Viking was recommended to us by friends who had used them several times. We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and looking for something special. We let Viking handle our Air, which was a great choice. We flew First Class,, which was the right idea.
All the transfers were seamless, and so nice to see a friendly greeting when we arrived in Paris.
Hotel accommodations were ...
We chose this cruise for our 25th Anniversary trip. The ship is beautiful and perfect sizing to not be overwhelming. The staff was nice and the itinerary decent. Now that we’ve completed the trip, I would rather have had more time in smaller towns and less in Lyon. 2 days docked in this city was too much. For the timing of this cruise, there was a theatre festival in Avignon adding 30,000 people ...
This is our first trip on Viking and since it was a flash sale, it was a real bargain. Viking has excellent service and makes transportation really easy when you book air through them. The included excursions had decent tour guides and we loved the steam train ride. The stops were interesting with lots to do.
We had the basic room but the windows were big, compared to portholes on a Uniworld ...
I had not been to the South of France before and enjoyed the lovely countryside and small villages and towns. The local guides were very good and interesting in their commentary. My personal favorite was the village of Viviers. Our guide had a personal history with the village and lived in the old part of it. Her commentary was interesting and humorous. I also enjoyed cruising through the ...
The Viking cruise experience is always terrific, and this one continues in that tradition. The Hermod seems to be a newer ship and is beautifully yet tastefully laid out. This particular river cruise did not have a lot of opportunities for viewing from the decks, but the interior experience was luxurious and all of the designated stops were interesting destinations. The food, both on an off the ...
We wanted to see France via the Rhone. After the cruise we went to Paris and then to Normandy (via trains). The cruise more than passed our expectations. The crew could not have been better--welcoming, friendly and wanting to please. One of the hi-lights was Giuseppe--the piano player. He was a gift to our experience and we enjoyed him tremendously. Thank you for hiring him! The food was ...
Viking has a wonderful reputation. It is well deserved. The River Cruise far exceeded expectations. The transfers to the ship were well planned and effortless for the guests. The staff were exceptional. They were competent, professional, personable, helpful, welcoming and warm. They made our time on board very enjoyable. They were concerned with the guests comfort. Great suggestions about food ...
I liked the idea of seeing the Provence area and I loved going thru all the locks. From the moment we stepped onto the boat, we were helped with everything we needed. The food was wonderful and the excursion leaders were all very knowledgeable. My only problem was that we scheduled ourselves too tightly and never got to really experience just sitting on the boat and watching things go by. Next ...
Had a terrific cruise on Viking Hermod, our first river cruise, Lyon to Avignon. Did a 3-day pre-extension in Paris. The hotel was excellent, great location & services; we also did a non-Viking one-day to Normandy on our own through Viator, great way to spend a partly rainy day. Great airport transfer DeGaulle to the hotel, our own personal limo/SUV; easy travel Paris to Lyon on TGV, Viking reps ...
I can’t give enough praise to Viking cruise line. We loved the idea of traveling from the south of France to Lyon and chose Viking due to their reputation. We were not disappointed. Tours everyday that were included with top local guides. Fascinating bits of history in each stop. Some favorites were Avignon Palace of the Popes tour, Arles with the ancient amphitheater and places where Van Gough ...
