Our original ship, the Lif was diverted just two days before our 3-week trip, to replace a Viking ship that hit and sunk a sightseeing boat in Budapest (28 lives lost). Our replacement, the Embla had a very excellent staff, but struck an anchored barge our first night out, and subsequently lost one of its generators (which power the electric motors) and 1/3 of its required speed. This cut short or ...
We chose this cruise (Bucharest to Amsterdam) for its length and itinerary. Just before leaving for Bucharest, we got an email from Viking saying that there might be a problem between Passau and Regensburg so we were prepared for a minor disruption in our journey. What happened though was it took us 4 boats and countless endless bus rides to complete our trip. Obviously Viking cannot be ...
Thank you, dandpvoigt, for taking the time to share your recent Viking experience with the cruising community. We recognize that you are one of the many affected by the itinerary changes...
After more than 10 ocean cruises my husband and I decided to take river cruise instead this spring. We chose the Danube cruise from Passau Germany to Budapest on Viking Cruise Line. First the positives: the boat was very clean, the crew friendly, most ship port of call tours were great, and it was a smooth ride all the way. Now for a few significant negatives: on this 8-day cruise, four of the ...
We appreciate your honest review, Sunshine5240, and sincerely regret to hear that your first river cruise experience left you feeling disappointed. Your comments about the food quality and...
We were disappointed with our late April, 2018, Danube cruise and would not recommend Viking to others. First "problem": we paid more for a Veranda room with an outside deck and found that Viking has SO MANY boats traveling the Danube, at the same time, that it STACKS its boats when it docks, side by side, leaving us with "a view" of ANOTHER Viking boat's outside deck one foot away from OUR ...
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent cruise aboard Viking Aegir, Nevermiss. We’re sorry to hear that aspects of your cruise, including service from select crew members and port...
Last Viking cruise we went on we had the large Explorer Suite at the back, very noise, it is right over the engines and going through a lock at night shook you out of bed. The smoking area is at the back of the boat so the rooms deck was in-usable unless you wanted to sit in cigarette smoke. Avoid these expensive suites.
This time we decided for those reason to have a suite..........mistake ...
We chose this cruise because of the countries that we would be visiting! We had chosen AmaWaterways for our first cruise which was amazing, it was a shorter cruise and we wanted to see if we really wanted to be on a river cruise for the length of time that we booked our Viking adventure!
We chose Viking because of all the advertising and how amazing it sounded, that was our first mistake! We ...
My wife and I had planned this "trip of a lifetime" a year earlier. Our first river cruise but we had cruised Alaska, the Baltic Sea to St. Petersburg, Russia and a few others previously. We did not expect much in recreation, or public rooms given the size of the ship. The cabin was as expected and the cabin staff were first rate.
The meals were average at best, breakfast and lunch were the same ...
The comments below are from a letter sent to Viking following our July, 2013 cruise from Bucharest to Amsterdam. Overall the trip did not meet our expectations. We realize that some problems were caused by the rolling lock strike, but the way that Viking handled that issue was disappointing. In addition, there were aspects of the trip independent of the strike that were disappointing.
First, ...
My wife and I made reservations for the Viking 2013 Passage to Eastern Europe (June 15 Budapest to Bucharest) cruise in August of 2012. Their brochure described a wonderful journey spending eight days cruising down the Danube and visiting venues we had not seen before. They particularly highlighted the Iron Gate area.
In addition to the monies paid to Viking we used many thousands of air miles ...
This was our second Viking River Cruise. The first on the Aegir.
We had a room downstairs that was below water level, which made me search out escape routes before we left port.2 ways out.
We stopped in Belgrade and were showen bullet ridden buildings.Returning to the boat there was no security check and the gangway remained unmaned all night.
There were a lot of Buffet meals.
The cabin was tiny ...
