the future. Read Less

We’d traveled with Viking twice before on their river cruises and love the Viking experience. I took my wife on her first cruise experience to the western Caribbean on one of those large ships and it was a disaster. So I convinced my bride we should try a Viking Ocean Cruise and neither one of us had been to Italy so the Odyssey made sense We started our trip with the Tuscany pre-sailing stay and were so glad we did. They put us up in a beautiful Tuscan Villa just outside of Florence and it couldn’t have been more charming. The accommodations were excellent, the service outstanding and the views were what you’ve seen in movies and pictures. We were taken on full day tours in high end motor coaches with a guide who put all other guides to shame. The tours were nice but as usual, the local guides tried to pump too much information into your ear so off we went to explore on our own once the meeting place and times were set. We enjoy the local shops & such but live just finding a small outdoor cafe and having a coffee or a glass of wine with some small nibbles. Viking bussed us to Venice where we picked up the Viking Star. What a beautiful ship. For a small ship it was quite large. But by comparison, we were docked next to the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Sea and we were tiny by comparison. We had cabin 8007 which we found to be a perfect location. The ship was easy to learn and easy to get around. The first thing you notice is how warm and friendly the crew is. From the stateroom stewards to the bar tenders, waiters, kitchen staff, etc. We spoke to many of the staff we came in contact with and they were genuinely happy to be there despite the hard work and long hours. To a person they all thought Viking was the best of all the cruise lines to work for. There were bars & restaurants all around the ship so getting a drink or a little something to eat was never an issue. There is the World Cafe buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, The Restaurant for breakfast & dinner and two other specialty restaurants that required reservations. Viking has a casual attitude so resort casual is fine for all the restaurants and pretty much anything goes in the buffet. So gentleman, leave your suits and sports coats at home. The real treasure is up in the Explorers Lounge which has a fabulous bar and lounge overlooking the bow of the ship as well as a little cafe that serves the best breakfast waffle you’ve ever eaten and then later in the day some of the best desserts. Cannot recommend it more. There is a wonder spa, workout facility, and an area near the spa with a hot pool, sauna, steam room and a snow grotto. Kinda crazy fun. The included tours and fine for getting around the various ports of call but there are many optional tours available as well at an additional expense. Check those out on line. The included tour in Rome was our least favorite so if there’s something really specific you want to see or do there, book that. Overall, I’m not sure you could have a better cruising experience than with Viking. Nothing in life is perfect but Viking seems to get as close as humanly possible. Now, I’ll caveat that with if you’re a whiny type who just likes to complain about the littlest thing, we’ll, nothing’s going to make you happy so just stay home so the rest of the passengers can enjoy themselves. The room was really nice and we loved sitting on the balcony. Couldn’t ask for better service than we had with keeping our room clean and stocked. We were well taken care of. The restaurants, servers and FOOD was above excellent. Our on shore tours were educational and handled professionally. We were so relaxed and just simply enjoyed the beautiful ship and all it had to offer. The entertainment was very good and a person felt so good leaving the show. The crew, food servers and all other crew members were so helpful and extremely nice. Even the representative who booked our cruise was amazing. It was clear to us that being taken care of was their top priority and worth the price of the cruise. The Viking cruises and river cruises would be first on our list for our next cruise. We have looked through numerous Mediterranean cruise options and found the Viking itinerary and sailing dates to best fit our expectations. This was our first cruise with Viking and we were more than pleased with the choice. My wife is gluten free and could not have been better accommodated. We also experienced a mix of included and optional excursions that fully satisfied our expectations to experience the culture, language, cuisines and religious sites of the ports of call. The Viking Star is well appointed and has a wonderful display of tasteful art. As a smaller ocean going vessel, the staff and crew can focus on each individual guest. We loved the personal touch and level of attention we received especially with our dining experience. The drink package was great and reasonably priced. The entertainment on board was excellent! This cruise was an excellent opportunity to see the entire Mediterranean region in one trip. Viking makes pre-planning, embarkation and disembarkation go smoothly. The ship is a good size (not too large), is very clean, had good entertainment (not too much) and great service. For most shore excursions, the tour guides were excellent, spoke good English, and moved along at a nice pace. There are no children on these cruises, so for my wife and I, this was very relaxing. We enjoyed sharing tables for the dinner meal, and we got to meet some wonderful fellow cruisers. Some ports cannot be completely explored in one day, such as Rome, but tour options gave us the chances to see highlights and perhaps concentrate on one destination. Some ports were surprising. An example was Dubrovnik which is a historical jewel. I also really enjoyed seeing the history of Pompeii. Barcelona was great, and I wish we had extended our stay to be able to explore more of this city. Overall, a great cruise. Read Less

We left Venice May 6th on Viking Star on the "Empires of the Mediterranean".....a long anticipated trip which turned out to be almost as wonderful as we imagined! Our cabin (6087) was spacious and we did spend a lot of time there enjoying the view from our balcony. The Star is a beautiful ship from one end to the other and we quickly discovered our favorite spot was the Explorer's Lounge with wide windows and comfortable seats and a great bar (be sure to get the Silver Spirits package!). We enjoyed our meals in the speciality restaurants much more than the World Cafe which is pretty much a buffet with lots of choices but it became not as special after a few days. However, our time on the Star was compared at every turn to our River Cruise last year on the Viking longboat, Mani. WE LOVED THAT CRUISE! Having a small number of people on a ship certainly makes it easier to make friends which makes for a much happier time! We met three couples almost immediately and we bonded for the whole trip and still are in contact. I hear a lot of people saying the same thing about making friends on a River Cruise. The Ocean ships have over 900 people and not as much opportunity to make friends as there are so many options available for activities and dining. We truly love anything Viking though! Hope for more cruises but the trip over the pond is getting harder and harder. Read Less

Great itinerary and wonderful Viking customer service . This was our third Viking cruise and our first Viking ocean Cruise. Really like being able to meet people on Cruise Critic prior to the cruise. The Meet and Greet put on by Viking was really a nice touch. We were able to make friends on this cruise and book two more cruises with some of the people we met. The tour guides are always so knowledgeable and the ports of call are always the best. The pre-extension in Venice was nice , as was the hotel we were booked into by Viking. Our dining experience was excellent as usual with a wide variety of food available. We met with a Viking representative onboard and booked our next two Viking River Cruises. The discounts we received for booking onboard were great! Service on Viking is always top notch and is a big part of why we keep coming back to Viking. I highly recommend cruising with Viking! In 2016 my husband & I were on Mediterranean Odyssey-Barcelona to Venice. He had a compromised immune system from cancer. He picked up an infection & we had to leave cruise in Civitavecchia, Italy. He has since passed away. I wanted to visit the countries we missed in the Adriatic so my friend & I picked this cruise - same ship my husband & I were on. We loved every port we visited esp. Dubrovnik & Kotor, Montenegro. The food was excellent & surroundings were fantastic. I wish we had one day at sea to enjoy the ship more. I also wish we had chosen the optional tour to Lake Bled when we stopped in Slovenia. We did take an optional tour in Dubrovnik- Land & Sea and in Athens-Acropolis & Museum. We ate dinner at Manfredo’s one night-excellent food & service. We love not having a casino, millions of photos, art sales & “sail always”- let’s sell more drinks. Also enjoys lectures rather than constant shows. On Viking there is a good mix of different kinds of entertainment. Read Less

Traveled with Viking previously and had a wonderful first time experience. This cruse was as good and meet and exceeded our expectations. Met a few of the crew from our previous cruise which was a plus as we appreciated their service on our previous cruise. Everything was smooth from our departure of our first flight to our return. Food and service were great as expected. Traveled with some friends from our previous cruise. Ship and crew were great. Sad to have to leave the ship as we could have used another week! Recommend to others to visit Croatia. Our guide was a young girl during the wars and added a wonderful context to what we saw. The Guide on our tour of Pompeii was so good I would visit again if the same guide was conducting the tour. My wife thought he was handsome as well. he was younger than me and Italian - can't compete! Will travel with Viking again! Thanks for your service and care of your guests. Read Less

We chose Viking for our first ocean cruise based on some friends recommendation and on-line reviews of cruse lines. Viking proved to be as good as all the highly-rated reviews we read. We were so impressed with the attention to detail from the Viking staff. We didn't even have to carry our bags once we got them off the baggage conveyor belt in Venice. When we got to our cabin our bags were there. Every staff member seemed very happy to serve you and made every day enjoyable. The food was every bit up to our expectations. Not even one disappointing meal. We got room service for 3 of our breakfasts and they were prefect...not cooled off from the trip from the kitchen. How do they do that? The special sea food buffet one night was fabulous. Every shell fish imaginable. We loved it, especially the king crag legs. The included excursions were very good, though hard for us to understand all the guides were saying, due to their accents. Not their fault, just hard to follow sometimes. We did 3 paid-for excursions which were much better, especially our trip to San Gimignano and the farm we visited nearby where we had a great buffet lunch. We appreciated that you could opt to be on your own during the port stops, rather than follow the tour guide. We did that several times and it was great. No issues getting back to the ship on time. We didn't go to most of the entertainment events, but the one we did, on the last night was very good. The piano player and 2 guitarists in the atrium were fabulous. Very talented. We were so impressed over-all that we just last week booked another Viking cruise for next year, this time a river cruise. Read Less

Wonderful cruise! We traveled with another couple and had side by side rooms. Our cabins were beautiful and spotless. We were thrilled that they were able to open the veranda divider while at ports. Apparently, this partition must be closed while the ship is in motion. This made visiting back and forth so easy! We chose the included tours at each port, and couldn’t have been more pleased. Due to winds we stopped at Villefranche instead of Monaco. It turned out to be one of our favorite towns, and Viking still provided us with a short bus trip to Monaco. We did hear a few older passengers stating that the excursions were more strenuous than they expected. We are all in our 60’s, and had no problem at all. The food was excellent, and the silver spirits package was well worth it! The nights we made it to the evening (9:15) show...it was great, especially when local entertainers came onboard. The staff was fantastic! I would definitely recommend this cruise. Read Less
