Selected this cruise because of the amazing places it went that I never thought I would see—Athens, Croatia, Montenegro, and ending up in Venice. The Acropolis in Athens was a hard climb but so worth it in the end. The views from the top are wonderful. Visit to Olympia to see original site of first Olympic Games was interesting to see. Corfu was a very pretty coastal town. Dubrovnik and Split Croatia were great places to see and explore. But they were not as beautiful as Kotor Montenegro. That is such a gorgeous entrance into port and still a quaint town. Did an excursion up out of town, and even with a cloudy day, the views of town and harbor were wonderful. And stopped at small family run restaurant for included typical lunch with a sample shot or Grappa, which if very strong liquor. Then it was my dream stop of Venice! The sail into the city is very cool. The city itself with no cars and all travel by boat or on foot was as amazing as I had hoped for. St Mark’s Square and the Doge Palace are beautiful, but crowded. My favorite thing to do in Venice was to just wander the n narrow streets and visiting little shops, enjoying a coffee and hot chocolate sitting in a quaint square, and having lunch at a small family restaurant. Viking once again did a great job. Penthouse Veranda cabin very nice with lots of storage. Fridge in room with included minibar drinks is nice when you want to relax on Veranda and have a drink. Included excursions are really good, especially since ship pulls right up to cities to visit, much like a river cruise does. Loved that because I could explore on my own and then walk back to ship. Plenty of great food, especially the king crab legs each night, and varied entertainment venues. Loved the 3D Explorer Dome show. What a dream vacation. Read Less

It was our 25th Anniversary and we wanted something special. We had heard great reviews about Viking Cruises and they lived up to all of it. We stayed 4 days in Venice to visit relatives prior to the cruise. Embarkation and Disembarkation were VERY smooth. We did not wait like we have in the past on other cruise lines. Ports and shore excursions were very good! We really enjoyed the fact we had extra time to do shopping or sightseeing on our own in most of the ports. Our cabin was perfect! We loved the space and king size bed! The Orion was new in 2018 and you could tell! Clean and comfortable! It was very cozy to lie on the deck or in the Explorer's Lounges with cozy blankets and amazing views. The staff really paid personal attention to us! Entertainment was good- band and Pablo but ended early. The Viking Spa and Bathing experience was also amazing! However we really did not discover it until last couple days. The welcome aboard with champagne and cool cloths was very refreshing especially since the temperatures were in the 90's! Read Less

Viking is a premium line, offering food and amenities that are a step above the main lines. We have sailed with Princess, HA, X multiple times and enjoy, but Oceania and Viking are our current first choices. Star is a lovely ship, very clean and well maintained. Lots of folks talk about heated floor in the bathroom .. sounds like a minor thing, but it is really nice and makes a difference! This attention to details is what is great about Viking. Overall, we like the food and restaurant selections a bit better on Oceania, but Viking in MDR was very good, and many meals were excellent. We generally prefer formal dining at large tables on Princess and HA .. Viking is personal choice for dining, but tables for two are close to each other and friendly passengers make the experience similar and nice. We found "included" wine selection to be good enough. Included wines rotate each night to pair with menu, but we were always able to also get one of the choices from early in cruise that we liked - just ask.... We are most often on larger ships, and like cruising for ship time and sea days to relax. For first timers on Viking ... get ready, as they are much more "work" than typical main lines! Included tours were overall good, and you'll have a tour every day. This is part of the Viking experience, so don't pass it up. One tip .. included tours will have multiple groups with random assignments, and are identified (sign the guide carries) by the channel number on voicebox. If you're not fully thrilled with your guide, and see another group near by, then tune into their channel and see if you might like that guide and their descriptions better ... then you can wander over and switch it up. Ports in the Adriatic are all very interesting for history, and all are focused around the port areas. Be sure to do an in-depth (optional or private) tour in Athens to really experience the Parthenon and museum. We disembarked in Venice and stayed couple of additional days - arrangements thru Viking were good. We signed up for couple of different Venice Free Walking Tours (google it) which were great ... tour guides are often art students who take you around to places more off the beaten path, and can give you more of an insider perspective about life in the beautiful (and crowded!) city. Only cost is tip at the end... Viking air arrangements and support were good - we were pleased. Delay in outbound Austin-London leg for departure would have been a big problem ... British Air was completely unhelpful ... one of the supervisors at Viking support was able to get BA to re-ticket us correctly with alternative itinerary ... yea! Be sure to try afternoon tea onboard in the atrium at least once or couple of times .. it is quite nice! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of it's itinerary. On the cruise, we could visit cities in five countries along the Adriatic and Aegean Seas. We were disappointed when we could not get into Koper, Slovenia and Viking did not offer any compensation. We did take the pre-cruise excursion in Tuscany and it might have been our favorite part. Beautiful villa accommodation and wonderful tours and dining in Florence, Siena and San Gimignano. Our third trip to Florence and we never tire of the beauty and history. Our time aboard the ship was very comfortable. Stateroom was comfortable and crew was very accommodating. We would prefer more entertainment in the evenings other than music in the bars. Other cruises have offered a variety of shows in the large theaters each night. Dining and service was exceptional. We made reservation in two alternative dining rooms and thoroughly enjoyed the small dining experience. We both like walking tours and mostly took these, they give you lots of free time to explore on your own. Viking's policy to not charge for beer, wine, speciality coffee, teas, etc is a welcome change from other cruise lines. Even tho we paid for it up front, I'm sure, did not have to deal with room key, etc to pay for any of these extras. We have taken three Viking Riverboat cruises and numerous other cruise line's ocean cruises. This was our first Viking Ocean cruise and were not disappointed in the ship or service. But we so enjoy riverboat cruises, probably will do those in the future. We did have one big glitch in our flight home, that involved missed flight, having to rebook in Zurich and while boarding in Chicago, were told we did not have a ticket. Our luggage was ticketed and boarding passes were issues all the way to Memphis, but we were not on the manifest. We had to purchase tickets at the gate. After filing claim with Trip Mate and having it denied, Viking did issue a full refund. We will travel with Viking again, but might be a little hesitant booking air with them. Read Less

Previous Viking cruise was great so we tried them again, and once again it was great. From Venice to Athens with stops in Split, Kotar, Dubrovhik and Corfu before reaching Athens. Included shore excursions were excellent and the optional ones were well worth the cost. The effeiciency of the crew in handling embarking and disembarking is top notch. The dining options are all excellent and the staff, service and food are worthy of a fine restaurant. The spa provides excellent service at a reasonable price. The entertainment options are so varied that we could not sample them all, but those we did were very entertaining. The enrichment lectures greatly add to the enjoyment of experiencing the different towns, cities and countries. The nightly Port Talks really help orient you for the following day, and if you miss one you can watch it on your room TV later that evening. The only thing I can add is that my wife and I have already booked Viking Cruises fro 2018 and 2019. Read Less

I travel with a small group of people. We choose this trip because we hadn't been to many of the destinations before. Although I had taken 3 Viking River Cruises before, this was my first ocean cruise with them. The Sky was luxurious. There were so many places on the ship that you could go to relax. My favortie ended up being on the sun deck especially when we would leave each afternoon. We visited Greece (Athens, Santorini, Katakolon,Corfu), Dubrovnik, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, and Venice. Each destination was beautiful and welcoming, especially the Greek isle of Santorini. The excursions were perfect for each country so you could get a feel for the people and the landscape. There were many extra excursions you could sign up for each day which were more specialized. Our guides were very interesting and provided a running diatribe as we viewed the various sights. One even included the local favorite alcoholic drink. My cabin included a balcony (all do) and we were able to open all three balconies while in port so we could sit and view the gorgeous scenery while sipping wine. The food on board was delicious in the main dining room, but you also had specialty restaurants, a tea room, various lounges and bars. They had tons of entertainment from dancing to various musicians and shows to see. We were so tired at night that we generally had a nightcap and went off to bed. The cabin was beautifully decorated and always tidied up every time we left. Having the cabin to myself was so relaxing. I always had a pot of coffee delivered to me each morning at 6 am. Yummy! Every morning I would walk around the top deck and then go to breakfast. I was not uncomfortable being by myself. Every Viking employee made me feel so welcomed. I loved going up to the Explorer's Lounge at the front of the ship and Stoyan would be waiting for me and make me the most delicious drink. Sometime the others would join me, but I always met the most delightful people to talk with every night. I LOVE traveling with Viking. I have reserved 2 more trips for 2018. I am taking two river trips next year to Holland, Belgium, and southern France. Can't wait!! Read Less

I had cruised the maiden voyage of the Viking Star in 2015 and was excited to sail on her again, with this Venice-Athens cruise. The ship is amazing, the crew is superb, the dining choices excellent, and guides are great. The Penthouse Veranda cabin is roomy and well-appointed. The ports and excursions are handled well, allowing time for exploring the wonders of the regions visited. Unbelievable sites from 700 BC were mind-boggling. We did the 4-day extension in Athens and are so glad we did. It enabled us to delve more deeply into all the historic sites in the area. Climbing to the Parthenon, traveling to explore the Peloponnese Peninsula, and going to Delphi to ascend to the Temple of Apollo were all memorable excursions. We had a free day in Athens and were able to use the Metro to travel to the Plaka District for some shopping. It was a seamless cruise and I would highly recommend Viking Ocean Cruises to anyone wishing to experience travel at it's best. Read Less

We chose this cruise as an appropriate addition to a week of touring northern Italy. We had taken a Viking River Cruise on the Danube the prior summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. So we figured that the next logical step would be a Viking Ocean Cruise. Little did we know how spectacular it would be. The ship itself was sparklingly new and fresh, with every amenity that we could wish. Our cabin was spacious and incredibly well designed, with plenty of room for storage. The selection of dining options was almost overwhelming, with everything from informal and casual to more formal and "fancy" and everything in between. We tried them all and were never disappointed with the selection and quality. The food was simply outstanding! Entertainment was delightful, with mostly on-board entertainers of top quality. Very enjoyable! Most important of all was the crew. In every respect, we were impressed by ship staff, dining staff, cabin crew, and on and on. All were friendly, helpful, courteous and generally likable. I can't say enough about them, from captain to housekeeper. Lastly, the shore excursions were flawlessly planned with knowledgeable and friendly guides and impeccable timing. My wife and I are already planning our next Viking Ocean Cruise. The hardest part is choosing which one! Read Less

We had never been on an ocean cruise, but had used Viking for our first river cruise. We liked that the ship was smaller than most ocean cruises, and we loved the experience we had on the river cruise. So this was our first and before the cruise was over, we signed up for another cruise! The food was outstanding no matter where we ate. The staff was amazing, and were always polite, went out of their to help us, and were very engaging and pleasant! We grew attached to many. Our room was amazingly roomy and well laid out. It was larger than the river cruise room, and we had additional amenities. There was a place designed for EVERYTHING in the room. LOVED it! The entertainment, activities, and shore excursions were first rate. We went to every evening show, and then often went on to the ship bar for more music and dancing. The excursions were very organized every day, and the guides were engaging, knowledgeable, used humor in their tours, and seemed to be very pleased with their jobs. Even though there were 900 people on the ship, we never felt crowded and there were always quiet places to sit and read, listen to music, have a drink or whatever. Everything from embarkation to disembarkation was first class! We are hooked! Read Less

The itinerary couldn't have been better. Our time in the Israel went beyond our expectations and truly were the experience of a lifetime. Our shore excursion guides were wonderful (we primarily did the extra cost excursions) and we felt we got a world history lesson that surpassed anything we were hoping for. The lectures on board were especially helpful - Viking is so on point when they advertise as "The Thinking Person's Cruise". The cruise was the perfect mix of luxury travel and a challenging learning experience. The service on board was just what you would except from a top rated cruise line. The food was excellent, entertainment was quite good and our cabin was surprisingly spacious. Viking handles all customs and processing at each port almost effortlessly. Couldn't have been happier with any portion of the experience. We have already booked 2 more cruises with Viking for next year. Read Less

I took a Danube River cruise in 2015 for my first Viking cruise and thought it was the most amazing cruise I ever took. But then I went on a Viking Ocean cruise and was amazed again. The size of the ship is great. I so enjoyed a great deal I got on a junior suite and airfare and enjoyed this cruise more than I thought possible. Was amazed at the great food on board. The specialty restaurants are wonderful. The afternoon tea around the pool was so amazing (and I don't really like tea). So much entertainment on board and great tours just keep adding to the "Viking sailing experience." The staff on the ship go above and beyond the needs of each customer. Room are kept in great shape and so clean. Love the heated floors in the bathrooms, especially in cooler weather. All areas of the ship are pristine. Ever worker on board is friendly and helpful. Only thing I would have liked to know was how much of Barcelona I would see on the included tour and how much more there was to see with another purchased tour. Being this was my first ocean cruise with the company and first trip to Barcelona, I had no idea how big the city was and how much to see. With the new Facebook groups out there, I now have a good place to get this kind of information. And there are so many people in these groups that have the same opinion that I have - Viking is the best company to sail with! I have just recently had to decide between a Rhine river cruise or an ocean cruise. My friend and I weighed all the options and decided on a trip from Athens to Venice in 2019. Our decision to do another ocean cruise was (1) amazing destination; (2) fabulous food and great room service; (3) great excursions; and (4) beautiful new ship we'll be sailing on (the Jupiter). Can't wait for next year to get here! Read Less

I chose Viking because of my good experience with the Viking Star. However, the overall service, dining, and entertainment are a step behind her sister ship. Don't get me wrong, Viking ship and cabin are very high in quality. This time , the ports and shore excursions are well executed. It seems to me that Viking is expanding too fast. Food quality is subpar for a luxury ship, although it is still better than other common cruse lines. Dinning room service was inconsistent. One night could be very attentive but next night was spotty. A few maiter' d still had attitude of mega ships which treat customers with very respect Viking is in growing pain and it really realizes that you cannot rush to produce before it is ready. All entertainers work very hard but short of talent. The entertainment program could use a little bit of adjustment. It becomes a bit boring, I recalled I skip a night or two. To be honest, most of cruises nowadays offer very little in entertainments on board. If you a top notch entertainers and entertainment, stay on land. Read Less

We finally gave up and went to the buffet in the mornings. evening meals in the restaurant were organized and a pleasure. the pool grill was a standout feature--always busy, but the lunch time casual dining was a real treat. most of the evening entertainment occurs too late for us to enjoy. the ship is beautiful, but still working out a few minor glitches. they need to have more time in valletta, malta. we would sail again with viking. One of the most beautiful ships we've been on. Everything brand new, very Scandinavian lots of blonde wood. Our cabin was good sized and well appointed. Would have liked double sinks, however. Food was hit or miss. Viking has no restaurant option at lunch, so its either the buffet or the pool grill, which is also self-service. Not what a company aspiring to be a top cruise line should offer. Liked the Chef's Table, especially the premium wine pairings. Maître d' and wine person were great! Manfreddi's , however was a whole other story. Disorganized, loud, the Maitre d' was useless. Ate there twice and had to send three of four entrees back-undercooked, overcooked, fishy "fresh fish". Got a side order of asparagus that literally smelled and tasted like diesel fuel. We had the Silver drinks package, but were told upon boarding the ship that they had recently decided to exclude Champagne, even though it's within the $15/drink cost limit! This was ridicules, but the food & beverage manager did accommodate us after we pressed. Viking needs to address, especially since its included in the River cruises. Loved the classical trio, who play at various spots all over the ship. Guitarist and keyboardist were also very good. Shows and musicals in the Theater were below average. Seemed like college- level performances. Theater is also small with low ceilings Service was good overall, with most people really wanting to please. Loved Torshavn bar, which opens at 9pm. I shouldn't tell anyone, because it was nevre crowded Crowd was a lot of first-time, crusers. the kind that don't wash their hands coming out of the bathroom--on a ship! On the 8th day people still hadn't figured out their QuietVox for the tours. Really, you got all the way to Athens and you can't figure out how to push two buttons? Excursions were generally very good with good guides. 90+% of passengers take the included tours. Olympia and all he Venetian influenced cities were our favorites. Because of Fo, we got diverted on the last day from Venice to Trieste, IT. Very disorganized. We were supposed to get off at 8am, some people didn't get off the ship til 9pm, and then a 2 hour bus ride to Venice. We lost our only day in Venice, but we booked flights the next day, so we were not quite as effected. Overall good, not great. Read Less

2 of us recently took the Empires of the Mediterranean Cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had one day in Athens before sailing and took a tour both in the morning and afternoon. The airport meeting and embarkation process was smooth and went off without a hitch. The Viking Sea is gorgeous. Our stateroom was on the 4th deck and was expansive enough that it didn't feel claustrophobic. We'd requested 2 twin beds upon booking, however, the room was still set up with a king bed. The cabin staff were extremely accommodating about getting it switched expeditiously. The dining facilities were amazing, from the World Cafe to Manfredis and the Chef's Table. Food was always fresh and plentiful and captured most of the cuisines of the countries we visited. As our days were pretty full, we didn't take in a lot of the entertainment on board, but there was always something going on and those that attended had nothing but praise. The Shore Excursions were easy to book and usually went off without a hitch. The local guides were very informative and excited to share their home cities with us. Service on board ship was fantastic. We used room service for quite a few of the breakfasts, and it was always on time and hot. Viking Cruises outdid themselves at the end of the cruise. The ship could not dock in Venice (final destination) due to heavy fog, and the decision was made to sail instead to Trieste. Many of us (ourselves included) missed our flights home due to circumstances beyond anyone's control. As we had booked our air travel through Viking, they took care of re-booking our flights to the following day. They also had busses in Trieste to drive us back (2 1/2 hours) to Venice where Viking booked us into the Hilton Molino Stucky on Guidecca Island overnight to catch flights the next day. I don't know how they managed to do all that they did for a lot of their passengers, but it was amazing. Very well organized and appeared seamless. The disembarkation was very slow, but that would be expected considering Trieste didn't expect an influx of passengers coming on board for the next cruise and those disembarking. Very well done. Kudos to Viking Cruises and we would definitely go again. Absolutely fabulous ship, cruise, and staff (both onboard and on the ground). Read Less

Husband and I had never been to Athens, so when friends invited us to join them - we signed up. We arrived three days before departure to explore this remarkable city, could have spent more time. The Sea was introduced this year and all of the public rooms were spotless. The food service was very good. Enjoyed the Living Room tables with the various games. The Spa is wonderful - saunas in the dressing rooms. Co-ed spa baths, steam room and a SNOW ROOM of all things. The entertainment was their singers and dancers and the real show stopper was the LED screen used for a backdrop. It was amazing. No casino, which I missed a little. One complaint - no sea days - we were in a port every day. Enjoyed our included excursions, we were very lucky with the weather. The Kotor, Montenegro sail in and out was breathtaking. We went on the excursion to the Lady of the Rock for a concert - it was very moving performance by the guitar players. The guide at our Koper, Slovenia seemed to be in a race to see if she could outrun us - she almost did. The excursions staff were very organized and helpful. I liked that as people came they were started on their day. My husband and I don't drink alcohol. Viking had many choices for us which included non-alcoholic beer and wine. Very thoughtful. Disembarkation was a nightmare because of fog in Venice. We were supposed to leave at 9am, but ship had to go to Trieste and we didn't get off until 9:30pm. Bussed to port and dropped. It was not a positive experience and we were disappointed in the lack of assistance available, especially because it was 10:30pm. I could go on, but won't. We are in a discussion with Viking. This was our first Viking sea cruise. Cruise critic are very positive about this firm with many 'excellent' comments and the deal offered, less than two months before departure, looked too good to be true. We'd previously been on a Viking River cruise, which we'd thoroughly enjoyed, so we thought we'd give it a go. Well, I am delighted to say that out of the 15 or so cruises to date this one was the best by quite a way! Many firms tell us that there staff are their greatest asset but, in my experience, the Viking Sea staff were streets ahead of other cruise companies. Maybe because of the guest/ staff ratio, they have more time to talk to the passengers but whatever the reason all staff on the ship were unfailingly courteous, helpful and engaging: nothing appeared to be too much trouble. To be fair, our transfer from Rome airport to Civitavecchia was less than satisfactory and Viking should think about the agents that they use in Rome for their transfers, as first impressions are important but as soon as we arrived at check in everything was smooth and seamless. Dining WOW! One of the main stereotypes of cruising is that you will eat far too much good food. Not always so ,in my experience, but everything here was fabulous. Even the burger bar was a triumph. The food was interesting, of high quality and varied. The self service ice-creams and coffee were spot on and the waffles and cakes in Mamsen's to die for. Evening dining was no less of an experience. The main dining room was friendly, spacious with an extensive choice and the service here was consistently outstanding. We dined at Manfredi's three times and enjoyed everything but I particularly liked the Bistecca Fiorentina and the dark chocolate Amaroni Cremosa. Not quite as wowed with the Chef's table but the wine pairing was interesting and I mostly enjoyed the food.. Not sure that a set menu is a winner. I found it a little pretentious. We 'did' afternoon tea once and again we were not disappointed. Enrichment activities Much enjoyed: a variety of speakers on a variety of stimulating, relevant topics. No 'dumbing' down. Loved artwork through out ship and 'Munch moments' before diner. Also the small museum and the many and varied books were a definite plus. Entertainment Only area we felt wasn't excellent. Started well with Opera Conservatoire but felt rest of evening shows lacked a certain something. Films rather traditional. Cabin 4108 Well designed, plenty of power outlets, very comfortable bed, lots of storage space (maybe a bit more drawer space on a 14 night cruise would have been useful). New ship ,so no issues with worn carpets etc. but cabin steward and his assistant brilliant in all respects keeping the place immaculate. Bathroom great, not a shower curtain in sight! and the heated floor is a bonus. Balcony no different to Celebrity, P&O etc but did have a voile in front of curtain. Would I go with Viking again. the answer is a resounding yes!!!!!!!!!!! Read Less

We have taken 3 river cruises with Viking and been very pleased with the experience, so naturally we considered them when we starting thinking of for a blue water adventure. We were continually amazed at the level of service, the array of activities available on board and ashore in included and available excursions. A few negatives: 1. On shore experiences the guides spent altogether too much time making local shopping available to the passengers. Naturally, frequent rest room breaks are appreciated; but on a number of the excursions in Greece & Israel particularly, we were obviously & continually being dumped into souvenir shops. Most tourists want to take back souvenir items for themselves and acquaintances, but the amount of time spent in such shops could have been better spent on useful touring. 2. The tour of Haifa's Bahai Gardens is not worth the effort - amounted to peeking thru gates from the top of the hill for 2 minutes. If their religious strictures restrict the access to their facility, the limited time in port would be much better spent elsewhere. 3. In Jerusalem, as my wife is of Armenian heritage, she naturally wanted to visit the Armenian Quarter. There was no tour that offered even a brief foray into that area; therefore, she bolted the tour and ventured on her own to satisfy her desire. She is an experienced traveller and rejoined the tour as agreed after an hour's diversion on her own. You may consider accommodating that need in future tours. Read Less

Before our cruise began in Rome, we spent 3 days in Tuscany - Florence, Siena and San Gimignano. Tuscany was beautiful. Seeing all of the old towns and buildings, shopping, having a glass of wine or a beer as we people watched and eating the local foods, pasta, pizza etc. was great! Once in Rome and boarding the Viking Sea, everything involved with this Viking Cruise with just outstanding. The entire ship was unbelievable - 1st Class! Although not a large ship, just 900+ guests, there was plenty of room all over that you never felt crowded. The room was great, the food was great and the people providing service throughout the ship were just so nice and friendly. We visited Naples, Crete, Israel (Haifa and the old town Jerusalem), Cyprus, Rhodes, Mykonos and Athens. Walking the streets of old Jerusalem and being at the Acropolis were memories that we will never forget. I have done the Viking River Cruise which was also 1st Class, but I can't wait for our next Viking Ocean Cruise, maybe the Vikings Homelands cruise. Read Less

This was the trip of a lifetime for us! We sailed from Athens, Greece aboard the Viking Sea on Nov.6, 2016. We were delighted by the beautiful ship and spacious quarters! The ship holds 930 people and does not feel crowded even for meals. Service was very good but could have been a little prompter in the dining areas. The room Stewart, Pulo, did an outstanding job of keeping our room clean and tidy. The daily excursions were really good, guides were excellent and destinations well planned. We met many lovely people on the ship and enjoyed many meals, excursions, and trivia games with them. Some people complained about the entertainment but we usually were so tired we just went to bed. We felt like most of our fellow sailors were in our age group , which is 60+. please try Viking, they do an excellent job! We felt they were on par with Oceania. Read Less

While we usually arrive early enough to explore our departure city before our cruise, we didn't do so this time. To our delight Viking provided exceptional excursions that were quite comprehensive, and we were able to take in every thing we'd hoped to experience in Athens, and much more. Boarding our ship and embarkation was an extremely easy, smooth and non-stressful as is sometimes the case on other cruise lines. Instead of the usual crowd of people coming and going, the checking and getting to our cabin was very pleasant. Our luggage was already in our room when we arrived, a very pleasant change from our past experience with other cruise lines. The ship was absolutely beautiful. The common spaces were large, attractively designed and furnished, and so very comfortable. Our cabin meet all of our expectations and hopes. Very spacious and beautifully designed and furnished. Ample atorage and closet space so that we were quickly unpacked and off the explore the rest of the ship. The Explorer's Lounge was one of our favorite places to simply relax to read, and to enjoy a fabulous vantage point from which to view and enjoy our time at sea. Amazing views out over the front of the ship as we sailed on. Great beverages and tasty light snacks as we experienced the relaxing time in comfortable overstuffed chairs and couches. We loved the anytime dining, and experienced each dining venue from the main dining room to each of the speciality dining spots. A large selection of delicious dishes everywhere we went, with top notch, attentive services in every regard. And each evening following dinner we enjoyed such excellent entertainment whose quality was matched by such great variety. Port talks were plentiful and very helpful. Mad additionally we enjoyed a series of educational and extremely interesting talks/lectures provided by a wide range of quite learned guest speakers. The itinerary of ports was a true adventure. The range of excursions allowed for great variety of activities and tours. I think it's really worth of mention that in each port Viking provided at least one free excursion. And I sincerely complement the quality and content of these free excursions. We did a number of paid excursions especially in the history filled country of Israel, but we also enjoyed many to the complementary excursions as well. All together they provided a wonderful opportunity to experience this great cruise adventure. This trip was for my wife and me, and we so enjoyed it. Again, I'd like to complement the beauty and enjoyment of the ship. We look forward to additional travel on Viking Ocean Cruises, and we'd really enjoy inviting other friends and/or family who we're sure will enjoy their experience as much as we did. Read Less
