To experience a smaller ship with less crowds. The explorers lounge quickly became our go to spot. Lots of comfortable seating with beautiful views, provided peace & solitude. We experienced excellent customer service in every department. Many great food options. Easy to get a table in all venues. The LIV Nordic Spa sealed the deal for me! The staff is focused, dedicated & extremely knowledgeable. Steam/snow room was an everyday experience I was so grateful for. Overall, I have never felt so well taken care of. Tea Time was such a wonderful time with live musicians. We attended meditations with Tessa, watched movies under the stars and walked the promenade every day. Having laundry rooms available is so very much appreciated! Visiting Panama Canals was truly the highlight of sightseeing on this trip. Passing through and then watching the ships come and go all day was fascinating! Thank you for the most amazing 2 weeks of my life Read Less

We chose this cruise for a break after the Christmas festivities. Fewer crowds. Took the included tours. While informative, somewhat boring. Will consider “pay “ tours in the future. I strongly DO NOT recommend included tour in Cartegena. On the bus looking at the poverty of the area then to a less than photographic lighthouse. Then back on the bus. No time to explore/ shop in the city prior to boarding. We had the ES1 suite. Nice amenities. However, water leak from toilet 2 days in a row. Crew was prompt to fix it on day 2. Few activities on board so LOTS of downtime and looking for things to do on sea days. This is our first “small ship “ cruise. Good staff/customer ratio. Staff willing to chat and share their stories. Able to see many of the same customers and get to know each other more easily than the larger ships. Overall, good cruise. Excellent staff. Food OK. Evening shows good. Cabin staff 5stars! Read Less

Previous river cruises with Viking was the main incentive to try and ocean cruise. The accommodation and cabin facilities were very good including services of our steward in the cabin. She was very attentive to our requirements and kept the cabin well appointed throughout. The food on bard was very good including the specialty dining. Enjoyed use of the spa and facilities. Entertainment shows were very good and well worth attending. Not overely impressed with some of the shore excursions particularly when I felt that they were just occupying time without too much purpose. Overall the cruise was very good value. Travel to and from uk was okay but would prefer a single flight to arrive at the ship. Less hassle involved with transfers. We enjoyed the space on board Viking Star and the layout appeared very good. Would have appreciated better evening snacks to eat made available. Staff were very friendly and tried to assist with our requirements. Read Less

We'd travelled on Viking Sky on our honeymoon, and knew the exceptional level of service that Viking aim to deliver, so this was a much anticipated opportunity to relax. Cabins are all outside, all with balconies and furniture, so there was a wonderful sea view all the trip,. Cabin was really well cared for by the housekeeper for our section, right down to fresh ice delivered twice a day, and swapping all our sodas for tonic water, to go with the gin we took with us....a g& t on board will cost you £11...if that's all you drink each evening take it with you, as the on board complimentary wine and beer witheals is excellent, and regularly topped up! Otherwise, stump up £15-£18.50 a day each for the silver beverage package, and all your drinks are included all day....there didn't appear to be anyone drinking the day through on our boat. Food is simply stunning. Emphasis on presentation, flavour and skilled, attentive service in all of the restaurants, again all included in the price. Pool bar grill doing fresh steaks, burgers & chicken, with a superb and varied salad bar was our favourite for lunch...world cafe self service for breakfast... although we never got to the restaurant for breakfast we intended to! Seating in the restaurant is done by maitre d ...tables for two the majority, or a few tables for four or larger.. menu is varied every day..some standbys..striploin steak, chicken breast, salmon fillet....along with a regional menu reflecting the current whereabouts of the ship, and a larger more fine dining menu. Collared shirt and trousers are the minimum dress required for any of the restaurants in the evening....this is a strictly above 18 cruise...no children anywhere!! It's wonderful!! There's a spa with snow room sauna and plunge pool...all included, plus evening shows in the theatre. Afternoon tea in the winter garden, accompanied by either the concert pianist, the string quartet or the classical guitarist every day. Two pools, small, but adequate for the 930 maximum passengers....and there's loads of secluded comfortable places around the ship to sit and read, relax, take in the view....our favourite is the upper part of the Explorer lounge, on deck 8 . Staff are welcoming, proficient, and plentiful....never had to wait long for anything! There are a wide range of excursions on offer, at least one included one in each port of call. On our honeymoon trip, we booked morning and afternoon trips, then found ourselves rushing to keep up with the schedule, and not giving ourselves time to enjoy the ship. This time we just did the inclusive tours, and were entertained and informed on each. I'd thoroughly recommend this for anyone in their active 50's, 60's etc who loves history, architecture, classical music, fine food& service, and a level of effortless comfort that makes your holiday a real break. Having sailed on the River Yangtse with Viking we looked forward to experiencing an ocean cruise with them. The high standards of their river cruise was matched on this cruise from Barcelona to London. We have cruised on a number of other companies ocean cruises but this was head and shoulders above all. Staff were courteous and helpful without being intrusive. The ship belied the fact that it was almost 4 years old now and all facilities including stateroom were impeccable. The stateroom was light and airy and the balcony was comfortable. However it was narrower than ideal with an intrusion on the wall facing the bed which narrowed the room by about 4 inches or so. I don't believe all rooms had this feature (a support for the deck above I suppose) and without it it may not have felt so narrow (my wife uses a walking stick). The shower room was brilliant and the best we have experienced. Generous sized shower cubicle with glass door and impressive performance from the shower, heated floor & anti-fog mirror. Excellent as were the supplied toiletries. We choose the Silver Spirits drinks package to augment the standard drinks with meals that are included as part of the cruise. Whilst inexpensive I think we would have spent less without it as we are moderate drinkers - but it was an easy choice and one I do not regret. Dining in all venues was a pleasure and the variety of menus suited my (simple) palate but I'm sure would also appeal to the more adventurous. Entertainment was relaxing, enjoyable and always well performed be it stage shows or resident acts in the various locations on the ship. The pre-cruise information on the itinerary was both impressive and comprehensive. We did not participate in any excursions owing to my wife's health but I did not hear any advert comments regarding any excursions undertaken by other guests - in fact they were all complimentary. We had a post-cruise extension to the London Hilton, Park Lane, Mayfair and the transfer to the hotel was very good with an interesting commentary from the on-board guide. Similarly transfer to the ship in Barcelona and the private transfer to Heathrow for our flight home was very well organised. A very successful cruise and we would be delighted to sail with Viking Ocean again - first things first though - our Viking Danube cruise at the end of March! Read Less

Good sized cabin with adequate balcony. Very well furnished and equipped. Excellent and good sized shower room with heated floor and main mirror. Very wide choice of food at all meal times. First class main restaurant on deck 7 which was never a problem to get a table in. Superb choice of food at every meal. Lovely formal restaurant on deck 2 which again offered many choices. Alternative coffee bars and eateries for snacks between main meals. Plenty of room for everybody on this ship at all times. Never a problem getting a seat in any of the lounges. Very well organised tours that were most enjoyable. First time on a smaller cruise ship, but definitely not the last. Much preferred to the ocean giants which get s crowded. Read Less

We embarked from Lisbon on Dec.16th at 11:00 PM. On Dec.17th at 12:00PM the Captain made announcement we are unable to sail to the Azores due to stormy seas and for our passengers safety. We are sailing to Mederia and will be there tomorrow. The ship was rolling sideways all day long and into the night. I have been on 60+ cruises and I know when the stabilizers are not on, the ship doesn't roll side to side, up and down yes. Many passengers where sea sick and one female passenger was injured due to a fall. Why are the passengers safety at risk? Who is responsible? The Captain or Viking or both. On Dec. 19th the Captain states we are not sailing to Bermuda due to rough seas. Our friends on board the ship where supposed to meet relatives in Bermuda. They called their relatives and gave them the bad news. They stated the water around Bermuda was like a lake. Someone is not telling the truth. Why was our cruise ship traveling at 16 knots when cruising speed is 20 knots? The stabilizers were activated the day we left Mederia causing a drag on the ship and consuming more fuel. Viking made a decision to cancel Bermuda due to fuel consumption and to conserve fuel by traveling 16 knots or didn't have enough time for Bermuda and get back in time to Miami. The service was excellent. The food at breakfast and lunch was excellent. The food at diner was average. The Chef's Table should be closed, the food was terrible. The ship itself was beautiful and tastefully furnished with a lot of space to relax. Read Less

One of the reasons we chose this particular cruise was because of the stop in Bermuda. Well, on embarkation, we found out we couldn’t go to The Azores because of weather. We went south to Madeira instead. But, since we went south and then across the Atlantic from that point, we were too far south to go to Bermuda. We had hoped to see Bermuda to figure out where we wanted to go back and stay. Very disappointing. The wait staff knew much earlier than we did that we were not going. The Restaurant was very lovely. I don’t remember being asked ‘to share’ a table on the Sun. We were asked every night on this cruise if we’d share. The World Cafe was the same quality as the Sun. We enjoyed the ability to have wine or beer with our meals. Manfredis didn’t seem as good as on the Sun. And, the only way we could get a table was to share! We loved room service and had coffee in the room every morning. Predictable and good. Read Less

This was a transatlantic christmas cruise from lisbon to miami, florida. we chose it for the fact it was over christmas and we wanted to experience being at sea over the christmas season. It was all we expected and more. beautiful ship, viking sky. we spent two days in lisbon which was beautiful. the city was all decked out for this special time of the year. From the greeting at the airport and transfers to the hotel tivoli, which was also outstanding, to embarkation, everything was professionally handled. Our cabin was beautiful and very comfortable. lots of storage space. Breakfast and lunch at the world cafe was more than we expected with wonderful friendly service and choice of food. dinners in the restaurant were not the quality of the other venues. most dinners were warm, never hot, and choices were somewhat odd for our tastes. Entertainment good with a variety of choices. The first port was passed due to weather conditions, like the azores, bermuda was also missed. we did make funchal, which was lovely with one of the best tours in our many years of cruising. Viking is definately on our list for future cruising. Read Less

My husband and I chose this cruise because it was an affordable way to check out Viking, and we hadn't taken a holiday cruise previously. We are experienced cruisers but not with Viking. We picked up the cruise partway through in Lisbon, so we had no time to explore before embarkation. The first 48 hours were rough. There were maintenance problems with our cabin (a blocked drain caused disgusting material to come into the shower) and the table on our verandah was unusable because it rocked back and forth. We also waited over an hour for our food at lunch in the restaurant on the first full day. Once the maintenance issues were fixed, things improved. The food was amazing; we ate most of our meals in the cafe and the service there was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the ship's entertainers and musical productions. We went to movies and many ship lecturers' presentations. There was always something interesting to do if we wanted, and plenty of places to sit quietly and read a book if we wanted down time. The seas were very rough and due to rain we were unable to visit the scheduled ports of The Azores and Hamilton, Bermuda, so that was disappointing, but safety comes first. A stop in Madeira, Funchal was substituted, and the included excursion there was an excellent overview of the island. I found the cabin to be cramped compared to the other cruise line we have sailed most often. Storage was especially poor and there were several ways it could have been improved if the cabin had been designed better. We were especially impressed with the friendliness and accessibility of the ship's officers. We had never been on a ship where the captain made a point of stopping to talk with folks in the public areas; the cruise directors, hotel manager, and others did the same thing. While I would not recommend a Trans-Atlantic cruise in December, I highly recommend Viking and the Viking Sky!! It was a wonderful vacation. We now have two more Viking cruises booked for 2020 and 2021. Read Less

I choose this trip to try out Vioking which always portrays itself as a luxury cruise line. It is not. I also choose this cruise for the stops at the Azores and Bermuda which did not happen so the trip was 14 days of Atlantic ocean. The speakers were disappointing, the television and internet did not work including the computer system in the restaurant which created long lines and confusion. The "Explorer" Desk displayed a lack of knowledge and programs for solo travelers was non-existent. Additionally, they were painting the interior of the boat near the restaurant which only added to nausea for several passengers. Added to this was my knowledge that I had paid +68% for a single supplement that feels discriminatory and needless since there was 200 empty cabins. The crew, as with any other cruises I have taken were delightful except for the Dining Room Manager who did not know what a proper cappuccino was! The 24-hour room service was appreciated. Read Less

We liked the combination of a Western Mediterranean itinerary followed by a relaxing trans Atlantic cruise over the Holidays. Our impressions were overwhelmingly positive and we would definitely cruise with Viking again, either River or Ocean. But I will point out two issues where this cruise did not match well with our needs. The excursions were top notch, and informational material made it clear that "moderate" exertion would be involved, with a lot of walking and standing, so I was prepared for that. What I did not expect was how long the walk at disembarkation/embarkation would be. Walking on/off ship was10-15 minutes at many ports, and a couple of times, I was pushed to my limits at the end of the trip. This concern was common among many on those tours, and we were not in the "limited mobility" category. And second, a more minor concern was with the gym/exercise area. I practice yoga, and there were mats, props and floor space available. But right next to those of us looking for a quiet practice were men grunting loudly while they lifted weights. I quit going to the exercise area early in the trip and practiced on the floor of my cabin. I would have gone to more classes or used the mat area independently if there had been a quieter space. We chose this cruise because it stopped at all the islands we were interested in. My husband will only cruise with Viking, and this cruise did not disappoint us. The crew, all treat you like royalty. Something I have not experienced on other cruise lines. The cabin was kept very clean and supplied with whatever we requested every day. The food, you just can't say enough about the food and the presentation! Exceptional. We took a tour of the galley and that was extremely interesting to see, well worth the time. We like Viking as there are no kids allowed under 18, makes it so much more pleasant for us. The excursions we took were great, some better than others. Embarkation and Disembarkation is a breeze with Viking. So much so, we forgot a bag at the terminal, and the crew were amazing and brought the bag to us at the airport. This is my 2nd cruise on Viking Jupiter this year. As with our previous cruise in July, Into the Midnight Sun, this 3 week transatlantic did not disappoint. Enjoyed seeing some previously unvisited ports, Malaga, Spain, Casablanca, Morocco, Dakar, Senegal, Recife, Brazil and Montevideo, Uruguay. Lovely sea days for relaxing, enjoying spa and pools, programs and even a cooking class with a chef. As always, the staff/ crew service was amazing. Cheerful and always helpful. Our Junior Penthouse suite was spacious and kept immaculately. I enjoyed the complimentary laundry service, which surprised me. I am a little picky about how my clothes are handled. The wait staff was quite attentive, even during “rush” conditions. Complimentary wine and beer flowed at lunch and dinner. The quality and variety of the wines was good. Food was yummy with many local/ regional foods served throughout the cruise. The spas on Viking Ocean cruises are awesome and not to be missed. Many passengers new to the ship sometimes miss this area...so be sure to check it out. The snow grotto and the thermal beds are really amazing. The music at different venues was entertaining. The food at all the restaurants was fine and the portions appropriate. The drinks at the bars were well mixed. We enjoyed talking to all the help staff. The ship is well sized and very Scandinavian in interior design. No garish color and lights. Simple and and decorated with beautiful black and white photographs. Hallways and all the venues were kept clean. The nightly shows were very good. We were able to meet the entertainers after the shows and on the ship. We were able to talk at length to some of them. We chose this trip because of the itinerary and past experiences with Viking River Cruises. The fact that Jupiter was a new ship was also one that intrigued us. We had never done a transatlantic in a small ship, but the ride was just as smooth as one of the larger ships. The food was the best food we have had on any cruise. We ate at the specialty Italian restaurant as well as the Chef's Table, but the food in the dining room was equally good. The Jupiter was immaculate in cleanliness and organization. We like the idea of not having a casino. There was plenty of common space to just lounge around, and the ship never felt crowded. The enrichment lectures were wonderful with a variety of topics. We went to three of the planetarium shows which were informative and entertaining. We highly recommend the Jupiter Viking especially for seniors. Read Less

The crew was marvelous-- they knew my name by day 2. And were so gracious and accommodating, The port calls were varied and very interesting. Perfect for the person who wants to see the world and experience different cultures. Not for the casual tourist. The excursions offered a great variety of ways to explore each city. My bike tour through Buenos Aires was fabulous, as was the safari outside of Dakar. I was pleasantly surprised that Viking also offered free shuttles in most of the ports to center of towns for casual shopping or sightseeing after/before the organized tour. The many offered history lectures were outstanding and thought provoking. My cabin mate enjoyed the on-board entertainment. The spa was beautiful and relaxing and very accessible and was included in cost of voyage-- no hidden fees. Very nice. Our sea crossing smooth, the weather unbelievable! I chose Viking Ocean Cruises because of my previous great experiences with Viking River Cruises. I chose this particular trip from Barcelona to Buenos Aires because of the variety visiting three continents and the experience of crossing the Atlantic by ship for the first time. The Viking Jupiter is a beautiful ship with a wonderful physical layout and the Viking staff could not have been more professional, attentive and friendly. The food venues and menu choices were very good. The entertainment throughout the ship and in the Star Theater were much better than I expected for a small cruise ship. Additionally, there were regular excellent presentations on history and issues relevant to the places we visited on this cruise. While on this cruise, my wife and I signed up for another Viking Ocean Cruise in April 2021. We plan and do our own land trips in Europe, so we are not just cruisers, but we certainly plan to more Viking Ocean Cruises as we advance in age because Viking really took good care of us on this trip and made it so enjoyable and worry-free. Greeters were there to guide us through the whole process and onto the bus. Staff on the ship were all friendly and courteous. Coffee was terrible in the world cafe. Steaks in the world cafe were mostly raw - It was difficult to get medium rare. One never felt crowded on the ship. A little frustrating on the tours to be included with people of lesser mobility. Perhaps it would be better to have half of the buses / tours designated for this difference. Walking tours were problematic in this regard - some folks wanted to go back to the ship 15 min after starting because they could not handle the walk. There was never an "push" to sell things to you...photos, drinks etc. We did a both a galley and bridge tour that was very informative We have sailed with Princess over 32 times but I hope to exceed that with Viking. In fact while on board we booked another cruise for Oct. 2020. The only comment would be more transfers to the airport. This was a repositioning cruise that I wanted to take a friend on since he had never been on a cruise or to the Caribbean. What better than a Viking cruise! We were greeted at the airport by Viking staff before we even had our luggage then whisked off to our ship. My companion was in awe! My companion, as well as myself, were so impressed with the fast, efficient sign in and welcome on the ship. Our cabin was perfect with plenty of space for our belongings and room to move around. We loved exploring the ship, using the pools, quiet areas, socializing and shore excursion informative presentations. The musicians performing around the ship was an added pleasure as were several of the shows we went to. The shore excursions offered an overall view of the islands and were well organized. Due to hurricanes a couple of years ago, a couple islands are still in bad shape. It was nice the ship could be right in port. A plus was that we were one of the first ships of the season! None of the beaches were ever crowded. Never a need to be concerned about food whether in the dining rooms, pool area, room service etc. The staff whether housekeeping, maintenance, spa, kitchen, bar, servers, the captain and crew...all excellent! My Canadian companion was impressed that they had a special event to recognize and celebrate the Canadian Thanksgiving with an invite! Our departure went smoothly. Our cabin was a Deluxe Verandah - nicely laid out, great bathroom with heated floors (also useful for drying wet clothes!), modern and clean. The TV systems are state of the art, and extremely useful - an example being the replay of lectures, etc. shortly after they are done live. It would be nice if the system had real-time data on navigation items such as course / speed / wind etc. Be aware that drawer space is somewhat limited, even with the extra ones in the closet on Sun, but the beds are high enough that even large suitcases are easy to store there, and can be used as additional storage. Our only cabin knock was the proximity of the closet to the bed - somewhat awkward to get at. Larger cabins don't have either of these two issues. Dining was excellent - the quality of food was high, and there are multiple choices. The open faced sandwiches in Mamsen's are exceptional - except for the calories, you could live on them! World café is good, with limited crowding, and would be excellent when the weather permits dining outside on the stern deck. The Restaurant is fully open seating, but we never waited more than a few minutes, even at peak times. The serving systems in the Restaurant seem to have multiple "handoffs" between the staff, and occasionally resulted in a missed request, but they were speedily corrected. Of the two specialty restaurants, we loved Manfredi's (Italian) - be sure to reserve as early as you can, as it's very popular. The Chef's Table was good, not great - some excellent dishes, some mediocre. We largely relied on the included shore excursions, as they tended to do an overview tour, and allow personal exploration afterwards. The two optional tours we used were well organized. Service levels throughout the ship were outstanding - even on a short cruise, the staff quickly learned to recognize us, and were always eager to assist. While we missed the chance to get to know our dining stewards as well as we have previously in a fixed-seating environment, we were able to make a few connections over the trip. Being so new, the ship is pristine and very stable and quiet. Maintenance is discreet, and not intrusive. And, the internet service put every other cruise line that we've been on to shame - a real leg up for staying in touch. Bottom line - we've booked two more voyages! Read Less
