We celebrated our 45th and wanted the best for this event. Great cabin and fabulous cabin stewards. The entertainers were awesome, especially Matthew. Bartenders were total service and personable, especially Carlos and CJay. Interesting excursions and we had a wonderful time in each port. The food!!! Oh my, we didn't have anything that wasn't fantastic. My husband was especially happy about the Alaskan King crab legs, we went for those, then went for a drink At the Explorer's Lounge for drinks, then to dinner. Our favorite dinner was the Chef's table Mexican night. Loved Ivan for wine and Mario for service! The spa was wonderful and we ended up getting massages which is just what we needed after all the excursions. Excellent masseuses! Cruise director, she was amazing. "See you around the ship." OK this site wants me to type more so here it goes. My lovely wife of 32 years were considering the world cruise and she said Whoa! Our first experience on an ocean cruise was a tiny ship in Alaska I think it held 60 people. That was an amazing experience and our son was 10 then. Our second was Carnival Cruise the Mexican riviera and it was horrible even with the suite we hated every moment from embarkation to debarkation. We did that cruise for our teenage son to socialize all he did was read LOL. We have done 4 AMAWaterways trips and loved them but those were river cruises. So When it was announced Viking was doing a world cruise the same day I booked ES1 cabin 4000 put a deposit down and happily called my life partner and she said WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY! She pointed out the horrible Carnival Cruise experience and said what the ^%$& are you thinking. I promptly called the best travel agent and she was yea its a long trip but its the best ocean cruise not a Carnival cruise at all. She suggested a 14 day and I went for the 21 and suite 4000. With that said here we go. First the transfer to the hotel (four nite pre cruise) was flawless and tours amazing in a wonderful hotel. Our guide was awesome picture My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Embarkation was smooth as silk. The room; well lets just say like home. Our steward Mohamed and his team made us feel like we were at home and we wanted for nothing. Never waited in a line and never for want of a pool chair or towel or a drink. Our mornings were greeted by Gregory the Viking bartender, he also woks in the Restaurant, Alway a pleasant smile and makes the best coffee on the ship in fact the best I ever had. He always put Mr Dan and Mrs Lisa on the lids with smiley faces. The food was incredible Ellard and Glen always made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurants. The Kitchen table experience was our favorite shopping with the Chefs in Monaco was Perfect. All tours were amazing and frankly to many to thank we cant think of much to change. What we did not like: The internet is horrible I can fly at 40,000 feet at 680 MPH and get better internet. The TV channels are lacking but movie selection was great. And on departure they had a lousy exchange rate to pay your bill in EUROS and a 3% fee. Were in Europe for gods sake be fair and convenient. Kind of a sucker punch at the end of the cruise. I just put it on my card and got a way better exchange rate and no fees from bank of america. We booked two more ocean voyages with Viking and were looking at that world cruise! :) Read Less

We Arrived in Athens, we did the extension. I think it would be good to be more informative about the options on tours during the extensions. We had no idea that any tours could be booked there, so we did research and booked our own before arriving. As it turned out we did end up booking another tour with Viking that was guided, to the Acropolis. And thank goodness I had booked a "Private tour" for the same thing the next day, that wasn't guided, but since it was Private, we asked to be taken to different things. The lack of information might have been because we went through a tour company and they didn't know. But again, I think it should be a priority for that information to be given out, it would have been nice to have that option. Embarkation was a delight; we have been on two others cruise and it was so long. We ended our cruise in Rome, it was epic. We saw so many wonderful things. The ship was wonderful very beautiful and Clean. Same with our room and our Steward was the best guy, efficient and fast and so nice. The 24-hour room service was awesome only used it once, but the food was great and hot, just as good if prepared right in front of you. The restaurants were so great, wonderful food, all of them. We were very impressed by the quality of the food, and that it was truly all included. On our other cruises the Restaurant's that you had to make reservations for, the optional ones, were more money. The entertainment not so sure about, as we were so tired from our excursions we just wanted to sauna, hot tub, and snow grotto which we did every day and it was wonderful! we did go to one concert and it was nice. The violin players were very nice also. The excursions wow, they were wonderful. I love History and every port there were the best things to do. The only problem was I wanted to do them all. We did do 5 tours that were the included tours and surprisingly they were very good. I figured they would not be so nice, as the ones you had to pay extra for, but they were just as nice. The places we went and saw and learned about, is indescribable almost. We walked where Apostle Paul waked, we saw history frozen in Pompeii, The Acropolis, The Roman Coliseum, and everything in between. We are still in Awe and feel so fortunate to have been able to do and see the things we did. One thing I would recommend is water on the busses. Everywhere we went it was so, so hot. To have a cooler full of water available during the excursions would have been wonderful. We ended up after a few days learning and grabbing two bottles on our way off the ship. However, that was long gone after about two hours. The service was very, very good we felt pampered the whole time. I had to watch myself sometimes because if I joked about oh, I would like this, or that, or something, the next thing I knew it would be in our room or handed to me. I asked for bottled water once at the bar to bring back to my room and after about 5 minutes I was handed two bottles of water. Then he apologized that it took so long. Stating "sorry it took so long I had to run down five decks to get it we don't stock that here", did I mention the service was outstanding. This cruise was we thought A "once in a lifetime cruise" to celebrate our anniversary, 31 years. However, we are already talking about where we have to go next on Viking. Viking has brought our Cruising expectations to a new level. Also, fun fact there is a little museum area that was on our ship telling about Eric the Red a very popular Viking in history, I happen to be related to him. My grandfather has traced our lineage back to him. So, I Told my husband Maybe Viking would give me a discount rate because of this.... My Uncle Eric....again History, History everywhere! We highly recommend Viking! Read Less

I wanted to revisit Greece and the Adriatic (Dalmation) coast, The food was consistently excellent in the buffet ( World Cafe) as well as Manfredi's and Chef's Table restaurants. We had absolutely no problems scheduling the special restaurants, even after boarding the ship (although I recommend that you do so as soon as possible after boarding). The drinks were well prepared by professional bar tending staff. We made use of the land excursions wherever possible, and the tour guides in each locale were courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. The positive aspect of this trip were the ability to learn as well as to enjoy the locales, like Corfu, Montenegro, Dubrovnik and Venice without rushing (although each daily agenda was filled without much dead time). We loved the fact that our ship was not too large or overpopulated (only about 978 passengers max). Ever stop from embarkation to disembarkation was perfectly handled by Viking from a logistical standpoint (in other words, there is no way for a person of average intelligence to get lost unless you are one of those arrogant, entitled people who think you can do do things on your own time frame while inconveniencing other passengers...unfortunately, we met a couple of those on our last night of the cruise. Nonetheless, Viking did a fantastic job and we can't wait to go back. Read Less

I heard very good things about biking and wanted a cruise ship that did not have children. Our cruise to Alaska surpassed anything that we envisioned. The staff was incredible, very attentive to needs. It was one of the best vacations we have ever been on. The food was amazing, everyone in the staff was fabulous, and if the staff had allowed us to win The bean bag toss, it would have been perfect.lol! We were celebrating our anniversary, and it was made it into a very special occasion. The entertainment had very talented people, However what I liked most was lectures that they provided. There was a resident astronomer and a resident historian ho gave lectures that were incredibly interesting. We even got to look at the stars and planets through the Telescope that was on board. The singers in the lounge were absolutely incredible. Excursions were handled very well , and they were all well-planned and well-executed. We are planning on many more Viking Cruises. The Viking Cruise Line is highly recommended. Read Less

We had taken Viking River cruises and decided to try the Viking Ocean. It did not disappoint. The ship is beautifully appointed and the staterooms are nicely done. Our stateroom was small but included everything we needed. The staff is very responsive and attentive. The entertainment includes singing and dancing and lectures by knowledgeable scholars. The food was excellent and includes two specialty restaurants that are not additionally priced and only need reservations. Wine and beer are included with lunch and dinner. You can also eat outside overlooking amazing scenery. There are two pools and two hot tubs. There is a gym and a spa center where you can go to use the steam or sauna as well as get treatments. The concierge desk was never crowded and had at least two people working at all times. For the most part our included excursions were good. There were a couple of itineraries that could use tweaking. The additional excursions (paid extra for) were very good. Read Less

My wife and I had done a dozen or more ocean cruises and 2 Viking River cruises, but we'd not yet done a Viking Ocean cruise. We'd seen how they'd received Travel & Leisure magazines top ocean cruise line all four years they'd been in existence, so we thought we should give it a try. The ship was just right. Not huge like many we'd been on, but with all the amenities we cared about. Nice dining rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, showroom, bars & lounges, a gym and thermal spa, and countless places to sit and hang out. The food and drink in all of the eating areas (World Cafe, Restaurant, Manfredi's, & Chef's Table) were excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive. We had a Deluxe Veranda cabin and it was exceptionally spacious compared to what we're accustomed to. The entertainment staff were very talented and versatile. We made it a point to make every evening's show and were never disappointed. The included excursions were overall great and the extra excursions we chose were wonderful. The ports and surrounding areas we visited were tremendous. Every country on this trip (England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Norway, Scotland, and Wales) was special in its own way. The Viking extension option we chose in Bergen had us in a hotel that was right in the heart of the 'happening' part of Bergen (Bryggen). Trip of a lifetime! Read Less

We chose Into the Midnight Sun on the Viking Star because the itinerary was appealing and we find cruising with Viking to be enjoyable. Viking is attractive because their associates are friendly, engaging, sincerely concerned for our welfare and pay close attention to making certain that all details are covered. The itinerary included a pre-cruise option to visit Reykjavik, Iceland. We enjoyed visiting the Blue Lagoon; the national park and its fabulous waterfall; and the city of Reykjavik. Our cruise started in Bergen, Norway and continued on the inside passage past the Arctic Circle to Norway's northernmost point, the North Cape. On the way we visited breathtaking scenic fjords and small villages. The landscape photo opportunities were endless from daybreak to sleep time as there was no darkness. On our way to London, we had relaxing days at sea prior to reaching Scotland's Orkney and Shetland islands where we visited Viking settlements that dated back 5000 years. The final leg of our voyage was exceptional as our large ship navigated the Thames River from the English Channel to Greenwich, London. Read Less

Viking staff on board as well as tour guides and Viking hotel staff especially Emma, in Athens truly professional, courteous, friendly and always helpful.....and do go the extra mile to please everyone! Tour guides were very informative at each visit. Our tour guide Eva in Athens was particularly exceptional. She was knowledgeable and extremely passionate about the prehistoric and historical events leading up to Greece of today Our 6th Viking experience but first on a ship. Different yes but service just as outstanding as onboard a river boat. We really appreciated the effort to keep everything as sanitized as possible with wash stations upon entering eateries and hand sanitizers throughout the ship. Dining options were exciting and enjoyable Manfredi's was a delight, the Restaurant our favorite and the Chef's table a pleasant experience too! We also enjoyed the seafood by the pool! Overall a great trip and we look forward to another. Thanks Viking. Read Less

My wife and I are in our late 60's and still quite active and like to travel with friends. This will be our second Ocean cruise and we have done two other Viking River Cruises. I like the cruise idea since you pack and unpack only once and you travel at night to a new port. On this cruise we were able to see the diversity in the different countries in the British Isles and go to many places where we would probably not go to, all of which were interesting to us. Usually I would have extended the trip on the front end in London, because it is such an amazing city, but we had been there for a week at Christmas with our daughter and had seen a lot of the sights. We did fly in early Sunday and had a full day, although a bit tired to explore the city. We are pretty good getting around ourselves and booked the inside Buckingham Palace and garden tour at 12:15. We LOVED getting to see inside the Palace and the grounds. Definitely try to do that if you go. I will now try to summarize the different parts of the cruise. The Jupiter was stunning. It was just like our first boat with probably very minor tweeks for improvement that we would not even notice. There was a great diversity of places to be on the boat and be a quiet or active as you want. The boat was big, but not too big. It never seemed crowded to me. The Spa area was very well done with a nice changing areaa and indoor pool with a very cool Nordic experience cold room onboard. Their was also a pool in a large atrium area that have plenty of seats near the windows on the outside. Finally there was a great small infinity pool and hot tub on the aft on level 7. Our room was a deluxe veranda which was fine for us. The bed was very comfortable and a king size bed. I am 6'4" and slept well. The bathroom was a good size but crowded for 2 people. We loved our veranda but honestly did not use it much. The Crew----We found the crew on the Jupiter excellent and very hardworking. From the General Manager to all areas of operation- we thought the crew was outstanding. We were able to interact with many crew members and the one theme that came out was that they loved Viking better than others they had been on. The crew was very happy. We have been to nice resorts like Sea Island and found the level of service on par with that experience. Food-We found the food very good to excellent . I thought the best food was at Manfredis (the Italian option) but that is also my favorite food. When you get your first opportunity go ahead and book reservations at either this restaurant or the Chef's Table, both of which was good. The Dining Room option was great also and usually had a wide variety of meal options. Since we ate at different areas in the dining room, we did not have the same server every night. We usually ate at the buffet for breakfast which had GREAT fresh fruit, about any breakfast option you could imagine, and omelet stations. Bottom line-The food ranges from good to excellent. You will not go hungry. Oh, I almost forgot, Mamsen's was a grill option on level 7 toward the pool area. They have great grill options and salads which were delicious. Entertainment-We found this area to be good to excellent. The four young singers were quite good and gave a variety of performances whcih we loved. There were also several times when local talent was brought in which was fun. The band on the ship was EXCELLENT and were the male and female vocalists. They performed both in the theater as back up to the singers and by themselves in Torshavn, a small lounge . We found the music excellent, but do not expect a carnival type atmosphere on this boat. Speakers- The speakers were good not great, but still very imformative. We have had better speakers on other boats, but thought they were good and discussed some tough topics like BREXIT and the Ireland-Northern Island issue. Cruise Director-Heather. I saved the best for last. WE have been on 5 other cruises and Heather was the best BY FAR cruise director we have ever experienced. She was a great speaker, funny, on topic and talented. In a previous life she was an opera singer and had to put together a show at the last minute (5 PM for a 9:00 pm show) due to a sore throat of one of the singers. Her performance was outstanding!!! But, I loved just her daily talks and her general interaction. She had the ability to make mundane things interesting. Excursions--We found the excursions to be good and gave a lot of options. Since we booked this trip very late-in June, we could not sign early, but found that most of tours opened uo that we wanted. The only negative is getting on and off buses and is a process which they handled quite well. I would give the tour leaders high marks in each area!! We usually did the included tour and then did things on our own at the other parts of the day. I did talk to other that did some of the options and they all seemed to like them. One tip is when you are in Invergorton and you play golf, there is a Top Ten golf course in the WORLD about 30 minutes away called Royal Dornoch. You can book you own times and but you will need a morning time, as you must be back on the boat by 4:30. I did this on my own and rented a car from Ken's for the day. Amazing course -it is my favorite course ever and I have played all the Open courses. Finally, on the Bergen stop I booked the Norway in a Nutshell trip. It is a series of trains, buses and ships which shows you fiords and beautiful country. It is about 10 hours but well worth it. There is no hand holding or person, just tickets but it works quite well if you can get around and feel comfortable travelling on your own. We loved the trip and I guess the only negative was trying to book a future trip. We met with the future trip person and just did not enjoy the experience. I liked the option, just not the experience and we chose not to book. In summary, Viking ships, crew and experiences are great!!! we plan to come back in the future. One final note- if both you and your wife drink, the drink option is a good deal for part of your trip. We did not do it, but some of our friends did and loved it. Also, since we were travelling just with us, it allowed us to meet some amazing new friends we hope to see in the future! Read Less

Always wanted to do an Alaska cruise. As this year was our 50TH wedding anniversary we chose to celebrate by going to Alaska with Viking. We were not disappointed. Overall I would rate the cruise as excellent. Up to Viking standards, we had gone on a Viking River cruise in 2014 and had a great time. Couple of things - the excursion included for the Rocky Narrows Point was a bit thin, the native dancers were great. The dinner island cruise was a disappointment, we were promised a gourmet feast, the food was OK but not gourmet and we had to ear at 4pm. Consider changing this to a lunch cruise. The extended stay in Anchorage at the Hilton was not up to Viking or Hilton standards, the hotel was old and tired and the hallways were dirty. When it was time to get off the ship we were told we had to have our bags out the night before. This was a major inconvenience -- put this in the information kit that we get before we leave for the cruise as it was a surprise. But overall we had a great time and Viking did a great jog, food was great, staff were excellent, lots of good memories. Read Less

We Carefully Choose viking Orion for our Alaska cruise when first available in 2016 because of ships open vista views and as a small ship also very importantly the itinerary and full package details . As our first Viking voyage we have been very satisfied and loved the ship it’s ambience decor space and lovely staff. With the amazing Alaskan scenery and fantastic wildlife and wilderness al around us we had one of our best ever holidays thank you viking, We started with a pre cruise in Vancouver lovely city, wonderful hotel by the bay , the pre cruise tour and lunch alfresco after boarding and sail out was lovely with seaplanes landing and taking off around us , and boats of all descriptions paddle steamers , sailing and small pleasure cruising craft to other ships then the cruise up the inside passage humpbacks sighting wonderful scenery sunsets and all enhanced by the ship! Really very good food right through the voyage onboard Orion majority of our meals we ate seafood,. Enjoyed all of the restaurants onboard, open seating only waited the once for a table but seated in restaurant reception with offers of drinks! There’s also a bar in the restaurant where you can have a pre dinner drinks . We enjoyed all our ports of calls and trips with only one complaint about the lunch on our Haines bear search and wildlife tour which was dealt with with a small refund to compensate however no bears seen but then that’s wildlife although we were probably not going to see any as Haines had hosted the state fair a few days earlier, trip highlights amazing Juneau glacier helicopter and dogsledding and glacier and whales trips , Valdez sail out amazing beautiful weather swimming in the infinity pool and hot tub and escorted out by high speed coast guard rigid inflatable with machine gun mounted and manned past all the Valdez salmon fishing fleets which were laying nets ! A James Bond moment! Dinner that evening a favourite with to start soft shell crab , lobster Thermidor and desert a lovely soufflé , with lovely wines and all made exceptional by Alaska delivering with beautiful scenery and Orca’s seen alongside during dinner !!! A Most memorable evening I must also thank the staff on Orion Nearly all were fantastic except for the future cruise lady? The shows on board such a small ship were all delivered by the Orion team and were excellent thank you to Jade And Karine and speedy and the viking band also bar waiters stewards Ivan and Corrinia ? Overall a fantastic holiday experience one of our very best highly recommend this voyage and ship if viking can keep price correct Read Less

The special restaurants were wonderful and we dined there more than once without a fee each time! The staff was very friendly and made a point to learn our names. The food was much better than the other 3 cruise lines we’ve been on. MUCH Having free on demand television with current movies and some of our favorite television programs like NCIS (all 3) was also a nice touch! They gave us a shore excursion at every port, it is nice to have but some were less than exciting and you still pay for anything decent. I was afraid I’d miss the entertainment as we have done many Disney cruises but we found plenty to do and the entertainment that was provided was excellent, we especially enjoyed the classical musicians. We also appreciated the very helpful assistance from Viking employees who met us at the Copenhagen Airport when we arrived after our long overseas flight. The meals were delicious. The nightly entertainment was top-notch. We enjoyed each of the daily tours in Denmark, Germany, Sweden, and Norway. All of the tours were expertly managed. We enjoyed each one of the ports of call. We learned a great deal through our tours. We enjoyed the two swimming pools and the recreational amenties provided on board the ship. Everyone on the ship made us feel welcome, and they were genuinely interested in making sure that we were enjoying the cruise at all times. We also appreciated the assistance which Viking gave to us at the end of the tour in Bergen, Norway. Viking employees took us to the Airport and helped us deposit our luggage with the SAS personnel. First time cruising with Viking. Won’t be the last. Really enjoyed shore excursions and cruise ship experiences (Spa, Snow grotto, pools and entertainment)! Food was delicious; Manfredi’s was favorite because of its popularity, reservations are required and availability is limited. We visited four countries in seven days. By far, Italy and France were our favorite countries and shore excursions. We enjoyed a Day in Tuscany and Pisa. We enjoyed a wine-lunch with friends on the Canal du Midi and where we had the most free-time, Avignon. We had visited Barcelona earlier this year and enjoyed revisiting our favorite spots in the city for example, the Gothic District, Las Rambla, La Boqueria and something new — Flamenco dance and dinner show. Embarkation and disembark processes were organized, safe, secure and seamless. Every crew member with whom we interfaced was knowledgable, helpful and professional. Many were multi-lingual. Overall, we had a wonderful first taste of Europe and will definitely cruise with Viking again. Read Less

This cruise is fantastic! The only thing I could possibly want is a longer trip! Most people who choose Viking are doing so for the cultural enrichment, that being said all rooms above the Veranda include all the same amenities (Nespresso machine in the room, robes, slippers, etc) so we chose to splurge on things off the ship because the service, food and experience on the ship is fantastic regardless of your room category. The only exception is their bottom category Veranda doesn’t have the Nespresso machine, robes etc. One of our favorite things is visiting with the staff and hearing where they’re from. We were consistently told how much they like being part of the Viking team and it shows in the way they treat the guests. One minor disappointment was the included tours didn’t offer as much opportunity as we prefer so we spent almost $3K in extra excursions (which were fantastic and worth it) but we didn’t initially plan on that expense. We did have an opportunity to go inside many of the other cabins and it confirmed to us that we made the right decision to book a lower category room and have extra money for the places we were visiting. We are already planning our next trip with Viking. Read Less

Our time one the ship was easily as enjoyable as going onto shore in each of our ports. The ship was luxury all the way. We got to know the crew well and the service was exceptional. Entertainment was also fantastic and made our nights on board exciting and fun. We’ve been on other cruises, but this was just a whole other level. As for the food, you couldn’t find better meals if you tried. The excursion staff went out of their way to make sure we got the most out of each of our ports with history, culture, and general sites to see. Some of our favorites were ports of call we hadn’t even given much thought to. The onboard lectures about the ports prior were invaluable. Read Less

We wanted to go to Norway to look for my husband's roots, and he found this cruise that sounded interesting on a smaller, more elegant ship. Everything was smooth with great service from booking to disembarking; all of the staff were pleasant and helpful, the cabin was comfortable and well-appointed. Food was great with several restaurant choices, but we spent most meals in the delicious and bountiful buffet. We especially loved sitting on our veranda while the ship sailed out of ports and through the beautiful waters of the Norwegian coast. Shore excursions were appropriate to the locations with very good guides and drivers. The optional excursions are relatively high priced, so we did some things on our own. We did a 3-day pre-cruise extension to Iceland which was really enjoyable and a good value. The ship's entertainment was a bit narrowly focused, with good music performers and a fun magician, but would have liked more variety. We were so impressed with Viking that we signed up for a 2021 river cruise while on board! Read Less

Alaska has been on our bucket list for years, and when Viking announced they would be sailing to Alaska we jumped at the opportunity, having experienced a Viking River Cruise in 2014, the Romantic Danube. The Viking Orion had not yet been completed when we made our reservations, so watching her development was exciting. Viking truly has transported the finest of their river cruise ships into their ocean cruise ships, and it felt like coming home when we boarded at Seward. One aspect of the cruise that was attractive to us was the specific itinerary that included more of Alaska than just the fabled Inside Passage. We did the pre-cruise extension in Anchorage, where Viking picked us up at the Anchorage airport and transported us to the Anchorage Hilton for 2 nights, then onward from Anchorage to Seward to join the ship. The weather was not always cooperative and in Seward it was raining and chilly outside, but warm and welcoming onboard. Embarkation was smooth and fast, and the primary downside was the distance we had to walk from the point where we cleared security to the ship itself mostly in the rain. From then on the weather was either cloudy and cool or clouds and sun. Valdez was beautiful, sunny and clear; overcast at Hubbard Glacier and Icy Strait Point and Skagway, sunny and warm at Juneau, mostly sunny at Sitka, cloudy at Ketchikan, and gloriously sunny on arrival at Vancouver. Of the many attributes offered by Viking, having all outside cabins with balconies was a definite plus, the small size was wonderful with just 930 passengers, and perhaps the one consistent comment we heard was how thankful our shipmates were that there were no children (us included). Folks, this is not a party ship, yet it packs in more entertainment options than are possible to sample in the 11 days we had available. We would definitely cruise again with Viking Ocean and River Cruises. Read Less

We are not travelers. This trip was perfection. The ship, its design and appointments, crew...all perfection. Every detail, every comfort. I think I could be talked into living aboard! The hotel in Vancouver for extended stay was lovely, with a spectacular view. The brunch one of the best ever. On the cruise, the food and service were superb. I had the pool to myself most mornings. The lectures and TED talks were highlights, as was the planetarium 3D film on the Sami reindeer culture. Icy Straight Point and the town of were highlights. Sitka was a disappointment. We visited museums and galleries wherever we went, and they were a joy. I do wish there was still a formal or dressy night option. The musicians throughout the ship were fabulous. Would have enjoyed a tour of the mechanical levels of the ship. The concierge services were repeatedly helpful and informative. The daily newsletter, and the onscreen itinerary maps onscreen in the rooms were much appreciated. Best cruise ever! Read Less

We chose this cruise, first, for the destination. We have always wanted to visit the British Isles. This cruise allowed us to get a taste of several countries, and multiple cities all in one vacation. We chose Viking because they offered this trip, it also because the value of the cruise was well worth it. It is not the least expensive one out there, but we agree that it is of the best value. Some of the reasons to travel Viking are: no kids under 18, no casinos, no umbrella drinks, no upselling of products in the spa, no additional charges for excursions, no additional charges for specialty restaurants, no nickel and diming with pictures of you with the captain etc. This is an ADULT cruise for those who want to LEARN. Of course we also had a ton of fun, but this is not a party cruise. The ship itself was a floating palace. Beautiful, clean, simple Scandinavian decor, lovely colors mixed with creams, and the lighting was spectacular. Destination artwork and pictures decked the walls and seating areas. Food was amazing. Cleanest public restrooms I’ve ever seen! The entire ship was immaculate. They worked so hard at keeping things clean! Daily tea was served in the Wintergarden complete with loose leaf tea in pots, delicious scones and finger sandwiches. We took advantage of that as much as we could. Service was outstanding. We simply could not have asked for better. Anything we needed or wanted was ours. The destinations were incredible. Excursions were good. Most tour guides were very knowledgeable and helpful, with a few exceptions, but those guides didn’t work directly for Viking, and the ones we were disappointed in, we let Viking know. In addition, there were port talks given in advance to inform you about the port, and any last minute changes that were taking place. And the lectures by the resident historians were not only informative, but entertaining as well! Embarkation and Disembarkation went very smoothly. No troubles at all. I just can’t recommend Viking enough. You will NOT be disappointed! Read Less

We chose Viking Cruises because of its' reputation as being the best cruise line in the industry. The British Isles Explorer cruise allowed us to see ports we had not visited before in Norway, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Ireland and England. The included tours were excellent. In fact' we added 4 tours (total 18) to insure we saw all the things we wanted to see during our 14 day cruise. The ship was fastidious, the crew was efficient, friendly and accommodating. Food was very good and plentiful. Complimentary wine and beer with lunch and dinner a definite plus. Stocked minirefrigerator with free soft drinks and snacks unheard of. On board entertainment exceptional. Everything about the cruise was beyond our expectations. Even warm wash cloths handed to us when we returned from our tours. Talk about being pampered!! In our minds, Viking set the benchmark for excellence and we would be hard pressed to choose another cruise line in the future. What a wonderful time we had! Read Less

This was an amazing cruise and was my 1st cruise experience. Loved the talks onboard the ship including having an astronaut to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11. Service on the ship was excellent at all times. My wife's main focus was on Liverpool and London as she is a Beatles fanatic. She loved the excursions we did. I'm not much of drinker but found that I really liked the variety of wines served during lunch and dinner. We missed our connecting flight to Bergen but Viking made sure we made it to the boat on time. Our luggage didn't arrive with us in Bergen but the Viking rep at the airport filed all the paperwork for us as we didn't have time. The followed up with daily reports on were our luggage was and did our laundry for the 3 days we didn't have our luggage. The gave us a shipboard credit for the luggage issue. We liked our cruise so much that we have booked a river cruise and another ocean cruise! Read Less

This cruise was a result of our excellent 2015 Grand European River cruise. We were impressed by the excellent service and attention to detail that is Viking's legacy. We decided to go on the Baltic cruise because of the reviews and responses from other Viking cruise passengers. We felt as though this cruise changed us from cruise passengers to members of the Viking family. As such, we have booked another cruise to the British Isles this summer to celebrate our 52nd anniversary. This cruise was beyond excellent. We experienced Iceland for five days before the cruise and that in itself was a remarkable experience. Viking booked us into the Canopy by Hilton right in the "old town" portion of Reykjavik. This hotel was fantastic as it was in the heart of all major sights and it the accommodations were impeccable. While in Iceland the Viking arranged tours provided us with an exciting view of the country; from the geothermal grid to the calming Blue Lagoon. After the smooth Iceland Air flight to Bergen we easily cleared through the airport with the assistance of the arrival Viking personnel. Our embarkation was very smooth and took very little time all because of Vikings' pre-planning. Our luggage was quickly transferred from the airport baggage pickup to our cabin without incident. The baggage transfer is a welcome event especially for senior travelers like us. Our cabin on the Viking Sky was comfortable and over the top with personalized service. We had plenty of storage space for our clothing and the balcony was perfect for early morning coffee while still in pajamas. We especially enjoyed the great food in the Dining Room. It was always prepared to perfection and was attractive on the plate. The Dining room and Buffet were always spotless and the attendants were plentiful. Service was great. We especially enjoyed Vikings policy of open seating which allows you to meet and enjoy other guests. This enabled us to develop friendships and collectively we decided to book another cruise in 2020. The on board entertainment was perfect for this type of cruise. The cruise historian was packed full of knowledge but started out as though it was a detailed college lecture. On the next presentation her briefing was spot-on with helpful regional history. She made our trip more interesting. We went on all of the included excursions and they were excellent. St. Petersburg was different as you could not just walk off the pier without a visa. We booked three additional tours beyond the included to see Peterhof Palace, The Hermitage and the Metro on Foot. These tours were excellent and gave us the chance to experience the Russian culture. While on Russian tours we were under the guardianship of the tour guide who made sure we did not drift away from the group. But even with these hindrances Russia was a beautiful visit. All of the other included tours were well planned, timed perfectly and was hosted by competent guides. It was very satisfying to know that Viking was taking care of you in each port city whenever you would see the red canopy hosted by helpful Viking guides. We were in Europe thirty some years ago to celebrate our boys graduating from college. Since we were unable to get there to see the wall coming down we purposely scheduled the train excursion to Berlin. This trip was a long day on the train but it got us right into Berlin to see all of the important sites. Our city tour by motor coach enabled us to see the major buildings and then it dropped us at the Brandenburg Gate. We were able to see the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Check Point Charlie, and other major sites of interest. There was plenty of time to see Berlin and our train trip back to the Viking Sky was comfortable. This excursion to Berlin was perfectly planned by Viking. Viking takes this worry off your shoulders in cruise selection by allowing us to make all arrangements well in advance of the cruise sail date. Exceptional service, attention to detail and a high level of luxury are some of the major reasons we will return to Viking for all of our future cruises. Read Less
