I had a fantastic time on Viking to Iceland. Based on that trip I convinced my husband to come along on a trip from Bali to Bangkok.
First, the Viking brand does not translate well to Asia.
Second, the itinerary is, how can I say it nicely…bad. Far too much time spent in ports not good for cruises, far too little in interesting ports. Singapore for 8 hours is beyond too little time ...
I love traveling. This particular Viking Ocean Cruise was my first. When I travel, top priority is food, then comfort, then quality of excursions, amenities and lastly all that was promised to me was fulfilled.
I chose Viking because it had the best reputation for food quality and because there would be no kids on the ship. No loud screaming babies as I chose this to get a break from whiny ...
We'd taken a Viking Ocean Cruise across the North Atlantic in 2019, and decided to break our Covid travel limitations on another, because we knew that the boats aren't overcrowded, and that it was possible to do things like wear masks and eat outside on the deck. In that regard, things worked out--we were on the boat for 28 days (Bangkok to Sydney) and didn't get sick. The room-a deluxe ...
This cruise started as a river cruise but it was canceled twice so we opted for an ocean cruise. We heard viking was a notch above the rest which turned out not to be true. The cruise started out of San Juan we paid to transfers to and from the airport and were expecting an agent to meet us at the airport, nobody was there and not we are outside the security zone of the airport had to walk around ...
We had expected better based on other travelers comments, cruise description and cost.
To begin with the description of the cruise was misleading, it was described as spending two days in Bali, when in reality we arrived in Bali in the evening and had to disembark the next morning. Luckily we had extended our trip by one day on our own so we had the chance to see something.
Second, the ...
We took the 12 night trip from Bangkok to Bali. The disembarkation port is more than 2 1/2 hours away from the city of Bangkok by taxi. This made making a visit to Bangkok after boarding the ship an expensive and challenging proposition. There was no indication of the distance from the port by Viking prior to our actual trip.
Our next disappointment was with the beverage package.. My wife and ...
Viking rated #1! Not for this cruise. Short amount of time in Bangkok. Included tour was much too short. For a city like Bangkok, more time is needed. Next stops, Kuala Lampur and Singapore needed much more time. Tours were ok, but guides needed a better command of the English language.
The time spent in Indonesia could have been put to better use by extending Bangkok and Singapore. Jakarta ...
We cruised from Hong Kong to Bangkok. The ship (Viking Orion) is fabulous, the ports are quite a mix, and the passengers are generally not very nice people.
We enjoyed the ship, especially the Explorer's Dome and the gym/spa. The food and entertainment/ cultural series were mostly excellent. We especially enjoyed the Chef's Table, Manfredi's is also excellent.
In this region of the ...
We went on this cruise because of the itinerary. Had not been to Hong Kong or Japan. We booked this cruise onboard our last ocean cruise over a year ago. We picked the stateroom we wanted (midships). Little did we know that choosing a lower level cabin we would not have all the rights of people who booked higher levels. For example when it came my turn to book the bullet train it was sold ...
We were traveling with some friends, and were interested in the locations visited. The ship and crew were fantastic. We enjoyed the food, which we felt was diverse and of high quality. However, we were not happy with the excursions. In general, they were superficial, lacking detail in the locations visited. The local guides often had difficulties speaking the English language. These comments ...
