We had done this cruise before but in reverse order and had convinced friends to try it. when they booked it we agreed to go with them. I did not enjoy my time in town going this way though. When you go from Amsterdam to Basel you are going upstream and it slows the boat down. this does not allow the same amount of time to visit the towns you stop in. Not having time in town means the walking tour ...
The Viking Cruise was an amazing mix of interesting places with good guides, wonderful people (fellow customers and service staff) nice facilities and exceptionally well managed operations and activities. Our only problem was with the reservation staff and travel planning. (A 24-hour two transfer plane trip from Europe was the longest ever for us.) Their performance was unfortunately mediocre ...
Loved the small number of passengers. Loved everything about the trip, but the excursions could have been better. Organization and communication about the excursions had a lot of room for improvement. The tour director did not tell us a lot about the tours and the free time was extremely limited except for the last night in Germany. The ship was often moved from the time the tour started until ...
We joined two other couples to celebrate a special birthday on the Romantic Danube Cruise. This is my first Viking Cruise and was so enjoyable that we plan to go to France next October. As a group, we are in our 50's and 60's. I will say that we were among the youngest on this cruise. I thought at first that it might make a difference with how well other people did on excursions, ...
The food, room, tours, personnel, concerts, etc. were wonderful, but the odor outside our cabin on the bottom level of the boat was horrible. I don't know whether it was sewage which had spilled or something else, but it took away from an otherwise great trip.
The excursions were well planned and interesting, both the complimentary tours and the ones that were at an additional cost. The ...
Based on their professional marketing chose this company over Riviera River Cruises.
Over all a well managed if slightly, over the top, super organised company.
Booked additional tours on Viking web site prior to cruise and found I'd been charged for using my credit card, without being advised of this on the payment page. After a couple of telephone calls to Viking, they agreed to refund ...
We enjoyed the "Romantic Danube" cruise very much and would recommend Viking to anyone as a GREAT choice. Booked everything with Viking, no issues. Started in Budapest on the ship Njord. Simply, the ship and crew were perfect, met and went above the standards. Yes at times you could smell sewage, big deal. Where do you think it goes after you flush? Duh, the tank vents sometimes, Not an issue ...
We spent a great deal of time on buses. We realize this was due to some of the work on locks. We felt short changed on the river tours. There was very little to do in the evenngs except sit in the piano bar. Part of this was due to weather conditions as it was cold and we could not spend much time out side. We are glad we went to Buapest early to see the city before boarding, again weather played ...
This is our third Viking River Cruise, and the only that has been affected by water levels. In this case, the level of the Danube was too low for the ships between Regensburg and Melk.
However, Viking handled it well, unlike some of my fellow passengers who for some reason seem to feel Viking can control after levels. We changed mid-cruise from Viking Freya to Viking Njord.
We stayed at the ...
My wife and I arrived in Budapest 4 days early to explore that beautiful city on our own, so, of course, our first contact with the Viking staff was when we boarded the Njord. From the first moment we were treated with great care and consideration. The taxi driver let us off at a different Viking ship but the crewman from that ship walked us down to where the Njord was docked and even helped ...
