We've always wanted to visit Australia and New Zealand and this cruise offered stops in cities in Australia (3 days) and several locations in New Zealand (the remaining days, not including 4 sailing days).
We'd had great experiences with prior Viking river cruises, but this was our first ocean cruise. The overall quality of the cruise experience was excellent. The cruise was well organized. ...
Chose this cruise for its itinerary. Sadly, one of the ports (Dunedin) was cancelled before we sailed, and then another cancelled during the cruise (Wellington). This added an extra at sea day, which made for a total of 5. We are not fans of at sea days, especially when there is little to do on board (as was the case with Viking). In summary, here are some of the highs and lows: SHIP = ...
Thank you, Haynathrt, for sharing all your kind words from your experience with us. That said, while sometimes adjustments are necessary to preserve the integrity of your voyage, we're sorry...
We chose this cruise as we wanted to see New Zealand and Australia and share it with our friends (2 other couples). The boat, cabin and staff were exceptional! The food and dining options were great! Really enjoyed them.
Unfortunately I have some negative critiques. First, there weren't many activities to do on the boat at night or during sea days. The passenger demographics were much older than ...
We had Australia and New Zealand as the last of the Continents tht we have visited. We arrived for a pre-cruse experience. We expected a long flight from New Hampshire, and it was. When we arrived, as a few others did for this cruise, we could not fdind the Representative for Viking. Of course finally we did. The HOtel was excellent and the service there was above great. After that we headed to ...
We had expected better based on other travelers comments, cruise description and cost.
To begin with the description of the cruise was misleading, it was described as spending two days in Bali, when in reality we arrived in Bali in the evening and had to disembark the next morning. Luckily we had extended our trip by one day on our own so we had the chance to see something.
Second, the ...
We took the 12 night trip from Bangkok to Bali. The disembarkation port is more than 2 1/2 hours away from the city of Bangkok by taxi. This made making a visit to Bangkok after boarding the ship an expensive and challenging proposition. There was no indication of the distance from the port by Viking prior to our actual trip.
Our next disappointment was with the beverage package.. My wife and ...
Viking rated #1! Not for this cruise. Short amount of time in Bangkok. Included tour was much too short. For a city like Bangkok, more time is needed. Next stops, Kuala Lampur and Singapore needed much more time. Tours were ok, but guides needed a better command of the English language.
The time spent in Indonesia could have been put to better use by extending Bangkok and Singapore. Jakarta ...
Chose this cruise for the destinations, which were wonderful.
Ship was very clean and overall staff very friendly and attentive. Speciality Restaurants were of a very good standard. Spa was excellent. Entertainment shows were very good. Live music being played during day and evenings in Main Foyer was repetitious.
Main Dining was at times “ hit and miss”. Felt they had skimped somewhat ...
We chose the Viking Ocean cruise because we had done two Viking river cruises which were exceptional. So we were expecting the same on an ocean cruise. Not to be, alas!
The ship itself, Orion, about 8 months old , is very well decorated and spacious.
Our room , a penthouse suite with veranda, suited us perfectly: spacious and lots of drawers.
The bed was not comfortable: hard as rock. ...
Could not get the flight I wanted, even though I took Air Plus. Flight home was delayed 2 hours, so United dumped all luggage at LAX stopover and cancelled all connecting flights. We had a scheduled 3 hour layover, so there was plenty of time to catch our original flight. But, instead we had to rebook and ended up with crummy seats in the back of the plane.
Many excursions were filled up before ...
