This was our second Viking river cruise. As expected, the entire experience was wonderful. Embarkation was smooth, the crew very friendly. Shout out to Urska, the hotel manager. She was great, always smiling and willing to assist. Chef Jozsef and his chefs did a lovely job with the food. Added treat, dinners on the Aquavit terrace while sailing. Glad to see a wider variety of shore excursions offered, like cycling and canoeing. Highlights were Monet’s Garden in Giverny and the D-Day Beaches. Included tour of Paris covered the highlights and gave us time to have lunch in Ile Saint-Louis. There were other opportunities to visit Paris at the end of the tour as well. One of the most enjoyable parts of the trip was being able to use the sun deck. Our first river cruise was on the Danube in November. Way too cold for the sun deck! Transfers to and from the airport were smooth. Another great cruise! Viking, we’ll be back! Read Less

On this cruise with friends. Some had been with Viking before, I had not. The flight was a little challenging, going thru huge airports but we were met with Viking rep. who kept us on track and got us where we needed to be. The cabins on the Kadlin were so very clean, the staff was excellent, no request was too much. I very much enjoyed the excursions the guides were very well informed and spoke very well. Every time we left the boat we were given water and the same on the return if not a little snack. The Captain made himself available all the time. There were activities on board to prepare for some excursions. The food was excellent, if you went hungry it was your own fault, Especially enjoyed the local foods prepared on board. Enjoyed the restaurant at the Omaha Beach Golf club, local dining at it's best (part of the excursion). Would love to do another cruise. Read Less

My family members and I wanted to see the sights in Paris. We were thrilled during the Paris excursions. In addition, we wanted to see Normandy to include the WWII beach landing sights and the cemetery. The excursions there did not disappoint. In addition, there were several other excursions that were noteworthy. One, in particular, was the tour of the fortress King Richard the Lion Hearted had built along the Seine River. This excursion was truly great. In addition to the excursions I was impressed with the smoothness and stability of the Kadlin. We never really new you were moving unless you looked outside. Finally, the support staff was wonderful. The service personnel were exceptionally nice and professional. Our servers in the Dining Room fully catered to our food and drink needs and requests. The food and drinks available were excellent. Overall, my family and I had a truly wonderful time. Read Less

It had exactly what we wanted. Several days in Paris before the trip, Paris itself, some usual tourist stops with a guide, the small town stops on the seine, and Normandy Beaches. History from Joan of Arc to D Day. Great ship, staff, etc. A family tragedy at home cut our trip short by a day, and the staff could not have been more supportive and helpful. Did their best to care of us. 1st class all the way. The excursions were quite good: informative, engaging, and surprising. From Monet's gardens to the streets of Vernon and it's churches and onward to the beaches of Normandy, we were taught a great deal. And to actually be standing in those spots was awe inspiring. I've always wanted to see Versailles. Now I have. All in all, this trip was all I could have (and did) imagine. The ship is the right size, the riverside scenery, the historical sites we stood at, are all a huge deal if you've never seen or been there. Read Less

This was my first Viking Cruise and I had many misconceptions of what it would be like. Well, to sum it up, it was fantastic. I brought my 30 year old daughter and we knew we would enjoy being together, but had reservations about our time on the boat. We could not have had more fun. We were impressed with how clean the entire boat was. Our cabin was wonderful and the French Balcony afforded us a beautiful view from our room. We loved the cruise director and enjoyed all of our trips outside of the ship. On the ship, everyone was extremely nice and enjoyed the special drinks from the bartender, as well as, the fantastic piano player. The food was great. We particularly loved the breakfasts and lunches. Plus, being able to have a lighter meal at night was a bonus for us. I enjoyed my trip so much that I have already booked one more trip this year and another next June. Unfortunately my daughter has a job so can't accompany me but all my friends are more than willing to come on a Viking cruise since I have told everyone how much we loved it. Good job Viking! We chose this line because it had been highly recommended by our friends. We were not disappointed. The crew bent over backwards to please. The food was delicious and the selections were out of this world. We also enjoyed complimentary wine and beer with lunch and dinner. The long ship was clean and the bed, particularly after a busy day of touring, was comfortable as well. We loved the itineraries which were varied and highly organized. Every day there was an included trip which highlighted the region we were visiting with always built in time to souvenir shop. The trips were informative and we were able to see many things and places before they got crowded. Two days after returning home we booked our second cruise and this time we will be cruising the Rhine. I can't say enough about this cruise line, they know how to do things right! Read Less

This was my husband's first trip to Europe. It was thoroughly delightful. He was in seventh heaven with every historical venue from the Arch de Triomphe to the Normandy Beaches. The room was extremely nice, the food was exquisite, the service was superb. The only disappointment was the amount of time we had to tour Versailles with the group. We could have used at least another hour at the site. However, Napolean's Chateau later that afternoon was grand !! Given the proximity of those two sites...we should have lunched nearby instead of going back to the ship for lunch. That would have given us much more time at Versailles. Not only would we love to sail the Seine again but we have already booked the Rhine Getaway for next year..with a couple that we met on the Seine cruise. Thank you Viking for our 1st Grand Adventure !! There will be more ! Read Less

We were interested in seeing Paris and the Normandy Beaches. Had never been to either of the locations before. We were somewhat disappointed in Paris but enjoyed the rest of the trip immencely. The food was not quite up to par with previous experiences but it was understandable being a new ship and crew. We found the French people to not be as warm and friendly as all the residents of other countries we have visited with Viking and other tour companies. This includes Australia,China,Russia and many others. The fact that we did not dock directly in Paris was quite disappointing and resulted in wasted time commuting between the ship and the city. Maybe if we had known this before booking the trip we would have gone with a different company. Viking has too much competition these days to make these mistakes. Perhaps the ship is too large for this tour. Never the less,we will travel with Viking again if the itinerary interests us. Read Less

Our first River Cruise. We had a group of 6 adults aging from 34 to 69. All of us absolutely loved this trip and experience. Everything about the trip is 5 star. One of the best crews that we have ever had on a cruise!!! The pre-cruise stay in Paris was also excellent and it was great to have the Viking guide available in the hotel. Transportation to and from the airport was extremely easy in Paris with the help of the Viking guide. They helped with our luggage and also guided us through the "maze" at the airport. In case there are middle age tourists who are "afraid" that the crowd will be too old: We were told that River Cruises only had "old" people as guests, so we were actually expecting the majority of the cruisers to be even older than we were. We found that while many were our age (mostly in the 60's), there was a variety of ages on board. I do think our son (34 yr old) was the youngest passenger; however, many of the crew, including the captain, were younger than he was. Even at his young age, he thoroughly enjoyed everything about the cruise! This type of cruise is probably not great for younger childen, but definitely is great for anyone over 18. Read Less

We had been on a Danube River Cruise with Viking years ago and we really enjoyed our vacation - everything was first class - food, service, accommodations, etc. Therefore, we decided to go on a Paris/Normandy trip this time around and we had such a wonderful time on the river cruise - along with the 3 day Paris extension - all through Viking with transfers included - Viking made our trip very easy for us! The food and service is just fabulous; the day trips - which are included in the price - were educational and fun; the ship was lovely - and the cabins are comfortable. The top deck has a track so you can get some exercise each day or you can sit and enjoy the sailing. The sights along the river are just beautiful - the homes, towns, churches are so lovely. Before dinner each evening, Viking staff discussed the following day's planned excursions - where we were going and what we would be seeing, etc. There was nothing that you would want or need. In Paris, we especially loved the illumination of the city in the evening - we felt ALL lit up - just like Paris itself! Viking river cruises more than met our expectations and we plan to take another Viking cruise next year - this will be our THIRD! Read Less

Wanted to see Paris and some of the french countryside. But the main reason for choosing this cruise was to go to Normandy. The tour of Normandy was good but way too short. we were able to see the Hi lites, but not enough time to explore the museum and see the films. Also would liked to spend more time at the memorial and try to find the graves of people from our state and town. Would liked to have been docked in Paris so we could see more of the city in our free time. Could have used a couple of days in the city to see more of the sights. I know this was a 7 day cruise and we did enjoy the tours we took. The ship and staff were excellent. The food was Excellent and plenty of it!. Our cabin was very comfortable and always cleaned when we were away. Read Less

We arrived in Paris two days before departure and went to the Palace of Versailles. It was spectacular! On Friday we were picked up at our hotel and brought right to our cruise ship. It was the maiden voyage of the Kadlin. The crew were there to meet us, offering us warm, moist towels to clean our hands. Our luggage was brought right to our rooms. Our 21 year old daughter traveled with us. We were a little concerned that the cruise might be too old for her. Not to worry. She met several other twenty-somethings and had a blast. She actually turned 21 on the ship and they brought out a cake with sparklers and sang. The ship had everything we could want. The room was well appointed and comfortable. We had a French balcony which was really nice. Our daughter had a standard room and while she didn't have a great view, she spent most of her time in the lounge. The only downside was the weather. It was very cool and overcast. We didn't spend much time up on the top deck. We are definitely going again and placed a deposit down for our next cruise. Would highly recommend Viking River Cruises.
