My traveling companion and I picked this cruise first of all because it was a Viking Ship and second because of the itinerary. Outstanding because: 1. Heated floor in bathroom. Ship was kept in spotless condition at all times. 2. Excellent Service. Loved the staff to guests ratio. 3. Fantastic for the delicious food and the additional restaurants at no add'l cost. 4. Loved hearing the chirping birds in the public restrooms. 5. The choice of public spaces where you could enjoy being with others or being by yourself. 6. The bed linens were wonderful with excellent service by the room steward. 7. The inter-active tvs in the public spaces where you can get news, menus, etc. 8. Relaxing and beautiful decor. The gym was sufficient to handle the # of guests. 9. Refrigerator in room with soft drinks, candy and free bottles of water. 10. Informative shore lectures along with entertaining shore excursions all included. 11. On shore excursions, the "Viking" packet of handy wipes to keep germs from spreading. 12. Everything is included in one price - no add-ons (we did upgrade wine pkg which was very reasonable). I have sailed on many cruise lines and have now committed to only sailing on Viking!! Once you sail on Viking Ocean, you will not cruise on any other. No ship can beat Viking. Read Less

Our interest was in the Amazon River and this cruise was the perfect way to see it. Traveled 1,000 miles up River to Manaus. Just what we Wanted. Several stops in the Carabbean islands which was a bonus Overall, the ship and crew may be the best on the seven seas! Very modern and very high tech. Servers use smart phones to send orders to the galley, WiFi everywhere, reservation set up for speciality restaurant was automated, . Ships design had no Casino, no bus stations in the dining rooms, Pool deck movable cover and an art collection that would keep One occurred for days. What was missing was the ground support team that prepared Everything before you got onboard. Really poor support and needs Lots of help in all areas of ground support. Basically you cannot do anything on you own. You must use your travel agent for any question or action of decision and including any air arrangements. Does not work. Read Less

Have done Viking River and decided to do an Ocean voyage. We liked the itinerary to several islands in the eastern Caribbean. We fly on a red eye to San Juan. Transfers went smoothly. Once on board we were impressed by the clean lines and décor of the ship. We stayed in a V1 balcony-we figured that with a port intensive cruise we wouldn't be in our room a lot. The room was plenty spacious and the bath was nice. Because of the hurricanes several passengers had cancelled so the ship was not crowded at all. We also were given $250 ship board credit due to changes in schedule and perhaps to encourage people not to cancel. Having been on several other cruise lines we were very happy with-no photographers, no casino, no art auctions etc. The ship was beautiful and the staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the food and managed to go to Chefs Table and the specialty restaurant also. The excursions were nice overviews and included. We only did one optional excursion in St Kitz. for a walk in the rain forest. I think the highlight of our cruise was midway when returning from an excursion we were greeted with champagne and ~1/3 of the crew out cheering and dancing to the music from the band on the ship. They were high-fiving all of us. Just a nice touch showing their appreciation. Also ever day we left on an excursion at least 1-2 officers were there to wish us well. We enjoyed the entertainment even though it was a small company. We thought they were talented and enjoyed the shows. They weren't big productions but that was fine for us. Overall we really enjoyed the cruise and the ship. We will most likely travel again on Viking Ocean for the smalller size and service. Read Less

I have heard so much about how great Viking Ocean Cruises are that we just had to try it. It was one of our best cruises ever. We enjoyed the ship so very much. It was a quieter cruise than what we have experienced on other cruise lines. The ship is beautiful and we really enjoyed all the quiet places we could go to relax, read, talk and just enjoy. The food was very good and we enjoyed the specialty restaurants as well. One of my favorites was the Norwegian waffles served in the Explorer Lounge area in the mornings. Our favorite restaurant was Manfredi's where we had a steak that I would rate as the best steak I have ever had. Overall the whole experience on this ship was just outstanding. We look forward to another ocean cruise on Viking. We did book a river cruise while on the ship and got a very good deal. Read Less

This was our second Viking Star cruise, first the Inagural year Venice to Istanbul. We arrived in Athens three days early an toured on our own. Once we boarded the Star, we felt we had arrived home. The most welcoming part was several of the bartenders remembered us from two years prior. When you are addressed as Mr. Lang and welcome back, that was it, this was going to be a great trip. Tours— Highly recommend Mykonos by 4X4 vechicle trip, Nazareth & Sea of Galilee Shore Excursion, and last and most memorable From Naples The Vistas & Villages of the Amalfi Coast Shore Excursion. The last one stops in Sorento shipping and Delightful 3 Star restaurant lunch. The road trip along the coast were as advertised most scenic, I finally got the Amalfi Coast off my bucket list after 3 prior visits. Food— My favorite Restaurant is Manfredi’s, memorable fine dining, Chef’s Table was disappointing both trips, the Restaurant is better. My breakfast and late night treat was Mamsen’s in the Explorer Lounge on Deck 7. Interesting note the Executive Chef David McDonald is the only cruise chef I have ever seen throughout the ship we’re food is served- “inspecting the troops”, so to speak, everyday. He has the time to talk to guests- a mark of a true professional. Future bookings and discounts were not available on this cruise because of the official reservations agents departure, a letter was given to some Explorer Members to use this code. I missed the window due to health issues, but will try now on an Amazon Cruise in December 2019. The staff in all corners of the ship were very professional, I believe this is due in part to the original crew who set and maintain a high standard for all new members. All in all Viking out got it right, I hope this experience is transferred the new Ocean ships coming on line. Last — This is not a family cruise for younger folks, I believe as it was modeled this way. Read Less

We have done several river cruises with Viking and were curious about Viking Ocean. The price was good and had free air. We then continue to Cuba on a back to back for a total of 18 days. We found the staff outstanding, the went out of there way to make your cruise enjoyable. The entertainment was very good. The food was very good, and we enjoyed having the option of dinning rooms without additional charges. Our favorite was Manfredi's. As expected, the ports on the Transatlantic were limited, and the shore excursions were a disappointment. However, I enjoyed the Cultural Cuba ports and shore excursions. The Background information and speakers were very good, and made the sea days enjoyable. I had a knee replacement, so I found the main pool hard to get into, and only used it once. The infinity pool at the back of the ship is small, but very enjoyable. The spa therapy pool is very nice, my used it every day. The seating around the the pools were very comfortable. We enjoyed sitting outside the Wintergarden, it was very quiet and comfortable. The pool grill had a great selecton of hamburgers and the onions rings are great. Afternoon tea was fun, and the pastries in the Explorers' Lounge were outstanding. The cabin and balcony was comfortable, but our closet was in an awkward location next to the bed. Read Less

We were looking for a transatlantic cruise for relaxation and comfort. Viking Sun exceeded our expectations. The well trained staff offered excellent service, not only with fulfilling our requests but anticipating our needs. The design and decor of the ship was very attractive with attention to color and comfort detail. Bookshelves stocked with books that would appeal to anyone were scattered throughout the ship. There was always a cozy quiet place to read or simply relax. Dining venues and options were always available from the specialty restaurants to the less formal World Cafe, Pool Grill and Mamsen's. There was something for everyone. The entertainment was diverse - lectures on a variety of subjects, cooking classes, wine tasting classes, ballroom dancing, board games, music, theater shows, movies, and much more. Very impressive to us was that there was absolutely no pressure to buy anything. Attractive stores were available to buy duty free items but so sales pressure. And, there were no photographers ready to snap and urge one to buy. Having heard of these things from fellow travelers on other cruises, this was a big plus for us. If it sounds like we are impressed with Viking - we are, very much so. In fact we have already signed up for another of their cruises next spring. Read Less

We really like the ocean crossings and traveled once before on Viking. This cruise was as wonderful as the first. Embarkation went seamlessly and we were allowed into our cabins a bit early. Cabin was roomy and comfortable. All dining venues are really good on board Viking. We enjoyed Manfredi's and ate there a few times; we skipped the Chef's Table after eating there once on a prior cruise -- just don't like not being able to have a choice of things. The main dining room is definately as good as the specialty dining. The movies in the room were good and we enjoyed the facilities on board. Service is outstanding -- the entire crew really goes above and beyond. Our one real disappointment was the transportation following disembarkation in Florida. We arranged with Viking for a private car to take us to the airport. This was prepaid and not cheap. We followed instructions from two different Viking reps inside the cruise terminal for finding the car only to discover that there was no car, and the representatives outside the cruise terminal had no idea what we were talking about or where to find this car. Of course, you cannot go back inside the terminal to get a Viking person. After literally an hour (seriously, an hour -- we were afraid of missing our plane!), finally a Viking person seemed to find that someone had indeed ordered a car. He called it and 30 minutes later it appeared. Will NEVER use Viking transport again -- we'll take cabs or call an Uber. Read Less

This was a Trans Atlantic Cruise, the first for The Viking Sun, but not the first for my spouse and I. The ship is lovely in every way. It's comfortable, uncrowded, quiet, and supremely well appointed. If it were rated as a hotel (and after all an ocean cruise ship today is a floating hotel/resort) it would be 5 star. The spa is beyond belief. It is open to all passengers unlike on most other cruise ships we have been on. The spa pool is wonderful, as are the hot and cold rooms. The fitness center overlooks the side of the ship instead of the front or rear. It took a bit of getting used to this view while using some of the exercise equipment. The equipment was all new and very state of art. The service in the room was outstanding, with water and towels being provide without needing to ask. What was lacking were daily classes such as a morning stretch class, or ab class, or something such as this. There were classes, but they did not take place daily and weren't specifically stretch, or something like that. The main dining room, called "The Restaurant" needs a new name. The service was excellent, the quality was very good, but the preparation was not up to the standards that one expects on a luxury cruise cruise or fine hotel. As for the alternate dining at Manfredi's Italian was marginal and way too noisy. We dined there twice and both meals were not very good and most certainly not very Italian except by name. The Chefs Table is best described as silly dining. The menu items were interesting and a few of the dishes were quite good. But the dishes didn't work together to make a meal. I would not waste my time eating a dinner in this restaurant. The World Cafe offers the best prepared food on the ship. We don't enjoy buffet dining. But we found ourselves eating at the Cafe one evening after a long day ashore. We had to go back there a few more times because their menu was the same as in "The Restaurant" and was prepared better. As for "The Restaurant" my recommendation is to change the name to "The Dining Room" Fine hotels don't serve fine meals in a restaurant! Read Less

Everything was perfect. Excellent room - Penthouse Jr suite , Fantastic food, excellent crew and no crowds .You always felt welcomed by the entire staff no matter where you were on the ship. Everyone was so helpful and polite. The Penthouse suite was so comfortable and spacious with every possible amenity. The bathroom had double sinks , heated floors and towel rack. The room had two separate areas - each with it's own big flat screen TV. A spacious balcony with table and chairs and a great view. We were on the forward, starboard side of the boat on the top floor. It was extremely quite and private but yet accessible to everything. The food was first class all the way as was the wait staff. Nothing was a problem and they were always there to help through out the meal. When you asked for something specific your wish was always granted. I Had travelled a Viking river cruise earlier in the year for the first time and really enjoyed the trip so, when this transatlantic special came out in my email I thought I would give it a try. I am so glad I did. The staff, food, rooms, and ship were amazing. Truly a wonderful experience. The entire staff was more than helpful and friendly. The accommodations were also more than expected. I especially liked the room service, the food was always hot and prompt. The entertainment was also very talented. I really can't think of anything negative. As for the excursions, we also enjoyed them, but would have liked to spend a little more time in Bermuda. There really was just barely enough time to enjoy the port. We enjoyed our trip so much that we booked another trip on the Sun for Nov 2018. Can't wait to go again. Oh and we are leaving for our second viking river cruise in 25 days! I think that says it a lot for Viking. Read Less

We've heard so much about Viking Ocean that we wanted to give it a try. The price was right as was the itinerary: Lisbon to Miami. The pre-cruise stay was at a hotel in the heart of the downtown area, thus, far more expensive than the type of hotel we would normally use. The city tour was a bit short for the price. This was our 3rd visit to Lisbon, and it's a great city to visit. Dining options: Restaurant: superb menu with food prepared superbly World Cafe: Buffet: amazing -- "hot" breakfast food was actually hot; evening dinners were varied and, to be redundant, superb Manfredi's Italian: best food on the ship, where almost all food was superb Chef's Table: fixed menu, not much in the way of choices. Mistake to even try it, a mistake we won't ever repeat. Room: we were upgraded to a 'junior suite" which happened to be a handicapped accessible room. For a wheelchair dependent person, it would have been superb. For us, the deficiencies (no place to put the soap, shampoo, etc) outweighed the positives. In addition, the ship was on its initial mid-Atlantic cruise. Ship had too many repairs in and around our room. Read Less

This was our first Viking Ocean Cruise (We had previously been on a couple Viking River Cruises.) and our first Atlantic crossing. It won't be our last! Everything was perfect from booking to disembarking in Miami. Because the Atlantic crossing has few ports to visit, my wife and I were both concerned about so many days at sea. We should never have been concerned as we were kept busy beginning in the morning with a great breakfast followed by a workout in the beautiful fitness center and spa. The pool, lectures and other provided activities kept us busy throughout the day. Lunch either poolside or in one of the dining areas was always great. Dinner in the evening was followed by a show and then either dancing and drinks in Torshavn, a movie under the stars or maybe a brisk walk around the deck. We have cruised with at least 6 other cruise lines in the past, but none compared with Viking. From the absence of photographers always wanting to take your photo to complimentary beer, soda and wine provided at lunch and dinner it quickly sets Viking apart from the others! The free speciality restaurants were amazing. If you like steak, don't miss the ribeye at Manfredi's! Entertainment was low key but always fun and entertaining. Don't expect a Vegas casino type production, but do expect to have an enjoyable hour of entertainment. We enjoyed our first ocean cruise with Viking so much we have our second one planned for October. Read Less

This was the maiden crossing for this ship, and it was amazing to be on board a brand new vessel. The rooms are very nice and cleverly designed. The ship itself is stunning. The food was consistently excellent. Very impressive, considering the price point. Only slightly below Seabourn in quality, although far less fussy. The wine choices could have been better. Service was good, but it was clear that many people were still learning their roles on such a new ship. I noticed that other passengers were not very polite or patient on this point, and some were rude and outspoken: they paid full price, and didn't expect anything less than full service. If I have any major complaint, it actually regarding my fellow passengers. Too many were rude and that made my uncomfortable. I've rarely seen that type of behavior on other ships, and it left me wondering if Viking attracts a certainly type of personality. Read Less

After much research we decided on an Atlantic crossing to get a bit of flavor of the old-time crossing cruises. We needed the relaxed atmosphere and the amenities of this cruise line to convince us to try ocean cruising. We enjoyed every bit of the time on board. We relaxed, exercised, ate and relaxed some more. We enjoyed every minute, and were ready to come home to the winter holiday rush! Embarkation and discharge went smoothly, as did the two ports of call. The food variety was delightful. We really felt like we "knew" the ship after a few days. The small swimming pool at the stern of the ship was lots of fun. We especially liked the variety of food choices, and the fresh fruits and vegetables available with every meal and snack. The one HUGE burger we had was delicious!! We will do another crossing voyage with Viking in the future, probably going in the opposite direction from Puerto Rico to Spain. Read Less

Always wanted to cross the ocean and Lisbon was a bonus for us. Spent five days there before the crossing. Thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine in all venues. Such great food and superb service. Like that it is all inclusive including the spa which is lovely and relaxing. Only have rave revues for this beautiful ship, crew and amenities. The entertainment was great each night and often during the day. I like that it is so clean and I don't have to block my ears with dirty humor or words. The lectures during the day were interesting. We really liked the four talks by the man who rowed the Atlantic, and Pacific. Amazing and perfect as we crossed an ocean. I liked using the spa, hot tub, sauna and snow room as well as big pool which was a wave pool one day as we rolled with the sea. The two stops were great, seeing the Azores and Bermuda which we had never visited. Interesting tour in the Azores. included. A surprise which we enjoyed was the ability to watch tv In Our room and see the series of Downtin Abbey. You see, we liked the whole experience and the Viking Sun is a lovely new ship. The Viking Sky has unique touches not found on any of the other lines we've cruised with. One clear diference is they run it more like a river boat, with all the civilized included features like free wine & beer with meals, a free shore excursion in every port (there are other, more active excursions you can pay for), free self-laundry and mini bar, and - best of all - UNLIMITED INTERNET!!! We added the "silver package" for mixed drinks at a reasonable price, compared to Holland America or Princess, for example. What they don't have is all those obnoxious ads for jewelry drawings, art auctions, etc. They also don't have a casino or bingo games (although their very healthy Trivia competition attracts an enthusiastic crowd). The theme of the ship is Norse. Besides the Scandinavian tapestry-type wall art, paintings and a Viking relics decor, even the washrooms take you to the north woods, complete with beautiful birdsong recordings. The Norwegian artist, Edvard Munch, is featured nightly in the atrium, complete with terrific musical performers. Our cruise started in New York City and the seas got very bumpy the first night and next day. If you have any level of motion sickness, I'd recommend you get trans dermal patches from your doctor, a wrist band or even just non-drowsy Dramamine. That way you don't lose a day feeling bad. We went through a pretty severe tropical storm that prevented us from visiting Bermuda, but we all received an email with a large credit toward a future cruise, which was thoughtful of them. My suggestion is to avoid the first-deck gym if there's a really bad storm - I was on the treadmill when a huge wave smashed through a large window. Scary! But makes a good story afterwards. They had it fixed in a matter of minutes. The crew and performers are pretty typical - kind of a United Nations of servers. They're all very attentive and nice. I was impressed that many of them remembered our names by the second or third day! There is both a promenade and an upper track for walking or jogging, plus shuffle board and golf. The scheduling of enrichment lectures and activities was a little off, but when I complained, Guest Services pointed out that everything is available on your in-room TV screen by the same evening. So you don't actually have to miss anything due to conflicts. The big movie screen "under the stars" plays pretty good films, and you get cord-free Bose headphones to listen with so the sound's not blaring and disturbing others. The food in The Restaurant was okay, but nothing to write home about. Manfredi's Italian restaurant is terrific - they have the same, good-sized menu every evening but there's always a fish of the day and pasta of the day. Some people loved the Chef's Table, where you just go in and sit down, and they take your through a gastronomical adventure, but take a look at the menu before you make a reservation. There is no choice once you sit down; you just go with the flow. Food-lovers Alert: We discovered that the buffet at dinnertime actually served the best food of all, with lots of choices every night, including an awesome seafood/sushi station! On nice evenings we could even sit outside on the back of the ship. Delightful. Getting onto the ship was a piece of cake, but disembarking in Miami was a little messy. I think this was Miami's fault, though, and not Viking's. We are looking forward to our next Viking journey (maybe minus the storm at sea) and would recommend Viking to anyone without kids. Read Less

This was the best cruse we have ever been on. Beginning at the time we boarded until we very reluctantly disembarked we could not have been more pleased. The service was impeccable. The food unbelievable. The overall experience was most satisfying and rewarding. Someone asked us about the food on board. Our answer is imagine the best place you have ever eaten - well, we ate there 3 meals a day for 2 weeks! The smaller ship sailing experience is quite remarkable. When getting on and off at ports it was a breeze. On other cruses with thousands of passengers it can be a real pain and extremely slow. We might have waited 2 minutes one time at the gangway. Everything is run like an extremely well oiled machine and the passenger is the sole focus of the crew. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we booked a future ocean cruse with Viking while on board. We won't be going back to the crowded big cruise liners in the future. We are SPOILED by and HOOKED on Viking. Read Less

We chose this cruise to try out Viking Ocean Cruises. We have been on 35+ Princess and 1 RCL ocean cruises. We took a Viking River cruise last year and loved it so we wanted to see how they were for ocean cruises. For us, we loved this cruise. Embarkation was easy just needed ticket and passport. Only a little delay as the agent had trouble with his handheld passport scanner. Towelettes and champagne were waiting as we boarded. A week before we sailed we were notified that we had been upgraded to the penthouse junior suite. Among other things (like free laundry) our room was ready when we boarded. The ship is small but very modern, clean and bright, only 930 guests and 400 or so crew. There is a spa, fitness center, and 2 shops. There are 2 pools and a couple of hot tubs. A pool grill is open for lunch but closes about 5 PM. They serve tea every day at 4. Activities like ballroom dance classes, trivia, cooking shows, etc happen through the day. There is usually only one activity at a time, so no decisions to be made as to which to do. They had 5 speakers on board and thus many enrichment lectures. We had a live narration when leaving NY Harbour. Wifi is included and it is pretty fast. Our room was large, spacious. The room and bathroom is larger than some hotel rooms I’ve been in. The sitting area is separated from the sleeping area by a curtain. The room is equipped with both European and North American power outlets as well as USB connections by the bed. Plenty of drawers and closet space. Large bathroom, the shower can fit two people easily, 2 sinks and plenty of counter and storage space. The floor is heated. The balcony will sit 6 easily with room to move. Most rooms come with a mini bar that is replenished daily. It has soft drinks, alcohol and snacks. There is a desk vanity with a lift up lighted mirror and compartments to organize small items. They provide binoculars, umbrella, slippers, and housecoats for your use. There are 2 shops on board but nothing is pushed on you. Using the spa facilities is included in the fare. This includes the steam and sauna room, the snow grotto, and the whirlpool. Charges only apply for services. There are self-serve free laundry facilities including detergent. Dining is open seating, no fixed tables or time. Lots of tables for 2 along with larger tables should you want to share or eat with friends. The dining room is run just like a restaurant. No trays piled with 10 meals. You are served immediately and your food service is prompt. The food is excellent. Wine, beer and soft drinks are included with lunch and dinner. You can also bring your own wine for dinner without any corking fees. The specialty restaurants are awesome. Manfredi's, is Italian style and has steaks, chops and, of course, pasta dishes. The other one is the Chefs Table and has a preset menu consisting of 5 courses. Each course is paired with a wine. The food was beautiful to look at and tasted amazing. The menu rotates every 3 days. Lots of space to sit around the ship both inside and outside. We never were in an area where we couldn’t find a seat even at the pool and buffet. The service was exceptional. Staff are very friendly and did everything they could to make the trip wonderful. The theater can be section off at the back to provide 2 cinemas. Entertainment is in the theater as well as the Atrium and at the pool. Entertainers include a pianist, guitar soloist, string trio and a party band, there was a guest comedian as well. There are singers and dancers on board. Entertainers include a pianist, guitar soloist, string trio and a party band. There was a guest comedian as well. All the entertainers had a high caliber of proficiency and were very versatile. They do shows, but not production type. The shows are small song tributes and dance routines. There was a Beatles tribute night up at the pool. Very relaxed atmosphere. Oh yeah, no kids, no teens. There are no kid programs at all. There is no casino or bingo, and there are no annoying photographers on board. No prizes for trivia winners (you get a drink from the bar - non alcoholic I believe). Tours are run similar to other ships, some meet on shore and some in the theater. Water bottles are provided as you leave to take on the tours. There is one tour included for each port. Optional tours are also available. Read Less

Wanted to try a Viking Ocean Cruise. In 2007 we took a Viking River Cruise in Russia which was not great.......the ship, food, cabin, etc, were in general BAD. The destinations were most interesting but as a river cruise experience, we have not been on one since. This Ocean cruise was GREAT except for some really rough weather. The programs and lectures were very interesting, frequent and varied. Accommodations in all areas of the ship were excellent. In particular the free wi-fi seemed to me like a no "brainier." Also the ship was not burdened with the usual jewelry/watch shops, or a casino, which did not please wife. The crew and staff were always courteous and helpful. I enjoyed the daily tea service and classical music throughout the ship. I thought the main pool was a bit small, however I guess it is commensurate with the ship's size. Food and restaurants were very good. Available laundry/dry cleaning service was also a nice extra. Read Less

This ship has a surprising spaciousness for a smaller ship, and it took me almost a week to figure out why: every cabin is an exterior room with balcony, so there's lots of extra space inside. The decor is lovely - lots of Viking stuff - and the staff is great. Even though the weather out of New York started out very wet with rocky seas (it was a transition cruise and very low priced) everything calmed down after a couple of days. There's a retracting roof over the pool, and a big plus is the movie screen, where they play films under the stars (or roof, weather depending). Everyone gets Bose wireless headphones, so there's no extraneous noise. My three favorite things were the included wifi (so civilized), the sheer number of books around the ship available to read, and the seafood buffet every night up in the world cafe. Usually, we use the buffet for breakfast and lunch, and dine in a nicer restaurant, but it was hard to beat the dinner buffet. So we mixed it up between all the restaurants. We got a drink package, which was very reasonable, but even if you don't there's plenty of wine & beer at lunch & dinner. Also nice is having the option of an included shore excursion (they're usually your basic get-on-a-bus-panoramic tour) and you can often fit in the included tour plus an extra one that fits your particular interests. We liked being able to do our own laundry at no charge (you don't have to pack so much that way!) and having no "formal" nights is just fine. Dress up when you feel like it, or don't dress up at all. Your choice. The room felt a little tight at first, but once we moved in it turned out to have plenty of room for everything. The bathroom in particular has some great storage drawers and shelves. Downstairs, the spa is very good but I never figured out how to go into the snow room without slipping on the ice that builds up on the floor as it snows - actually snows. They might have fixed that out by now. The top deck is all sportsy and I enjoyed walking around the track, playing mini golf and shuffle board. The entertainment was terrific - between the stage shows and the smaller musical groups there was lots of variety. We can't wait to get back on board the Sky in just a couple weeks. Read Less

We had never cruised with Viking before but seeing photos of their new Ocean ships, we fell in love with the aesthetic and the designs of the ships. First impressions on board, the staff were so friendly and helpful, immediately had a glass of wine in hand and we were off to a great trip. We were on the 8th floor in a deluxe Veranda Cabin. First time having a balcony on a cruise and loved it. We hit rough seas leaving New York and I was starting to wonder what we got ourselves into but once we arrived in the Caribbean it was calm and beautiful. The drink package was a great deal and allowed us to try many different new wines with dinner, the wine stewards were also very good with their suggestions. We did not partake in many activities on board, we enjoyed our team reading, going to the indoor spa and gym, and using the pools. The Spa was a nice touch and after a port day was very relaxing and enjoyable. The main dining room was always very good and I liked the regional tasting menus at each destinations. Manfredi's Italian was very good and I absolutely loved the Chef's Table, I wish I had tried all the different menus. I have booked another viking Cruise for December 2018 and can't wait. Read Less

We chose Viking based on what others have said at work. Our other 7 cruises have been with Royal Caribbean and when our friends asked us to compare the two, we simply told them that there was no comparison. Viking was superior in every aspect of the cruise. The first night was especially memorable since the ship headed into Hurricane/Tropical Storm Phillipe off the East coast. The ocean was extremely rough and many many of the passengers and crew were sick. Difficult times like this bring out the true character of a ship and its crew and Viking was totally up to the challenge and task at hand. The next few days after the storm, we did not hear a single disparaging remark, only praise. We feel that the attitude and professionalism of the crew, the spacious staterooms with many small amenities not found on other cruise lines, excellent food, had contributed to a truly delightful experience. In the future, we will sail exclusively with Viking on both river and ocean cruises. Read Less

My husband and I were disgruntled Royal Caribbean customers: the service got worse as the ships got bigger. Our last RCI ship had 6,000 passengers (Viking carries 980 max) and 17 decks. Since positive reviews and chat rooms pointed to Viking, we booked the 14 night "Around the Caribbean" which covered Bermuda, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Curacao, Jamaica, Aruba, and Grand Cayman. We did an excursion at each port, all were outstanding, especially St. Lucia. Viking Sky, built this year, and had numerous seating areas with little quite nooks tucked in all around the ship. The chairs and sofas were very comfortable. Dining in all of the restaurants was a treat. Contrary to other lines whose specialty restaurants charge for their services, Viking did not. So we indulged in all of them multiple times. House wines and beer are included free of charge with lunch and dinner. Service was impeccable. Read Less
