We chose this Mediterranean cruise because it offered 11 ort stops counting Rome. Unfortunately we missed one, Marseille, due to stormy weather. We experienced amazingly good weather except for that one overnight. This new ship is totally awesome, and perfect in every way. Lots of comfortable area, indoors and out, to sit and relax. The cabin was perfectly laid out with plenty of closet space, a large bathroom with heated floor, large shower and lots of towels. Good lighting and a large vanity with excellent storage shelves and drawers. The bed was amazing with lovely, fresh linens. Had a great sleep every night. The sitting area was comfortable with two chairs, a coffee table and desk. The balcony had comfy furniture and was a good size. The food was excellent quality, delicious with a huge variety including a sushi bar. There were many excellent choices of seafood every day as well as meat and vegetables, and all cooked to perfection. Breakfast offered an egg station where you could order any type of eggs. Eggs Benedict was offered every day. We experienced tours that were inclusive and ones we purchased. Every tour was top notch with excellent guides. Two times we did experience poor buses with dirty windows and torn seats. This was the only negative on the whole vacation. Viking staff are the best...they are organized, polite, friendly and intuitive. They make every effort to get to know you and provide you with your every need. They are an amazing group of people and I cannot commend them enough. They are the best part if the cruise. We did the pre cruise stay in Rome which was lovely. The Grand Hotel Palace was situated perfectly, although thought it was rather expensive for the room type we had. Very basic room. No coffee maker and no coffee available in the lobby. Breakfast was poor. We were not given any suggestions when we inquired about excursions (from host) other than we could share a taxi with others. We did manage ok on our own with the hop on-off bus and did enjoy this part of our vacation. Just thought it was expensive for what we received when compared with other Viking pre and post stays purchased in the past. Read Less

We had been wanting to do a Mediterranean cruise and this Itinerary came available on short notice. (We don't like planning 18 months ahead to take a cruise) We have travelled before with Viking and knew the level of excellence to expect. The food choices were wonderful. Lots of seafood. Also several specialty eating places. We were in a port everyday which did not allow us to enjoy all the amenities on the ship. There were port excursions from free to several hundred dollars. Be sure to review all the excursion info and sign up before you get on the ship. The popular ones fill up fast. If the excursion you want is full, be sure to wait list it. There were so many choices it was hard to pick just one each day. Two days in Barcelona is not enough time to see all the major sites. In Malaga, Spain be sure to visit Nerja to see the "Balcony of Europe". Recommend extra days in Rome and Lisbon on each end of the cruise. So much to see in both cities. If you fly out of Lisbon allow yourself 3 hours to get through their airport system. As expected, Viking personnel provided excellent service. Everyone greeted you and no matter who you asked for assistance, they stopped what they were doing and helped you even if it was not in their area. Read Less

We've cruised on two Viking River Cruises and loved them. We wanted to experience one of Viking's Ocean Cruises. It was above and beyond what we expected! The first night, we worked closely with the Shore Excursion Team in order to make reservations to see Michelangelo's David in Florence. She bent over backwards to try to get us tickets. Thereafter, every time we saw her, she remembered us and called us by name. Very nice. Very professional. The food was incredible. Wait staff was incredible! LOVED the Italian Dining Room. On our next Viking Ocean Cruise, we'll make multiple reservations to go there!. Our Cabin Steward, Komang, was extraordinary. Very attentive to our every need. Very friendly and courteous. A couple of the shore excursions were just meh. The majority of them were outstanding! The Viking Travel Concierge was excellent. We talked to her on multiple occasions in order to make reservations on the Miami to Los Angeles (via the Panama Canal) Cruise. She was very helpful to us in making our reservation! YEA! We cannot wait to go on a Viking Ocean Cruise again! Read Less

Everything about this cruise was top notch. The itinerary and ports of call were cities/areas that we wanted to visit. Beginning in Rome and ending in Lisbon was fabulous....what could be better! The shore excursions were well planned and all of our guides were very knowledgeable, friendly, articulate and engaging. Our ship, the Viking Sun, was beautiful and meticulously cleaned and maintained and our cabin was perfect in size and amenities. Dining options were plentiful and the food was delicious. We especially enjoyed Manfredi's! The Chef's Table, The Restaurant and the buffet in the World café was excellent as well. Service on board was superb.....from our cabin stewards to wait staff all were very personable and made our voyage very enjoyable. The Viking Classical Trio, resident pianist Grego and resident guitarist Laszlo presented beautiful music in the atrium. Port talks were very informative and gave us insights into our next port of call. We will definitely book another ocean cruise with Viking. Read Less

This was our third cruise with Viking Ocean and it was on their newly launched Viking Sun. The cruise stopped at interesting ports and we hit a sale that worked for our budget. We have always experienced excellent and friendly service from the crews and their embarkation, disembarkation and shore excursion procedures are well managed and punctual. We used the "Roll Call" to connect with some fellow travellers a few months before the cruise and were able to set up some great private shore excursions and activities. Getting to meet some of our fellow cruisers at the Meet & Greet was great and made for good travel and dinner companions during the cruise. Viking includes in their price a lot of things that with other cruise lines show up as extra charges in your statement at the end of cruises. This avoids the shock that otherwise happens on the last days of a cruise. Read Less

The itinerary couldn't have been better. Our time in the Israel went beyond our expectations and truly were the experience of a lifetime. Our shore excursion guides were wonderful (we primarily did the extra cost excursions) and we felt we got a world history lesson that surpassed anything we were hoping for. The lectures on board were especially helpful - Viking is so on point when they advertise as "The Thinking Person's Cruise". The cruise was the perfect mix of luxury travel and a challenging learning experience. The service on board was just what you would except from a top rated cruise line. The food was excellent, entertainment was quite good and our cabin was surprisingly spacious. Viking handles all customs and processing at each port almost effortlessly. Couldn't have been happier with any portion of the experience. We have already booked 2 more cruises with Viking for next year. Read Less

Not a fan of large ship cruises. Have been on numerous river and small ship/yacht cruises and always enjoyed those. Viking does a good job on its river cruises so we decided to try their new medium size venue. We were very pleasantly surprised at almost all aspects of this experience. The ship is absolutely beautiful and extremely well conceived. There were many places where we could find quiet and solitude (when desired) . Never felt like we were burdened with masses of people or movements. With many restaurants and reservation opportunities we never felt we were in a "mess hall" situation. The general ship layout ,along with the elimination of gambling and other big cruise ship activities served to remove the somewhat rouckus nature of some of the passengers as experienced on large ship cruises. The on ship entertainment was also excellent, limited in viewer size, and well suited to the general ship attitude. The service staff was the best we have ever experienced in our many years of traveling. The only somewhat negative comment had to do with the off ship tours. Unlike small ship cruises where there may be one bus going to a shore site a mid size ship had 3 buses of passengers. These buses traveled together to all points of on shore sights and adventures. In almost every group there is always one who is ever on time and holds back the others. In one bus this may or may not be the case and is easily addressed. With 3 busses the odds go up of this happening and 100plus others are affected. Missing part of a tour is not fun because of basic inconsideration. I do not know the answer to this in large multi bus movement tours other than to let each bus operate as a single unit All said we will definitely travel with Viking on this medium ship venue again. We originally committed to the cruise to visit Ephesus and Istanbul, which were later canceled due to safety issues. We were happy, though, to have Israel as a main objective. The visits to Rome and Athens at either end of the cruise were quite short, so we were glad to have gone to Rome a week ahead of time to see the sights. We were disappointed in Jerusalem, mostly due to the attitude of the guide. We found that the crew made our embarkation and disembarkation go smoothly. The option to change or add tours on board was helpful, especially since the lectures introducing the cultures we were visiting informed us concerning what we wanted to focus on. The ship is beautiful! We were well pleased with the service, the cabin, and all the amenities. One drawback was the laundry. Everyone wanted to do their laundry when the ship was cruising. You had to get up early to get a machine! The food was good but did not have the cultural focus as much as we experienced on a river cruise. The themed dinners in the Chef's Table were excellent, however, and we were surprised that so few passengers took advantage of it. We did not expect to have the same kind of experience on the ocean cruise as the river cruise, of course. Meeting people was not as easy on the ocean cruise, though we made an enduring friendship with one other couple from the UK. Overall, we were pleased with the cruise and had experiences we would not have had otherwise. We particularly appreciated the lectures and enjoyed the chamber music and the evening entertainment. The Viking cruises do cost more than others, but it is worth it. This was our second Ocean cruise and third overall Viking cruise. As with the others the travel and embarkation was involved little stress and well organized. The cabins are nice and well laid out. Storage space can be a bit of an issue for two people, but it is easy to get additional hangers from room service. The food was excellent; there is a variety of menus that will accommodate most and food is available almost whenever you want it. The cruises are well structured so you can do as much or as little as you like. The included tours will give you a quick taste of the different ports and for an extra cost you can spend more time at some interesting destinations. Do be aware that the included tours are definitely whirlwind; if you want to spend time exploring either pay for the longer tour or arrange something your self. Do be sure to spend some time looking over the options and making plans before you go; many of the excursions fill up as soon as they are available. If you choose to stay on board there is plenty to do; there are live shows and movies. The fitness center and spa are excellent, they were my favorite hang outs when I was not on a tour. Read Less

Within minutes of our arrival, we were in our room and enjoying the ship. We had a wonderful two weeks - exploring the ports and enjoying a fantastic ship. They have a few little details to work on this new ship, but they are working hard to make it perfect. If you want to relax, this ship has everything you can imagine... cozy corners to read, drink coffee or read. the spa is HUGE, and they have a steam room, saunas, ice room, hot tubs, ice bath - you name it. The exercise equipment was top notch! Cabins are nice, and the in cabin refrigerator is filled with complimentary snacks and beverages any time you want. The staff are all attentive to every need. The food was very good, and the wine was flowing freely... The two specialty restaurants were fun and the menu had something for everyone. My favorite meal was the steak at Manfredis - but I enjoyed every meal. Their chilli-dogs at the pool were to die for! The entertainment was not as elaborate as some ships, but it was good. The cooking classes were fun and the chef who taught us a great teacher. The itinerary was awesome and the free tours fine. The upgraded tours were well worth every penny. We even did an overnight in Jerusalem... that was special. Watch out - after seeing the numbers of past cruisers on this ship, this cruise line is certainly on the way up! Read Less

I have cruised several times on the big, now bigger, liners and I always came away feeling left a little short. I saw the Viking Star in Stockholm harbor last summer and thought wow... a ship docking so close to the city. I chose this cruise because of the itinerary ( a real Trifecta: Rome, Israel and Greece) and the experience a smaller ship. Little did I know what lay ahead. A sense of peace and tranquility from the first step on board. I booked airfare through Viking. An excellent price which included transfers. Absolutely no hassles with plenty of Viking staff available to assist. My only regret was the return trip to the States on British Airways which has to be the worst airline operating today. Embarkation and disembarkation so smooth and I was onboard within minutes. Staterooms are available depending on class booked which was DV1, so my traveling partner and I enjoyed a beautiful meal and a tour of the ship. The Viking Ocean Cruiseships as I am told are essentially all alike in design. Absolutely beautiful. The attention to the plan and detail is outstanding. There are wonderful nooks and crannies on this ship at every turn. Small corners for privacy and larger areas for gatherings and never crowded by my standards...after all there are about 930 passengers on the Sky. The staff seemed to make a special effort to remember our names, but then again, I always called them by name. They are well trained and really seem to care; nothing seems impossible to them. Beautiful Spa with no upcharges except for specific personal services, gorgeous pool area, high tea served at 4:00 p.m. daily, included shore excursions, WiFi and so much more. Dining was the highlight of our day. The main dining room, (The Restaurant) unlike the big liners, was relaxed, elegant with amazing menu selections. I would classify it as "Anytime Dining" with never a wait. We purchased a Premium Beverage upgrade which if you enjoy nice wines and cocktails is a plus. Viking does include wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, however, at say The Chef's Table (a five course tasting menu with selected wines), a charge of $25.00 is made without the Premium package. If you like smaller meals The Chef's Table is fun and the themed menu changes every three days. We enjoyed Manfredi's (Italian). Beware that portions in The Restaurant and Manfredis are sometimes large. The World Cafe buffet is beautiful. One day we even watched our pasta and sauces being made from scratch. No need to stuff yourself on this ship as quality is the word and quantity never disappoints. One disappointment with the evening dining scene was that few people dressed for dinner. Viking describes appropriate dress as the equivalent of "smart casual". Can't you just change your all day excursion dress outfit? For some passengers, apparently that answer on Viking is "no". I could go on and on but others are critiquing as well. If your are tired of art auctions, constant marketing from the gift shops, endless photographers, casinos, long elevator lines, being nickle-dimed at every turn and multitudes of passengers, try Viking Ocean Cruise. Value is a excellent. Complimentary Wifi alone saved me several hundreds of dollars from my big ship experience last summer. Comparing prices, ok, however, this is a once in a lifetime experience. You deserve the best! Why would you sail with 2700- 5000 other passengers? Bigger is definitely not better! Read Less

We had the pleasure of taking a Viking river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest and Viking did a fabulous job so we rebooked this trip and we weren't disappointed. Cooler weather in March reduced our suntanning but the excursions were much more enjoyable as it was very comfortable. Guides and crew were outstanding. One of us had a dairy allergy and we were given extra special dietary care from the concierge with fabulous food with a great selection every day. The ship is beautiful with a fantastic spa and with plenty to do we did not miss having a casino. The infinity pool at the stern was great and we never stood in line for anything including lounge chairs. Viking did everything right. The excursions were well organized with audio connected with the guides which gave us more freedom to walk at our own leisure. Thank you for a great trip. We will be booking with Viking again. We chose the cruise based on the Holy Land 3 day itinerary, and wanted to experience the new Viking Sky. The ship is beautifully designed, and seems only half-full because there was always room on the deck, pool and other areas. You could always get a seat at the bar, or find a quiet place to relax, read etc if you wanted to. We spent a lot of time in the Explorer's Lounge at the bar in the bow. Staterooms very comfortable and well designed, bathroom and shower very good size, The pre-excursion informational lectures were excellent and entertaining, and most of the tour guides were very good also. Staff friendly, helpful and excellent as you'd expect. Main dining room menu, food and decor were all excellent, so no need to eat in the two specialty restaurants although we did. Manfredi's was very good, but the Chef's Table had a single, fixed menu each day -- seemed very limiting and odd, but..... Viking lived up to its reputation for Scandinavian design and a high-end cruising experience. Would recommend Viking without hesitation and would certainly try to book Viking again. Read Less

Very knowledgeable tour guides on our excursions made for a great visit to Jerusalem, Nazareth and Galilee. We were the only New Zealanders on the cruise along with a handful of Australians and British. Most of the others were made up of American and Canadian. We had a great time at meals and on excursions getting to know our fellow cruisers. Everything is included, meals, wine, beer and soft drinks at mealtimes. One excursion is included at every port. This is our third Viking Ocean cruise. The product continues to impress us in all respects. The crew service and attitude aboard the Sky was ALWAYS outstanding. The food is equally impressive at all food venues. We have booked 2 more cruises. The outstanding service begins with great leadership in each of the ship departments. Karl Echl was always present with guidance and support. Guest Services in the Explorers Lounge was always ready to go the distance for customers' requests, and then provided great follow up. JoJo provided the leadership and guidance to make this team stand out. Food and the service in all the food venues was also great. There was always a great variety that was presented and served professionally. The specialty restaurants were a great opportunity for a special meal in a quiet environment. Again, the service was notable for timely attention while not being rushed to turn the table. Igor's leadership at Manfredis was memorable. This was our first Viking Ocean Cruise and it won't be our last. The food and service were great and we got to see a part of the world that was on our bucket list. We especially enjoyed getting to know a few of the staff members who really worked hard to make our time traveling perfect. A few things to know which would have helped us out would be to sign up in passenger services at the beginning of the cruise for the two shows that are staged by in the smaller venue and also sign up for the kitchen ad bridge tours at the same time. By the tie those shows and tours are advertised they were almost full. We didn't get in to the shows but were able to get the last few tickets for the bridge and galley tours. The included tours at each port were informative and well organized. If a local guide refuses to use the speaker system be sure to try to get them to change their mind. In any case, let Viking know about the guide. We enjoyed our time on board the Viking Sky and 80% of our tours were excellent. Read Less

We started off the cruise with two additional days in Rome. The hotel was situated in the diplomatic area of Rome and a convenient walk to many attractions. We embarked on Viking Sky and settled into our Penthouse Veranda stateroom which was very spacious. Our cabin steward made us right at home and briefed us on everything we needed to know. He took great care of us for the entire cruise. The ship is just the right size with plenty of amenities but not so big that you feel like a number. Dining in the main dining room and in the World Café was always excellent and our favorite specialty restaurant was Manfredis. The itinerary included Rome, Naples & Pompeii, Heraklion Crete, Israel including Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the Dead Sea, The River Jorden, Nazareth, and Haifa, Limassol Crete, Rhodes Greece, Mykonos Greece, and Athens. With a few exceptions we selected upgraded shore excursions and were never disappointed. Our favorite was the two day Grand Overland tour in Israel. Our Israeli guide was fantastic and he provided us with a very balanced view of his country. The enrichment lectures were excellent as was the evening entertainment. The service was superb and it did not take much time for our wait staff to recognize us and remember our drink preferences. This is the second week of a 2 week cruise. We didn't realize until we got onboard there were 2 back to back cruises. One from Barcelona to Rome, and Rome to Barcelona. We did both. I already have a review of the first leg. I thought the stop in Sardinia was a waste. We spent all night getting there and then only had 4 hours on the island. Not much to see there. I liked Tunis the best. We were greeted by a small band with camels and a belly dancer. Our tour was 100% supervised (for safety). We went to the down town, saw a protest about city politics, went thru the market area and then stopped at Carthage ruins. I also liked the shop in Algiers. You had to be with a guide there as well. The only stop was a huge monument and the rest was a bus trip around the city. Only 2 hrs. But worth it. It was a beautiful warm sunny day and we spent the afternoon in the pool area and in the back around the infinity pool. This is not a cruise for children or a "party boat." This is for more discerning people who want to see history and unusual ports of call. Read Less

The Viking Sea is a beautiful new ship. Sailed on the Secrets of the Southern Mediterranean the end of Feb. We had the least expensive class of cabin, and it was fine. We had read reviews that said there were only 3 drawers, but your steward will bring you all the hangers you want--good hanging space. The drawers in the bathroom were great, and plenty of little shelf space to put everyday toiletries. Veranda was nice and not cramped. We were on the starboard side (righthand side?) and it was the side to be on --sunset side! Ship was quiet, and we kept thinking it couldn't be sold out, but it was! Food was mostly very good, but the service at breakfast in the World Cafe was mostly non existant. That said, Viking needs to work on communication and coordination between stateside offices and shipboard offices. We were never told that we were not allowed to leave the ship in Algeria, shore excursions were cancelled without informing us, dinner reservations at the specialty restaurants were totally screwed up, and there were several other snafus that just marred an otherwise enjoyable trip. Another main complaint is that our grade of cabin was the last to be able to reserve shore excursions, and most were booked up by our time to reserve. If this is their policy, they need to make sure there are enough excursion spots for all!! And no "remedial" bottle of champagne, promise of a credit, nor even call from HQ now that we are home! We wanted to see Algeria and Tunisia, which few ships visit. We have had many good experiences on Viking river cruises so we wanted to try the ocean ship. Good points: beautiful ship, comfortable cabins, good food, good service. Our cabin was larger than standard for the category. I really appreciated the frequency with which veal appeared on the menus. Liked the chance to see new ports. Not so good points: The specialty restaurants were not so special, serving cold food on two occasions and the wrong order on one. The free excursions were overbooked and since the higher category cabins choose first some people in lower category cabins couldn't get on them. It didn't affect us directly, but it did sour the mood on board. The dates published on the internet and email notifications for making dining reservations and shore excursion reservations were inaccurate; our friends did not receive any notifications. Hopefully they have fixed these problems. We were upgraded, which was very nice, but were not notified (even when we boarded). So when we reached our assigned cabin someone else's luggage was there...Another communication problem. I miss having newspapers, crossword puzzles, etc. When I asked about news the customer service desk simply told me to use the computer. We will cruise with Viking Ocean again, and in fact have one booked. But I hope some of the problems are smoothed out. Read Less

We chose this cruise for two reasons. The first motivation was the list of destinations which were unusual (eg Tunis, Algiers). The second motivation was to taste the Viking "ocean", experience, particularly as they have received such great reviews in their first two years at sea. As frequent ocean cruisers we could see some obvious upgrades in the VIking experience - the ship is brand new and beautifully appointed. The service and onboard experience was quite good. We never felt crowded, never had to hunt a place to sit and enjoy the environment, and never were bothered by a pesky photographer - as there is none! That said, as much attention as there is to the "ship experience", there was less attention to the "shore experience", with tours being very typical of any cruise line offering. I had hoped for smaller groups and a little less chaos from the big bus offerings. All in all, a great trip and worth considering, especially for anyone interested in the unique destinations offered. This was my first cruise. I chose it primarily because it stopped at cities I wanted to see, but the ship itself and the crew made it extra memorable. My husband and I are 55-65 and in decent health/mobility but not active athletes. I had been to Barcelona in 1968 and wanted to see it again, so we booked a few extra days to explore. Our hotel was near the Ramblas and the Ciudad Market which were fun to visit on our own. Viking staff were on hand to gather up our bags and walk us through our boarding process. It was seamless. I cannot believe the wasn't a glitch in this vacation anywhere! There was not. I was especially impressed that the crew remembered my name on the first day; this skill is extremely difficult for me! I asked my room steward where I could get ice (I'm used to staying in hotels where there's an ice machine, self service) and he brought ice every single day after that. My husband Tim and I opted for the Silver Service, since we are wine lovers, and had a very lively and fun relationship with the wine steward in the dining room. See? I cannot remember her name! (I'm a stroke survivor). Dining was wonderful! Small portions were great! to make up for the all you can eat breakfast where I enjoyed the chocolate croissants. We were only on the ship for lunch a few times since we took advantage of shore excursions whenever we could. My husband and I were amazed/charmed/intrigued by the shore excursions. We didn't always take the same one. I especially liked Algiers since I had been there in 1968 s a teen. The casbah was fascinating and we were amused by the police escort and the locals who clapped and cheered for our bus. Our guide was articulate and well educated in history and culture. The port of Tunisia was fun with the camels and falconry guys at the port. We had an issue with a tour in Barcelona. When I told Guest Services about it, our fees were refunded. I was impressed that in almost every city there were Roman ruins, sometimes mixed right in with modern buildings. Entertainment on board was low-key which was fine. Travel in winter did not allow for use of the pool. Our cabin was extremely comfy. Bed better than ours at home. Lots of plugs for computers, charging phones, and our CPAP machines. Warm floor in the bathroom was nice! The veranda might get more use in the summer. We spent most of our after-dinner time in one of the many lounges listening to lectures or music. I had never been anywhere in Africa, and this cruise visited Tunis (the medina and a Roman aqueduct ruin) and Algiers (the botanical garden, the basilica, and the martyrs' monument), plus Valletta, Cagliari, Valencia, and a breathtaking view of Volcano Stromboli. Superbly co-ordinated transfers from Rome airport to ship and ship to Barcelona airport. Wonderful food. Excellent, informative lectures, on geology of Mediterranean and World War II in North Africa. Five computers with fast internet access. Beautiful ship with lovely artwork throughout. Tours ran on time and guides were excellent, and fluent in English. Heated towel rack and bathroom floor. On one tour, I left jacket in tour bus -- the guide found it and returned to ship lost-and-found where I claimed it. Spacious stateroom with bed fit for a king. Expert classical-music trio (violin, violoncello, and flute). Gracious, attentive, high-class service throughout, from EVERYONE. I had trouble (fault of the airline); could not print boarding pass last evening of cruise -- the guest service agent was helpful and comforting -- and (GASP!) -- he telephoned the airline and enabled me to talk with a REAL HUMAN BEING about the problem!! This was my spouse and my second cruise aboard the Viking Sea in four months. We had such a wonderful time on the first cruise, we couldn't resist the promotion to take another. The Viking Sea is like a luxurious boutique hotel on the ocean. The ship's common areas are numerous and unmatched by any I've seen. The staterooms are nicely appointed and comfortable, with heated floors in the spacious bathrooms. Customer service aboard the ship is incredible. And one of the advantages of sailing the same ship is you get to sail with many of the same crew and staff, with which you have already developed a relationship. It was somewhat of a comfortable reunion. The itinerary of this particular cruise included stops in Valletta, Malta, Tunis, Tunisia, and Algiers, Algeria....exotic places I never thought I would visit. These ports of calls/excursions were very exciting and culturally enriching. Other stops included Cagliari, Italy, Valencia, Spain, with disembarkation in Barcelona. Although the Viking Sea is considered a small ship, accommodating a little over 900 guests, the number of quality entertainment options and activities are astounding. Absolutely lovely cruise! We chose a February cruise so we wouldn't have to deal with a mass of tourists. Luckily for us, the weather was picture perfect each day with blue skies and mild temps. Unfortunately during our pre-cruise days in Rome my passport and all money, credit cards, medical cards was stolen. I called Viking and they were so helpful in allowing me on the ship, arranging with the US Embassy in Malta a temporary passport and just all around being kind, caring and sympathetic. I couldn't have asked for better treatment! On with the trip...ship was beautiful, super spotless, our cabin was large enough for two women with lots of clothing! Athough there were 900 people onboard, we really hardly saw anyone except in the dining rooms where the food was delicious and corresponded to our ports of call. We took full advantage of the spa, although the Snow Cave was out of order. Drats. We played trivia every day and danced in the lounge at night. There were plenty more activities and lectures which we did not attend in favor of relaxing while watching the world go by. The live entertainment was wonderful as much of the staff had played Broadway. Plus we took in a movie at the impressive theater. The service was excellent and the crew seemed to be having a wonderful time along with us. The excursions were led by informative guides so we got to see and know as much about the place as possible in one day or half a day. This is my third Viking cruise and I wouldn't travel with anyone else! I used to be a solo traveler but there comes a point when it easier to have someone else do everything and Viking does it well.
