We plan to come again year after year. The destinations were amazing! The food and service is first class, truly 5 star! We will definitely travel the world with Viking, thanks again for everything! I just can’t write enough good words and praise for Captain Tomasz Danelski & his crew. Our trip was made incredibly memorable by Hotel Manager Alexandra Woods, Master Chef Nuno Maia (World renowned), Director Daniela Ebert, Maitre D’ Marci Jasinski, Bartender Extraordinaire Goska Kurowska! Also cannot ever forget The Legendary Dominika Lipska, Caramfil Florin Andrei and of course Rumen the Musician! We were on the Tobin James cruse. Some friends had been prior on Viking river cruise and raves about it. We loved every aspect of this adventure. The staff was the best, very helpful and informative. The shore excursions were on time and informative. Viking does it right as most of the excursions are all run by their employees and you can tell they love their jobs. The food was exceptional prepared the way you liked it and plenty of it. The ship was really quiet as when you were under power you never heard it. When they docked you never felt the banging and jarring as you feel on other ships. They are amazing shipmates. During the sail days the cruse director was very informative as what we were passing by, mostly castles and talking about the history of them. Also talked about the towns we passed. She was great with keeping us informed without being annoying. I’m summary it was the best cruse, love the small format of ship, never really felt like we were being hearded like cows as you do on the monster ships . Read Less

This was a family/friends group of 25 multi-generational and widely diverse persons traveling together (ages 18-82). We choose the Rhine Getaway Amsterdam/Basel for our 1 week journey with post-Lake Lucerne. With such a wide range of ages, as well as backgrounds, I wasn't sure it would appeal or be equally enjoyed by all - HOWEVER, each and everyone of us were beyond thrilled with the entire vacation. It Exceeded all of our expectations. From the second we all were met at the airport by our Viking Host, to the minute we stepped off, every detail was handled. The staff and crew went above and beyond to make our entire trip exceptional for the whole group! Ship is very bright airy and open with views from every space. Cabins very clean, updated, and provided tons of storage. Our cabin steward was never seen, but our cabins were always impeccably cleaned and I never came back to an unmade room. If you laid out laundry/or pressing, it was done and returned within the hour. I can not say enough about the quality of service. My group met in the lounge for a bon voyage cocktail once on board - the bartender asked each of us our name & from that point forward remembered us, as well as our drink of preference! The Lounge was a favorite hangout. The entertainment pianist was fantastic appealing to all ages and played to her audience - we looked forward to every night to "unwind" from our busy day - with some nights "wound-up" for a fun filled night of singing and dancing. They also had several other entertainment performers/talks which were excellent. The food was great, never disappointing, however, it would have been nice to maybe have a late night snack or food available in the lounge or terrace restaurant late evenings. The upside to that is they do allow you to bring on food/drink from ports, so many nights we sampled our purchases in from the village we toured each day. The 24/7 coffee bar was awesome and not really that far of a walk from anyone's cabin. The coffee/espresso selection amazing and the cookies every afternoon/evening the best! The program director was a wealth of info and always available as well as the officers of the ship. The Captain was always available to answer maritime history, or navigational questions as we floated down the Rhine. Especially while moving thru the locks, which was very interesting. There were a few glitches like the ship needed to move during one port stop for generator installation while we were on our included tour, but the crew made sure it was the least disruptive as possible. Made for a long walk from the city center - but honestly, not really a huge issue. They at least saw that maintenance was handled to not cause us to deviate from our itinerary or miss any port time. One last note, as most, the initial reaction for the group was this trip would be an expensive vacation. HOWEVER, by the end, we all felt like it was a total value & exceptional price for everything included and the level of service that we each received. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Read Less

We decided on a Viking River boat cruise for our honeymoon. Being my first cruise, I was off unaware of what to expect. Yet, my husband had been on a few previously and only heard amazing things via his colleagues and or friends. It was one of the best decision we made, as the entire experience was extremely enjoyable! What made it such, was the crew of the Hlin. Candi, was superb in every aspect. She made each transition, every port, every excursion, amazingly smooth and simple! Michael, the hotel manager, made our stay effortlessly. So many amazing members of the crew on the Hlin, I could not name just a single person as they all made our experience wonderful! Not to mention, everyone was also extremely courteous. If you are at all thinking of booking a river boat cruise, Viking is the only way to go! The entire experience was about the countries and the culture. So, by far the best option! Read Less

Went on a Rhine River cruise, it was great despite a little cool weather & a little snow on the Black Forest tour. did the add on 2 nights in Lake Lucerne, took a boat ride on Lake Lucerne, really helped with jet lag, did our own extension in Amsterdam which was wonderful. Highlights for me were the Black Forest , Kinderjick to see the windmills up close, Strasborg,France , saw the Storks up high in their nests, now reading a book about the history of the Middle Rhine & all the castles. The huge cathedral in Cologne was very interesting & saw unbelievable pictures of how it survived post -WWll while everything around it was destroyed. Everything went smooth, room was good food was great, nice low keyed entertainment on board, very fun Octoberfest night, definitely plan to go again in the near future. Maybe I will do the Danube next, definitely recommend the pre & post trip, as so worthwhile to see more while you are in those parts of the world. Read Less

It has always been my dream to visit Christmas markets in Germany during Advent. I had heard about bus tours but that was not what I wanted to do. Then I heard about River cruises that offered this. It was on my bucket list as of that day. Viking offered the best tour for our requirements. We arrived in Amsterdam 3 days early and explored the city and met up with friends. On sailing day, we arrived at the port in Amsterdam and were met by wonderful Viking staff and our boarding was very swift and effortless. We have done a few Caribbean cruises with Royal Caribbean where it's extremely busy and takes quite a while. The cabin was beautiful, modern and clean. The ship was beautiful and the staff very friendly. Every meal was better than the night before and always a lot of variety. I really enjoyed the girls Choir that was brought on board one evening while we were docked. They sang local and Christmas songs and it was wonderful. Our pianist for the trip (Angel) was outstanding. Every port had something unique to offer. I really liked the headsets where you could listen to the commentary of a LOCAL guide who was always so knowledgeable and proud of their city. Then afterwards we were free to explore the Christmas markets that were in that city. When asked afterwards what was my favourite, I said everything as it was all so amazing. The service of the staff was outstanding. There was a mix up of items purchased at a vendor while on a shore excursion. When I went to the front desk to see if an announcement could be made so that I could exchange my package with the person who received mine, no one came forward at that time. However, after returning home, I received a call from Viking giving me someone's contact information (with their permission) as they were the one who also had the wrong items. We then contacted each other and exchanged our purchases. This is truly going above and beyond regular customer service. The lady who cleaned our cabin was amazing - she did a wonderful job, quick, polite, friendly and was always working and had a smile and hello every time we saw her during the day. My one and only complaint was Viking Air. We purchased and paid for our cruise 10 months before we travelled and yet we couldn't get seat assignments until we checked in for our homeward journey. I was told that this is the class of fare that Viking Air chose to purchase for us but honestly, after having our money for 10 months, surely a class of fare could have been purchased where seat assignment was allowed. As it turned out, we were able to sit together after visiting the consierge desk but it was an unnecessary stress for us. I like the ability to use Viking Air vs booking our own but may not use it again for this reason and I have heard others complain about it also. Read Less
