Enjoyed all the small towns in Germany and the outstanding countryside. We especially enjoyed the Rhine valley area, absolutely stunning. Overall the food and service on the ship was good. We enjoyed getting to know our servers and they did a great job taking care of us. Even though we were traveling with 12 other people, we enjoyed meeting other people from either the United States or countries outside the U.S. We unfortunately ran out of water on some parts of our trip but realize that is out of the control of Viking. They did their very best to accommodate us with bus trips or changing ships. The shore excursions were very enjoyable, and loved that they were mostly done by locals who love their towns they live in. We would have loved to have seen more of Budapest, absolutely gorgeous. We did add several days to Amsterdam which was wonderful. Read Less

I loved the cruise. A great way to travel. Very relaxing. Programme Director was superb! Food was excellent. Included day trips were well selected and guides were well prepared and knowledgeable. Timing was good. Tour group sizes very good. Selection of places to dock and location of docking was excellent and close or in the towns. The crew were very friendly and helpful. Information sent beforehand was helpful. We organized our flights with Viking and asked for aisle seating. I got aisle but my friend who also asked for aisle was assigned an inside seat. For long flights that is not fun. I am not sure why the mix-up occurred and complained when I talked with someone after. It makes me concerned about future planning of seating. It was helpful to have booked through Viking and paid the extra $50 to make the selections that we did. Good work guys! Read Less

The fifteen(15) day Grand European Tour exceeded our expectations! The ship was beautiful and extremely accommodating. Our veranda stateroom was very nice and had everything we needed to be comfortable while enjoying the beautiful scenery as we sailed the rivers. However, the most amazing part of the cruise was the cuisine. Chef Jakub and his staff presented wonderful meals that depicted the culture and essence of the people we visited. We had the opportunity to join Chef on a visit to Vienna's famous Naschmarket and it was a dream come true. We walked through the market tasting the delicious wines, cheeses and other delicacies as Chef Jakub explained to us the awesome qualities of the white asparagus he intended to prepare for dinner. What an unbelievable adventure! Another outstanding aspect of the trip was how well Caitlyn and her team organized the daily tours, entertainment and activities. Not only were the lectures educational but they were entertaining and chalked full of attention getting antics. I learned more about this part of the world in fifteen(15) days than I had previously learned my entire life. The excursions, entertainment and lectures were top of the line! Finally, the service from the entire crew was incredible! My husband and I felt as though we were royalty being catered to throughout the trip. Thank you Viking Team for a fantastic travel experience and we will definitely be joining you again soon! Read Less

This cruise was really an experience of a lifetime - the ship itself was very comfortable and the staff was incredible. Almost any request was met. For instance, one of the people we were traveling with happened to mention to our waiter one night that he would like some sweet potato fries (why, I can't imagine) - he was served those the next evening. The evening meals were delicious and the service was impeccable, with three different entrees each night (as well as the standard steak, fish or Caesar salad offered every night). The lunches and breakfasts had many varieties and choices available, especially breakfast, with cooked to order eggs, omelets, pancakes, crepes as well as cereals, several different breads and a large choice of drinks. The short excursions were well planned and executed, with little wasted time. Be prepared to walk 5-7 miles a day on a typical short excursion (included in the price). There were other optional tours - a Strauss/Mozart concert at the Winter Palace in Vienna, a visit with a real prince at his winery estate in Germany, visiting off-river towns in Bavaria and many more (at least one optional tour a day and more often two or more). We could not have asked for more on this trip. Read Less

I was hesitant to take a river cruise but couldn't pass up the special price offer on this one from Budapest to Amsterdam. To my surprise, it would rate as one of the best cruising experiences I have had. The service was far above any I have experienced on a big ship, the food was great and the entire experience was above expectations. The main difference from big ship cruises was that there is not much entertainment or activities on board. It really doesn't matter because you are always busy anyway, dining, touring or just visiting and relaxing with new friends made on the cruise. If you are someone who needs to be entertained every second, this kind of cruise may not be for you but if you want a leisurely entertaining cruise that allows for just enough personal time, you can't beat this. I especially appreciated the attention any request and every member of the crew was very pleasant. As an example, when we arrived at the dock, the Cruise Director came rushing out to our car to help us with our luggage and insisted on carrying it to the ship. The Captain even came around and shook everybody's hand during the last nights meal. Read Less
