We had always wanted to do a European Riverboat Cruise. It was everything we had hoped for and more. The dining and entertainment was excellent, the crew and the wait staff were extremely friendly, courteous and professional. There were get togethers with the tour director every night in the lounge, showing us videos of the different ports of call and what we could expect to see and the shore excursions were well organized and really gave you an insight into what life was like in the different countries that we visited. Before the cruise even started, the airlines lost both of our bags of luggage. We can't say enough about how helpful the crew was in trying to get our luggage back. They spent an enormous amount of time with us, compiling lists of what articles of clothing we thought had been lost, filling out forms to submit to the airlines and making countless calls to the airlines in an attempt to find our luggage. We had purchased two days of clothing in Amsterdam, assuming we would get our luggage back soon and the cruise ship washed, dried and ironed our laundry every day for free until we got our first bag of luggage back, which wasn't until one week into the cruise. Hats off to all of them, they were fantastic. Between the magnificent scenery, the excursions, the local cuisine and the onboard experience, it was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations we've ever had. We're already booked on another Viking Cruise in October of 2020 and we can't wait. For us, Viking lived up to the expectations and we would highly recommend it. Read Less

Of all the cruises that I have taken (Viking, Princess, Carnival, Holland America), this was by far my most favorite! The boat was beautiful with an open, airy feel to it. The Veranda Suite was elegantly furnished and equipped and was extremely comfortable with plenty of room for all of our stuff. Fresh flowers and towels daily. The dining choices were beautiful with great menu choices served by attentive and gracious staff. The lounge was very comfortable with a well stocked bar and amiable crew and delightful entertainment. The tours were wonderfully well organized, great fun and very educational and interesting. The local tour guides were very knowledgeable, informative, and entertaining. Most of all, our Tour Director, Chantal, was absolutely outstanding! She was informative, gracious, helpful, attentive to our individual needs, and approached even the most challenging challenges with a great sense of humor. Our experience was so wonderful we have booked 2 more cruises with Viking and look forward to more great times ahead. Read Less

Since we were planning on this being our trip of a lifetime, we chose the best, Viking. Your reputation for excellence tipped the scale to you. We booked a year in advance taking out trip insurance to be safe. Well we almost needed it. My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma. With 25 brain tumors during the year we weren't sure we could go. However, she was cleared to take the trip the week before we left. Neither of us had been on a trip like this before, and had no idea how it would go. We found out it was quite challenging due to her health and mobility. However, we persevered with the help and support of our wonderful crew, passengers and local europeans. It was wonderful!!!!! We were amazed by the entire itinerary. Wonderful sights and people. Our crew and guides were excellent. So well organized and able to react to every obstacle thrown at them. The most amazing thing was how the crew and corporate were able to complete our trip after the actual cruise had to end after 11 days. The freighter that ran aground in the middle of the Danube really could have been a compete trip killer. However, you managed to find busses, restaurants, hotels and a last night dinner cruise in Budapest. All first class hotels and restaurants. We are firmly convinced no other cruise line could have pulled that off!!! We cannot say enough about your cruise line and our crew in of the Bragi in particular. From the stewards, waiters, bar tenders, chef, cruise director and staff were just wonderful. If we could we would want the same crew again!!! We are not sure if her health will allow it, but we would definitely cruise with you again. We tell every one we know that if you want a first class trip Viking is the way to go. Well worth any difference in price over the others. Thanks again for our Trip of a Lifetime!!! Read Less

We enjoyed the different ports of call each day and the excursions. All of the excursions were conducted in English and very informative. In addition we signed up for additional excursions that were also very nice the transportation at each port was conducted with top notch transportation busses and we were very impressed we have been on several cruises on different cruise lines. The Viking river cruise boats were very nice and clean. We would definitely use Viking cruise line again. We met lots of people from all over and everyone was very nice. The entire crew were by far the nicest group of people and they made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We can’t think of anything that was a negative during the cruise. Read Less

We heard Viking was the best from others, they did not disappoint. It has been years since we were in Europe the transition from airport to ship in Amsterdam was flawless. Once on board we were very pleased with our accommodations, stateroom was just what we envisioned. The crew was fantastic, especially the servers and the Program Director. Not knowing what exactly to expect we only took part in the included tours, they gave us pleanty of time to explore on our own. We really liked the schedules allowing us time to explore the ports on our own. we fount the food to wonderful, nice choices from contentnal breakfast, full breakfast bar, lunches on the deck were an added pleasure. Dinners were well done, the options (local fare and specialitydishes) were well done, made us remember the times we were statiioned ini Germany. All in all, it was the best vacation we have ever had. The ship is small and it made getting to know the passengers very easy. The dinner seating was open and we took advantage of that to meet as many people that we could. The meals were all very good with a good selection of wines and beers to go with the meals. The entertainment was of a cozy dinner theater nature. We enjoyed it very much. We mostly went on the free excursions and enjoyed them very much. Excellent walking tours. We especially enjoyed Budapest at the end of our trip. We stayed at a very nice hotel in he castle district. We were able to do a lot of walking in the castle area. Another favorite stop was in Vienna. We attended a very nice concert enjoying Viennese music. All together a wonderful trip. Read Less

The excursions were fun and educational. Did I mention that the food was awesome? Tasting the different wines that were served was fun. I became somewhat of a wine snob. Your fellow travelers are great also. Some of the nicest people we have ever met. Many have traveled many times before and thought that Viking does an outstanding job. Would I do it again? Enjoyed our river cruise trip with Viking Bragi from Budapest to Amsterdam having already cruised with them in China. The only complaint I have, and it is a big one ! Is that the sundeck is closed for half of the trip!! Didn't know the reason why until I returned to the UK and found out that there had been a major crash on another Viking ship the previous year. Two crew died at night when the wheelhouse struck a bridge ! So now as a safety measure the sundeck is closed down throughout the canal part of the trip, which to be quite honest did ruin the holiday. So yes my wife and I enjoyed all the places we visited with Viking, but not be able to exercise on the sundeck, or take a stroll, or just relax in a sun lounger ruined what was an enjoyable trip. The food overall was really good, and our cabin level 2 with balcony was cosy with a really comfy bed. The service was very good, and the cruise director Kane was outstanding, we even got him to sing one late evening when most folk had retired to bed. There were two resident singers, a husband and wife team called Sundown who were okay, he played the piano and also sang. There was free wine with your meals, or spirits, and unlimited tea or coffee throughout the trip from a machine on level 3, which was okay but not Starbucks ! The excursions were very informative, and most of the guides were very knowledgeable. We have been back now a few weeks so cannot always remember all that we did, but we had a really good time, and met some interesting people , and made some good friends with 2 couples from the USA. We have already booked a cruise with them for next July with the Celebrity Reflection. We did look at a Viking ocean cruise to the same area, the Greek islands and Italy, but the cost so much more. Overall our trip was fabulous as the pros outweighed the cons, and for that reason I would rate this holiday 8/10 Read Less

It fit our needs and prices. It was well rated and one our friends sailed on last year - they raved about it. o Our Cabin was always clean and well maintained. We never wanted for anything. When I got the motion sickness on an excursion, I was never left alone and was well cared for. Even as we looked for medication and clothing on a national holiday we were guided and cared for. As we walked across Strausberg, our guide was conscious of my pace (I couldn't get in a car at all) and let me set the pace. Thus we saw things the others probably didn't! Our guides! Amazing! Only the guy at the windmills was a little off beat. Yet everybody was a master storyteller and historian. AMAZING! We got the local folk history as well as the true history in ways that are still sticking with me. The guides were also personable and easy to befriend - so cool. We actually went to a pub with one to experience the smoked beer. A couple of the lectures were not exactly good - rather boring at times. Food and dining was incredible and I am surprised I didn't gain weight. The chef was excellent and quite entertaining. The special meals were incredible and so much fun. My opinion of the nightly singers was only so so. Kane was entertaining, knowledgable, and there for us as was the rest of the crew. Not sure a river cruise like this is for children as they would get bore I thinkn. Would I go again? YES! Read Less

Always wanted to take this cruise. The ship Bragi was spotlessly clean. The service was simply outstanding by all the crew members and the food (all 3 meals per day) was high quality gourmet. There were multiple choices on the menu for each meal. Hard to believe Viking delivers such high quality food 3x/day for 15 days... much better than the restaurants we dined at in several villages/towns/cities we visited during the cruise. Also, a variety of European beers and wines were served with lunch and dinner and there was champaign available at breakfast... all complimentary. Included excursions were well organized. One of the nice parts of the excursions was the daily walking tours conducted by professionals. Every travel detail was planned for by Viking from flight schedules, seating, airport departures, transfers... every detail !! Viking knows its customer audience exceedingly well and delivers. This was our first viking river cruise, but we hope it not to be our last! What a wonderful trip, my husband is a bilateral amputee, so the size of the ship and ease of the tours was just perfect for us. On a regular cruise ship it would take 30 to 60 minutes to get off the ship from our stateroom, (at least for us), but it took us 10 minutes to get from out stateroom and on the tour bus that was parked right outside the ships' dock. We loved having included tours as well as optional tours. The staff was so wonderful, and food was fabulous. I did research to find the BEST trip for the price! I had been on a lot of Cruises around the Mexico and the eastern and western Caribbean. We were just burned out on ....the USUAL CRUISE. It got to the point where we didn't even leave the ship. This would be the trip of a life time and just me and my WONDERFUL WIFE! Everything VIKING promised they came about! Our travel agent took care of our demands to the TEE! The only thing we hated was the trip over and back!!! ALL NIGHT!!! YUCK! The security was a pain in the BUTT, but we knew it was worth it! When VIKING got hold of us, everything was PERFECT! The SHip was nice and new and clean and the personnel were the BEST! Our Cabin wasn't the Taj MAHAL , but was Fine! THe food was the BEST, not like on a cruise on the Caribbean , but very, very good! We even received tours of the kitchen , which has never happened before for us and it was a real treat to meet the people that did such a GREAT job preparing our meals!!!! The service was excellent. We didn't do a lot of paid shore excursions , but the ones we did were WORTH IT!!!! We prefer to see the land on our own together! AND.......we never felt unsafe! We chose this cruise because of the length,15 days and the number of places we would get to visit, 4 countries. I would love to do it again. There was so much to enjoy that I'm sure we missed something! Good thing the majority of shore excursions required walking because the food was plentiful and delicious. The included and optional shore excursions were the history, art & architecture types that we love. All of our guides were very fluent in English and knew their topics well. We found the nightly newsletters of the next days events with suggestions for alternate activities invaluable. The booklet of the trips itinerary etc. sent ahead of the cruise was also invaluable. Wonderful crew that made the transition to another ship for the passengers, required due to high water, as smooth as silk. Viking arranged our air travel and transfers which saved me a lot of heartburn. I do wish the flight home had been more direct. Read Less

I have been on many cruises but never have I experienced a staff that could care less about you! I had expected a higher level of service given the price. Nope. I expected the land tours to be good. Only a few of them were as they only used local volunteers. The food was mediocre. I would compare it to a Denny's on most nights. Here are examples: I injured my food getting off of one of their buses. No one bother to tell any of us that 2 people in the prior bus has tripped over the same small rolled curb (in all honestly blended in). I was brought on board and told I could go to the hospital the next day at the next city. I am young, so it wasn't a problem for me. The head of housekeeping accompanied us on the drive to the hospital (complaining the entire time about the stupid questions people ask and he was glad to be off of the ship away from the customers). He ditched us as soon as we checked in to the ER. Wasn't a minor injury - tore many ligaments in the ankle and I have to see a specialist because it still swells on occasion. (Sucks when you try and run 3-4 miles a day.) While on board, you could hear staff yelling at other staff members. The meals are at specific times only. Do not arrive late or you will not be feed. There are no h'oeuvres out at any time. Not even cheese and crackers. It is free sitting, but they will NOT take your order until the entire table is sat (you could wait 15 - 20 minutes). Do not ever expect to get your iced tea refilled. Now the wine and beer - they do keep that flowing! You have VERY little time on land. The river is like an LA freeway. You have to get usually after 3 hours in town because of the wait time for the locks. This was explained to us by the staff. I get it - but you need to tell people beforehand. As I said, the tours were very hit and miss. Some guides were great - some were awful. I spend most of my time in a beautiful city with a tour guide that spent most of the time talking about a US movie that was filmed there. Seriously - let's go here to see this where this was filmed, then let's go there to see where such and such scene was filmed. Remember these are free guides provided to the cruise line by the historical society. They can say and do whatever they want. Some are experienced, some have to do it for a college course. Oh, one more thing. We were told (by calling the Viking - who we booked the cruise through) that there was a gym. No gym and definitely no walking or running on the walking path. It is right above cabins and there is no soundproofing! Our friends said they could hear every footstep. On the great side - we met amazing people. We are still in contact with several couples and do see them. Read Less

We had a frantastic time. We could not express in words what it is like to walk through Amsterdam. We did arrive on a Long Weekend for the Nerthlands, however, the number of people passing through the City was unbelievable. Dealing with the bicycle paths was the interesting. The Viking buses collected us at the Airport and delivered us to the ship. The ship was not docked downtown. Viking operated shuttle buses to the centre of town; it was great. The information provided on board was timely and informative. First night we had a meet and greet with Ship's Staff. The food was great. Service and attention to the needs were perfect. This was our third Viking river cruise, and certainly not our last. The Bragi simply reinforced our love of river cruising. The entire ship's company were outstanding, and the best ambassadors the Viking company could ever ask for. From the moment we were met at the airport, to the time we were quickly checked in and escorted to our cabin was a welcomed relief. Like most of our cruise mates, we travelled a great distance just to get to Amsterdam, and we were completely exhausted after a long flight from Los Angeles USA. So, to be treated so kindly, and taken to our Explorer Suite, where we were overwhelmed by the luxury and magnificent view from our cabin was much more than we expected. Viking dinning is always a fantastic experience, if you are willing to enjoy foods you would never eat on a normal basis. The Bragi was no exception to the Viking concept of gourmet dinning. What an experience, everyday was a different dinning adventure for us, and we truly enjoyed the chef's recommendations, combined with our waiter's knowledgeable and delicious wine pairing. We recommend purchasing the the Viking drink package, so you can really enjoy your total dinning experience. The entertainment was fabulous, and personal. The Bragi has a relaxing intimate nightclub atmosphere, that is simply a great time to catch your breath from a full day of shore excursions, and enjoy the company of other quests and crew members. We tried to do as many shore excursions as we could in every port, and we enjoyed each and every one of them. Now, I can only speak of our own personal Viking experience, and we have not been disappointed with any of our three cruises. All are completely different; China, Russia, and the Netherlands, but still wonderfully unique memories for us. River cruising is not for everyone, but if you just go with the flow, it can be a very different and rewarding adventure. If you are the type of person who needs more time on shore excursions, my suggestion is to add land time to your travels either before or after your cruise, so that you can experience things at your own pace. You've already paid for your airfare, and you have the power to arrive and depart on your own personal timetable. Of course this really depends on the amount of time you have available for your vacation. The best part of this cruise was the entire ship's company, and we can hardly wait to someday set sail once more with the Bragi across Europe. Good traveling to all. Read Less

This was my wife and I's first river cruise and we really enjoyed it. We started in Amsterdam then visited Kinderdijk, Antwerp, Bruge & Ghent, the Delta Works, Delft, Amsterdam again, and Arnhem before ending in Amsterdam. This is not the same schedule that was on the Viking web site. That time of year there are so many cruise boats in the Netherlands that not all can do the same route. We only learned of the change when our cruise package arrived month before the cruise. The cruise format was great. We breakfast onboard followed by an included walking tour most mornings, back on board for lunch then free time ashore or an optional tour. Back on board for supper then the ship sailed. The walking tour guides all spoke English very well. There were a fast and a slow group but you definitely need to be able to walk at least a couple miles to do the tours. If you do not do the tour there is little to do onboard although there was a small library and a good selection of movies to watch. My two favourite excursions were to Brugge and Horne. Both small towns with lots of history. The home visit in Horne was very interesting The North Holland excursion was also very interesting it included a visit to the old floating vegetable market (now a museum) and it was interesting to see the tulip beds as we rode for an hour on the bus. The Keukenhor Gardens are amazing with its millions and millions for flowers. I did not visit this trip but I have visited the Airborne museum in Arnhem. It is well worth a visit. Watch the movie a Bridge to Far before visiting to get the most out of your visit. If you are staying in Amsterdam and want to see the Rijksmuseum go in the early morning, by 10 AM there are long lines. If you want to visit Ann Frank House book in advance, the lines are even longer. I found the Maritime museum very interesting. The ship was very well appointed with what I would describe as nordic furnishings. The cabins are small but have every feature we needed. We were is the lowest level. There were two small windows at the waterline that let in natural light. We were hardly in our cabin except to sleep so we did not need a balcony or picture windows. On several occasions we were berthed beside other cruise ships so the view was of the other ship. The food was excellent. Breakfast and lunch buffet style although you could order a la cart. Supper was served at 1900 every day. The beer (BItburger) and some very nice wines were included with lunch and dinner. The prices of drinks in the bar were reasonable. If you did not wish to eat in the dining room you there was also a small buffet in the lounge. The service was always excellent. Most nights there was some sort of entertainment on board. It varied from a male folk choir (who were excellent) to a wooden shoe maker. No Vegas style shows on these ships, there is not enough room. The upper deck is completely clear. It makes a great place to go for a walk or sit and watch the scenery go by. Keep some cash for gratuities at the end. You can put the gratuity on your bill but you can also use $, or Euros. We received two envelopes the last night. One for the Cruise Director and one for the crew. The Cruise Director worked tirelessly in all aspects of our our cruise, from boarding, to leading tours, to departure. She deserved very penny she got. We had Viking book our flights but we visited another city first so we arrived in Amsterdam by train. This was the only problem we had. Our ship was not at the main River Cruise port but in an industrial port. Buses were being used to shuttle people to and from the city centre. We went to the main port to ask the Viking agent there where the shuttle buses left from. The rep only dealt with people staying on the official "pre stay". They had already left for the ship. She advised us to take a taxi. Our taxi driver did not know where the new location was so we spend 30 minutes circling the industrial port before he asked a security guard for directions. If we had flown directly to the cruise we would have been met by a Viking rep at the airport and bused to the ship. The trip from the ship to the airport went very smoothly. We are sailing with Viking again Read Less
