A nice cruise on a nice ship

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Viking Orion

This was my second Viking Ocean cruise so obviously I liked my first one. For reference, I would classify Viking as perhaps a rung below lines like Silversea and Regent, but above Oceania or Celebrity. This was my first visit to this part of the world, and generally it was an excellent cruise with a few hiccups here and there. I probably preferred my first Viking cruise to this one for a few ...

Great experience but there were challenges

This was our first cruise on over 30 years. We were traveling half way around the world to visit with a family member in Sydney and decided to include New Zealand in our travels. The pre-extension around the north island was fabulous. We met some great people on the cruise, and there was a lot of good food. The entertainment was outstanding, as well as the talks on history of the areas we were ...

We choose this cruise to travel with our friends who has mobility issues. Our first Viking Cruise and it more than met my expectations. The stateroom was excellent, our cabin service as well as the waitstaff and ship crew were all friendly, and went above and beyond to make our trip memorable. We had a few issues including an electrical fire in a stateroom on our deck the first day and a ...

NZ & Australia have been on our list for many years. We are frequent Viking travelers. This was our 6th Viking cruise, and we already have another scheduled and planning several more. This trip was scheduled after a Canadian/New England trip was canceled because of Covid issues a few years ago. Then this trip was delayed in NA/Australia because of Covid. We were excited that the trip finally took ...

Auckland to Sydney on the cruise where the Orion got sick (Growths on ship hull) and we remained at sea for 8.5 days.

Always wanted to see N.Z. and Australia. Had 3 prior experiences with Viking River Cruises and all were fabulous. Felt Viking was the best option to see the highlights of both countries in a predictable, friendly, and known environment. Despite missing multiple ports of call and being "stranded' at sea as some passengers referred to the cruise, the overall time, ship amenities (pool, exercise ...

A good cruise cut short

Overall i like the Viking ocean ships. Clean, crisp norweigian style. Food choices good. Room layout very good. But this review is about my view of the way Viking handled the itinerary debacle caused by the virus. We were merrily headed to Hobart Tasmania when the captain informed us early in the morning while at sea that we were headed on a beeline to the mainland of AUS to get into port ...

Viking is noted for being an above average cruise line. Unfortunately this particular cruise started out substandard for Viking. I made comments early on in our cruise and was really pleased with the quick feedback and attention to my comments made by Viking staff. The staff on the ship were all exceptionally friendly and attentive. The food was very good-especially in Manfredi's-my favorite. Did ...

First time on Viking: Great crew but disappointing accommodations

Have sailed on most lines over the past 25 years , most recently on Regent, Seabourn, Silversea. We were impressed with the consistently excellent service throughout the ship by the delightful crew. The ship’s ambience is quite serene and decor just lovely and comfortable. Food overall is very good. We dined in all of the venues. Our least favorite was the main restaurant due to the noise, ...

We had been planning a trip to New Zealand and Australia for a long time. It involved a lot of research. During our land tour travels in Europe and Morocco we had met many Aussies and Kiwis and have kept in touch with many. We researched many ways of visiting both NZ and Australia. Considering the long travel time to them from the East coast, it became apparent that the easiest way was to take a ...

Viking Experience in Southern Hemisphere

Our previous experience with Viking was the Midnight Sun. We were pleased with the quality of services and ship. We arrived 3 days early in New Zealand and stayed an extra 4 days in Sydney. Time allowed by Viking would not have done justice to these cities. We planned our own package with the help of our TA. We were very happy with the ports visited. Shore excursions need a little work - you ...
