We enjoyed this cruise with my parents, celebrating a milestone anniversary with them. It exceeded all of our expectations! From the friendliness of the staff, to the wonderful meals, to the fantastic excursions, to the cabin we stayed in...everything was top notch! The servers, stewards & bartenders quickly learned our names & our preferences. We went on each of the daily excursions, as well as two of the optional ones & enjoyed each one - not to be missed! The tour guides were so knowledgeable! The cruise director talks each night describing the next day's events was very helpful. Our absolute favorite day was the day on the boat that we sailed past all the castles & churches - history coming to life! There were so many choices at all of the mealtimes, both in types of food & where to dine. Evening entertainment was fun - we enjoyed the music trivia night. The ship, rooms & dining areas were all very clean. Our trip was delayed by weather so we missed the first day of the cruise & once we caught up to the boat, the staff went above & beyond to welcome us & help us get settled in. Would highly recommend Viking & will certainly be traveling with them again!! Read Less

Viking was by far the most beautiful boats out there on the Rhine! We had never been to Europe before. This was by far the BEST way to see Europe. down the Rhine River. The boat was Kept up and fresh all along the way. The food and it’s variety was really good. The staff gets 10 stars. They were absolutely superb. Every one of them. The daily included excursions were great and just the right mix of adventure and time. We loved everyone of them. Entertainment lacked a little but not a show stopper for us. Would have been mice to have a show or 2 onboard. I don’t have a negative word to say. This trip and boat by far met our expectations with a few surprises. We would take Viking again and again. The boats and the staff and the excursions and the food were the best Can’t wait to go again Read Less

We ended our perfect cruise with a disaster. Viking Air Travel cancelled our reserved Business Class seats from Zurich at the end of our post-cruise excursion. We paid $600 extra to "customize" our air travel thru Viking. We wanted to fly KLM and wanted to connect thru Amsterdam to go home. We did not want to deal with Paris airport transfer. 11 hours before our departure, we received an e-mail ( not a phone call) telling us we were now flying on Air France to Paris. We lost our reserved seats on KLM with 11 hours notice. When I called Viking Air Travel, I was told by the agent that the KLM flights were cancelled. I checked with KLM to learn that this was a lie. I called Viking back and spoke with Marta who put me on a 45 minute hold, only to return and tell me that the airline cancelled my reservation because the connecting flight was departing 5 minutes LATER than originally scheduled. How does that justify cancelling my seats? I have gone thru 2 supervisors who refuse to tell me why my Business Class seats reserved and paid 6 months earlier, were surrendered by Viking to other people. Our new flight did not allow my wife and I to sit together or pre-order our meals. We did not get the meals we wanted. We connected in Paris which was a nightmare. It is clear that Viking sold our seats for a profit and put us on another airline to make money. They have no regard for their customers and have no integrity in telling the truth. I will never use them again. Read Less

I understand that river cruises have smaller ships and therefore smaller cabins. This was my first river cruise and I can only compare it to Regent Seven Seas, Paul Gauguin, and Carnival. This is not an inexpensive trip and the price per day excluding airfare costs more than RSS and PG but not Carnival. Viking does not come close to RSS in terms of food quality and the quality of the included free excursions. Most free excursions are at most a short bus ride around town and a walking tour. Some were just a tour guide who met you at the dock. Well prepared food but not gourmet quality. Very friendly staff who went the extra mile. Cruise director seemed very friendly and knowledgeable. Unlike ocean cruises one afternoon/evening was spent traveling with a docking in Budapest at 10PM. Seemed like a wasted day to me. I would more than likely not return to Viking. Viking ocean cruises is the top rated line? Must offer a completely different experience. Read Less

Our past experience with Viking was excellent. The price was comparable to other lines. We like the Viking takes care of us in every aspect from the time we step off the plan to the boarding to return home. The itinerary was well planned giving us enough time to enjoy the ship and the stops and yet not boring. The commentary while traveling through the countryside was very helpful and interesting with history and folklore mixed in. The timing of our entry into Budapest was spectacular. It was such a wonderful surprise. Our cabin was small but adequate. The balcony type window made it possible to get fresh air and see the passing scenery while lying in bed. There was sufficient variety in the menu with a combination of buffet and service. The variety of items was quality rather than quantity. We preferred that. The dinner service was excellent. One evening we returned late to the ship because we had been visiting relatives. When the kitchen staff learned we had not eaten past the dinner hour, they provided a meal for us. The evening entertainment was modest but enjoyable. We are not "night people" so this was fine. The included shore excursions were good and well planned. The local guides and tours contracted were informative, and experienced in pacing the tours. The bus drivers were fabulous in their skill. We had no complaints about any of the arrangements Viking made. We did both the pre cruise and post cruise packages. Both were well worth the time and expense. We were introduced to things we didn't know existed! We love history and art, culture and food. This filled the bill. Read Less

We are 3 couples who usually cruise ocean ships but decided to travel across Europe by Viking Riverboat. As our excitement grew during the planning phase, we were joined by two other couples of friends. We were booking fairly late in the season so were lucky to get 5 cabins close together on the lower level. None of us had ever cruised with Viking before. We all thoroughly enjoyed the adventure and have become fans of Viking. All five couples are senior and do not share the same interests or physical abilities. We found the Viking cruise allowed us to be a group but still have independent activities. We requested and got the one table large enough to all of us for dinners so we ate together, sharing tales of our adventures that day. Actually we found another guest who was 93 traveling alone and managed to get him at our table as well. Our independence began with embarkation: three couples did the Viking pre-cruise tour in Budapest, another came one night early and booked their stay themselves and the fifth couple came straight to the ship from the airport. We all very much enjoyed Budapest. We all experienced a very easy embarkation procedure. Most of us usually travel in cabins with balconies so we were not sure how we would like rooms on the lower level with high windows. We all found this to not be an issue. During travel on the river we found going to the lounge or up on the outside decks offered an opportunity to see both sides of the river and gave the added benefit of enjoying visiting other passengers, A feature which we really enjoyed were the included tours. Viking usually includes one at each stop. All five couples used this basic tour to get an overview of the city or village and then we each did our own things for the rest of the time. One couple did extensive hiking tours; 3 couples often signed up for the optional tours in the city while the fifth couple stayed on board reading or touring near the docked riverboat. We enjoyed the itinerary across Europe, getting a good feel for the land as it changes across the countries. I remember our excitement at encountering the first lock but soon we were veterans of passing though locks and began assessing them on depth raised or lowered, as well as the length and size of the lock itself. By the end of the cruise we were talking about where we could go for our next Viking cruise. This one on the Viking Ingvi just got us started! Read Less

This cruise was my dream trip which was made possible as a retirement gift from my employer. From day one it did not disappoint. The cabin was nicely appointed and very comfortable. All of the excursions both included and optional met my expectations. The local guides were very informative and lots of fun; they made learning about the area enjoyable. The food aboard ship was outstanding. After a tour of the kitchen area, I don't know how such fine meals were produced in such a small space. Each night in the lounge we enjoyed games, entertainment and one night there was a glass blowing demonstration. I cannot say enough about the crew. They were all so accommodating, friendly and fun and I cannot say enough about our cabin steward, Novak---such a pleasant young man who kept our cabin in order in such a short amount of time. Viking made everything so easy, informative and enjoyable that I have booked a second cruise for fall of this year. Read Less

my wife and I wanted to celebrate this special anniversary in a grand fashion. Viking River a Cruises Grand European Tour looked to be just the answer. The choice was absolutely correct. Starting with a 2 day extension in Amsterdam and ending with a 3 day extension in Prague, we could have not been more pleased. INGVI is a beautiful vessel and the staff could not be better. As this was our first river cruise we were pleased with the closeness achieved with other passengers and the crew. Christine Couper was fantastic as Program Director. She maintained the programs regardless of the problems which materialized. Every crew member demonstrated such positive attitudes. There was nothing which they would not do to be sure the passenger was happy. Meals prepared under the direction of Denes Sookey were amazing. Michael Logtenberg the hotel manager was involved in everything necessary to keep things running smoothly, even to the point that one day I saw him loading supply's on board. You might see that I was impressed with the crew. As a manager for many years I know how important motivated personnel are. It is clear that Viking recognizes and accomplishes that result. I was also impressed with the high quality of the shore tour programs. Tour guides were professionals knowledgable of the venue and it's history. They related this to the passengers in a manner which was educational, personal, and with personality. Thanks to all for making this a trip to remember. Read Less

our first river cruise and it will not be the last. We could not be happier with the cruise provided by Viking. From the purchase through getting home everything was accomplished in a professional and helpful manner. We used. Viking to provide air service,as well as pre and post cruise city tours. The personnel of Viking were fantastic. The size of the ship allowed the staff to become close to the passengers. This was nice. When we departed fir home it was like leaving a close friend or family member. Tours were very well done. The program director worked overtime to be sure the passengers were entertained. Food was outstanding. This was our 50th anniversary celebration and we could not have been more pleased with our choice of tours. I highly recommend this for travelers of all ages. Read Less

We flew from Philadelphia to Amsterdam and were met at Schilpol Airport by a Viking agent. From there a Viking driver took us on the Viking coach to the Moevinpick Hotel. The hotel was wonderful-the food in the bar & restaurant( Silk Road ) was excellent. We were greeted at the reception desk with a warm welcome. Esther took us on a wonderful tour of the city-she is a great guide. After 2 days there we boarded the Ingvi at the port. Our cabin was more than we expected with ample room for everything we had. Suitcases went under the bed with no problem. Storage was enough for all that we had. Our program director, Nick Hale was THE BEST!!! He always had us laughing. Our waiters, Irinel, Ivo, were also wonderful, as were the bartenders, Sasha & George. Food was always good & plentiful. Our shore excursions were informative and the guides were well informed. To sum our trip up. I would absolutely go again on a Viking cruise. I have already recommended it to others. All in all, I loved everything about the journey. Thanks to all the crew. Read Less
