We had always wanted to do a European Riverboat Cruise. It was everything we had hoped for and more. The dining and entertainment was excellent, the crew and the wait staff were extremely friendly, courteous and professional. There were get togethers with the tour director every night in the lounge, showing us videos of the different ports of call and what we could expect to see and the shore excursions were well organized and really gave you an insight into what life was like in the different countries that we visited. Before the cruise even started, the airlines lost both of our bags of luggage. We can't say enough about how helpful the crew was in trying to get our luggage back. They spent an enormous amount of time with us, compiling lists of what articles of clothing we thought had been lost, filling out forms to submit to the airlines and making countless calls to the airlines in an attempt to find our luggage. We had purchased two days of clothing in Amsterdam, assuming we would get our luggage back soon and the cruise ship washed, dried and ironed our laundry every day for free until we got our first bag of luggage back, which wasn't until one week into the cruise. Hats off to all of them, they were fantastic. Between the magnificent scenery, the excursions, the local cuisine and the onboard experience, it was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations we've ever had. We're already booked on another Viking Cruise in October of 2020 and we can't wait. For us, Viking lived up to the expectations and we would highly recommend it. Read Less

The cabins were very nice and comfortable. The food and dinning staff was very good. Having wine and beer with lunch and dinner was great. We enjoyed the different ports of call each day and the excursions. All of the excursions were conducted in English and very informative. In addition we signed up for additional excursions that were also very nice the transportation at each port was conducted with top notch transportation busses and we were very impressed we have been on several cruises on different cruise lines. The Viking river cruise boats were very nice and clean. We would definitely use Viking cruise line again. We met lots of people from all over and everyone was very nice. The entire crew were by far the nicest group of people and they made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We can’t think of anything that was a negative during the cruise. Read Less

We had never been on a river cruise. It was wonderful. Great fellow passengers, excellent staff. Food was amazing. The staff goes the extra mile to cater to your every request. The excursions were pleasant and informative. We made friendships that are still in place today. The pacing was comfortable and allowed us to relax and enjoy a part of the world we had never seen before. The itinerary allowed us to see many aspects of Europe so we got a good sampling of the region and its cultures. I would recommend Viking (and we have many times since getting back) to anyone. Our stateroom was comfortable and always clean and orderly. The entertainment provided was wonderful. I liked that the guests were in our age bracket so we had a common ground of life experiences to start conversations and get to know each other. We have since expanded our Viking experiences and been on the Viking Star for a ocean cruise. We will be going through the Panama canal this fall again on a Viking Ocean ship. Read Less

Tulip time in Amsterdam. This was our first river cruise and we were thrilled. We extended before and after the cruise and were extremely impressed with the accommodations and the extra city tours arranged by Viking. The service was wonderful! The food was better than expected and the ports were a wonderful caption of the Netherlands. Viking personnel were very helpful and seemed to have our interest and enjoyment as a goal. Transportation to and from the city excursions was very well organized and smooth. The ship was comfortable and the number of passengers just the right size. We met any number of very likable new acquaintances and new friends. The ship's staff was personable and pleasant. We are already contemplating our next trip and will, of course, look at Viking when we choose a destination. Our thanks to Viking for making our trip one to remember. We will see you again! Read Less

This is the only way to travel. No changing of hotels and repacking regularly. Delicious food taken care of by a great kitchen staff 3 times a day. Breakfast and lunch could be fast buffet style or leisurely sit down. We were handed water for all excursions and in the room at no extra charge. Beer, wine and soft drinks were offered free with lunch and dinner. We were waited on hand and foot throughout the cruise by a great staff. Travel was to sites while sleeping instead of long bus rides. You could tour at your own pace around the offered sites or on your own or just stay aboard. One of the nice surprises was that staff members accompanied the scheduled tours and took many pictures of the sites and the folks exploring These pictures could be purchased at the end of the trip on a flash drive. One didn't need to take any pictures if he so chose and would still have many to remember the trip. We look forward to the next time we travel with Viking. The one true highlight among many good ones was the Keurkenhof Gardens tour. Read Less

My wife and I had not been to Amsterdam. Viking offered a cruise that encompassed visiting Amsterdam, other parts of Holland and Bruge in Belgium. We enjoyed the cruise immensely and intend to sign up for other Viking cruises in the future. I loved the fact that the airfare to Europe was paid by Viking and the 11 day cruise was offered at an affordable price. The ship activities were very good during the day and somewhat reduced at night. What entertainment and activities that were offered after dinner were very enjoyable. The cabin was small, but adequate. The bathroom was larger than I expected. Dining was excellent for every meal. The food and drink was top drawer. The wait service was uniformly excellent. They couldn't do enough to please. The shore excursions were very good, especially the day we had lunch with a local family. The free time we had in each port was very appreciated. Read Less

Six of us celebrated a 50th anniversary by taking the Viking River cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest leaving Amsterdam on July 11, 2015 Wonderful cruise, on the Bagri. Program Director Alex was the most informative, hard working individual I know. Daily excursions were well planed, informative, and interesting with great English speaking guides. Meals were wonderful with great variety. Staterooms are well planned with nothing left to want. Daily excursions are a great reason to go on the Viking Grand European cruise. When the Danube was closed to traffic for approximately 150 miles, Viking accommodated all passengers with a coach trip around the closure and a swap to a sister ship (the Skadi) in Passau. We never missed any city stop. In fact in Nuremberg we had lunch in a German restaurant which was a great experience. Viking made our swap very easy and accommodated us in other ways. Walking tours were designed with all walking abilities accommodated from fast walkers to those with more challenging walking speeds. Razil and Niko (in the dining room) on the Bragi were exceptional individuals who we were sad to leave after the one week. All staff were wonderful on both ships. Arriving in Budapest at night was incredible, bridges and building all lit up. What a way to end a fantastic holiday. Read Less
