We selected this cruise on the recommendation of our travelling companions. My wife and I have cruised extensively, but never a "river" cruise. As we are now retired, we also wanted to check a few things off the "bucket list" and Paris was high on the list. The travel from Eastern USA to Paris was lengthy. As we arrived on the day of embarkation, we brought with us a fair amount of jet lag. Next time we will make the time to spend 2-3 days at our destination first. Viking has such programs available, but we were unable to synch it with our fellow travelers. The reception and boarding were fuss-free. The Kadlin is a small but well appointed tri-deck ship that is well designed and easily accommodates the 320 or so passengers. As we cruised north to Normandy, the pace was slow and easy and the ride was smooth. Scenery was spectacular. The (included) excursions were well run and quite enriching. Our visits to Paris (day and night), Rouen, Les Andelys, Vernon (Monet's garden at Ginverny) and especially the Normandy beaches made indelible memories. The food was excellent and, of course, included in the fare...as was a fairly good wine selection with meals. The cruise director and his staff were friendly, very approachable and professional. The cabin and balcony was about the same size as we were used to on ocean cruises. Entertainment was good - but the aforementioned jet lag made us less than "party animals" the first 2-3 nights. The atmosphere of the ship was sedate - no kids and most passengers were retirees like us. This isn't Carnival.... The only "issue" we had was not Viking's fault. The tour of Versailles was cancelled at the last minute due to a French employee strike. I am given to understand that such actions are as frequent as rain there. The cruise director offered instead to bring us to Montserrat - which excited both myself and my bride - but the tour members on the bus "voted" to return to the ship. Instead, we spent the day in a local suburb of Paris and actually had a great time touring the local scene - but I would have rather seen Montserrat. Oh well. All in all, I will cruise again with Viking. Indeed, we are heading out to the Caribbean on an ocean cruise with them next month. These folks know their business and value your time and your patronage. Although I would expect no less, I rarely see it on many of the cruise lines I have used. Well done, gents. Read Less
