We had always avoided cruises, thinking of massive ships and massive crowds overwhelming the arrival ports. Many of my (retired) business school classmates suggested that we try a Viking river cruise--smaller, older, affluent demographic but most importantly the quality of the on-shore excursions. We got exactly what we expected--about 180 people, mostly USA with 8-10 Canadians and 6-8 Brits in ...
Nearly all aspects were fabulous.
Some highlights:
- Loved having the walking track for evening walks after dinner.
- Every meal was excellent.
- Loved our room and having our fridge stocked with sodas.
- Enjoyed the beautiful flowers in our room.
- Liked being able to join others for dinner or choose to sit at a table toward the bow of the boat where we could just be the two of ...
My husband’s sister and husband had been on a Viking River cruise before and told us we would love it. Honestly, we weren’t convinced. But I have become their #1 fan. It was incredible!
It is intimate with only 200 passengers. The food was spectacular! The waiters are amazing and fun and knowledgeable. We sat in about the same part of the restaurant each night so we could have Milan, Mark, and ...
We love the Viking river cruises! We like how we can get off the ship, take interesting and fun tours all day and then come back to the comfort of a clean ship, friendly staff and great meals. Staff was always very helpful. We like how the history and culture of each city, town and country is worked into the briefings, entertainment and food selections. The experience is very educational.

I wanted to see Germany and Austria, also to see the Christmas markets. My friend asked me if I was interested in going to Germany, and since my heritage is predominately German, I accepted. The food was AMAZING, and wonderful. Our servers learned our names and preferences the first day; they were wonderful and I hated to leave them behind. There were so many itineraries and things to do; I ...
This was our second Viking river cruise, we took my Dad (90) last year on the Rhine Getaway and he loved it so much, we booked the Danube. My Wife and I are in our 60s and have been on dozens of ocean cruises but our second river cruise. Here is an honest review.
The Good
1. Clean boat and easy to navigate.
2. Food was better than expected and better than last year.
3. Overall, staff ...
My wife and I did the Paris to Prague river cruise about 8 years ago and really enjoyed all the tours of the museums and history. Wonderful castle tours and guides that knew all the history, so it was past time to do another cruise.
We decided we really wanted to visit Budapest and decided upon the Romantic Danube river cruise. This was very different from 8 years ago, by signing up for ...
The difficulty in writing this review is in keeping it simple. So perhaps a bulleted list:
1. Cruise Director (Jochgum "Joey" Schuijt) was phenomenal - he kept us informed, engaged, and interested the whole time.
2. The Maitre D' (Aryen) was the perfect food guide, tipping me off which way to go with each meal.
3. Chef Milos brought the goods! A wide variety of dishes and flavors the ...
Worry-free vacation! Viking takes care of airline tickets, transport from airport to hotel, transport from hotel to boat, even transport for extensions. There is also a representative on site with suggestions for activities and restaurants during extensions and on arrival. Viking also takes care of luggage, just identify on arrival and at other various times, Viking staff loads the luggage and ...
