Our friends were already booked on it and told us Viking cruises are wonderful. WE looked forward to seeing Europe from the water perspective as well. First cruise for us and overall, our experience was very good. Food was excellent. Service also was top rate. Thought some ports could have used extra time. Excursions were on the whole quite good. Very informative guides. Would have liked more opportunities to bike in some of these ports. Also, would have been nice to have a small gym with weights available. WEights and perhaps an exercise bike and stair stepper. My husband and I are in our early 50's and I realize the average age of your passengers may be older. I do think Viking is starting to attract a younger adult crowd though and making some accomodations to satisfy that age demographic would be nice. Would definitely travel with Viking again though. Overall, we enjoyed it. Read Less

This was a good mix of history and multi-cultural experiences. Accommodations on the Modi were excellent. Dining was wonderful every day, every meal. Menu options were tailored to each area we visited and other choices were equally tasty and well presented. Staff was super nice and very professional. Fellow travelers made for interesting conversations and some have become friends. Tours were really well guided and quite interesting. Would take another Viking Cruise. Viking staff met us at the Budapest airport and we felt in good hands from the first 5 minutes. We had 2 nights in Budapest ahead of embarking - great hotel, right on the Danube, near just about everything. Great location and service. The ship ran into heavy traffic or fast current along certain segments. The tour director and staff scrambled to reschedule buses and tours 3 times - our experience was great each time like normal schedule. Read Less

Firstly greeted and directed to ship efficiently by Viking rep. 1.75 hour transfer to ship from Munich airport. Arrived unpacked. room just a standard with port hole viewing window. free safe, storage for cases under bed. compact shower and toilet. all toiletries supplied. good quality hairdryer. Nightly meeting 15 minutes prior to dinner 7-9pm to advise on the following day excursions. loved the sit anywhere dining room. we got to met so many different guests. the seating is the same for lunch 12-2. Food was amazing from breakfast to evening meal, not one complaint. free drinks of wine and beer with meals was more than generous. our surprise was that out of 180 on board there were only 12 British guests. The remaining guests were all Americans. Excursions all begin at 8.30 with the exception of 1 which was 9. Evenings low key, chatting and not too late to bed because of the early mornings. Staff were all excellent. the Captain very visible with guests. 24 hr tea and coffee station with cookies, however I would have liked tea and coffee facilities in the cabin, that's just a personal thing. best excursion, Vienna and Budapest. If you would like a poor river, bus and walking tour, book with Viking Cruise Line, I think. You will also get poor attitude and food at times. We were on 4 different ships which meant packing and unpacking every time with bus rides between ships. Our room flooded 3 times with sewer water on different ships. I asked for a ice pack for my diabetes meds because of the long bus rides and was refused by a hotel manager. Thus it went bad and caused me big problems. This was on our bucket list, I'm 80 and saved for years for trip. We received a letter from Viking Cruise Line offering a small % for our next cruise with Viking, I called and asked for cash which replied no. Be careful when you plan a cruise. Read Less

My husband and I travel often, however, this was our first Viking Cruise. It will definitely not be our last. Everything about this cruise was top notch. Crew members were amazing They were always pleasant and went out of their way to accommodate any reasonable requests made by any of the guests. They also did a great job of handling the the unreasonable complaints made by guests.[One person complained of no balcony after booking a room with no balcony!?] The Longship was kept spotless. Our house keeper did a fabulous job of restocking and being sure that everything in our cabin was perfect. Food was tasty and plentiful. The kitchen staff did any and everything possible to be sure to meet each passengers' specific needs. Tours were very good. I'm not a "group tour" person, so did some exploring on my own. Sites we visited were outstanding. Each evening before dinner guests were given a briefing of the following day's activities. A "newspaper"describing the following day's activities was also left in each stateroom. We were well informed of what to expect. The ship's lounge was the gathering place for the briefings and most on board activities. The on board activities were varied and always fun and/or informative. One of my favorites was the Glassblower from Bamberg. We joined folks in the lounge daily for Happy Hour and again after dinner for either scheduled entertainment or to listen to the wonderful piano playing of Nikoli. We opted to do an extra 2 nights in Budapest at the end of our cruise. The hotel was fabulous. Our room had a view of Fishermen's Bastion and the Danube. We were fortunate to have a wedding take place on the bastion that we watched from our room. Be sure to try the paprikash in Budapest! All in all I would highly recommend this Viking cruise and am looking forward to doing another within the next two years. Read Less

This was our third trip to Europe and the two previous were land based. We were a little concerned about having only limited time to explore the places we visited but this was more than balanced out by the comfort and quality of the cruise ship. The stateroom was small as expected but the bathroom was very serviceable and the bed was comfortable. The room had a surprising amount of storage available. The ships staff was extremely friendly and seemed to anticipate your needs very well. One time I was lounging on the upper deck and thought to myself that my legs were a little cold. Almost at the same time, someone was there with a deck blanket. The food at every meal was excellent, with a good variety of items on the menu. Even with the limited amount of time on shore compared to staying in a hotel, we saw quite a bit and almost all the tour-guides did a good job of showing all the highlights they could and many times quite a bit more details than expected. We had only two complaints. The "Rhine Getaway" tour that we took in April 2015 seemed to be a hectic, constantly on the move, especially the Basil departure and Heidelberg/Rudeshime day. We have read that Viking has altered the tour slightly to try and correct this, such as adding some time in Basil. When we travel with Viking again, we will opt for a longer cruise. The second issue is that atmosphere of the ship regarding the other passengers felt a little stodgy and conservative, like an upscale Midwestern hotel in the US. Read Less
