We liked the itinerary and the small ship size. Too bad we had to drop the scheduled port of the Grand Cayman. We had been to Jamaica before and do not much care for that country so we didn't mind losing that stop. We loved the staff--all were super friendly and outgoing. Viking Ocean definitely cares about its guests. We were disappointed with the dining experience at Manfredi's. We ate there 2x. The first time, my husband's steak was full of grizzle and was just a poor quality piece of meat. The second time we ate there, my lasagna was WAY over done, dry, and the top layer of noodles was brown. Lasagna is supposed to have ricotta and mozzarella cheese in it---mine was simply dried out pasta with some ground beef between the layers. The Chefs Table is a MARVELOUS restaurant. We ate there 2x and had a wonderful experience both times. I found I did not have enough variety for breakfast in that every day in the World Cafe, the same items would be laid out. I missed not having corn muffins as one of the muffins offered for breakfast. I wish some more varieties of smoked fish would have been offered in that every day the same two types of salmon were laid out for breakfast in the World Cafe.We enjoyed eating in the main dining room but would like the menu to be changed more often. Most nights the exact same dishes were offered on the left side of the menu. Only some new items would be offered on the right page of the menu. Food in the main dining room however was good and was a vast improvement over Manfredi's. Read Less

Food was delicious. Champagne and other little treats were a nice surprise at different times. Specialty dining room experience was a very enjoyable experience with fantastic food and wait staff. All the staff including those cleaning were always very friendly and welcoming. Very talented entertainment crew. Although the entertainment staff was small each night they mixed up the performers and created a different variety show each evening. Every tour was so very informative, interesting, and well planned with great guides. Viking took very good care of everyone. The embarkation and disembarkation were very well handled without any problems. When we returned from one of our tours there were many staff members lining the pier with music playing and champagne and orange juice in hand for those returning from their days adventures. We missed several of our planned ports of calls which was disappointing but were comped back after we returned from the cruise. We had been on several river cruises with Viking but this was our first ocean cruise with Viking. While we were on board we enjoyed it so much we booked another ocean cruise. Read Less

The many repeat Viking cruisers on this ship provides proof that they enjoy the itineraries and accomodations Viking provides. Excellence in service is the norm, but the way the crew attends to the "one-offs" and occasional mis-steps by going above and beyond to make things right is the real proof of this high class operation. The ship is cleaned inside and out each day. The cabin service is spotless and the bed sheets are changed steamed/ironed so that they appear brand new each evening. The balcony glass partitions are scrubbed so that the salt water spray disappears and provides a clear view of the town you are docked in. The ship exterior is always washed and scrubbed. The dining room sitting is almost immediate and the alternate World Cafe is great for quick dinners before the shows or lectures. Disembarkation with the tenders is stress-free and moves quite quickly, but most of the time you could walk right onto the dock and directly into town. Where the town is a bit farther away, a free bus shuttle is provided and is very convenient. Read Less

We did a river cruise for my retirement two years earlier and loved the Viking experience, with the exception that the food was not what we expected and very disappointing compared to other cruise lines we have experienced, i.e. lacking vegetables, salads, healthier foods, chef had poor choices/poor preparations. Then we tried the ocean cruise for my husband's retirement, because we wanted to experience Costa Rica and the Panama Canal in particular. It was a joyous experience for meals and time on the ship. We did NOT enjoy the excursions. The buses taking us to adventures were run down and worrisome that they could break down and leave us stranded in dangerous areas of Belize, Costa Rica, Cartegena, etc. The Cartegena trip took us to trashy shopping, even though we wanted to go to upper scale shops. Our best experience was the cruise and time on the ship; our next will include as many days at sea as possible! The ocean cruise was a truly relaxing vacation, always able to go to breakfast, lunch, or dinner, no clean up, never had to make my bed, etc. Some of the food was not the best, however, there were always enough good choices, AND the ice cream bar was a daily must! An early 2018 Viking Cruise from Miami to Central America was a very enjoyable first exposure to ocean cruising and a first experience on one of Viking’s new ocean cruise ships. The Viking Sky crew were great hosts making this a memorable “first” all the way around. The ship is very comfortable, the cabin was quiet and always clean, the bed inviting at night affter very busy days when we had port or excursion stops. The arrangements for the excursions well well done and implemented efficiently. I would highly recommend this ship and the experience for anyone questioning an ocean cruise. The embarkation was handled well, transportation from Miami International was timely and the boarding process efficient especially given the number of people being processed at one time. At 930 passengers the ship size didn’t feel overwhelming and there are quiet places to read and escape on many decks. The ship has 5 restaurants or venues for meals including the buffet style World Cafe and the food was excellent. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the Panama Canal transit and the port stop of Cartagena. Also quite interested in sampling Viking Ocean cruises having been on Holland America a few times and on Celebrity once. The ship is beautiful -- spare and clean Scandavian design. The food was very good. We thought the two meals we had at the Chef's Table were as good as any fine restaurant in a big city. Also enjoyed the chat we had with the chef during our French Bistro experience. Manfredi's was less perfect -- there were some service issues, such as courses arriving at different times for the two of us, then everything all at once. In comparison with the Chef's Table, not nearly as wonderful. Meals in The Restaurant were delicious, esp the seafood and fish. It did seem as if they were understaffed because at some times there was a long wait to order or to be served. Did not find the same experience at breakfast or at lunch there, of course, there are less people dining there then. Service and variety of the food at the Terrace were excellent for both breakfast and lunch. We liked the Trolley tour of Key West but the instructions to get back to the ship were terrible -- we had to ask several times how to find our way. The tour of Panama City was sadly spent with more time at a disappointing shopping center at the Marina and not enough time in Casco Viejo (the old city). Be warned! The Panama Canal transit was marvelous. Great lecturers for the entire transit. We learned so much. One of the highlights for certain! In Cartagena we booked a private guide and had a truly fantastic experience on our own. We had such a good time we were the last people on board, just in time, at 8:30 pm the deadline for passengers! Great service by cabin attendants. And, except for some delays in The Restaurant good service by food servers as well. The entertainment was pretty cheesy. Quite disappointing overall. Excellent staff in the spa, great massage, and in the salon, good manicure. Due to bad weather we were unable to stop in Jamaica or Grand Cayman. The unfortunate thing was that we still had high winds on the extra 'at sea' days, therefore no chairs on deck. It made for slightly unpleasant 'spare time' as one had to find a location to read or play games along with 900 other people! Overall Viking did a good job, maybe need a bit more attention paid to the tours offered and the training of The Restaurant staff. Frankly, avoid the evening entertainment! Read Less

We choose this cruise because of the itinerary. It was a partial crossing of the Panama Canal and then back to the Caribbean. Which we preferrred rather than cruising over to the West Coast and long flight home. Also, preferred Caribbean ports. The Good - Viking Sky is a very nice ship. It is new so everything is fresh and clean. The design of the ship maximizes public areas. Plenty of places to sit and read or enjoy ocean views. The outside decks have seating around pool areas. In addition, lots of comfortable couches around other outside decks. The infinity pool was heaven, just the right temperature and looking off the back of the ship while floating around was fun. Food was very good most nights. A few blips mid cruise, in food and service. After a couple of nights food recovered to a high level. It is so great to have good food in the main dining room. The crew were very friendly and nice. Always tried to make you comfortable. After a few days hostess in dining room remembered our names and where we preferred to sit. The Bad The tours started off badly. We registered online for everything, but the first night when reviewing tour tickets and times for departure in newsletter. We found our 1:00 tour was now departing at 9:00 am, even though they still had a 1:00 tour listed. When on vacation we do not like to rush around in the morning so we skipped this tour. There were a couple other tour changes, like tour length listed originally as 7 hours, but in actuality only being 4 hours. We skipped this tour too, would have gone if we knew time was shorter. So check all your tours carefully. Cabin was not in great location - see below. Weather was not the best. We enjoyed the Panama Canal crossing, unfortunately weather turned bad once in Caribbean. Had to skip two ports. Viking managed to get us docked in Nassau and then provided a voucher for $250.each for future cruise Weather does play a big role in how your cruise experience goes and I have tried to be fair about my review. I think overall Viking provides a good value for your money and we will probably go on a another Viking cruise with the right itinerary. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted a warm climate to escape from the winter, because we had never seen this part of the world, and because we love Viking cruises. We thoroughly enjoyed Key West, especially Truman’s Little White House. Our guide was excellent and made the rich history come alive. In Colon, Panama, we visited the Embera Native Village and were enthralled with the people and intrigued with their lives. Of course, seeing the Canal and marveling at the engineering genius of the locks as well as at the notion of the near impossible feat which was accomplished there by those who built it were trip highlights. We have never been disappointed in a Viking cruise. We are vegetarians and the kitchen crew always makes sure we are well fed and happy with their offerings. The food is delicious and the presentation is exquisite! We experienced choppy seas and high winds after our port in Cartagena and had to reroute the rest of the trip. Rather than stopping in Montego Bay, Jamaica and in Grand Caymans, we stopped instead in Nassau, Bahamas and had an extra day at sea. There were plenty of enriching lectures and onboard entertainment to keep us busy during these at-sea days. Their Nordic spa is a beautiful oasis. From the extremely well-equipped locker rooms to the wave pool, the hot tub, the steam room, the snow grotto, the sauna, the plunge pool, a cruiser could spend hours each day feeling pampered there. They have a very nice workout facility, a “jogging” track on deck 2, and all sorts of spa services that individuals can avail themselves of. Viking Ocean cruises are top of the line! Read Less

This was my second Viking cruise and I was not disappointed. I traveled with a couple. The embarkation process was flawless. Disembarkation was delayed about 35 minutes from the scheduled time. When we arrived at the airport there were other buses from other cruises at the curbside area so there was a wait to check in and in the beginning there were only two agents checking people in. When we got to the agent and checked in, my suitcase was over so I had to go to the ticketing counter in the terminal to pay the fee. My friends went to TSA and made the flight. The line was long and by the time I got to the agent it was too late for my suitcase to make the flight. The agent rescheduled me to the next available flight to Tampa. I rented a car to drive to Sarasota. My cabin was well decorated. The bed was very comfortable. There was ample storage. The bathroom was a nice size and the heated floor felt great on my feet. My cabin steward Dwi provided great service. Written instructions near the phone for the use of the wake up calls would have been a help. The Restaurant and World Café had a variety of choices and the food was presented well and was delicious. The Pool Grill was a nice option as an alternative. The staff was always very professional with great customer service skills. The enrichment lectures were just that and brought lo life the areas we were visiting. I enjoyed all the entertainment and meeting the entertainers. The Liars Club was a niceending. I enjoyed the shore excursions but didn't seem to have much time for shopping. I am looking forward to future cruises with Viking. Read Less

Ship was kept in spotless condition at all times. 2. Excellent Service. Loved the staff to guests ratio. 3. Fantastic for the delicious food and the additional restaurants at no add'l cost. 4. Loved hearing the chirping birds in the public restrooms. 5. The choice of public spaces where you could enjoy being with others or being by yourself. 6. The bed linens were wonderful with excellent service by the room steward. 7. The inter-active tvs in the public spaces where you can get news, menus, etc. 8. Relaxing and beautiful decor. The gym was sufficient to handle the # of guests. 9. Refrigerator in room with soft drinks, candy and free bottles of water. 10. Informative shore lectures along with entertaining shore excursions all included. 11. On shore excursions, the "Viking" packet of handy wipes to keep germs from spreading. 12. Everything is included in one price - no add-ons (we did upgrade wine pkg which was very reasonable). I have sailed on many cruise lines and have now committed to only sailing on Viking!! This was our first Viking ocean cruise and it was wonderful! The boat was great and so was the crew! The cabin was very nice. The bed was comfortable and it was great to have a balcony. The only cabin complaint I have, was that the steward and snack bar people didn't give you a chance to answer the door when they knocked and would come right in. We never experienced that on the river cruises. The food was gourmet and the service in all the dining areas were very attentive. I was very surprised that the waiters and other servers remembered us (not just facial recognition, but names and room #s) being that there were over 900 people on the ship. We had one uncomfortable experience at Manfredi's restaurant. We had reservations and when we showed up there wasn't a table available for the 4 of us and they seated us at a table for 2 set for 4 people. I asked the maître-d to please change our table when one comes available. Several guest left and tables for 4 opened up soon after we were seated and they would not move us. Finally, we had to get the restaurant manager and after seeing how crowded the table was, we were moved. This could have been avoided if they just asked us to wait for a table. We wouldn't have minded waiting. We loved the guitarist and the trio of women! The bands were moving and the singers were outstanding! We enjoyed having drinks in the lounges and afternoon tea with the quaint entertainment provided. The idea of movies in the pool area at night was fantastic. The ports/excursions were enjoyable. The Panama Canal was very interesting to see and the lecturers was very knowledgable. They made it even more interesting. However in Cartagena, our tour guide was terrible (always on his phone and taking us thru a bunch of peddlers who were his friends) and the shopping place they took us to was a waste of time. It was very crowded and the vendors sold the same crappy items that no one wants to buy. More time in the town on our own after the tour would have been better. The cruise was wonderful and we would definitely consider another ocean cruise with Viking. Read Less

Recommended by a friend. No idea what to expect. Our first cruise. We were looked after right from the airport. Lovely welcoming with champagne. Had a quick tour of the ship and then to our cabin. Food the first night opened our eyes. This was going to be great. First stop Key West and then onto Belize and further. Shore excursions were well organized with lots of info and lectures about where you were going. The excursions themselves were a bit up and down but no fault of Viking. We saw a lot of the Western Caribbean and going through the Panama canal was the highlight- very exciting. The weather turned windy after Columbia and we were not able to dock in Montego Bay, Jamaica, which was a big disappointment for me but again no doing of Viking. We then had 3 days on ship straight which was too long but Viking were doing their best to entertain us. Nassau, Bahamas was not on the itinerary , added at the last minute due to the weather but it turned out to be fun. I'd recommend Viking to middle aged and older, not for children. I think this is their market and what they are going for. Read Less

Wanted to go through the Panama Canal locks without spending too many days at sea. Perfect for experiencing the operation of the locks. Our prior Viking experiences are with the river cruises. This was even better. The rooms were exceptional, especially the layout of the bathrooms. Food is exceptional, especially Manfredi's, the Italian food and wine, the service could not be better. We enjoyed the experience at the spa, very relaxing. The pool layout and both whirlpool areas made it very accessible and never overcrowded. The staff could not have been more helpful, always available. The wait staff in the dining area was efficient, and always seemed to smile, and recognize you. The ports and excursion, were very well planned, and we actually learned quite a bit about the areas. Entertainment was well presented considering the limitations of a smaller ship The exercise area was well supplied with modern equipment and sufficient treadmills, etc that we had no problem with wait time to use anything. We were interested in sightseeing and learning more about the countries we visited. A variety of lectures and included familiarization tours in each port were great! The Panama canal was spectacular and it was great to have two educational lecturers help narrate the passage. The accommodations were superb, including a heated floor in the bathroom. Our room was serviced several times a day so we never needed anything. Food selections were great and I didn't feel limited on the ship. We chose between the dining room, two specialty restaurants and the buffet, with lots of fresh seafood. On sea days we enjoyed the evening music and entertainment. We sat by the pool to watch a football playoff game on a giant screen. It wasn't part of the preplanned agenda, but people were interested, so Viking provided it. I love the Viking river cruises and have few more of them to do, but will definitely fit in some Viking ocean cruises, too! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the Ports of Call and the Passage in the Panama Canal. The service aboard ship was perfection. We were made to feel a part of the family at the moment we embarked the ship. It was wonderful that all aspects were inclusive and that you could sit in the night club, be asked if you wanted a drink and when you answered no, were not bothered again. They catered to my gluten-free needs as a celiac during all aspects of the trip. Everyone on-board had a smile at all times and you did not feel that it was 'put on' but rather their way of life. The entertainment on-board and lectures given were top notch. Days at sea were never felt to be wasted time. We chose this cruise because we wanted to cruise the Panama Canal and wanted to stay on the Caribbean side and have more ports and less time at sea. We also, really liked Viking riverboats and the fact that Viking works to educate us before and during the cruise about the food, culture and customs of our destinations. We had two lecturers onboard telling us everything about the Panama canal from beginning to present. It was fabulous. When weather kept us from being able to visit 2 of our ports, Viking worked hard to step up and fill our days while at sea. They also did find us an alternate port and provided maps for us to explore on our own. We also love all the different restaurant choices. Mamsens and the Wintergarden tea time restaurants were fun and added to the overall experience. We really liked the variety of music provided in our cabin and of course all the live music in the atrium was much appreciated. We highly recommend Viking for the discerning traveler. Read Less

I thought the itinerary was interesting however we missed 2 stops, with no good explanation. The original brochure said the first stop would be Key West and when we did not stop the staff's answer was that was not part of the itinerary , even after we showed them Viking Brochures that call it out as the first stop.Very poor answer. The second stop we missed they said they did not have a dock available, What? they did not book ahead? This caused the trip to have too many days at sea. Very disappointed. The "customer service" staff was really not friendly and the answer to everything was "thats our policy". Even after I insisted on talking to a manager of client services and she promised after the cruise was over I would get a phone call to handle a credit (for hundreds of $) I have never heard one word from Viking. Many people on board said the very same thing about the customer service staff. Very cold people and they seemed annoyed when you needed something. I don't know if it is the "ocean" devision but this staff could take some lessons from the "river" devision which was wonderful, friendly and could not do enough for you. They should take housekeeping staff and put them in customer service and make the customer service people clean the bathrooms! I really looked forward to this trip and overall it did not make me want to book another Ocean Cruise with Viking. I am not someone who is hard to please and my rave reviews of the river cruise we took with Viking has caused many of my friends to book with them, I can't say that about the Ocean Cruise. The staff makes all the difference and this staff left so much to be desired. As a sales manager myself I found myself wanting to say after every conversation with client services "This is how you really wanted to say what you just said to me" . The ship is beautiful, the food was really good to end on a positive note. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the destinations and the fact that is was a Christmas/New Years cruise. Embarkation and disembarkation in Miami went smoothly. We were told when we booked that we would not stop in Key West because it would be Christmas Day. Several passengers we talked to were upset that Key West was not included and had not been told about the schedule change when they booked. The Viking cruise was interesting.   This was our first Viking cruise. My husband said he felt like he was at Ikea.   There were lots of seating areas.  We enjoyed the included spa (steam room, sauna).   My massage was good and priced competitive with what I've paid on Celebrity.   Food overall was average.  The two specialty restaurants were excellent.    They served a lovely brunch buffet on New Year's Day in the Wintergarden.   The staff was friendly but inefficient.   We heard that a lot of the wait and service staff came on in Miami with us and it was obvious they weren't used to working together.   Service improved a few days into the trip.  Several of the excellent staff members are moving on to the Orion when it launches in early 2018.  Nice to see that Viking recognizes those that do good work.  One of the bar waiters is being promoted when he moves to the Orion.  We talked to several passengers who have been on the Viking Star and they all said it is a better run ship and that the food is good to excellent.  One passenger said the general manager on the Sky should be removed.  He had to teach a bartender how to make a good martini and a sidecar.     All of the entertainment was excellent to outstanding.  We thought Azamara did a much better job with the 2015 New Year's Eve party they threw.   For Christmas "gifts", we received three cookies each in a little bag with a ribbon around it.   Thought that was a little "cheap".  Azamara gave us two lovely Christmas ornaments and the Azamara jewelry store and gave out small Christmas ornaments if you attended their presentation on Christmas day.    The shore excursions (1 included, 3 optional) we took were all good - excellent tour guides, well paced.  However, other passengers were unhappy with the ones they took - especially the included excursions.  We didn't do the included one in Roatan because it was pouring rain. There was a substitute tour but we weren't told that when we cancelled the morning of the tour. We cancelled out of the 4x4 optional excursion in Jamaica because of its difficulty the night before the tour.   It was described as moderate in the write-up but when the Shore Excursion manager described it in his port talk he said it was difficult and over rough terrain.  Viking refunded the entire cost to us even though there was only one person on the wait list. The captain made the decision to not stop at George Town, Cayman Islands.   The weather (wind was over 25 mph) closed the main bay and there were three ships at anchor in the small bay (maximum allowed).  We were only going to be there 6-7 hours and had booked the included tour.  The tender ride would have been almost 30 minutes each way so we weren't upset by not getting into George Town. We booked on the December 2018 From the Caribbean to the Amazon cruise on the Viking Sea. We also booked a river cruise - France's Finest for August 2019. The onboard future cruise discounts and the onboard credit for the Sky cruise helped us make our decision to try Viking again.         Read Less

The cruise hit central america but one day we didn't go to key west because it was xmas. We also missed grand Cayman due to weather conditions although I thought that was a poor excuse since things were not bad from our view. Other cruise lines were able to make port. That was the bad news. As we have experienced in the past, the food, service and entertainment was excellent (although more music variety would have been better). How 'bout a Jazz band? The classical music and piano was nice but put me to sleep. The rooms were clean and comfortable. No kids is a plus and smoking was restricted to a small area which is a major plus for me and our traveling companions. The excursions were good except for the ones that took you to the same market places that sold stuff from china. That was a big turn off. Every vendor sold the same crap. Another tour took us to an unscheduled stop to a chocolate maker instead of the rain forest without notifying anyone. Bad form. The ruins in Belize was great as well as the river trip. Read Less

My husband and I were looking for a holiday cruise, and this looked interesting because not only was it was a new cruise line for us, it was also a new ship, and the cost was surprisingly reasonable for what it offered. This cruise included the airfare, free WiFi, one included tour in each port, wine and beer with lunch and dinner, 2 specialty restaurants, and the type of cabin we prefer. We also liked that we could go in and change our assigned airline seats if we wished, which we did. Our flight left Detroit at 6:30 am on Christmas Eve, so we arrived in Miami in mid morning, and had a fairly long wait before we were transferred to the ship. But the embarkation went smoothly, and our cabin was ready shortly after we arrived, which was one of the bonus' of choosing a Penthouse Jr. Suite. That allowed us to stash our carry-ons and gave us plenty of time to have lunch and explore the ship before our luggage arrived to unpack. The ships is typically Swedish minimalistic decor, but is very soothing and pleasantly relaxing. It is very open throughout, rather than separate rooms for offices and sitting areas. There are an abundance of little lounge areas thoughout the ship in which to sit and read or visit with friends, or nap, or look out the window. All of them have bookshelves with reading material to choose from. The Atrium is 3 stories, surrounded by balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floors with tables and chairs for viewing the first floor where entertainment is provided each evening, alternating with a painist, a trio, and a guitarist. There are several bars throughout the ship , as well as quiet room with comfortable couches, chairs, coffee tables, etc. which becomes a tea room at 4 pm. There is also a Spa, some of which is included in the cruise cost. We did not use it. We were in Cabin 7000, located on Deck 7, which allowed convenient access to the pool area, the breakfast/lunch buffet, and the Explorer's Lounge. The jr. suite was 405 sq.ft, including a nice sized verand, large couch plus two comfortable side chairs and a coffee table. There was plenty of storage and electrical outlets for charging. Our bathroom had dual sinks and a large walk-in shower, heated mirror, heated towel rack, and heated floor. We requested the heated floor be turned off because it became too hot in the bathroom. It was a very comfortable cabin for a 14 day cruise. Aside from the Buffet, there was the main restaurant, with open seating, which served lunch on sea days, but normally served only dinner. It featured several partitioned rooms which lent itself to feeling cozy. And unlike many other cruise ships, there were many tables for two, with a decent separation between them, but close enough to engage in conversation if you wished. In addition there was Manfredi's Italian Restaurant, and The Chef;s Table, which featured international meals, each course served with paired wines. There was also a grill by the pool, and afternoon tea in the Wintergarden Lounge. The Staff were outstanding. They greeted you and remembered your name, and were extremely accommodating in every way. The alcoholic drinks were reasonably priced and the bar gratuity was 15% as opposed to 18% on some cruise lines. Daily tour presentations were excellent, and both included tour offerings and paid tours were quite good, and we were pleased with the ones we chose. However, they never included any information on the ports themselves, such as what to see or do, transportation, shopping areas, etc. if you wanted to explore on your own. I guess they just assumed everyone would be taking tours. The we only went to one evening show, and thought it was amateurish, so didn't attempt any others, aside from the fact that they were usually either at our preferred dinner time or too late for us. Our choice was to listen to the pianist, or see the evening movie at the pool. There was no casino, which I might have enjoyed now and then. We have few complaints, but two stand out. This cruise line requires you to make your final payment 6 months in advance of the trip, where most cruise lines require only 3 months. And at the pool, passengers would save their lounge chairs with personal items or towels, and then roam the ship at will, leaving them empty, but unusable, so that if you didn't get up at the crack of dawn and do the same thing, you could not find an empty lounge chair. I was unhappy to find that the water depth was always 4-1/2 feet, so that with my 5 foot height, I had to tread water or hang on the side, as I could not touch bottom. We have traveled on several different cruise lines in 14 ocean cruises and 3 river boat cruises. All in all, we enjoyed this ship and the cruise, and would very definitely take another cruise with Viking. Read Less

Panama Canal Belize, cost a rica. Columbia, Honduras The Panama Canal was spectacular. The lecturer did an amazing job of of the history , the building, etc of the Canal. The service on the cruise was better than spectacular. Dining was always a five star experience. Between the service , the wait staff, the food the desserts each was better than the other. The down side was the entertainment while at Sea. We needed a bit more than the daily lectures and trivia games and the pool. The retractable roof for the pool and top deck came in handy for those rain storms which Viking could not control. The excursions were decent although on my last Viking cruise were much better organized than on this cruise. The spa , whirlpool, sauna, steam and ice rooms were welcome additions during the day. The most amazing part of Viking cruises is that many of staff seem to remember your names after just meeting you once or twice. A truly great cruise Read Less

I knew I could count on Viking for a great ship with top notch service. The cabin with its veranda was a comfortable and spacious enough space. Going south in December was a draw, and I wanted to go to Mayan ruins. I knew excursions would be well planned and executed. Dining was wonderful. Great food, attentive staff and beautiful surroundings. Something that I loved and took advantage of was high tea at 4 pm. Everything was so well presented and delicious. The entertainment was very professional and delightful. These young men and women are more than equal to the task. I’ve been to many musicals on Broadway and these musicians could be on Broadway too. It was my first ocean cruise and Viking gets another A. I wasn’t able to take advantage of getting a massage in the spa because I hadn’t booked ahead. I wanted to get a feel for the cruise before booking. Not wise. I’d recommend doing that before boarding. Read Less

We Loved our Viking River Cruise in Germany on the Elbe river. When the anouncment of the ocean cruise vessels with less than 1000 passengers became available it was an allure we had to try. The Viking Sky is a beautiful ship with spacious cabins including a veranda, and great dining variety with attention to individual dietary needs. The service of all staff in all areas were excellent. Shore personnel were informative and enthusiastic. Self laundry available with washing supplies free, great for packing less. One of our overall favorite activities was the lectures given by experienced professionals on topics from climate change, space exploration and the world of our whales and dolphins. The port talks are interesting and informative down to the latest expected whether conditions. You will totally enjoy the entertainment they as talented as any we have seen on Broadway from Opera to ABBA. All in all our travel embarkation and disembarkation was flawless. We did not travel with children nor did we see any on board. This was the perfect adult journey we for looking forward too. We had a wonderful time even during the rain. Read Less

NEVER cruised Viking before. The Sky was a new ship, the online reviews were tops, AND we got a great deal. The pre-cruise was wonderful at the Hilton. The staff on board the Sky was over-the-top, and the food aboard was fab - especially Chef's Table and Manfredi's. The ship itself is a dream come true. The cabin is/was laid out very well - plenty of room for luggage, etc. I mean, even the bathroom with its MONSTROUS shower and heated floor was an unexpected pleasure. Celebrity, Azamara, and Holland do NOT have those features (we're multi-starred on all those ships). The ports of call were all good except Green Hole, Roatan Island - rain kept us from our scheduled garden/park tour. A visit to a chocolate factory was something we could do without. Last, the Viking Band AND the lovely three-gal trio were terrific. The Mrs. and I danced to the band most nights AND we listened to wonderful classical music before and after dining. A big WOW for a wonderful cruise - matter of fact, we just booked the Viking Sea for more fun, laughs, and good times next month. Good job, Viking. Seeya soon! Tad & Melinda Read Less
