We chose this cruise because we have always wanted to see Iceland and wanted to go back to Bergen. So this was the perfect cruise for us. This itinerary was perfect as we got to visit Greenland, Newfoundland and Canada. We have been to Antarctica so this was our chance to go to the Artic Circle. The service from the staff was great especially our cabin stewards and Ronald our waiter at Dinner. Every night at dinner he would go over the menu and discuss each dish by telling us what was in the dish and how it was prepared. We especially enjoyed the talks given on the Human Planet. What beautiful pictures and very interesting about how the photography was done. The excursions were very interesting to visit some of the old Viking villages to see how they lived. Also got to see a replica of an old Viking ship. Couldn't image how the survived in those boats. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we love cruising. We find this way of travelling very relaxing and at the same time interesting. You can visit many cities and have a general idea of all the places the ship stop. The ship has all you need to have a fantastic vacation time. We never have to wait for a table to eat. The restaurants, all of them are amazing. The chef Ivan, from Chile took really good care of us. He showed as the kitchen and we were surprised how everything was being prepare for each meal in all of the restaurants. The cabin was very comfortable, as well as the bed and pillows, but the best part in the cabin was the bathroom. Really big for a ship bath with warm floor. They have service twice a day to keep the cabin always tidy and clean. We love the entertainment, the 4 young vocalists were exceptional, same as the pianists and the 2 girls who played stringed instruments. We only were sad because the ship couldn't stop in Poland port due to weather conditions. The excursions were very interesting same as the guides, specially Helen in Saint Petersburg. We did some included excursions and some prepaid ones. We already booked a future trip to Egypt in a Viking river for 2021. We recommend the pre and post cruise extensions, both great options, we enjoyed them a lot. We value very much; the quality of service Viking has. Although we did many other cruises with other companies, this last one was overall the best ever. Thanks Viking crew and everyone on the ship for a great experience and a phenomenal vacation. We wanted to start with an ocean cruise that brought us to countries we had not been too before. Norway was amazing and the stops we made along the start of this trip were truly memorable. We did do some of the "optional" tours along the way and some of the "included" tours were also quite good! The restaurant experiences (food, seating, service, etc) were quite an experience, as everyone seemed to want two help and be a part of our experience! The Fitness Center was perfect, never too crowded and my wife's facial and both our massages were among the best ever! Our room was very comfortable and the staff (Clark and Ameline) were great as far as extra water, coffee, etc. Enjoyed the Explorers Lounge as it was close to our room and got us out and relaxing a bit! There was only one thing that I would not do again...the Malmouse Castle was boring (Baron ?) and we unfortunately had a couple from New York, who seemed to know more than the "Baron" and constantly interrupted his long-winded description of the "castle". The soup was not that great and the organic beer was less than enjoyable! Now, overall, this experience did nothing to dampen the great time we had as we enjoyed everything else on our trip and have booked the Ageatic Cruise for next year and have no qualms about going and enjoying! Thank you! Read Less

My sister recommend it. She had done a River Cruise and wanted try this one. She loved them both. The cruise included my three sisters and I. We felt so spoiled the whole time. The staff were always so sweet, courteous and efficient with good sense of humors and memorized our names wherever they would see us. The food and drink was amazing, so many delicious options. The entertainment was great. The band in the lounge were so talented and fun and the cover ABBA group were incredible. The ship was always so clean and spot less, our cabins were always kept up and clean and well stocked. We went on quite a few excursions, which were amazing and there were so many great options to choose from. This was a trip of a life time and I would do it again in a heartbeat, especially with my lovely fun beautiful sisters!! Thank you Viking Star!! Read Less

We chose Viking because of the small ship. All of our other cruises have been on large cruise ships and we are tired of those. We lived in Europe for two years so we weren’t interested in any of the River Cruises you offered as we have already toured those areas. We had not been to Italy so that was why we chose this cruise. We were so pleased with all of the staff on this cruise. From the cabin staff to the bar staff, they were all wonderful. We ate most meals at the World Cafe because we did not realize you had to make reservations so far in advance for the speciality restaurants. I would have liked to have had a more varied restaurant choice. The World Cafe was good but I do not liking eating at buffets, so it was not a good dining experience for me. I am also a vegetarian and there were not a lot of vegetarian dishes at the buffet. We would love to do a Viking Cruise to Scotland. Do you have any of those planned in the future? Read Less

Everything (ship amenities, food, shore excursions, service people, entrainment) on the Viking Jupitor was absolutely great and wonderful. The biggest concern I had going on this cruise was eating the food as I am gluten free. The was all labeled and I did not have a problem feeling ill. The restaurant supervisor was excellent and went out of his way to make sure I was happy with the food. On the second day at dinner, I asked if they had gluten free brownies and sure enough couple of days later, i had gluten free brownies with ice cream for desert. On the shore excursion tours, the tour guides were very knowledgeable and provided excellent tours. Having the wireless earphones was great. You didn't have to crowd around the tour guide to hear. You could hear the tour guide 20 feet away. Heather Clancy was an excellent cruise director and Javier Rodriguez did a great job telling us about the shore excursions. We liked the ports of Norway the best, then Stockholm. St Petersburg was good, but is was so crowed with tourists. We really liked the St Petersburg Ballet. Great wonderful cruise. Read Less

We celebrated our 45th and wanted the best for this event. Great cabin and fabulous cabin stewards. The entertainers were awesome, especially Matthew. Bartenders were total service and personable, especially Carlos and CJay. Interesting excursions and we had a wonderful time in each port. The food!!! Oh my, we didn't have anything that wasn't fantastic. My husband was especially happy about the Alaskan King crab legs, we went for those, then went for a drink At the Explorer's Lounge for drinks, then to dinner. Our favorite dinner was the Chef's table Mexican night. Loved Ivan for wine and Mario for service! The spa was wonderful and we ended up getting massages which is just what we needed after all the excursions. Excellent masseuses! Cruise director, she was amazing. "See you around the ship." We choose this cruise because the Viking Jupiter was a new smaller ship that offered many things, such as shore excursions, beer and wine with meals, internet and specialty restaurants, that were included with the base price. In addition, the itinerary offered many countries and ports that we had not visited before. The crew was very friendly and eager to serve. It was a most positive atmosphere. The entertainment and cultural lectures were most enjoyable Our cabin accommodations were exceptional. Little things such as heated floor in the bathroom, a mirror that did not steam up and a roomy shower made the cabin like home. Show excursions were well planned and the guides were very knowledgeable. Food on board was above average and the service was impeccable. We liked the fact that no passenger was under 18 years old. We definitely will book another Viking Ocean Cruise in the future. Read Less

This was our third consecutive, annual cruise with Viking. Having enjoyed several of their river cruises, we decided upon an ocean voyage this year, in part because we were taking our two "under 30" ages kids. Viking ocean cruises offer more onboard than do their river going sisters and thought the additional options would be more suited to their interests than the rather sedate life on a river cruise. As we expected, the cruise was wonderful and one all of us will always remember. The itinerary was selected for its historical and cultural value. The ship embarked in Athens, but, since Viking offers no excursions before boarding, we booked a private company to pick us up at the airport, provide us with a personalized tour, and deliver us to the ship in time to sail. Regrettably, flight delays caused us to miss the (expensive) Athens tour and almost the ship itself. Although the flight delays were no fault of Viking, Viking imposes a financial "penalty" for guests who plan their flights through their air department and wish to fly in on any date OTHER than day of embarkation. This really cuts time very, very short, with little allowance for flight delays. For some absurd reason, Viking charges $100. extra, per guest, if they choose to fly in a day early and avoid the type of grief we experienced. Why they feel this cost is justified is beyond our comprehension. First, the customer saves Viking the need to provide an airport transfer to the ship. The customer purchases their own transportation, hotel, entertainment, food and beverage. It costs Viking nothing and actually save them time and trouble. I'm still annoyed with this policy as it affecting our next cruise plans with Viking. Once aboard, everything was delightful. The food was exceptional. Excellent variety and selections, fresh, beautifully presented and prepared with an expert hand. Since we are wine enthusiasts, we always purchase the Silver Spirits package as a convenience. It is actually quite a bargain. The wine list was adequate and far from legendary.Nevertheless, the Sky's sommelier, Roman, was delightful and went to extra effort to make suggestions and recommendations. Our waiters and the hostess always recognized us and called us by name! Our cabin steward, Edy, was equally fantastic. He could not have been more friendly, helpful, attentive and thorough. Always at the ready to assist in any way possible, including remembering my cabin number when I forgot it the first couple of days. If you are looking for a cruise with non-stop entertainment, Viking is not for you. We choose Viking specifically for that reason. No casinos, no guests under 18, no ambitious broadway shows, rock-climbing walls or on-board surfing. Viking caters to a different demographic. In the case of the Sky, guests could enjoy several pools and jacuzzi's, a heavenly spa facility too impressive for me to describe here (it has a "snow-room", if you can imagine), a full gym, and outdoor exercise and sports options (putting green, shuffleboard). Plenty to occupy one's interests when not ashore. We have always found Viking to provide exceptional shore excursions. The guides are very knowledgeable and, with few exceptions, quite amenable, enthusiastic and helpful. We did, however, experience quite a bit of unhappiness and discomfort on the 5 hour optional excursion to Krka National Park. The park itself was spectacular and well worth the time. The problems occurred when the guide seemed to underestimate the time required for many "older folks" to walk across narrow bridges or pathways. Secondly, the bus driver became completely lost on the way back to the ship. This confusion added two hours of unhappiness, which became more and more pronounced as time ticked on. Guests were unhappy, and the bus driver and guide swearing at each other! The final problem, and very upsetting to us, was the communication (not) provided by the Viking representative at the Hotel Molino Stucky where we stayed during our three day post-cruise extension in Venice. Poor communication caused us great confusion, grief and some money. When this fact was brought to her attention, she became very hostile and defensive. Rather than simply say " sorry for the misunderstanding", she thought it better to pursue an argument. She was truly the only completely rude Viking employee we have ever experienced. Embarcation and disembarkation are non-events with Viking. Quick, simple, no lines, no confusion. So, all in all, a great trip. We forgive Viking the glitches and will be repeat guests. Off to the Nile in 2020! Read Less

This was the second cruise our family had taken (first with Viking). We included Viking in the list of cruise lines we were considering based on reputation and references, and picked the cruise because the itinerary appealed to both parents and late teen/20s children. The cruise exceeded our expectations in almost every way. The Viking team was very welcoming (how they all knew our names so fast ...), the ship itself was very nice - especially the cabins (although we really only had one other experience - which was also quite nice - but these were better) The only drawback was some of the excursions were a little bit disorganized timing wise. This was not due to the Viking employees who were generally fantastic, but some of the local partners and in particular the timing of the various excursions wasn’t always planned well. One example was multiple buses being at the same location for lunch so that there was a wait for the second to arrive. But in sum - highly recommend the cruise! Read Less

Our granddaughter choose Iceland. This was her graduation trip. We were surprised at how much we enjoyed it. Not the cruise itself but the locations; Norway, Faroe Islands and Iceland. Incredibly beautiful! Interesting history. The cruise was awesome. This was our 2nd Viking cruise. The first being a river cruise. The Grand European cruise. Both are world class. Viking is upscale luxury. Not for young families, as there is a age limit. The ships are smaller with only 900 passengers, so it makes the cruise so much enjoyable. The staff are the best! Very friendly and accommodating. Whatever you need. The tours, both included and optional, give you whatever your looking for at each port. History, adventures, sightseeing, shopping or culinary. Really we can't say enough about how happy we are with Viking. They make cruising easy. They take care of everything. We will be taking another cruise, there are so many awesome places to see . With daughter and son-in-law to celebrate birthdays and anniversary. Daughter has serious food issues, and the crew took fabulous care of her. The food is good, especially liked the buffets. The chef made several beautiful chocolate cakes for us. The ship is beautiful, and different from other ships we have been on. We loved our cabin, a penthouse suite. Loved the double sinks and large shower. The bed was wonderful. Enjoyed the planetarium shows, a unique feature. Enjoyed the shore excursions, but especially enjoyed sitting and reading in the afternoons. Since the was an inland passage crude, the view were wonderful. The onboard lectures were always top notch and very interesting and informative. ON the minus side, one night our Halibut was way over cooked, but that was just one occasion. The embarkation could not have been smoother. We also loved the public entertainment - very talented people. We would definitely sail again with Viking. PS loved the bird sounds in public bathrooms. We joined my brother Mike Martin, his wife Sherry on this cruise. My brother had wanted to sail the Inside Passage on an Alaskan cruise. My husband and I had cruised to Alaska on two other occasions but enjoyed it so much that we were glad to go again. The embarkation went smoothly. I was glad we didn't have to wait to board ship when we arrived at the dock. For desembarkation I suggest that passengers be made aware that they can wait onboard until their color group is called My cabin review is below. Our dining experience was excellent due to the expertise of the kitchen staff. The consistently provided us delicious meals. The wait staff were always very friendly and attentive to our needs. We thoroughly enjoyed the Orion Vocalists performances, especially the ABBA Songbook and the Beatles Songbook. We also very much enjoyed the Viking Classical Duo performance of Movie Magic. We enjoyed our shore excursions especially the Kenai Fjords by boat near Seward, the Columbia Glacier Cruise near Valdez and the Potlach Totem Park near Ketchikan. Read Less

I choose the Mediterranean Ocean cruise to take my mother to the Vatican and Europe for the first time. We enjoyed the wine at lunch and dinber and the restaurant and in room dining options on the Viking Star. Our steward room service was wonderful, the bartenders were very friendly and most all the staff fantastic. We also enjoyed the excursions and itinerary for the the ports in Italy, France and Spain. Sete was lovely, Monaco was fun and we needed more time in Barcelona. We even had time to watch one movie under the stars and the lounge band for dancing was so much fun. We wanted an anniversary cruise, and had hoped to book one of the cruises Athens to Venice. The problem seemed to be that every thing was already booked. I had spoken with Roland, and then emailed him some choices for 2019. It seemed doubtful. Then a call from Roland that two rooms (4035 and 5051) became available, departing Athens on June 27, putting us in Dubrovnik on our July 1st Anniversary! Not only that but the rooms were on the starboard side, which was exactly what we wanted sailing north. We: my husband, our son, our daughter-in-law and myself arrived in Athens a day early and thoroughly enjoyed it. In the past, we usually traveled by train, but thought it would be too taxing for my husband. After a great deal of research, we found Viking. From the moment we boarded the ship, we were blown away. Everything was more than perfect! My husband had a great deal of special dietary needs; he had an amazing person who looked after him every day, giving him menus a day ahead, checking various items, answering questions, etc. Wonderful! The two individuals (4035 & 5051) who looked after our rooms were amazing, friendly and hard working. We enjoyed talking with them each day as well! The restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly; we hugged them goodbye. Our son, a Meteorologist, enjoyed conversations with the cruise director too! We enjoyed everything! Our son and daughter-in-law loved it as much as we did! The ship was beautiful and never seemed crowded. We had an early morning breakfast on deck going into Kotor. We were on deck with special drinks given out as we arrived in Venice; the views were unbelievable! There were shuttle buses to take us in and out of the cities; some ports were close enough to simply walk. I had read the Durrells of Corfu and thoroughly enjoyed my time in Corfu. We ate in Manfredi’s for our anniversary, complete with a very special anniversary cake. Our cruise: unforgettable! Read Less

You were presented with an unlimited number of choices and each was delicious as the next. The specially restaurants were even better and did not cost any extra. Beer or wine were free at lunch and dinner. The lounge areas were beautiful as was the live music every evening. The staff were great and greeted you with a smile and by name. We took advantage of included and optional excursions that gave us the trip of a life time. Having been a loyal customer of another cruise line, but having recently enjoyed the Viking River Cruise experience, we gambled and took our 1st cruise with Viking Ocean. What a GREAT Decision. Viking ticks all the boxes for us. No photographers chasing us around the ship, no formal nights and no wasted ship space for a gambling area. The smaller ship with fewer guests was a welcome change and the enrichment lectures exceeded our expectations. Lots of space on the Sky for just sitting alone and taking in the view. The quality of the interior of the ship was just 1st class! Regarding the food, the lunches and dinners were well done (the breakfast were so similar that I would call this an area for improvement). The Sparkling Wine & Glasses delivered to our room on our 25th Anniversary was a surprise! With the exception of one photography tour in Iceland, all the shore excursions were well enjoyed by my wife and I. Although the cost of the cruise sounded high initially, when you factor in all the included excursions, alcohol at lunch/dinner, free bottled water, and all the other extras, we felt this cost was probably equal to or less than our past cruise line. We have been on other cruise lines which have been wonderful too but Viking is top of the line 5 stars all the way. We stayed an extra two days in Italy and that was so good too! Again, they do everything they can to make transitioning off the ship to the hotel easy and delightful, and, to get safely and timely to the airport for travel home. This was our second Viking Cruise. Loved it the first time we cruised with Viking Sea; all went according to what we paid for and what we got. Our Penthouse Junior Suite (PJS 8007) was what we asked for and that was exactly what we got. Based upon this positive experience, we booked a second cruise to New Zealand and Australia. We elected to add a pre-cruise extension in Auckland and love the vitality of the city. The hotel assignment offered comfortable rooms conveniently located to the city's highlights. The cruise lasted about 3 weeks and made all stops as per the itinerary. The ship handled very rough seas fairly well, and the ship's common areas were as advertised on the website. There were many "at sea" days. Meals in the dining venues allowed for decent variety. The restaurants are the same ones on all the ocean ships and, at Manfredi's, we saw the same things on the menu as we'd seen on the Viking Sun. Breakfast in the World Cafe offered a good variety. We saw one or two shows while on board. The Aboriginal show the last night was quite good. Some of the lecturers were outstanding and it was nice to be able to watch them in our room when we were not able to attend the lectures. The crew were helpful and performed their jobs well. There was not enough time in ports to really enjoy the areas. We would have liked more free time. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The Viking Orion is identical to any of the other Viking Ocean ships which made the entire experience very predictable. Our room was horrible. Our Viking Agent concealed from us that we were assigned one of the two "handicapped' rooms (room 6020) and we only learned about our room assignment until the day before departure. This handicapped room is grossly misrepresented as a Penthouse Junior Suite room. Viking's website contains not so much as one photo for this inadequate room (there are only 2 handicapped cabins on the entire ship). If someone needs wheelchair access, then 6020 or 6021 are the rooms to book. Otherwise, the access to the cabin's deck posed a serious tripping hazard. Furthermore, the room configuration further reduces any usable interior space. Our room had no sitting room (like every other room on the entire ship besides room 6021) and we needed to sit on the bed to watch TV. We needed to bring in the table from the deck whereas all other rooms actually had a coffee table, etc. Viking advertises this "handicapped room" (rooms 6020 and 6021) as consisting of 405 sf. but it is not. We measured the suite and deck; our suite 6020 fell so far short of 405 sq as to make this a case for a serious misrepresentation. The General Manager of our cruise wrote to Viking's head office telling them "we have had complaints with this room in the past" (so Viking had already known about previous problems with these rooms) when we told him about our concerns. He told us Viking would only deal with us when we returned home. Which they did. Just as an aside (and a heads-up), unhappy travelers who decide to settle their claims with Viking are required, by Viking, to sign a non-disclosure agreement with Viking that prohibits us travelers from saying anything negative about Viking or talking about our experiences. Ever. Go through a travel agent. Protect yourself and your investment. Your own personal travel agent is interested in having "you" return as a future customer to whom they will sell future travel business. We also have an official BBB claim in progress against Viking (with photos). Variety is the spice of life. There is little or no variety here. And the more ships Viking adds, the greater is the impact on quality control. One of the two main elevators did not function for the entire duration of our cruise. The main oven in the restaurant did not operate properly one night and the raw fish for dinner was apologized for with free bottles of wine sent to rooms of all those who dined there. The room greatly impacted our ability to enjoy the cruise. Read Less

Main reason for choosing this cruise was the itinerary and length of cruise. First the good points. A great airy and spacious ship, never felt crowded, all crew were excellent, the cruise director Jenna and her assistant very good !!.Food very good, buffet excellent (despited two/three days of G.I onboard meant highlighted hand washing and non serving yourself !) free internet good and speedy, spar (altho closed during GI) was excellent.Cabin altho smaller than expected was kept spotless by excellent steward and helper.24 hr cabin service very good and used !!! Not so good. Welcome at airport by cruise staff was poor and not well organised, they did'nt seem to know what to do and we were kept waiting for over 30 mins,When finally got to the ship no welcoming drink (after 24 hrs travelling ) and no direction where your cabin was,on other cruises i've been on both were provided (hope Viking read this !!) Service at speciality restaurant manfredis, was dire and we walked out, waited 40 mins for appetiser which never came, when I asked why the wait ? server laughed at me !! on walking out the manager was spoken to by me and he offered no reason other than bluster, contacted me the following night to explain they were having problems with the kitchen, pity he did'nt say that in the first place, felt like a poor excuse !! never went near the place, very disappointing, spoiled an evening,DIRE !! Included tours were all the same 2/3 hr run round mostly the same islands on poor transport,on very poor roads. Did three optional tours ,two whale watching which were very good as we saw whales !!,third one on St Kitts railway a complete waste of money and time, saw three bridges !!! and lots of grass, and some chap shouting at us for 2 hrs . For what I consider a expensive cruise I did'nt think I had value for money and will hesitate to use VIKING AGAIN. Read Less
