The ship itself was outstanding, with great amenities. The Gym/ Spa area was outstanding, especially the "Thermal Spa" area. The restaurants were all outstanding and catered to different needs and tastes. An unexpected surprise was the planetarium theatre where we saw a couple of shows about the universe and the aurora. The "common" areas provided space for quiet relaxation and opportunities for your choice of musical interludes. The entertainment selection was excellent, with many different types of music... classical (piano and strings), acoustic guitar, musical themed concerts, rock band. The individual cabins were just right in terms of space and amenities... and the heated floor in the bathroom was a nice touch. Being a smaller ocean cruise ship, all cabins had outside windows and balconies, which made the travelling more interesting. The Viking staff were all excellent! From the Captain to the cabin stewards, everyone had a smile on their face, catered to your every need and made you feel welcome. Awesome photo opportunities! We chose this cruises based on the ports, presuming low season and fewer crowds, and duration (13 days) seemed good. We arrived early and spent four nights in Barcelona prior to embarkation. All the dining choices were excellent. Our stateroom on Deck 8 was a good choice allowing easy access to the Explorer Lounge and walks on the open Deck 8 and sports activities on Deck 9. We spoiled ourselves forever by selecting the Penthouse Junior Suite (PS1). Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth with no complaints. Our PS1 gave us stateroom access early and it was ready with no waiting. The stateroom was outstanding; spacious yet a cozy space, welcoming us after a day busy with excursions. The live music in the Atrium, both piano and strings was always soothing, while choosing a dining option after returning from a shore excursion. The service was outstanding. The attentiveness of all staff and crew never left us wanting or waiting. We enjoyed all our shore excursions, those included and those that were additional. The local guides I would rate as good to great. The only disappointment was bypassing Monaco due to high winds and seas, so we arrived at the next port (Livorno) around noon that day. We loved being able to dock at each port with no tendering (don’t know if that is normal with Viking). I was impressed with the Captain’s skill at unassisted docking at each port. My first ocean cruise and I can say my wife’s and my best ever ocean cruise. We are planning another Viking for 2021, with a river cruise in 2020. Read Less

We chose to travel with Viking because of a positive experience we had on a previous River Cruise. We chose this particular itinerary because of the destination in the Mediterranean. The experience was positive from the time the Viking representatives met us at the Barcelona airport and they dropped us off at the Venice airport. Totally enjoyed everything about the ship, the Captain (got to meet him), the crew, the staff, the accommodations, the service, the food, Viking's attention to detail, the organization/coordination of events, the Spa (my wife), on-board events, the Port-talks, the evening shows, the views from our Veranda, and just EVERYTHING ON BOARD THE SHIP. It felt like we were traveling with Viking family and it was reflected in their faces. It was also very nice not to have adolescents nor a casino on board. A couple of the ground tours may need to be reviewed and tweaked, but these were outside vendors that Viking works with and depends on the particular land tour guide for your group. Would we do this tour again?...YES! Would we travel with Viking to another destination?...YES! We traveled with two friends, who were Viking 1st timers and they are now Viking fans. Continue upholding the Viking principles and keep up the excellent work, Aloha. Read Less

Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with a Mediterranean Cruise. We chose Viking because of its comprehensive itinerary of 6 countries in 13 days. The weather was great and the pre cruise and post cruise extensions greatly enhanced the actual cruise itself. The pre cruise extension enabled us to meet, and make, new friends that we enjoyed when embarking for the cruise itself. The shore excursions were interesting, fun and educational at the same time. The ship's cabin was a comfortable size and we very much enjoyed the heated bathroom floor. The food was plentiful, tasty and had something for every; plus, the included wine for lunch and dinner was a very nice addition. The crew members were very attentive to our requests and eager to make our experience special. This was our fourth cruise and first with Viking, we will definitely book with Viking again. The ship size was perfect for a more intimate experience, and did not feel like one was traveling with a whole city of people. Would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to do a Mediterranean cruise. Read Less

My husband and I selected Viking because of the itinerary and we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and birthdays. This was our first cruise ship experience and we wanted to go with the best. Viking did not disappoint. We arrived and our cabin was spacious and comfortable. The housekeeping staff was attentive, on point and always ready to fulfill a request. We explored the ship and was taken by all the attention to detail in the design and decorative accents. Our excisions were planned and the Viking team made sure all the logistics were taken care of so we just had to show up at the appointed time and place to enjoy our experiences. This made for a worry-free enjoyable vacation. Arrival back onboard the ship included friendly greetings from the staff and a visit to the various cocktail lounges to recount our day with others we just meet on the tours. The food variety, quality and options ensured something different and the entertainment was enjoyable. We had such a great time, we have already booked another cruise with Viking!! Read Less

This was our first Viking Ocean cruise — we’d done Viking River Cruises and they were always terrific. This cruise interested us because it called on ports in Japan and China as well as Hong Kong. We were completely satisfied with the cruise, including the room, dining and shipboard experience. We were a little disappointed with the shore excursions, not because they were bad, they just weren’t as good as they were on their European river cruises. We were told it was because Viking controls the tours on European river cruises but contracts them out on ocean cruises. Getting on and off the ship was easy because there were less than 800 passengers aboard, even with the Chinese immigration officials making it difficult. Passing through immigration in Japan was a piece of cake. The ship had scheduled entertainment nightly in the theater and other areas of the ship as well as dancing in the lounge. Viking’ ships are a great size, not too big and impersonal, but big enough to have the amenities and entertainment to make it fun. Hong Kong and Shanghai were wonderful places to spend time and snorkeling on Ishigaki Island was memorable. We could have given up The smaller ports for more time in the larger. Dining was first rate at the Restaurant, the Chef’s Table and Manfrettis’ and very good at the World Cafe. Read Less

Viking is our cruise top pick. We loved the ship and it's crew. Included tours need some work. Stops on the buses were poor, Dominica and Tortola were excellent. I understand some of the islands were destroyed during the hurricanes but more beach scenes or longer stops are needed. Not enough time to enjoy the views. This is our 3rd Viking Cruise and the included shore excursions were excellent on tne first 2. Sea food was truly excellent.. Too much salt in some of the choices. Our feet were swollen. Extremely relaxing. We are going to Cairo next year on the nile river cruise and looking forward to it. 5 stars for the cabin attendents. Service though out the ship was impeccable. The ship was very clean, Ship layout was very well planned with easy accessibility . I was given the cruise as a gift - my favorite place to visit is New York, his is San Juan so we got the best of both. Viking is a more laid-back cruise line, so I loved going to dinner whenever we wanted, the choice to sit by ourselves or join others and not dressing up every night. The rooms are very spacious, beds are wonderfully comfortable, shower has room to move around, and the verandas are semi-private. The entertainment was very good - length of shows was about 45 minutes which was perfect. The service is unbeatable! We never had to ask for anything - our favorite waitress (Nadia) was always around to get us a drink, our cabin was always clean when we came back to it. The included shore excursions were interesting - we only signed up for one that was not included, but it was cancelled because it did not meet the minimum number of people (so we did it on our own). I did miss a sports bar to watch football and the baseball playoffs, but could follow the scores on my ipad. Our flight was one of the last ones out (4:45), so we didn't leave the ship until around 10:00. They had set up a hospitality room for us to wait at a hotel across from the pier with food and beverages. Love this cruise line and we are deciding on our next voyage with Viking! Read Less

This cruise was a great fall break. The captain maneuvered the ship to avoid some rough seas on the first day as we departed for Bermuda The captain was always informative, giving us daily updates of the cruise. Bar servers Rosie and Nadia were always gracious and made our trip a lot of fun. The ship was the right size to dock close in to the port minimizing the walk down the pier. The piece and quiet made the trip great. No long lines ever. The dining rooms were beautifully decorated and again the service was great and the menu selection was outstanding. The ships stores were excellent. There was a scarf demonstration. At night we went to the theater and saw several good shows, then found a quiet spot for cocktail. Included shore excursions were excellent as well as the optional tours. The Viking crew assisted us getting us to the right tour and helping us catch a missed buss. There was always some activity going on all day. Our cabin was turned down each night and the next morning room service was nice to have coffee and rolls on the balcony. We couldn't wait to tell our friends and travel agent about our BEST small ship cruise. Read Less

This cruise was for our 50th anniversary. We chose this itinerary because of the ports and number of countries that were included. Everything about the Viking experience is exceptional. They know how to make your cruise the very best it can be. We both felt that embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. The ship was very easy to navigate and it did not take long to find your way around. The Viking Sky is a beautifully designed ship. We thoroughly enjoyed our cabin, especially the heated bathroom floors. It is a very well laid out plan. The dining experience is outstanding. All venues have excellent and varied choices and the service is top notch. I especially enjoyed the Chef's Table. It was an epicurean experience. The entertainment and enrichment programs were excellent. All facets of service on the Viking Sky is superb. We thoroughly enjoyed all our excursions. However, we did have one glitch with an excursion but it did not detract from our overall experience. We are already planning for another Viking cruise in the near future. We will probably do a river cruise. Read Less

We choose the cruise because it hit 10 cities in 13 days. It was a great way to get a flavor of various countries so we could decide which ones to return to and spend more time. There were 420 employees for 850 guests! A fantastic ratio that ensured a very high level of customer service. Right from the start it was first class. Once we got our baggage it was less than 40 minutes before we were in our cabin! Unbelievable organization! We took an Alaskan Cruise on the Celebrity Cruise Lines and we had to wait in long lines for over 2 1/2 hours just to get to our cabin! Each excursion was very well planned and the logistics went off without a hitch. There was always a committee of ship officials to see us off for that day's excursion. Every time we came back from an excursion there was a welcoming committee with bottled water and a moist towel to refresh ourselves. For the Naples welcoming committee they were handing out Limon cello!! What a treat! Only negatives were that a few of the bartenders were not quite up to snuff. They seemed aloof and were very cheap in the shots they poured. If I ordered through a waitress the drink was well poured. Funny...why would that have been? Drinks were supposed to be free during the lunch and dinner times. More than once I went to the bar 1 - 2 minutes after the cuttoff time and they would not serve me without charging me! For real.....not really a warm cozy feeling there. They were also very rude about it. I felt like I was a criminal! There was also a time when I ordered a soda water with lime while watching the entertainment and they insisted on charging it to my room. I had done it many times before and they never asked for my room number. It was complementary. After all we paid you would have thought soda would be a freebee all the time no questions asked. Also the Gelato stands closed from 2:30PM to 5PM and then again after 9PM. So when we came back from an excursion we had to wait to enjoy a nice refreshing gelato! Food was outstanding with a wide variety of 5 different choices for where to dine! Alaskan King Crab at every meal hit the mark for me! They always had a choice of food from the culture of the port we were in. That was a nice touch. All the wait staff were cordial and made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed conversing with them and getting to know them, where they were from and a little about their families. It was quite neat to have them call us by name when they saw us. "Hi Mr. Joe!" Room service was also top notch. The first night I had two steak dinners delivered to our cabin after our 23 hour flight experience. They came cooked to perfection with wonderful sides and outstanding cheesecake! That was a nice way to kick off our dream vacation! We also enjoyed all the entertainment that was available throughout the ship. A wide variety of excellent choices from classical string duo to a wonderful pianist that played a wonderful selection and also requests. There was one time when my wife and I walked in and she started playing a song we had requested the night before! She smiled at us and nodded! We also made many friends! There were quite a few on board from the Pacific Northwest where we are from. Having the laundry room just a few doors down from our cabin was a real plus! We were able to monitor when it was available without much time or stress. The Spa was very luxurious. The Spa Treatments were outstanding! we had two massages, one the second day and one the 11th day. Perfect for keeping us fresh and relaxed. Having breakfast delivered to our cabin daily was great! We filled out what we wanted the night before and what time to deliver it. The next morning it was right on time and very fresh! Eating breakfast on our veranda was a treat! Every morning was like Christmas morning! We could not wait to open our curtains and take in the view of the new port! Monte Carlo was probably the most breathtaking although they all had their own appeal. We like that since the ship was not as big as the large ocean liners we were able to dock closer to the port! We highly recommend this cruise. You may pay a bit more than some others but it is well worth the investment! The spa treatments were first class and we never had to wait in line for anything! Job well done Viking!!! Read Less

We chose Viking after talking with friends who have done Mediterranean cruises and recommended a smaller ship experience, as well as doing some research on the best cruise line rankings. We were not disappointed!! The ship is amazing and comfortable. It is so easy to relax, or find things to do. What really makes the Viking experience stand out is the incredible staff! Everyone, and do mean everyone, is very friendly and helpful. Many of the waiters and bartenders knew our names after the first day and we had some amazing conversations with them about their home cities, working on the ship, ports of call, and our families. Amazing people! And the food was 5-Star! The chefs are incredible! This was our first time to Europe so we wanted to experience as much as we could in as many places as possible. That was why we chose to go on a ship, and chose this particular cruise with 10 ports of call. It was the trip of a lifetime! We did several of the included tours which gave a very good introduction to the cities, and then went off on our own exploration. Viking makes it very easy to get to and from the ship so you can explore as much as you like. We also upgraded our excursions in several ports and they were well worth it! Rome, Pompei, and Venice were some of the ones I would recommend looking into. The guides were all local and very good. The other great thing was that Viking had onboard historians that gave talks before each port of call. They were very entertaining and informative. It was also great to get the daily newsletter in our room with information on the next days activities on board and ashore, specific on excursions and times, and any specific details that we needed to be aware of in the next port. The overall experience exceeded my expectations on nearly every level! We are already looking into our next Viking cruise and have recommended them to all of our friends. It truly was the trip of a lifetime! Read Less

We chose to extend our cruise at the beginning in Madrid and at the end in Venice. Dining and tour choices were amazing. Embarkation was very smooth. The Viking agents were friendly and efficient. The ship was pristine and our cabin, a junior suite, was lovely. We never had any problems with dining, service or appointments at the spa, which I highly recommend! We really enjoyed being on an adult only cruise. The cultural opportunities were unsurpassed. There is a daily briefing informing you of the next day’s activities. The tour guides were very professional and many were teachers. Disembarking was very easy and getting to our hotel in Venice was no problem at all. There are so many opportunities for tours that going on this cruise several times is an option. However, we chose to see Scandinavia next. I must also say that I had the opportunity to see the ships doctor. No problem getting in and my problem was taken care of immediately! All in all, the best cruise I have ever been on. Viking Star was the second cruise out of a 4 cruise itinerary. I wasn’t sure it would be our style but we loved it from the first moment on board. We felt so loved and welcomed. The entire crew and staff were visible all the time with a cool towel and drink after returning from side tours. The food was very good but not as good as QM2. Room service was great! Explorer Lounge was our spot for after dinner drinks. The 2 guys that work that area are awesome. We loved that the ship had books everywhere. The pianist Andrea was outstanding along with the slack key guitarist. The entertainment was all great along with the lectures and port talks. We loved the included excursion at every port. Their side tours were very reasonable along with the premium beverage pkg. the spa was great. I got a pedicure and the technician was great. Our cabin attendant was great. We had a balcony cabin. We liked the Nesprrsso in the room. The bathroom was awesome! The large shower and heated floors were s huge plus. Thank you Viking. You finally got what cruisers want! The laundry room worked great. The daily program worked great with our lifestyle. Timing of the daily schedule is important to us due to sleeping times after long excursion days. The expensive excursion to the Vatican was not worth the $. It was not Viking’s fault but 45,000 people were in there on our day. We felt literally pushed thru and unsafe. The tour guides were wonderful and tried to make it bearable. The Panoramic Rome bus tour was great. We loved the itinerary, especially the Croatia stops of Split and Dubrovnik. We loved Corfu too. We also liked the night on the boat in Barcelona. The included tour was wonderful. We had a magical 12 days and will definitely take another Viking cruise. Read Less

We were looking for a special way to celebrate our 35th anniversary and decided on the Viking Mediterranean Odyssey. Neither of us had ever been to Europe and it had always been a dream of mine. We had heard so much good about Viking that we decided to go for it! Had a rough start-flight was cancelled and arrived late missing Venice...but that wasn't on Viking. Once on board, it was all good! The atmosphere on board was instantly calming and made it easy to forget the beginning and enjoy the ship and all the great ports. Our excursions were all very interesting with knowledgeable guides. Viking thinks of everything that you could possibly need and more! I especially enjoyed the breadsticks and limoncello after an all day excursion in Rome. The staff was so attentive and knowledgeable. Our room was kept spotless, the food was unbelievable and there were so many places on the ship to relax and unwind. I was also a big fan of afternoon tea in the Wintergarden. I will never cruise on one of the megaships again -- the size of the Viking ship was perfect. No pushing your way through the casino crowd after dinner or manuevering through the shoppers trying to get a "deal". This was hands-down the best trip ever! Read Less

Viking cruises are for adults who want to learn something about the places they visit and don't want to be "nickel and dimed" for every little extra. Embarkation and disembarkation were quick and smooth. With only about 900 passengers, you're never fighting crowds. The service was exceptional on this ship, with very happy crew members. The ports were a good variety of Mediterranean stops. Because there is an included tour at every port, there was always an excellent guide describing the attributes of an area, telling you the best places to shop, and highlighting additional things you can do after the tour was completed. We chose a couple optional tours, such as the Opera at night in Venice, but for the most part, the included tours were enough. The ship is well appointed, with several lounges. The musical entertainment was exceptional. The band and singers were skilled and worked well together. The variety provided was good, with even a talented cruise director performing one night. By the way, the cruise director was the best we've ever had and we've done dozens of cruises. This is not a ship with lots of entertainment venues for youngsters nor a casino. What we enjoyed instead were very interesting lectures by guest speakers who gave us the history of the places we were visiting and many other TED type talks. I loved listening to these. Our veranda stateroom was roomy enough, but could have used more drawer space. Our cabin steward brought us as many extra hangers as we needed. A nice amenity is the free laundry facilities which are quite useful on a 14 day cruise. The fitness center and spa were fabulous. I used the fitness center every morning. It had lots of equipment, was very spacious, with windows looking out to sea. The dressing rooms were large and included were a sauna, cold dip, large vitality pool, hot tub, snow grotto, and steam room. On the last few days at sea, the snow grotto was closed for maintenance. The food was very good and they were very careful to plan for my allergies. We would definitely book a Viking ocean cruise again. Read Less

The ship was beautiful, well put together, clean and not overcrowded. The staff and crew was Amazing, Helpful, kind, thoughtful and just plain awesome. The staff knew our names on sight and offered what we needed before we had to ask. We had a wonderful time and never felt overcrowded or pressed. The shore excursions were well organized but too short. On our own in Paris was spent in traffic and I would recommend getting into the heart of the city and dropping off the passengers so they can maximize their short time. Instead we got a bus tour in traffic. I would also recommend more time in ports to allow for exploration of destinations. Further some of the guides (Porto) were not great and our time the brought us to very rundown areas and not to the beautiful city. It was disappointing and the guide was not great. The Cartagena guide was amazing and was the guide for our Barcelona tour who, due to a bus issue, took a few of us on a walking tour through the old town. She was amazing.. Overall we enjoyed the ship, missed a port due to weather and we completely understand why and were not upset. Would have liked to have more time in London, Paris, Porto, Amsterdam and Barcelona. I also thought it would have been a nice idea to go through the Straight of Gibraltar during the day so we could see it. Maybe making an event out of would have been nice. The food was amazing and diverse and there was always enough choices to eat and enjoy. The wine and dark beer were plentiful and very good. The afternoon tea was also delightful! We never found it crowded in the restaurant, by the pool, or in the amazing Nordic Spa and that made the trip more amazing. Overall a wonderful experience, some areas for improvement, but we will definitely be booking a future Cruise with Viking. Read Less

My wife and I have always wanted to visit the Baltic and this cruise was the perfect fit. We researched many other cruise lines and Viking offered the best itinerary. We joined the Vikings group on Facebook and read all of the reviews and found that many of the reviewers were repeat Vikings Cruisers who rated Viking as their preferred cruise line. The Jupiter was a new ship that received high reviews. We liked the fact that Viking would handle our flight arrangements and included cultural excursions at most of the ports of call. We chose to purchase additional excursions and was extremely pleased with the two day excursion in St Petersburg which just so happened to coincide with my wife’s birthday. (an added benefit). The food and beverage selection was exceptional. I have a dietary restriction and the Food and Beverage manager did everything in his power to accommodate me. All the staff on the Jupiter were professional, friendly and accommodating. Our suite was well appointed and comfortable. Our suite attendant was extremely attentive and went above and beyond to ensure our every need was met. The free laundry service was a huge benefit. Even though the ship had 900 on board, it was so spacious and well appointed that you never realized there were that many people on board. Our cabin was well appointed and we had a wonderful balcony. Staff and crew on Viking Star were great. Room steward Virginia was fantastic! Food on board and ashore was incredible. We would probably not repeat this itinerary but only because we would like to experience different locales. One of our travel companions had a minor medical issue and the medical and restaurant staff combined to resolve that very satisfactorily. At all times we felt that passenger safety and security were a priority for staff and crew. The cabin was very comfortable and much roomier than we expected. Great cruise line. Awesome ship and service. One of the best designed ships we have ever been on. Wraparound Promenade deck. Thermal spa outfitted with more different treatment areas (whirlpools, snow room, dry sauna, steam room, etc). Great fitness room. Most rooms between the common areas on decks 1-2-7-8 limiting how many stairs to traverse to get between rooms and common areas. Ship had no feeling of crowding anywhere. Common services desks designed to address client needs. Ship was largely digital meaning that many things could be accomplished through television set in the stateroom. Service was exemplary in every way. Wait times throughout the ship were short or non-existent. Service was highly anticipatory. All administrative activities including embarkation and debarkation, as well as port visits were professionally and efficiently handled. Very good food, using fresh, high quality ingredients. Food was well prepared and tasty. Special requests were handled by the culinary staff with aplomb. World Cafe had most items of the Restaurant + some additional surprises. Mamsen's deli was okay, but the Pool Grill was outstanding. Both Manfredi's and Chef's Table were very good. Could have offered more traditional desserts. On-board activities, while not lacking, could have been more robust. Afternoon tea was great featuring more than 12 types of tea. Enrichment lectures were good also and were recorded for later viewing in the staterooms. No casino or bingo which was a plus. Read Less

This is our first cruise with Viking and we are converts! We have cruised with most other lines and while we don't consider ourselves "cruise people", we do end up taking a fair amount of cruises. We really enjoyed the low key luxury decor of the ship. I read an interview with the CEO of Viking and he described his line as "the thinking man's cruise rather than the drinking man's cruise." I think that this sums it up perfectly. The library on the ship was amazingly well thought out and the educational presentations were outstanding. We also were blown away by the thoughtful touches on the ship - like a free laundry room on each floor. A special shout out goes to all of the staff - they were so helpful and friendly. I never felt like they were chiseling for tips. Truly, Viking felt like a Four Seasons Hotel at sea. We will definitely be back. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we love cruising. We find this way of travelling very relaxing and at the same time interesting. You can visit many cities and have a general idea of all the places the ship stop. The ship has all you need to have a fantastic vacation time. We never have to wait for a table to eat. The restaurants, all of them are amazing. The chef Ivan, from Chile took really good care of us. He showed as the kitchen and we were surprised how everything was being prepare for each meal in all of the restaurants. The cabin was very comfortable, as well as the bed and pillows, but the best part in the cabin was the bathroom. Really big for a ship bath with warm floor. They have service twice a day to keep the cabin always tidy and clean. We love the entertainment, the 4 young vocalists were exceptional, same as the pianists and the 2 girls who played stringed instruments. We only were sad because the ship couldn't stop in Poland port due to weather conditions. The excursions were very interesting same as the guides, specially Helen in Saint Petersburg. We did some included excursions and some prepaid ones. We already booked a future trip to Egypt in a Viking river for 2021. We recommend the pre and post cruise extensions, both great options, we enjoyed them a lot. We value very much; the quality of service Viking has. Although we did many other cruises with other companies, this last one was overall the best ever. Thanks Viking crew and everyone on the ship for a great experience and a phenomenal vacation.
