Seemed like a good idea at the time, first day we were greeted by a pedal bin in the toilet full of tissues and a used tampon smiling at us, reported it and all we got was a grunted apology whereas friends of ours got a fifty pound extra spend because some noise was heard early one morning.Although not P&O,s fault the ship was overun with wheelchairs, zimmer frames and mobility scooters.Technical faults ensued throughout and rudely awoken at 4.20 one morning with chairs etc being moved above us, when complained was virtually called a liar as no one goes above deck until 7.00 am to move stuff ,haunted ship I suppose. I dont think I've seen so many vastly overweight people in one place before, food ok but nothing wonderfull but most staff ok with some of the younger girls very smiley and chatty. One waiter virtually threw the food at us and seemed like he would rather be elsewhere . Two P&O cruises and four Princess and will go back to Princess in future , shame really as we would rather support home grown. Freddy Mercury tribute was awful if you were a queen fan and on a last note ive never seen food consumed in such large ammounts by people in their 80s as on this trip, no wonder it cost so much in care homes, lovely bunch though. First p&O cruise , we have always gone with tui (Thomson) before but wanted to see what it was like going from Southampton, we got there earlier than are allocated time and must say went through the embarkation procedure very smoothly, I had read previous reviews about the ship some good some bad , although some areas looked a bit tired overall the ship was fine, the cabin was no better than what we have had on Thomson ships. We found the afternoon tea was very limited (the same things on all the food areas ) Our breakfasts and evening meals were taken in the baytree restaurant and we found them excellent a good choice at every sitting, our waiters were very friendly and attentive (jam and dominic) table 109. Did not think the entertainment was that brilliant some acts were good (but not the shows like we have seen on Thomson) Our cabin steward was very good cabin always spotless. Went to Madiera for the first stop and on the cable car and toboggan ( this was a great experience , our last stop was in Lisbon and we went on the amphibious duck what a great laugh that was our guide Gonzales was brilliant. Would go again but did find drinks quite expensive you can get a drinks package but at £39.95 each a day and you must both have it think its a bit much. Read Less

Happy 12-day cruise but just sometimes food quality was surprisingly poor. Potatoes with black rotting areas and occasionally not hot. Staff in smart restaurants and buffet were hard-working, helpful and pleasant. Often a feeding frenzy in buffet servery which is too crowded sometimes and too small. One area is opened while the other closes. Ideally should both be open. All made worse by impatient passengers who don't like queuing. Also, despite polite request notes on each table asking diners to vacate once finished eating, there are some who seem to camp there for an hour or two chatting, dozing or reading books while others search for seats. Some ignore hand sanitisers in restaurants. Thump of engines can be heard in main restaurant. We heard that P&O have made economies on several fronts and sometimes it shows compared with previous cruises by us. Cabin stewards now asked to service more cabins daily. Stage shows were very good/excellent. One comedian fared badly/gross with old folk with mime of him pretending to wipe his bottom, complained about weak P&O 2-ply toilet paper, said some elderly passengers "smelled like the homeless" and were infirm - among other grubby "jokes." Long wait to disembark because of tide change and positioning the bridge to terminal. Read Less

Been on Azura 3 Times decided to try Ventura Food was Terrible in Buffet Indian and Asian food for 12 days, Food was always barely warm if not cold, if you wanted a salad, forget Ham or Prawns were only out twice complained to Management only to be told it was exactly the same on all their ships!! What a load of rubbish could not fault anything on Azura, entertainment everything was brilliant . Unlike Ventura entertainment was poor, 1 band was on every night for 12 days ! We had a luxury executive room with balcony, sofa looked like it needed a good clean stained and faded as we're the curtains,. Will never go on his ship ever again, They say you pay for what you get well that's not true cost nearly £5000 for 3 of us for 12 days, don't feel I want to use P O ever again Read Less

The ship was very stable, all public areas, of which there are quite a few, were clean at all times. Some of the public toilets were not kept clean at all times and some even with soap missing. Breakfast and dining in the free dining restaurant like the "Breakwaters" lacked varieties with the waiters hovering around to clean the table as if asking you to get up as soon as you finish eating. Dining in the "Baytree Restaurant" was excellent, both food and service. Entertainment very very good both in the theater and on decks. Disembarkation and embarkation for shore excursions and also at the beginning and end of the cruise were smooth and well organised. The shore excursions themselves were very interesting with very professional guides always prepared to reply to any queries raised. Some of the staff at reception lacked the service with a smile and very rigid. Read Less

Just returned from our 3rd cruise with P&O. We did 14 nts on the med calling in 6 ports with 1 overnight stay in Barcelona (8th/22nd July). We had a wonderful enjoyable cruise with no problems at all..There are lots of moaners, as usual, goodness knows what they want or expect. We have done 10 cruises and loved everyone. Before leaving for our cruise I read all the reviews with lots of people complaining of bad service, poor food, dirty areas and rude miserable staff. Well we never found any of these complains to be true. The service we encountered was always spot on. All public areas were kept exceptionally clean, although on deck 7 smoking area, i'm afraid they always seemed to leave it in a mess even though there were bins for them, who do they think is going to clean their dirty mess up, you wouldn't do that at home (or would they). Also some of the complaints were about the type of people P&O were getting on the cruises, yes there were some, but the biggest majority were well mannered lovely people. The staff were always well mannered and helpful. CABIN; inside deck 12. plenty of wardrobe space etc., Lovely steward Kundan who kept it immaculate. One of the best stewards we have had. ENTERTAINMENT.We loved the Serous Sounds a Caribbean group who were on the Ventura in Sept, pleased they were still on. They certainly get you dancing. The resident Electrix group ok but the new girl singer no good. Some good comedians on in the bars. The Headliners put on some good shows in the Arena theatre. Our favourite were the Brit Tones a 4 man group they were excellent. The Tropical night on deck15 had a good atmosphere with the Serious Sounds playing. Everyoned dressed in Caribbean shirts etc., DINING we were freedom dining and sat with lots of different people each night all had good conversations, good food choice on menu in the Cinnamon. EPICUREAN We had fab meal there on the day we were leaving Rome. We sat on its balcony (aft) with the sun going down, good service.£3o supp pp GLASSHOUSE They did a special dinner there for about 12 couples (book early) it was a foodie meal where they compliment each course with the correct wine. We sat with a nice couple and got on really well, excellent £28 supp pp. WATERSIDE BUFFET We used the buffet for breakfast & lunch plenty to choose from.Gets abit chaotic at times but we got on with it. PORTS Gibraltar been before so only walked into town. BARCELONA shuttle bus into town where you can pick the red tour bus up which we did cost of 28 euros each. We still walked 8.8 miles. CANNES Beautiful port, went in by tender lovely walk along front, walked as far as the famous Carlton Hotel. ROME Did the excursion, Rome on your own, walked rather a lot but saw what we wanted as we have been before, I would like to add that we found Rome had got very dirty, lots of gravity, wasn't like that the last time we visited about 15 yrs ago. Very sad in such a beautiful ancient city, still enjoyed it though.CARTENAGA Lovely looking little port, had walk up the lovely shops area. SEVILLA excursion Sevilla on your own. Nice city, did the horse & carriage ride lasts about an hour 45 euros. but glad we did it because we did see alot more than we would have done walking. All in all had a smashing time, and cant wait for our next P&O cruise which is already booked.Dont take any notice of the negative reviews you read. This is a very large ship catering for 3000 passengers so they are not going to please everyone. Its only what you make of the holiday yourselves so enjoy. Read Less

We had cruised on Ventura last September and were a bit anxious about such a big ship as we had found Britannia not to our taste. However we loved her and so were happy to book again for this May.Arrived in Southampton at 1pm for our timed slot of 1.30pm and were amazed that in less than 1 hour we were on board eating a delicious lunch in the Cafeteria. We had requested Freedom Dining as usual and were very happy to be given that option. It worked well and we shared tables with many nice people and found the change added to the enjoyment of meeting new people on a daily basis. The menu has been refined slightly from previous cruises but we were nearly always spoiled for choice. My Crab starter one evening was the best I have ever had anywhere. The weather was not as good as previous cruises with rain for the first 4 days but gradually improved. For the first time there were a number of small children on board and because it was so unpleasant outside the indoor areas became a bit crowded at times and the noise level at the indoor pool was a bit high. Not good if you wanted to relax with a good book..but we managed.!! For the first time ever on a criuse we were attracted to an offer for the Sindhu @ East Restaurant and so made a booking. What a good decision. The whole experience was superb from the attention of the staff to the delicious food we ate. So impressed that we booked again when the menu change happened during the second week. Would not hesitate to eat there again when we cruise next time God willing. There were three new ports of call for us..Valencia,Ibiza and Cartagena. All three worth a visit but Valencia was stunning. Hope to go again some day. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our 6th crise with P & O and can't wait to do the next one when time and funds allow. Read Less

We decided to have a change for Christmas so booked a 12 night holiday on the Ventura one of the P&O line, we have sailed on this ship previously so we were expecting great things from P&O because all the cruises we have been on with them have been excellent. We were not disappointed, even Santa joined us at the delight of all concerned. As expected the staff, food, entertainment etc all were of top quality and the holiday was perfect except for the problems below. Embarkation was different from the last time we sailed, we arrived early and had to wait some 2 hours plus before we were called to the front desk for our photo's and clearance before boarding. Disembarkation was a pain in the neck we must have walked around half the ship with people taking short cuts and jumping the queue. If P&O keep this procedure they need to block off all other access points to make sure that that used is the one they are using. Read Less

Having cruised for the last twelve years, we have seen the prices become lower, and also the standards in some cases, corners have been cut, slightly at first but now more noticeably. first the dressing gowns and sippers went, then the welcome bottle of wine, now even the flower in the bud vase, please if a flower is too much of an expense remove the vase. Now to our cruise, embarkation was good, our luggage was just left anywhere on deck seven, we had to search for it, the cabin was a little small, the wardrobe space was excellent, the balcony was in shadow almost permanently, there was a small crack in the hand basin, the bed linen was very thin, the pillows like the rock at Gib. the upholstery and carpet had seen better days. Our cabin steward was a delight, polite helpful and eager to please, the cabin was always kept in excellent order. The carpeting in the halls was really dirty in parts, and there was a slightly unpleasant smell outside our cabin. The cabin door rattled intermittently, and the sliding door to the balcony was difficult to open. The door issues were remedied by our excellent deck housekeeper Dipin, who was very courteous and helpful. Freedom dining suited us and the food was of exceptional quality, we were always able to have a table for two for dinner which was a bonus, the choice of wine was excellent, and the service acceptable. We found the lunchtime choice in the Lido very repetitive. Room service had a limited menu. All aspects of the White Room were fabulous. The pools were excellent, the public rooms were very well furnished. The entertainment was good in the theatre, the television was poor or had to be paid for, the library was small, there was nowhere to go for a quiet drink as all the bars had very loud singers, or music, except the red bar with the most delightful pianist who did not play as often as we would have liked because the loud music coming from the atrium prevented this. The shops were good, and the staff helpful, the young photographers were fun, and took some of the best photographs we have ever had at sea. The ports of call were super, and we enjoyed the late stay in Gib. allowing us an evening on the White Room balcony with delicious food and superb service. Unfortunately the slightly unpleasant smell outside our cabin became worse and worse, the smell of drains eventually became so bad that it started to pervade our cabin, at that point we insisted upon being moved, this was a real pain, and took up valuable time, we were not the only people moving cabins, it did seem a little bit like a game of musical beds with luggage as most days you met a passenger on the move. On balance we would sail on the Ventura again as we felt that the delightful staff and delicious food compensated for most of the drawbacks. Read Less

Booked at short notice good value price been with PP before but not the Ventura. Took hotel and taxi offer no probs little wait but not a problem. Walked on ship after cheque in again little wait but lots of passengers to board. To cabin and was surprised at size considering we were at front of ship on starboard side. Put to rest cabin great attendant more than helpful sea virtually calm all trip. Food/had free time dining 8.30 about each night have to say food was excellent lots of choose, breakfast and snacks taken between buffe and restaurant we have no complaints on any food issue. Ports of Call. Several Spanish Cities no trips taken enough to see without same walk off possible at all local buses available and taxi are cheap in Spain. Visited Alicanti, Malaga, Valencia, Gib. Cadiz and Lisbon weather fantastic. In all cities City trips cost about 15euros each. Lisbon bus was difficult not enough busses on service walked around City. Need to go back to all. Entertainment/not that good I have to say ranged from comedian to dance acceptable but not impressed by same. Acctivities when at sea/plenty to do played TT and Cinema lots to go to. In all great to be aboard enjoyed. Getting of the ship however was another story. It was the worst discharge of passengers we have experience long lines of passengers from the discharge point back into the ship it was not organised no allocated areas to await call to leave MAYHem....overall an enjoyable cruise.
