Loved this idea of spending our 25th anniversary in Europe. All went well-great staff, good food, nice ports, but wished there was more free time and fewer ports to visit. Had to get up pretty early for the free excursions, which are largely church/history oriented, if you're into that sort of thing. Would have preferred more intimate excursions (for free) instead of 50-60 people ushered around already popular destinations. If you are a history buff, and like lectures, etc. This is for you. The passengers are largely 60+, and highly educated. A few wheelchairs also, although Europe is tough for them with all the cobblestones and hills. I really prefer Gate 1 for this sort of thing. More free time, less expensive, and a smaller group. You're not tempted into gluttony as much. Food was good, but not as good as some of the finer meals I've enjoyed in major cities. If there were more shore excursions catering to intimate experiences, that would be better-like seeing a cobbler make shoes. Since the cruise is so pricey, these should be included without an extra charge. Read Less

This was our second Viking river cruise and it was a great trip. The ship was spotless, and the crew amazingly friendly and helpful. Viking truly does a great job of selecting, and training all cell members. Outrage stateroom was kept impeccable, and was very comfortable. Had a Veranda A! Plenty of room, lots of closet/drawer/shelf space for our clothes. And we don't pack lightly. Plenty of outlets, and counter space in the stateroom. The heated bath floors extend into the shower, and the Freyja bath products were very nice. A light scent that is good for men and women. I love that Viking provides a mini fridge in the room. I like my soda in the morning and could take one back to the room each night. The lounge was always comfortable, and meals were delicious. The trips was great. The towns of Hoorn and Brugges were my personal favorites. In Arnhem we did the optional tour to the outdoor museum, which was great. Not many people went on this tour, but to me it was a must do. Kinderdijk was really neat, the windmills were so neat!! Keukenhof was much more interesting than I thought, and the flowers were amazing. I would highly re ommend this ship and itinerary. Read Less

we loved the fact that everything was done for us....loved the meals on the ship, the tours were great and meeting only a few people not like on the ocean cruise was fantastic. lots of down time if you wanted it but lots of exciting things to see and do if you wanted to and created for everyone ......we had ages 7 years to 83 years i believe and all in-between and that was awesome! our Cabin was small but very accommodating, the scenery was lovely and we had very few complaints. Our only one down side was the four airports we went thru going over and also coming back (from Edmonton, to Montreal, to Paris and then Amsterdam and coming home again from Budapest, Paris, Amsterdam and Edmonton .........and our suitcases were held up in Montreal due to weather but was delivered two days later so we did miss part of our Sightseeing Tour of Amsterdam that day due to filling out forms and trying to track down our suitcases and as i only had one pair of shoes i had a very hard time as my feet are not the best these days so slowed us up the first day or so. Everyone was very good about finding out where our case had got to though! We would love to do another river cruise but probably won't as it was pricey for us but glad we did it! Read Less

My husband and I have only been on one cruise and one river boat (not Viking) and decided river boating was the BEST.....don't have the crowds (only 160 on our boat) and can see scenery on both sides of the ship. (Not so much water). Read reviews on Viking and decided to try. The crew on Viking Baldur (Grand European - Amsterdam to Budapest) was amazing. We had never been on a trip (and we've been all over Europe) that the crew was SO attentive to detail. It was so interesting that many crew members 'wore several hats' and they helped each other. GREAT TEAM WORK, from meeting us at the airport to shuttling us back!!!!! Our room was cleaned and straightened up several times a day. On each venture out, bottles of water were given out, umbrellas were available...if it rained (only had one slightly rainy day for a couple hours), and the crew always welcomed us back with a cool drink. There were several optional tours after the walking tour each morning, and if we chose not to do any of them, the crew gave us a map of the city with cool things to go back and see. Instructions for subways explained and routes carefully penned so there was no frustration. Great comradery with the waiters and waitresses. They got to know us pretty well and could anticipate 'our usuals'. The dining was elegant and the food was GREAT, with attention to a special meal specific to the country we were motering thru. There was always a 'standard' American menu if you chose not to be adventurous and try the local dishes. The chef always gave a little talk about the evening menu right after an explanation of the next days' adventure by our connoisseur, who had a tremendous sense of humor. Every night they had entertainment of some sort and it was always a class act! I personally have never been crazy about opera, but the trio they had come on board that night, was hysterical. Even though you didn't understand the language, you got the message by their actions. I have never been so pampered...EVER.....and we're definitely going back next year, somewhere else with Viking. Can't praise them enough!!!!!!!!!! Read Less

We were interested in the scheduled ports of call and the daily tours included in the package. We had other friends who had taken a Viking Cruise and they all raved about the value of their trip. If we had it to do over again, we would definitely go to the embarkation city several days in advance. Primarily for two reasons, recover from jet lag prior to boarding the ship and having more time to spend exploring such a fascinating city (Budapest). ALL of the ship's staff and crew members were extremely pleasant & helpful, chatting with the passengers and making you feel like you were a special friend & guest. My husband being diabetic was always offered a special low sugar dessert - quite a treat when he usually has to respond "no thanks" to dessert. Menu selections were superb and we always had the option of having a lighter evening meal. Our room was comfortable, comparable to a luxury hotel! We especially enjoyed having a veranda where we could leisurely watch the beautiful scenery glide by. Other amenities such as thermostatically controlled temperatures for each individual stateroom, a private refrigerator and safe, plus sufficient electrical outlets and on board wifi all contributed to our comfort. The program director Marek Snelly went out of his way to keep us informed and entertained along with the concierge. The reception desk very helpful. The captain kept the ship smooth sailing thru the locks and docking with out you feeling anything. The cabin staff kept us very happy. The ports and excursions were very informative and fun to be there. The flooding of the river kept us from cruising along the whole river which i was really disappointed with. We transferred ships because we could not fit under the bridges and the transfer was amazingly smooth i was amazed., Although, I was really disappointed we did miss a lot of the cruise time. An amazing trip just missed seeing the castles and the river cruise where the ship could no go because of the rising rapid waters. Read Less

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and my husband's birthday on this cruise. We extended our trip with the pre cruise in Budapest which was a wonderful experience. We also extended with the post cruise in Amsterdam and Belgium. The whole trip was very enjoyable. Viking had every detail covered including a ship swap because of very high waters on the rivers. The swap was effortless on the part of the passengers but I know how hard the crew on both ships worked to make it that way. The best part was the Cruise Director, Marek Snelley changed ships with us !! Marek was a huge reason that our cruise was so delightful. He is personable, funny and extremely capable of taking care of the unexpected. This was our second Viking River cruise and I am sure we will be booking another cruise soon. These cruises are geared towards the older crowd. Our ship's median age was about 60. With no young people onboard our 24 year old daughter would not have enjoyed this as much as we did. A River cruise is much calmer and more intimate than ocean cruises. The emphasis is on learning about the cities visited. The tour leaders are all very knowledgeable and personable. Read Less

I selected the Viking Grand European River Cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. I was attracted to this cruise because everything was included in the price and the route takes you through most of the big name cities and attractions of Europe. After experiencing the cruise I could not be more pleased. The service that the crew and staff of the Viking Baldur provided was outstanding. The level of service we received on the cruise is totally unheard of in the US. The crew and staff went out of their way to make the voyage the most enjoyable trip of our lives (thus far!). For example, we arranged our own air travel since we wanted to spend time in Warsaw before flying on to Budapest to start the cruise. When we arrived in Budapest, I asked the Viking reception team at the airport if we could pay for a ride the transfer bus to the boat since we had not arranged for the transfer in advance because of our uncertain arrival time. The assistant for Viking said that we could take the Viking transfer bus, but that it would be less expensive for us to just take at taxi at that point. I do not speak Hungarian, and the Viking representative took us to a taxi and provided detailed instructions to the driver on where the boat was parked, which she would not have had to do since we did not use the airport transfer service. This is just one of many examples we experienced over the next 15 days on the cruise of the way the Viking representatives go out of their way to make your voyage the most enjoyable experience possible. Regarding the cruise categorization; I would call it a Luxury Cruise. It was not specifically a seniors cruise, although there were no children on the boat (much to my relief). Most people were north American, although there may have been a few Aussies there also, and virtually everyone spoke English, as did all the crew and staff. The food and wine were gourmet quality and there were choices of several different items at each meal. If you didn't like to eat in the more formal "sit down" fashion at the main dinning room, you could eat more casually on the terrace. There were no formal seating assignments in either dinning area and you could sit wherever you wanted and with whomever you wished. Dress on board was casual; no fancy clothes required. Read Less

The Tulips & Windmills river cruise had been recommended to my 3 travel partners by a mutual friend and they invited me to complete the four-some. I reluctantly agreed due to the cost of the cruise, but it was definitely a great trip. The crew were so friendly, professional and very accommodating. The program director and tour guides were excellent and provided a wealth of information. The tours and sites were very interesting and provided a great balance of organized and free time. The food was delicious! Meal times were celebrations! The size of the ship and hence number of passengers made it a very personal trip and provided the opportunity to meet and visit with many of the guests. I really enjoyed the convenience of not having to pack up and move to another hotel every day or so. The local musicians and speakers provided a sense of connection with the regions that we toured. The opportunity to visit in the home of residents of the city was a highlight of this travel experience. Read Less

Health, cleanliness and safety seem to be a priority on the ship also. The staff worked very hard to make everyone's experience the best that it could be. This cruise was recommended by family who had traveled Viking before. My brother and his wife, my sister and her husband, and just me decided to take this particular adventure. It was a most superb experience. The boat was beautiful and clean while the crew was knowledgable, helpful and professional. Clearly the crew enjoy their jobs as they were always smiling and willing to spend time one-on-one. It's all in the details -- distributing umbrellas and water as we set off on our adventures. As for the onboard programs/activities, there was a variety to inform and amuse anyone. One of my favorite tours was of the Wheelhouse. I was most impressed by the details, gauges, and availability of the crew. My cabin was so clean and comfortable -- I love the bed and pillows! And the heated bathroom floors were such a pleasant surprise. Of course there's never enough time, but the programs planned for the travelers on shore excursions were varied in selection and reasonable in time spent. The opportunity to choose allows travelers a good preview of the trip. I did stay onboard one morning and had a perfectly fine time. The travel guides and home hosts were enthusiastic, informative, funny and patient. Everything was organized and efficient. Dining was a delight. The choice of venue and food was important -- but the food was delicious wherever I dined. I discovered 2 beautiful countries with such history and personality that I looked forward to whatever my day brought. I had such a wonderful time that I plan to cruise with you again. Read Less

I chose this cruise based on past experiences traveling with Viking. This was our fourth cruise and we are never disappointed. The cabin, food and included excursions are wonderful and the staff and service is excellent. I love that everything is taken care of and I do not have to worry from the minute we get off the plane until we return to the airport. I will always recommend Viking and I have to many of my friends and colleagues. The Tulips and Windmills trip covered everything you would like to see in Holland and Belgium. You have many opportunities to learn about the culture, technology and of course tulips. I enjoyed all the ports and shore excursions. My husband doesn't like to get off the ship much and there is plenty of options on board to sit relax, read or enjoy the lounge. You are provided with a daily briefing which outlines the next days activities which I find very informative. The transportation to and from the shore excursions is also modern, clean and the drivers and guides are friendly. Read Less

The shore excursions were well planned and I appreciated that the costs were included. I didn't feel that we were being nickel and dimed. My wife has been on ocean cruises where they continually tacky on extra charges. My wife appreciated the wine being included with lunch and dinner. She has a severe gluten intolerance and the staff was very careful with all her meals. Our Maitre D' Gabor checked with her at every meal and made certain she had a gluten free meal even though we had not got our request in early enough according to the rules. The crew seemed to like each other and they all were very cheerful and very helpful at every turn. We met almost ll of the crew. Our tour director mad a point of involving the chef, the skipper and lots of staff people. This was my first cruise of any sort so I was a bit apprehensive. It turned out to be a delightful, rich experience. I've traveled Europe a number of times on a bicycle, now I'm too old for bikes, so I appreciated the full-service river cruise. The Danube is a very special place. Our tour director was very knowledgeable about the area and all our stops. The trip was quite a history lesson. I particularly appreciated the bus trip to Salzburg. We also had the choice of "leisure" shore excursions which helped with my limited walking range. Read Less

I have always wanted to see the area of Germany and Austria during the Christmas season, so we decided a great way to do this was on a cruise down the Danube. The ship was incredibly comfortable, the crew was top notch and as friendly as if you had known them for years. Our cabin was large enough for the two of us to move around and not constantly be in each other's way, the bathroom was small but not so small it was hard to do what you needed to do. The housekeeping staff left nothing to chance, they took care of the room as if it were their own. The food can only be describe as gourmet, every meal was delicious and elegant. The wines they server were perfect with every different dish they served. The activities on the boat were quite fun, but not extensive or elaborate. Games in the lounge were fun and many cruisers would get involved. The shore excursions were wonderful, you learned so much about the places you visited, and the scenery was breathtaking. We will definitely be going again in the future, in my mind the river cruise is much more personal and more intimate than an ocean cruise. Read Less

Our cruise was the Christmas Market Cruise on the Danube from Budapest to Nuremberg in late December 2015. The boat was a Viking Baldur, not the Njord as originally scheduled because the Njord had some sort of mechanical problem. But the Baldur was delightful, made more so by our occupancy of one of the two owners' cabins on the stern. The food was terrific and the service was superb. The itinerary was great, and the land tours were well organized and led, and interesting. The only downside on the whole trip was that Viking did not tell us (if they knew) that the Christmas Markets in Germany close on 12/23 so we missed seeing some of them toward the end of the trip. After the cruise terminated in Nuremberg we took the extension to Prague which was well worth it. Viking did a very good job in maintaining a warm and friendly environment during this trip -- which is a major reason we keep coming back to Viking. This was our fifth Viking river cruise. Read Less

We thoroughly enjoyed this Christmas market cruise. We went in the middle of December and added a few days in Budapest. We did not have the opportunity to explore Passau, but the embarkation process went very smoothly. The rooms are efficiently designed and there was plenty of room for clothes etc. The ship staff from the first person you met to laundry personnel were wonderful. The food was excellent and the evening entertainment was fun and engaging. After a day or so, the wait staff learns your preferences and everything is there, just as you like it. We met many great people which made our holiday extra special. As usual, the guides in each port were very knowledgeable and friendly. We spent Christmas Eve in Vienna, and attended a Concert that was a medley of opera and ballet. It was excellent. To get to and from the venue we drove through the city and the lights and decorations were spectacular. Adding the extra days in Budapest was also a great choice. The city is easy to navigate, and the drivers were friendly. We used the bus system which was adequate for the places we visited. There are many great restaurants and cafes, and of course the Christmas markets were beautiful and festive. It was a great way to celebrate the holiday. We would recommend this cruise, and perhaps we will take it again. We would definitely use the Viking Line again. This was our second river cruise and we plan to use the line again. Read Less

Have to admit this was our first cruise of any kind. We had a fantastic time on the Baldur!! the crew was amazing. Jens, the Hotel manager was always available. The crew was friendly and very obliging. A special shout out to Jackson and Pamela for taking such good care of us in the Dining Room each night! Out Tour Director was Claus...who came in as a last minute replacement. He was so knowledgeable and has the patience of a saint! Low river levels continued along the Danube. we knew beforehand that it was a possibility that we would have to change ships due to this problem. Unfortunately we did...but the change over was seamless. Viking handled everything and we entered into the Viking Magni through crew members shouting hello! Of course no one wanted to have to repack but it could not be helped. Viking had no control over this situation. As a special treat Viking paid for all the guests to attend the Vienna Symphony concert...what a lovely night that was! Each port along the way was beautiful! The guides- for the most part- were very nice and had an amazing amount of knowledge about the cities and towns. Some days we had a guided tour in the morning and then the afternoon free to explore on your own. My husband and I especially enjoyed this aspect. Even with the transfer to the Magni we went to all the places listed in the original itinerary. The cabin, though small, was comfortable. Large bed...delightful! Bathroom was small but efficient. Now the food...unreal! Both ships had Chefs that were outstanding and very willing to make anything special. I do not eat much meat and every night there was a vegetarian meal available..including the appetizer! One evening, Chef George on the Magni, made me a special appetizer! The table of 8 with whom we ate was over the moon with the food! The breakfast buffet was endless...Lunch could be eaten in the Dining Room or up in the Lounge.. The view of Budapest at night was stunning...a definite must see! Our flight back to NY through Muncih was leaving at 6AM.. Viking had us on the bus by 3;30..after giving us breakfast! My husband and I would not hesitate to cruise with Viking again. In fact we look forward to it! It was worth every penny! Read Less

I recently travelled from Budapest to Amsterdam with my Mum on the Viking Baldur. What a fabulous trip! Everything about the ship was wonderful, from our cabin (though on the small side), to the lounge and bar, the main dining room, the sundeck and the Aquavit Terrace. The crew were just amazing, with the most attentive service and always with a smile, nothing was ever too much trouble. The shore excursions and tour guides were well organised and always of interest and we were fortunate to have mostly fantastic weather. Free Wi Fi was a bonus and mostly worked very well. The onboard entertainment and information talks were great, with something for everyone from a glass blowing demonstration, apple strudel making demonstration, dancers, singers, a trivia night, Viennese coffee culture, the European Union and more. When there was no specific entertainment we were always entertained by our pianist, Laslow (I think that's how you spell his name). And he played during lunch and cocktail hour every day as well. The meals were just awesome! Full buffet breakfast of 5 star hotel quality, lunch in the dining room or out on the terrace and 4 course dinner in the dining room. Snacks and tea/coffee available all day. Our cruise included the Silver Service drinks package which meant unlimited drinks from the bar of whatever we wanted. I would absolutely recommend Viking based on our experience and would cruise with them again in a heartbeat. Read Less

Appropriate activities about the areas we were in, clog dancing, local music, or a talk about the trip or from some one local about a specific subject. The ship well furnished, cabins are spacious and well equipped. Food was good, portions ideal given the regularity of meals. Nice to able to get decent coffee and tea between meals and home baked biscuits. Cabin staff were helpful, and very friendly - nothing was too much trouble. From our first day on our river cruise, we had a great time! Food was delicious! Service by the crew was superb! Ports-of-call were fantastic, even though it rained at most of them...off and on and not steadily. Ha! Most of the tour guides knew their stuff and the hikes weren't that bad, considering I had just had a hip replacement in November, 2014 and would be having my other one done the end of April, 2015. The number of locks was a little overbearing, but what are you to do, going from where we boarded to where we ended in Amsterdam? The trip from Frankfurt, Germany to Amsterdam had far fewer locks and the weather was definitely great, although in Amsterdam, the weather was exceptional, so we roasted out at the gardens--which were beautiful. I got my castle pictures and loved every minute of seeing them again; and, hiking up to the large one on the hill was just wonderful! Even though it rain slightly, walking all around in that beautiful castle, without a guide, and only with two or three others who I met, as the highlight for me--Wertheim, I believe it was called. I would highly recommend having more time in that port, so a tour could be arranged up there, which could include the restaurant, also, when it was open. It was so close to the river and wouldn't require bus's, like a couple of the sites did. Cabin was delightful for a riverboat, although we were on a lower deck this time around. Ha! The disembarkation went smoothly and we so much appreciated the Viking crew that went with us...or met us at the airport, so we wouldn't have problems. Much appreciated! Read Less

We just got back from our Grand European Tour from August 10 - 24 starting in Budapest. I think it was a good decision to begin in Budapest because we had almost 2 complete days to enjoy the city. We arrived at 10AM and were in our cabin at noon. At the end of the cruise we might have been too exhausted to appreciate this beautiful city, am only sorry we didn't arrive a couple of days early. The weather was quite warm, almost 90F, but after Budapest the temperature dropped considerably and it was chilly with little sun and rain in several places. I think the itinerary was excellent and each city or town was different and had its special charm. The places I enjoyed the most were Budapest, Vienna, Regensburg and Bamburg. The only places that disappointed were Wurzburg and Cologne. probably because I expected more. Viking does an excellent job of balancing the itinerary so that there are early starts on tours interspersed with later starts on others. The tour guides were very knowledgeable, informative, and personable. However, after a few tours it is hard not to confuse one place with another and maintain interest. I am a history lover and a former educator, but I did find myself getting "toured out." That was my problem, definitely not Viking's. The service provided was outstanding in all respects. Kudos to the entire staff who work hard to accommodate you. Jazmina in the restaurant and Johnny on the Aquavit Terrace were wonderful, as well as our stewardess, Michaela. The stateroom was tiny, but well laid out so with a little organization two people can manage to fit. Unfortunately, my husband fell ill and missed several days of the cruise and I was tempted to take a blanket and sleep in the lounge. Being on the lowest deck was fine, especially since in several ports there are ships stacked next to each other and there is no view. The food was hit or miss. Breakfast was very good, Norwegian smoked salmon daily with bagels and yummy pastries were part of the offerings. We rarely had lunch, and dinner good be quite good but also quite lacking. The chef tries to make very sophisticated dishes that at times did not work. The only incident that was annoying was at the end of the cruise. We had a 10:10 AM departure from Amsterdam and we had been scheduled to depart the ship at 6AM. Viking refused to change anyone's departure time so with another couple we asked for a mini van to go to the airport. Constantin, the concierge, said it would cost 45 euros for the four of us (not for each couple). I had him repeat this several times to make sure there was no confusion, but when we got to the airport after dropping off the other couple at KLM we proceeded to United, where when paying the driver he wanted $70 euros. We refused to pay the difference and since the transfer had been arranged by Viking and this was the taxi company they always use we told the cabby to complain to the Baldur. We did report this to the Viking representative at the airport and also called the company yesterday to tell them about it. Now why did I say "not my cup of tea"? This was our first river cruise and have only done two ocean cruises to Alaska and to the Mediterranean years ago on what was Renaissance and is now Oceania. We have always traveled to Europe independently organizing the itineraries on our own and having done the river cruise we realize that group travel is not for us, it is too regimented as far as meals, tours, etc. Planning a European trip requires a lot of exhaustive research, but that is definitely our preference. Having said that, I would definitely recommend Viking and this itinerary to anyone who wants to do a river cruise and leave the planning to others. Last, but not least, we were fortunately in that there were no problems with water levels or lock break downs which seems to be a fairly common occurrence. This was causing me a lot of stress before the trip worrying about whether our cruise would turn into a bus tour, another reason why I would not repeat this experience. Read Less

This was "the" family vacation of a lifetime - My wife and I took both daughters/husbands/significant others for a sojourn from Amsterdam to Budapest. Wonderful 2 weeks filled with relaxation, scenery, Viking hospitality, history, food and beer. This was our first time on the Longships and they proved to be a delight in every regard. Cabin space roomier than older Viking ships. Common areas delightfully open and airy. All in all a superbly designed boat. Half way on the trip, while along the Main/Danube canal, we were informed of a low water situation that precluded passage through and that we needed to trade ships with one on the other side of the problem. We were asked to pack, place our bags outside in the AM and then proceeded to take our daily tour. When we returned we switched from the Magdi to the Baldur - same stateroom, same program director, but different staff. And while we were sad to lose the friendships we made with the staff on the Magdi, the Baldur staff was just as delightful and just as proficient. The change was painless and the cruise continued without further changes. I find the Viking formula to be delightful. Read Less

My friend and I cruised from Budapest to Amsterdam on the Viking Baldur. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The crew was fantastic, the food was amazing, the ship was only 9 months old and state of the art. We had a Veranda Stateroom and it was a well designed cabin with loads of storage. The tours were well organized and the tour guides were all very knowledgeable. Amenities on the ship were great, 24 hour coffee/tea stations (2 of them), a library, computers and free WiFi access throughout the ship. We were thoroughly spoilt, pampered and entertained. Nothing was too much trouble, a very happy place to spend 2 weeks watching Europe glide by. Highly recommend Viking, and in particular, the Baldur, for a fabulous cruise. This is a relaxing way to travel!! Read Less

This was our first Viking River cruise and we were so impressed with absolutely everything. Our Veranda A room was so comfortable and we loved the views as we cruised the rivers from Budapest to Amsterdam. The staff was outstanding! We never wanted for anything! The tours and all of the local tour guides were wonderful. The daily pace was just perfect. The meals on the ship were delicious and we enjoyed our times off the ship when we visited several local restaurants (usually recommended by our tour guides). We were very pleased with the audio devices we had for our tours which meant we all could hear what the guide was saying without all being on top of each other. All of the UNESCO sites were amazing on this trip - loved all that we saw and learned. The entire staff of the Baldur were so wonderful. Our stateroom was always just perfect and we loved getting to know our young room steward Jeffsy. She took great care of us the entire voyage. The end of our cruise came two days early when I received word that my sister had suffered a major heart attack and was in critical condition in Louisville, KY. Our cruise director, Korana and concierge Victoria immediately went to work on getting my husband and I off the ship and onto a flight from Frankfurt back to the states. It was the middle of the night back in the U.S. where my travel agent was and so we were unable to get in touch with her. Korana and the Viking crew were so caring and made all of our arrangements for us and we did get back home the very next day. We had not used Viking to make our travel arrangements but that did not make any difference when it came to helping us get back to the states. I can never say enough about all of the Viking personnel and hope we can soon take another Viking cruise. Read Less

Just home from our Rhine Cruise on Viking Baldur. First vacation that I cannot find one negative thing to say. The longships are absolutely beautiful, our Explorer Suite was fantastic, with every amenity possible. We left our patio doors open each night, the weather was unseasonably warm, plus afforded us great views when we were going thru the locks. We sat on our back balcony every night before bed. No engine noise just the gentle sound of the water. We were extremely pleased with all the meals. Contrary to other reviews we found the menu offered numerous choices for every pallet and portion sizes more than adequate. The Grilled New York Steak and Caesar Salad should not be missed. Our compliments to the Chef and his staff for a job well done, especially the Captains Farewell Dinner. The bar and restaurant staff are friendly, accommodating and efficient. The Spirits Package is certainly well worth the cost, and the Wine List provided numerous regional varieties. Housekeeping maintains a spotless ship. We loved the turn down service, special treats and cute towel sculptures. Towels were changed out twice daily and the bathrooms cleaned as well. We prefer to do our own exploring as the tours are not our thing. Ships dock close to most towns so we had nice walks everyday. The small towns were the best, with quaint buildings and streets, cafes and pubs. Excellent shopping venues for high end clothing and shoes. "Christmas Markets" were fine for people watching and local culinary specialties, but that was it. Not into trinkets. The hotel manager, Claudia Gonzales, was constantly about and interacting with her guests. She obviously loves her job and her staff, and it shows. Thank You Viking for a Magnificent Holiday. 10 out of 10 Read Less
