This was our 3rd cruise with Viking. All three experiences were A-1, Top Shelf, Some additiona busing on one,but we still had a fabulous time. The staff on our most recent cruise was particularly enjoyable. Mario the cruise director was knowledgeable and always ready to assist and answer any questions. The two game nights were especially entertaining. The wait staff in the dining room, were beyond delightful. Carman, one of the dining room captains, along with Chip, were a delight to be with, and they took the extra time to assure we had everything we needed. The staff in the lounge, led by head bartender Armando, and his trusty, knowledgeable duo of Robert and Matej, made sure whatever drink we desired was prepared, and prepared properly. The Chef and his staff always had a great menu planned, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner. My all time favorite, from a cruise in 2012, is the oatmeal. don't know how, but I've never tasted anything quite like it. In closing, Viking River Cruises, delivers a quality product.if you haven't been on one of their cruises, you should, you won't be diappointed. I'll be booking my next cruise later next year and can't wait to see the next adventure. Read Less

Traveled with several friends. We had not been to the countries and ports previously so it was a tremendous new experience. The cabin rooms very nice and plenty of room. The food was outstanding with good variety. The food service staff were very accommodating to prepare dishes we wanted even though it may have not been on the days menu. Basically this is a cruise for older adults, not for children. The service from cruise team was amazing. I would suggest going a little later in the year as weather would be warmer. We had to wear coats each day. Outstanding educational experience. Extremely enjoyable and memorable. Great pics. We recommend adding on extra days on front and end of cruise to have time to experience some nearby areas. Suggest you go as a group... the ship has great gathering space and opportunity to relax and socialize at various times especially after dinner in the evening. Read Less

My cousins live in Hungary and we traveled there a week in advance to visit with them prior to traveling to Eastern Europe which we never visited before. The Viking representatives arranged the air travel so this could happen. The hotel in Budapest was way above expectations! On board, the crew was awesome sharing information about what to expect and making sure we truly enjoyed our time on shore. The local guides were very informative. The food and entertainment was excellent as usual (this was our 4th river cruise with Viking). We truly enjoyed our waitress who knew in advance what we would like to drink before we ever sat down from breakfast to dinner. We have never been disappointed traveling with Viking. Even upon departure we were escorted the the airport where Viking representatives walked us through the aspects of foreign country routines. In fact we have been so impressed with Viking river cruising, their staff, and quality of our experiences that we have already booked our first Viking Ocean cruise for 2017. I can only imagine the splendor of such an ocean going vessel if it has an inkling of what we have experienced with the river cruises. Read Less

We wanted to cruise the Danube and see this part of Europe from the water. The cruise exceeded our expectations. It was extremely well organized, from soup to fish as the Brits would say. Our British host was funny and charming. The food was outstanding. All the cruise attendants were friendly, helpful and went the distance to be sure we had a great time. The extra tours were also well worth it. We had a back stage guided tour of the Vienna museum by the most knowledgeable docent who had been guiding for 20 years. One of a kind tour. The two abbey tours were also most interesting and we were delighted that some of our tour dollars were going towards their restoration. My husband really enjoyed all the locks we went through, and there were a lot. So not just pretty scenery; good infrastructure/engineering fun as well. We can't wait to do it again, in another location. We are looking at the Rhine cruise, to see more castles! Read Less

The Christmas Cruise on the Danube was probably the most incredible cruise I have ever taken. The all inclusive nature of the cruise, the marvelous land tours, and all this coupled with the natural beauty of the cities visited made the experience one that I will never forget. Kudos to everyone at Viking, from the reservation specialists to the crew aboard the boat. they were totally knowledgeable, professional, and helpful every step of the journey. The food was exceptional, especially to be noted are the "local" favorites served as we entered each port of call. The wines, especially the regional varieties were superb, and the service in the dining room was always excellent. there was nothing that they couldn't and wouldn't do to make every meal a memorable dining experience. The land tours were totally and expertly prepared and designed for every one of the passengers. The guides were each a fountain of knowledge, with considerable expertise about every place that we visited. The churches were spectacular and the architecture was a perfect example of the history of architecture through the centuries. And when we were back on board, the views as we cruised down the Danube were wonderful. the shores are lined with some of the most beautiful sights you could ever hope to see from the deck of your ship. In conclusion, the viking river Cruise on the Danube is an experience that I hope everyone has the opportunity to experience. If I could give advice to the readers of this review, it would be to plan your king cruise as soon as you can. Read Less

We needed to be in Budapest for Christmas and this was an opportunity to experience a possible White Christmas plus we always wanted to experience Christmas Markets. The service on the Jarl was exceptional, staff went out of their way without any problems to accommodate our dietary needs. We liked the fact that we had a Premium Alcohol Package and tips included. Shore excursions were imoressive and we got a chance to stroll through some of the Christmas Markets. We had a balcony cabin on the top deck, could not hear the neighbours and cabin was excellent. Like where the crew replenished body wash regularly and we necpver had to ask for anything, was a pleasure to chat to staff. Good was excellent, the Maitre D went beyond the call of duty to locate us each day to discuss our dietary needs for the day. It seemed no problem with our menu, the food was excellent. Enjoyed the activities where the pastry cook made Apple Strudel in the lounge. The tour of the galley was impressive as we realised how small it was to serve 250 people. Another pleasing aspect of the activities was bringing on board local people. to show and play their instruments, traditional dancing and singing but the highlight was the young school children from Budapest who along with their parents came onboard and sang both English and Hungarian carols, brought the house down and it was a pleasure to see the parents on board In all, an excellent river cruise. Viking Cruises you have done it again. Read Less
