We wanted a unique trip to somewhere that would be difficult to arrange personally. The Amazon satisfied this requirement. The small ship also was important, since we are not fond of thousands of passengers for travel companions. The staff made our party of eight comfortable in all dining areas. We particularly enjoyed the different relaxing venues and exercise and locker room areas. We arranged ...
Positives:
We are experienced sea and river cruisers. With viking ocean, we have cruised on the viking star, viking sky and viking sea. Our recent cruise on the viking sea was the best of the three ships. The best feature of viking cruises is viking's overall logistical excellence. When they provide the air, you can count on viking to manage all connections or travel disruptions. the viking ...
My review of the Viking Sea…it was bigger than I thought…nearly 900 people. I got spoiled on the other Viking with the River Cruise of only about 150ish…and the Celebrity X which I absolutely loved. The room we had was very worth it size wise…the veranda was nice, the service of the cabin was excellent, and the storage area was HUGE…there were drawers everywhere. I used the laundry for the ...
The Viking Sea is in great condition! All the amenities and features of this beautiful ship worked great. The crew was very attentive, the food excellent, the wine and beer served at lunch and dinner where above average.
The entertainment could have been improved because the sound system was too loud and with too much reverb applied that it did a disservice to the wonderful cast of ...
I would have given 5 stars as it was a wonderful experience overall with one major exception. We were supposed to go to Manaus & other stops in Brazil, but the Amazon was at historic low water levels and couldn't be navigated. Instead of rerouting us to a coastal port in Brazil, we were taken to the West Indies. We had visited those islands with Viking the year before, so the repeat stops ...
We chose this cruise because we wanted to see the Amazon River, the Brazilian rain forest and less-traveled portions of the Caribbean. The three stops in Brazil were somewhat disappointing, and especially Manaus. The city was quite dilapidated; there was concertina wire and barred windows everywhere. Passengers who stayed in hotels during the one-day extension were all advised not to travel ...
Going up the Amazon was a bit different than the usual Caribbean jaunts. Also the prospect of seeing Devil's Island was intriguing. Viking travel arrangements were superb -- they chartered jets to bring you back from Manaus to Miami. Three cheers for Viking. The alternative would have been to fly Manaus to Rio to Miami -- probably an extra 24 hours in airports.
The disappointment was that ...
Everything about the ship itself was fabulous. The excursions were very variable and in some cases I cannot understand how research in advance would have determined that these were all suitable excursions. The excursions ranged from excellent to head shakingly poor.
Ship: great cabins, amazing staff, terrific food, excellent guitarist, very good pianist, so-so classical duo, interesting ...
We recently came back from the 10-day West Indies Explorer on Viking Sea. Overall, we had a great time, and we have an appreciation of both what Viking offers and what it does not offer. It’s a contender for us for certain, but not one we felt spoiled us for any other cruise line. Lots of detail from our perspective in this very long review.

The trip was chosen because of Viking's excellent reputation for quality which was certainly borne out on board. The ship and all the facilities were all absolutely immaculate and served by a most professional and friendly crew who could not do enough for you to make you welcome. The restaurants provided an excellent choice of really superb quality meals and again, beautifully served. Booking ...
