Beautiful Boat but So-So Locations

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Zhao Shang Yi Dun (Viking Sun)

We had done a Viking River Cruise and we were looking for a Viking cruise close-by. We drove down from Orlando, everything went well getting on board and of course the customer service was wonderful. The entertainment was also surprisingly good. What it was lacking was: 1)variety at the locations/islands, like an included day at the beach would have been nice, the 3 included tours were all of ...

Review for a Cuba Cruise on Viking Star

I’m currently on a 21 day Cuba, Panama and the Pacific Cruise on the Viking Star. This is our 5th cruise, we have been on Celebrity Infinity and Reflection, Crystal Symphony and a Uniworld river cruise. The Viking Star is nice but lacks some of the luxury touches found on other ships in this rather expensive price range. Perhaps I prefer a different design aesthetic. We are in a Penthouse ...

Cruise to Cuba

Review for a Cuba Cruise on Viking Star

We enjoyed a previous Viking Ocean cruise and wanted to see Cuba. The major drawback was that the ship did not dock in Havana. There was a 12 hour, rather expensive, excursion into Havana. We enjoyed that excursion but thought that it should have been an 'included' excursion since most people visiting Cuba want to see Havana. Both ports required 'tendering' so this cruise isn't for the ...

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Viking Sky

Many of my objections are more than likely unique to this cruise. For 7 sea days straight the seas were choppy (we had to skip Iles du Salut because it was too choppy for the tenders) and we rocked and rolled. I have been on smaller ships with choppy conditions and they just must have had better stabilizers as it wasn't nearly the problem. As to dining it was most tasty only problem was I was ...

Just okay

We were passengers on the Viking Sky last week. We were trying this for a first time. We normally cruise with Holland America. While the cruise was "okay", we'll be staying with Holland America. The ship is very new so everything was fresh and bright. We like to watch movies in theater on sea days - there were no movies on sea days. There was a movie at night on the large screen by the ...

Chose it for the Scandinavian influence, and the architecture. Were so happy with the architecture, the spa, the therapy pool, snow room, art. Were disappointed in the embarkation, mainly the lack of information about what was going to happen. The meals/food were wonderful. The service was outstanding. However, there was no explanation for to telling us the next steps for embarkation ahead of ...

I thought the itinerary was interesting however we missed 2 stops, with no good explanation. The original brochure said the first stop would be Key West and when we did not stop the staff's answer was that was not part of the itinerary , even after we showed them Viking Brochures that call it out as the first stop.Very poor answer. The second stop we missed they said they did not have a dock ...

Impeccable ship and service, weird main pool but great infinity(?) pool in rear

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Viking Sky

Very new ship, luxuriously appointed. Staff service is superb. Rear of ship with a pool that has a glass rear side view of water is great; they call it "infinity pool" but it's not what I think is an infinity pool. The main pool is very weird and small. Cabins are nice and modern. I think the atmosphere is what I would call an attempt to be very sophisticated and snobbish which is not my cup of ...

Review for a Cuba Cruise on Zhao Shang Yi Dun (Viking Sun)

The Viking Sun is a beautifully designed ship. It is a combination of class and simplicity. Even with 900 plus passengers on board we found few occasions where crowding was a problem. The port selection was very good. Although we had been around the world two years earlier, there were a lot of ports we had not visited. We loved seeing the pyramids, Shanghai, Sydney and Singapore just to ...
