We wanted to experience a more intimate, friendly cruise experience. We have grown tired of the big, mega ships with thousands of passengers. The meals were of top quality and a highlight of each evening. The ship staff were always polite and willing to help with any question s we had. The excursions were right on. They were long enough so we could enjoy the locale that we were visiting and still gave us time to unwind before dinner on the ship. In general, everything went well. All the events and excursions were well planned and went off without a hitch. GREAT TRIP. We enjoyed the experience so much that we have already booked another river cruise for next summer. Both of our fathers served in Europe during the second world war and we wanted to partially retrace their footsteps throughout France and Germany. Again a very good trip. Worth every penney. Paris is always a great destination. Just walking around the city is a great pleasure. Lunch in a little brasserie near Notre Dame added to that pleasure. And, a visit to Notre Dame is good anytime - a place of peace. We had never been to see Monet's gardens. This was a reason for the trip. The gardens more than lived up to expectations even though we were too early for the lilies to be in bloom. Our guide was wonderful, very knowledgeable. We took lots of photos, and had to buy a guide to the gardens to figure out all the variety of flowers. (The gift shop was an excellent shopping stop.) Omaha Beach and the American cemetery were very moving places. Rouen and the smaller towns along the way were most pleasant. And then, there was the simple pleasure of cruising on the Seine River. As always on Viking, the food was excellent, the service friendly and unparalleled, and the cabins most comfortable at the end of a hard day of tourism. We always like that we unpack once and the hotel goes with us on the journey. Read Less

First class cruise with 1st class people. We simply just loved, loved, loved the crew! The experience onboard the ship was great in every way. We always felt so comfortable and well taken care of. The food was great with a local influence and the servers in the restaurant although not technically perfect were efficient and personable. The excursions that we went on were well organized … the only comment would be that we would have liked more time at the beaches of Normandy. The reality is that it is there is only so much you can see in one day – if you really want to see everything then you must spend several days there. The ceremony arranged by the ship was a nice touch and made a big impression on us. Overall the tour program was really well organized and the concierge did a great job organizing the tours. The Program Director was also informative, but a little high pitched and too long briefings. All the guides were clear and easy to understand. I would have liked to see an option with a smaller tour group. No complaints about anything. You get what you pay for. Viking is an excellent value for an excellent experience. Go! Now! Read Less

Viking was offering a fantastic deal for this cruise; two for one fares plus cancel up to the day before departure with a full refund (Viking no longer offers the full refund; believe it was due to events in Europe/France at the time). The cruise was phenomenal; we hadn't been on a river cruise and it was on our bucket list. Viking also offered air fare for an extremely reasonable price. The ship was placed into service earlier this year and was very elegant from the lobby/atrium to the lounge (light and airy - a good place to "get away"), to the dining facilities (great views from all seats) to the cabins. The cabins were smaller that what we've experienced on ocean cruises, but was spacious enough for the journey and we had a French balcony, which allowed us to open the floor to ceiling window (similar to sliding doors). The food was excellent and there were several selections plus a standard menu available each night. At breakfast and lunch you had the option of the buffet or ordering from the menu (the pancakes were amazing). The servers became well acquainted with you and treated you well; they spoke very good English, and could converse in multiple languages. The staff was extremely professional, but able to joke and have conversations with you. Viking really tries to accommodate dietary restrictions/preferences. My husband and his brother got an impromptu tour of the navigation bridge from the First Officer, simply by asking the question. Excursions are included for each port, with some having additional excursions to purchase, such as the Paris + Louvre, Versailles, and Paris by Night - all were worth the extra cost. The local walking tours were informative about the regions. We like the fact that Viking doesn't nickel and dime you for everything; wine and beer are included with lunch and dinner; free wi-fi, complimentary water in cabin and for each excursion; complimentary umbrellas for inclement weather; complimentary coffee/tea service outside the lounge 24 hours. After a damp/chilly day at the Normandy Beaches, the ship greeted us with "Happy Hot Chocolate" on our return to the ship. The ship docks in Le Pecq, which is about 35-45 min from Paris via shuttle (Viking provided, free). Our transfer from the airport to the ship was flawless and easy; departure from the ship was easy, however the airport part was hectic, hurried, and we almost got lost/left behind. The woman greeting the group at the airport left for the check-in area before getting all the passengers and their luggage. She provided no instructions and practically raced to the check-in area - something to be aware of. The other impressive part of Viking is that everyone on the ship works; my sister-in-law saw the captain assisting with loading luggage from the ship. The Program Director did this as well and accompanied us on all excursions. There is only a walking track on the upper deck. Read Less

Our second Viking river cruise, Danube was first. Excelled beyond the first one, which was outstanding. Had to visit France and the Normandy countryside. From start to finish, Viking lived up to its claims. Crew was remarkable. Fun, professional, cheerful, untiring service. Easy transfer, informative excursions, all the right places, best guides. Meals were excellent on board. We purchased a beverage package that was worth the cost. More wine selections, and off hour bar service. Upon return we booked a Med cruise for March. Music during cocktail hour, diner and evening cruising was one of the highlights of our cruise. The friend we made among fellow passengers made day to day travel a joy. Cabin size for our Veranda A and deck location was perfect for us, quiet, easy to lounge and upper deck. Our extended stay in Paris kept us busy sunrise to late evening. Hotel was comfortable and caring. We will continue on with Viking. Read Less

We wanted to walk around Paris and see the Normandy beaches and the towns along the Seine from Paris to Rouen. We are limited to taking river cruises because one of us gets very sea sick and we can't take an ocean cruise because of that. The boat is unbelievable; there is absolutely no noise or vibration that you can feel. You would not even know you were moving, that's how smooth it is. The boat is much smaller than a large cruise ship so you feel at home and not lost in a 10 story "apartment" as you would in a typical ocean ship. It is also perfectly clean and fastidiously maintained. The cruise staff treated us (and all other passengers) as special guests, even welcoming people returning from town guided walks with glasses of champagne or wine. All staff were accommodating, including the room service people, the front desk, the wait staff and the officers. The food choices are excellent and very well prepared and served with unlimited complimentary wine or other drink. Also, there were many choices on a daily basis of tours, lectures, classes; truly something for everyone. We took the shuttle Viking provided free of charge to center Paris near the Petit Palais and walked for hours. We also took the Paris metro and went to the Musee Marmottan Monet and Sacre Couer in Montmartre. The Viking people did a great job at the US cemetery in Normandy; they organized a very moving ceremony and distributed roses for us to place on some of the graves. This was very much appreciated by all of us, I can tell you that. We'll not forget it. We highly recommend Viking cruises and plan to take others in the future. Read Less

We took this cruise as my wife had not been to Paris before. This was our first River Cruise and i cannot say one thing bad about Viking and their service. Just before we arrived i found out that our travel agent did not book the transfers. I called the ship direct form the states and was assured they would take care of us when we arrived at CDG and would handle all for us. They did without any problem and made it seamless. They pay attention to every detail while you are there. The entertainments is very good and Lionell our cruise director is amazing. The food was more than abundant and was outstanding in both taste and variety. The agenda was excellent, the tours were great and all the modes of transportation to get there was very comfortable. Now be aware that there are some things Viking cannot control. Paris had very wet spring and the Seine River was over the banks so they had to dock futher from Paris than they had planned. This just means a little more time on the coach than would have been and they pull it off without a hitch. We are doing another one and after that another. Read Less

This was my husband's first trip to Europe. It was thoroughly delightful. He was in seventh heaven with every historical venue from the Arch de Triomphe to the Normandy Beaches. The room was extremely nice, the food was exquisite, the service was superb. The only disappointment was the amount of time we had to tour Versailles with the group. We could have used at least another hour at the site. However, Napolean's Chateau later that afternoon was grand !! Given the proximity of those two sites...we should have lunched nearby instead of going back to the ship for lunch. That would have given us much more time at Versailles. Not only would we love to sail the Seine again but we have already booked the Rhine Getaway for next year..with a couple that we met on the Seine cruise. Thank you Viking for our 1st Grand Adventure !! There will be more ! Read Less

Quality of service, tours and boat. We have traveled with Viking before and chose to go again. We had exceptional food, were offered shorter walking tours and activities as well. The boat has lots of space and we like the moving round from table to table for meals to meet more people. The side trip to Normandy Beach was especially important as my father had landed in the same area during WWII. There was additional time at port in Paris in which we were able to connect with our German daughter (exchange student) and walk the streets of Paris. We are not shoppers who need additional items but did enjoy seeing outdoor markets, small villages and places for lunch or a drink. The staff was well organized and the processes for getting on/off the board were smooth. We had added the option of airport pick-up and delivery which went well. We have marked off one of our bucket list items with the Monet garden tour and village. Absolutely as we pictured. Bus drivers were friendly and informative. It should be emphasized that personnel in wheel chairs and walkers will have very difficult time. Read Less

to see Paris and Normandy. Cruise was done well in all aspects except there wasn't much cruising. We spent lots of time in LePecq, a suburb of Paris so the excitement of Paris nite life wasn't anywhere around. We were notified of this change well after we booked. We spent 3 days prior to embarkation at the Hotel Rochester in Paris and it was delightful. The trip to Normandy was especially touching and I will be forever glad for this moment. The staff were excellent and quite professional. The food was a little above average, surprising i thought as the reviews we read raved about it. I became sick on the first day aboard and the Cruise Director, Lionel, went well above and beyond duty to connect me with a local doctor and help get the necessary medications. Because of his help the trip went off smoothly. I would gladly sail with Viking again. Read Less
