My Wife and I chose this particular cruise for several reasons. We both have motion issues when it comes to ocean voyages, so we hoped the river cruise would be more comfortable for us and it was very smooth. Another key attraction to this particular cruise was the availability of a french balcony room. With our quick decision to take a cruise, it was great to secure this great room. The room was snug as expected, but more than met our needs. Storage for suitcases under the bed was a huge feature and storage in general was more than adequate. I also thought the bathroom was very well designed to give the user as much elbow room as possible. Our room was well insulated for noise and very quiet. The ship, Egil, was reserved elegance, classy, not showy. Perfectly designed for giving the passengers a wonderful environment for river cruising. I can't say enough about the crew and staff. Very professional, helpful and friendly, not a combination you always find. We enjoyed getting to know several of the staff members on a personal basis. The food was excellent. Breakfast was a huge feast. They covered all the bases. Lunch was light, as it should be, but very well done. Dinner was delightful every night. I had the "local" meal every dinner and was wonderful. The wine and beer selections were more than adequate. We decided to go with the beverage package--it worked out well for us. The excursions were fantastic. Absolutely loved Budapest and the tour. Some excursions were better than others, but we enjoyed them all. Can't wait to take another cruise with Viking. Read Less

Loved the itinerary and especially wanted to return to Budapest having been there 30 years ago when it was still Communist. I also am of Hungarian heritage. Also, the rest of the itinerary appealed to me and I wanted to cruise the Danube. This was my third river cruise on Viking and they never disappoint. I am now planning a Viking ocean cruise. As you can see, I’m committed! The Egil was beautiful, the staff amazing, the food wonderful, and the tours very, very good. I’ve done the Paris to Normandy cruise, Amsterdam to Basal, and this Nuremberg to Budapest. I can’t pick my favorite since each one was incredibly good. I have told many people about my trips and extolled Viking’s praises. In fact, to date, I have nothing negative to say about any of my experiences. I would very highly recommend Viking cruises to anyone at any time. thank you. Read Less

We wanted to do something Special for our 45th Anniversary! We have had our eye on a River Cruise, so Viking commercials got our wonder going. We chose the Danube Cruise mostly because we wanted to see the sights of Europe. We chose wisely, the ship Egil was just the right size. Embarkation was smooth from the airport to our port in Passau. There was always someone there to make us feel we were in the right place. Boarding the ship was easy, inviting, clean and exciting. Our cabin was beautiful & all the comforts of home with a beautiful view off our room. Dining was easy, we sat where we liked and met new friends that we ended up chumming around with! Our waiter was pleasant, funny and took care of our wants & needs. The food was delicious, got to try new things! Always such a variety, and to have a glass or two of wine with lunch & dinner was a plus! Entertainment was just alright, nothing elaborate. Cabin Service was okay, we were missed the first day and had to ask if there was daily service....(our gal was stationed on the bottom floor and we were on the top floor, so we didn't see much of her) We REALLY enjoyed having an Included Port Excursion in EVERY Port. Beautiful countryside to walk around in and we took great advantage of our time off the ship. All in All it was a Wonderful Cruise!! Read Less

We wanted to try a river cruise and see the Danube and that part of Europe.. Loved everything about it food and service were excellent!! Favorite place was Budapest but each stop was interesting. Everyplace we stopped we could either walk into town or they had Viking buses to take us, the tours were wonderful. They also had choices for folks who wanted to walk more and others who wanted to go more on the bus. We added on time both before and after the cruise. We started our trip in Berlin and spent a few days, than on to Nuremberg to catch the boat. After we got off the boat we spent extra time in Budapest than rented a car and traveled to Slovenia and Croatia for another week, both beautiful and very interesting. We were there late Oct. to mid Nov. weather was great sunny and clear but not hot, probably in the 40's. Perfect for sight seeing with a warm coat. We will do another river cruise in the future. We choose this cruise because we got to spend an extra 2 days on board compared to the similar cruise for this year. We spent 2 days in Vienna and got to make a stop prior to reaching Budapest while spending just 1 day as part of the cruise ashore at the beginning and end of the trip. We been to both Budapest and Bamberg/Nuremberg on prior cruises. We crave the time on board and the beauty of the river and the towns/villages along the way. We so look forward to dinner in the dining room. We make friends with so many people - passengers and crew alike. Viking always give us fantastic service. We were upgraded from a French balcony to deluxe veranda and loved it. Either cabin would have been fine but it's nice to have a balcony to take pictures from. We've had 5 cruises with Viking - 4 river and 1 Mediterranean cruise so we know what to expect and Viking has never disappointed us. They've always been great. Read Less

We choose Viking for our cruise because of the great reviews we received from friends and family who had enjoyed the Viking experience. Our own experiences confirmed and indeed exceeded the reviews. Everything about the Viking experience was first class. The cabin (Veranda) was well appointed, spacious, and luxurious. The dining experience exceeded our expectations, with food, drink and service of the highest quality. The ports and shore excursions were interesting, expertly conducted and thoroughly enjoyable. All of this combined to make the Viking cruise experience memorable, but there is a more important aspect of the Viking experience most worthy of mention, the ship's crew. Captain Chaplynskyy radiated a calm professional aura of confidence. He was ably assisted by his assistants who constantly amazed all with the sure confidence with which they handled the ship, even during the delicate entry and exits from the locks. One always had the sense that safety was the most paramount concern. Mr. Davis Thomas is deserving of special mention, not only for the expert discharge of his cordial duties as our host, but for the extraordinary leadership climate he created among the staff, from dining to housekeeping everyone person with whom we came in contact radiated a special sense of caring. Our tour manager, Anthony Papandrea was outstanding!!!! Read Less
