Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Viking Saturn

I went on this cruise with my mother who is 84 who decided that she needed help on it after she had booked herself a single ticket. Since I’m no spring chicken myself (50), I thought it would be a wonderful way to have some time with her as well as my two aunts and uncles. Embarkation went fine, however they did not check our vaccine records, which I thought was a little strange since they ...

After reading all the advertising from Viking Iwas getting, we decided to book that 14 day transatlantic cruise from San Jaun to Barcelona. Being aways for that long with 8 sea nights seemed wonderful. This was our 14th cruise, and first Viking. In the past we sailed on Azamara, Holland America, Celebrity and Royle Carribean. Here are my thoughts after being back a day... Embarkation - was ...

Rather Disappointing

This was our second Viking Ocean (first was in 2019) , but we have been on Seabourn , Azamara and Regent, so at 900 guests , we consider this a "larger" ship. The guests were 90 % Americans , with only 36 Brits. Whilst the ship is impeccable, not a spot of dirt or rust anywhere , we were less happy with a couple of areas that are important for us, and felt these had deteriorated since ...

Great ship, but missed ports and botched disembarkation ruined cruise

We chose this cruise to finally visit the African continent. When we booked, Casablanca and Dakar were scheduled ports. A couple of months before embarkation Dakar, Senegal was changed to Cape Verde. We were disappointed because Cape Verde is a very poor replacement port, but Casablanca was still on schedule. Viking booked us on Lufthansa from Chicago-Frankfurt-Barcelona. Warning-Lufthansa ...

Third time with Viking was not a charm.

This cruise was to replace a cruise last December when my friend got covid the 2nd day and we were put off the ship 2 days later in Chile for 7 days of quarantine in a seedy hotel and then flown home. No covid for us this time, but because some passengers tested positive we were not able to stop in Casablanca. Too many people did not wear masks in elevators and on busses. The food was a bit ...

Viking Ocean not up to Viking River's standards.

This was our first Viking Ocean cruise. If it were not for the many wonderful Viking River cruises we've taken, it would likely be our last Viking Ocean cruise. What we liked: The ship is beautiful and very well maintained. The crew is outstanding and service could not be better. It probably helped that we sailed with approximately 50% capacity. What was just OK: The food. ...

Late itinerary changes and bad weather marred enjoyment

Having travelled with Viking Ocean many times, they continue to be our preferred cruise line, having experienced good and bad elsewhere. This cruise was one where you just had to make the best of the situation. Viking were not in control of the ports that did not appear to want us, necessitating itinerary changes, nor totally in charge of the handling staff in port building, and definitely not in ...

Among the best of routes but not the best of cruises.

Viking Cruise Trans-Atlantic September 2019 Our cruises are always chosen for their itinerary, but after that, of course, the cruise line is a major consideration. We came across the “In the Wake of the Vikings” cruise with Viking Ocean Cruises, a line new to us, back in early 2018, but we were not free at the time, so we expressed an interest with Viking for the 2019 sailing, through our local ...

embarking was quick and easy. once we were on the ship at 3.30pm we were advised that the ship would be leaving that night instead of the original plan of the next evening due to weather which meant we missed the port of Bergen as it was too late to do anything that day. Big seas means we also missed Shetland Islands and Faroe Islands. instead we made for Iceland and had 2 make up ports of ...

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Zhao Shang Yi Dun (Viking Sun)

The nicest part of our cruise on the Viking Sun was the polite, friendly, and very clean attention of our room steward. The stateroom is a little small, but sufficient. The veranda was nice, but that squeaking veranda door - and the inability to leave it open for even short periods of time without banging shut - was frustrating; needless to say, we lost some sleep due to squeaks. Food on the ...
