Fantastic ship with a few shakedown logistics issues

Review for a Canada & New England Cruise on Viking Octantis

We've enjoyed three Viking European river cruises, so when we heard the line was launching expedition boats in the Great Lakes, we decided it was time for an adventure afloat in our own country. We had to overcome a few hurdles: the ArriveCAN vaccination requirements, the VeriFly "ready to travel" standards for the airline and the 72-hour COVID-19 testing window to get on board (which applied only ...

This was the return trip of the first Niagara & the Great Lakes expedition on the brand new Octantis. We chose it because we'd never seen the Great Lakes and we wanted to cruise but wanted to do it as safely as possible as the pandemic was still going on. There were only 360 passengers and 200 or so staff on the ship and Viking did in-house Covid testing on everyone everyday. It was very easy, ...

I grew up in Cleveland, OH and was always in love with the Great Lakes. The bulk cargo freighters coming and going from the Port of Cleveland gave my young mind fertile ground for imagining the far away places these vessels visited. So when we saw this cruise and were looking for something special to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary and my 74th birthday, it looked perfect. Viking is a ...

We chose this cruise because of the great reviews/ratings about Viking. The ratings were well deserved. The food and crew were simply amazing! Negatives: 1. We were on the first sailing leaving the US (second sailing of the route) which resulted in finalizing the shore excursion list later than advertised. 2. Less than a week before sailing they shifted the check in to the airport vice the ...

We wanted to see more of the Great Lakes than we could by driving and this looked like the perfect opportunity. This cruise began in Toronto, with stops in Port Colborne, Point Pelee, Detroit, Alpena, Mackinac Island, ending in Milwaukee. This was the largest passenger ship in the history of the Great Lakes and it received lots of attention from the media and those on shore. Viking ...

What's not to like about a Viking cruise? This was my first cruise with Viking, and they did not disappoint. I was bit concerned about not being able to book dinner in the MDR or the one specialty restaurant for more than 2 nights, but then we found the World Cafe to be an excellent choice for every meal. And I usually avoid the buffet on major cruise lines. It was actually better than the ...

We wanted something different and didn't want a transatlantic flight. Our journey to the Great Lakes region fit the bill. It was so much fun watching the reaction of those on shore as we sailed by in our magnificent ship. If you don't want to be immersed in an educational experience, this may not be your itinerary. The ship itself was so fascinating, as was the lab measuring microscope plastic ...

This was first cruise for Viking one the great lakes. We started out in Toronto, CA and had great time seeing everything. I especially enjoyed going through the Welland Cannel. The trip was focused on opportunities to learn about everything from the war 1812 to the amazing wild life we got see at the many stops. We are going to do this again in 2024 to see the upper part of the great lakes. ...
