The ship is really nice. Food was good. Service was very good. We really enjoyed the smaller ship with fewer guests. No crowds, no lines and no drunk rowdy party animals made for a very enjoyable and relaxing on-board experience. The cabin butler was exceptional. Though food was good, you are limited on your dining experience unless you "make reservations" for other restaurants and least 6+ moths in advance. Out of nine nights we were able to get reservations (other than main dining area) for only one night - and we tried 4 months prior to the cruise. Not sure about entertainment, the main show didn't start until 10:00 p.m. By then we were exhausted and went to be to try and sleep (see cabin review). Our daily shore excursions were very good! Some of the best we have ever had. Also, don't let the crews line book your airline tickets. Or, if you do, double check all flight times and connections, then make changes. We had to actually run through two airports in order to make connecting flights. The gate was about to close when we reached one and if the other flight had not been delayed, we would have missed that flight. We like the luxury cruise experience and will probably look at the other luxury lines going forward. Read Less

It is our third cruise with Silversea and we very much enjoyed the cruise, as on the previous opportunities. The cabines are spacious, with varanda. The service is the best point of the cruise: butler, room attendant, attendants at the restaurants and pool. Shows are top: the dancers from Bolshoi offered an incredible experience. The six young people (dancers , singers ) should also be congratulated for their fantastic performance. The food and wine were perfect. Excursions were well organized, but passengers sould get more detailed information on the timing and difficulties (foreseen time before first stop with the bus, more precise expected difficulties, and not only "moderate amount of walking"). Should be remembered that people may not speak English. We understand that English is the world wide language, but at least on TV, there might be Spanish,French, Italian channel and not only six (!) English and one German speaking channel. Read Less

This was our fifth cruise with Silversea. Ports were excellent and dates worked for us. Thought the food was average, dinner service was ok. Suite (848) was not good because of a constant vibration in the wall whenever the ship was underway. Something wrong when the wall is vibrating all the way up on the 8th deck. Makes you wonder about the engines/props. Could not read in bed because the headboard was vibrating so bad. Sleep was interrupted if the pillow moved next to the headboard. The ship (Silver Spirit) seemed different from other cruise ships we have been on. We would have a lot of questions before booking on the Spirit in the future. The excursions and (especially) the guides were very very good. The smaller ports appealed to us and we were very happy with the Virtuoso tour of Kotor. One of the best excursions we have had with Silversea. The outdoor grills were very good but the restaurant food was average. The buffet was good and the lunch service was quite good. Deck service was excellent. Room service was excellent and the housekeeping was excellent. The Silversea connection with the Bauer Palazzo in Venice (2 nights prior to embarkation) was outstanding. A terrific hotel experience. Read Less

Myself and two girlfriends chose this cruise as it had a list of destinations that other cruise lines do not do ... especially being able to go to Kusadasi, Turkey and take a trip to Ephesus. The Spirit also has one of the largest stateroom verandas which can accomodate 3 adults. We were not over cramped, the bathroom large , a bathtub a bonus. I normally travel with Oceania and found that Silversea is comparable. We found the staff very good, our butler Alex was wonderful, we enjoyed being able to have all the tips and liquor included. Being Canadian and our dollar not doing well the price was good . We opted out of their airfare program as we could not fly economy and their upgrade to business class was out of this world. Was not aware of the ballet at time of booking, and not being big ballet fans, we did attend one performance but would not be interested in doing another one. the stage is too small for such performances. Food was good, wish they offered a couple of more restaurants that we did not have to pay extra for. we did take 3 of their shore excursions and found that they were a fair price, but we booked a lot of private ones ( not the private ones offered by the ship) but ones we searched out on the internet and made arrangements ourselves. We found them to be so much better. as we had a car and driver to ourselves and able to maneuver the sights so much easier. Read Less

This was our first luxury cruise and we chose Silver Seas because of their ratings. The main selling points for myself were the size of the ship. It was extremely nice to be on one with 570 passengers as opposed to 5000. The food, which was incredible. The excursions and how organized everything was from start to finish and the service on board especially our private butler who was amazing. We did have a cabin that was next to an area used by the crew and most of the time there was a great deal of noise and I feel that it should be offered at a discounted price because of the noise factor. We allowed Silver Seas to book our airfare and on the return flights not enough time was allotted between flights. One of the flights was delayed and we had to literally run through the airport to make our connecting flight. We were the last ones on the plane before the doors closed. I would just suggest that flights be carefully checked before departure. Overall it was a wonderful experience, but I honestly do not think I would go again. Read Less

Chose for the ports. There were no port lectures. No childrns activities Entertainment was poor especially the post show panorama lounge. Felt like the cruise line wanted us to go to bed, did private tours and no admissions were included in the tour which I felt like being nickel and dime'd. La terrazza service lacking and tables dirty for breakfast. Always had to wait for outside table. Dining room was excellent. Need more simple grilled fish and Greek salad on a Greek cruise. All seafood had too many heavy sauces. The pouring wines were essentially undrinkable. Constantly having to ask for alternatives or order a bottle. Pool lunch menu and options were lacking and food service ends to early. Could not even get some ice cream on the pool deck in late afternoon Spa did not honor appointments that were confirmed on more than one occasion My cabin but,er was phenomenal and provided the best service on the ship Read Less

This was our first cruise on Silversea and we were extremely impressed. Our cruising background is limited, only three recent Celebrity cruises and one Norwegian back in 1989. I was a bit worried about prior negative reviews and cannot understand some of the negative commentary. We found the strongest aspect of this cruise to be the food/beverage. In short, everything we were served was wonderful. Once you give yourself in to the multi-course slower pace of dining it makes perfect sense. Highlights were La Terazza and Shen Shen but we loved all the restaurants, including the main dining room. The biggest difference between Silversea and Celebrity, aside from the better food, would be the lack of crowds. There was never a line anywhere on the ship and pool butlers were always available to set up a chair either by the pool or on the deck area. A huge plus. While a bit small due to the size of the ship, the workout area was well appointed an rarely had any more than one other person using a machine. Classes were free and the guy running the gym was very good. Read Less

We had never been to Eastern Europe so when we saw this cruise we were excited. We would have opportunity to visit and get a feel for these countries/ports without having to invest in a long stay at any one port. The ship was a perfect size, easy to traverse. Our Cabin #508 was larger than expected with a very nice balcony. My only minor issue for the whole cruise was that the refrigerator in the room did not get cold enough to chill wine properly. Our butler, as well as every member of the Silver Spirit staff were exceptionally courteous and efficient. We ate at all but Seishin and Pool Grill. The food was exceptional at all. We enjoyed Stars Supper Club the most. The presentation of 3 small plates for each course was inspired, allowing to taste many different selections. Added to that there was a terrific Jazz duo entertaining during the meal. We had dinner at Stars twice, don't miss!! This was a Ballet cruise and 2 star performers from the Bolshoi Ballet performed in the theater on two different nights, with a meet and greet in the bar afterwards. They were very good but I sensed that their performance, as good as it was, was inhibited a little bit by the size of the stage. We didn't attend any other of the evening performances as we were taking tours every day that left early in the morning and we can no longer stay up that late too often -- ha, ha! As a special activity Fernando, the cruise director, gave Greek Made Easy classes every afternoon. These came in handy since we were spending an extra 4 days in Athens. Thank you Fernando! Embarkation and disembarkation went remarkably smooth and easy. Very well organized. We were off the ship, got our baggage, through customs and in a taxi to our hotel within about 15 minutes!!!! Overall it was a very memorable experience and would highly recommend. Read Less

Joined the ship at Venice, sail away through Venice was just amazing. Ship was beautiful, spotless with a great ambience. Cabin 833 - fantastic central location with an amazing butler. Enjoyed all the restaurants except Seishin which we didn't try. All were great. We especially enjoyed Le Champagne. We were lucky to have 2 members of the Bolshoi ballet on board and enjoyed Giselle and the Nutcracker. The small entertainment team were good. Service was exceptional across the board, everyone works so hard and there is always a smile from all members of staff. Enjoyed all the ports of call except Igoumenitza which didn't really have much to offer unless you wanted to go to the beach. Highlights of the cruise for me were Venice and beautiful Santorini. We would definitely go again and in fact are looking at our next one. We cannot recommend Silversea highly enough - we had the most amazing time Read Less

Our review may seem harsh, however, we are rating our experience on the Silver Spirit to numerous Seabourn cruises over the last seven years. There is no comparison. We were in the owners suite (No. 802) on this trip and have booked the same level suite on Seabourn so we feel our comments are fair and balanced. 1)The ship seemed tired and in need of an update; the public areas and the bars did not have any energy and our entire experience was boring. . 2)Our cabin also needed an update (i.e. furniture, carpet, etc.). The air conditioning was sadly lacking and even after multiple visits from engineering the room never really cooled off. The curtains had to be drawn all day, every date to abate the heat, thus we never had an opportunity to enjoy exterior views. 3)Dining was our biggest disappointment. Menu choices were limited and varied little from day to day. The room service menu was very limited and the food was tasteless. The only exceptional meal we had was in the French Restaurant (which had the same menu every night of our cruise). No comparison to what we have experienced on multiple Seaborn ships. 4)Service: Although the "language of the ship" was English, staff and crew generally spoke languages other than English when talking to each other. No one, other than our butler, ever learned our names and never used our names without first determining our suite number. Even though we were in a premium suite we never met any of the senior crew members or officers. Ports and shore excursions were great, but they were not the ship's program. They were arranged by David Morris and/or our Dallas travel agent. We will not be sailing again on a Silver Seas ship. Read Less

We went on a 10 night and 9 night Mediterranean cruises back to back out of Venice in August 2016 on Silver Spirit. We had a veranda suite. We had been on Silversea before and also cruised with Celebrity, Oceania, Royal Caribbean and Princess. Here is the good and the bad. Cabin Attendant – Excellent – Our cabin attendant (Mark) was superb. He was always efficient, smiling and helpful. Our departures were noted and our cabin made up immediately. Tenders – Poor – Tenders were used at many ports. Leaving aside Santorini where the tendering is incredibly slow because it has to be done through local suppliers there were still often substantial waits to go ashore. Various priority systems seemed to be employed and those not deserving made to wait on seats as if in school detention. The people running tendering often gave wrong estimates of the likely delays and were condescending. Whilst the ship might be cleared at 8 if you lacked priority you might not be allowed to disembark until 9. Main dining room – The Restaurant was Truly Awful. The waiters were fine. The food was below the standard expected for the cost of the cruise and well below the standard of a previous cruise on Silver Wind. The maitre d was quite supercilious and offensive. A window table in an empty restaurant would be unavailable and remain empty during our meal as we were seated near the kitchen doors. There is no buffet dinner option anywhere else on board so this meant we often had no option but to order room service if the other restaurants were booked out (as was often the case) rather than be able to have a dining experience. Le Champagne – Excellent – Great service and degustation menu. The food was exceptional. Seishin – Poor. We had 3 reservations for it and cancelled the last 2 after the first meal there. It is pretend Japanese well below mall food court standard. La Terrazza – OK Service was highly variable. Food was also highly variable. An identical dish could be excellent one night and awful two nights later. Excellent pizzas were made to order. Buffet breakfast was very limited. The fresh orange juice sometimes was and sometimes was not. The Grill – Cooking steaks on a hot stone at your table is fun at first. However, other than a token grilled vegetable dish the lack of salad and vegetable options to accompany the grilled protein made dining here tedious. Coffee – Poor- throughout the boat. Often served cold. Smoking – A Problem – Many of the senior crew seemed to smoke a lot on deck and there seemed to be a lot of smokers. Smoking rules were often ignored by passengers and not enforced by crew. We often had cigarette smoke drift onto our balcony from other balconies despite smoking on balconies allegedly being prohibited. Not only did I see passengers smoking on balconies but I also saw them throw butts overboard. Noise – On the first cruise we had to listen to the TV and conversations from an adjoining cabin every night through the wall but once these guests departed did not have a noise problem on the second cruise. Walking/Jogging Track – There is a very good though short track. Often it was impeded by sun lounges and staff did nothing about that. Other Passengers – The Silversea image is of well dressed sophisticated passengers. Many were but there were also a surprising number of passengers covered in tattoos who drank heavily, smoked a lot, talked loudly and dressed badly. Sailing out of Venice I saw a passenger throw an empty bottle off their balcony into the lagoon. It was that sort of crowd. Embarkation – Good - Quick and efficient in Venice. On board 30 minutes after arriving at pier. Disembarkation – Good – Quick at Pireaus – From cabin to taxi was about 10 minutes. Cabin – The cabin was excellent and spacious. Butler – We had notified our drink preferences before the cruise. This had not been acted upon. Once we raised this with our butler he kept our minibar stocked with the drinks we wanted for the duration of the cruises. Internet – OK – 60 minutes a day was included for each passenger and worked fine. Overall we were disappointed; in part because Silversea is a high price line and in part because we had previously been on a wonderful Silversea cruise that was simply not matched this time. Needed to go on a holiday that was not too threatening for a solo person, due to change of circumstances. With help from the excellent Sam Perry who sadly has now left Silversea after many years, I chose a cruise from Venice visiting various ports in Italy, Croatia and Montenegro. My second Silversea experience and I have to say, it was excellent. I felt honoured to meet some wonderful staff on the cruise - particularly Monia and Ira as well as my excellent butler and Jesus his cabin boy. They were so lovely to me. I was really well looked after and the whole experience was very rewarding. I also enjoyed the shows although the lecture theatre on Silver Shadow is superior, this did not detract from the shows. The Italian lady opera singer was superb and her rendition of the history of the Argentinian Tango was excellent. I also found the staff on reception very helpful as well as Barry who assisted over a future booking. Everything was very well organised. The food was really good and we enjoyed the variety of entertainment. I was lucky to meet a like minded group of solo travellers and we regularly met up and ensured that we were all catered for in the evening. The main restaurant was really good, better than on Silver Shadow. La Terrazza was superb for lunch and breakfast but I personally would have preferred more variety in the evening. The really innovative experience for me was dining at Stars which I thoroughly enjoyed and Rico the Cruise Director was a delight as he was very amusing and always happy to chat. I also enjoyed dancing outside on deck when we had the amazing chocolate evening with a variety of chocolate drinks, champagne and the most amazing chocolate desserts and ice creams I have ever seen! Roll on my next trip on Silversea. Read Less

This was our first time on a Silversea cruise and for the most part we enjoyed every minute. Embarkation in Venice was very efficient and within a very short time we were in our suite. Dining experiences. Dined in Le Champagne our first night on board. The food was fine, but the party of 10 that was also there spoiled the whole evening for us. They were loud, inebriated (one gal had to help her boyfriend/husband out of the restaurant as he couldn't walk), used foul language and were totally disrespectful to the other diners. Several people at tables around us left, and those of us who were still there when the group left applauded their departure. The staff did nothing! We reported this to the reception staff and, at the least, hoped for a response from someone telling us they were sorry about our experience, but we heard nothing. Hardly worth the $80 cover fee. At the Grill I asked for drawn butter for my prawns and the waiter brought me some green butter. I asked for regular drawn butter and his reply was, "Do you realize I have to go all the way down to deck 4 to get that for you? You should have told me when you ordered the prawns you wanted butter". We got the maitre'd's attention and he had drawn butter on the table in 5 minutes. Totally unacceptable response. The Silver Spirit needs some sprucing up. The carpet is well worn on all the stairs. They actually closed off one set of stairs during our whole cruise so they could recarpet it! Ports of call were fabulous and we enjoyed most of the tours we booked. They can skip Albania in the future, it's not ready for tourists quite yet. Our tour to the Blue Eye Spring was a waste of time. The tour busses had nowhere to park so we had to walk quite a distance to and from the Spring, and once there you could hardly see the Spring for the hundreds of tourists diving and swimming in the Spring. A long way to go for nothing! Read Less

Once again Silversea delivered. Having booked onboard last year to do back to back cruises from Venice to Istanbul and then into the Black Sea, our itinerary had been changed due to the political situation in Ukraine. Whilst this meant that we were visiting some of the same ports twice, on an port intensive cruise this gave us the chance to create our own sea days, sometimes with only a handful of other passengers on board. Sailing out of Venice late at night was magical, giving a completely different perspective of this bustling city. We took Silversea excursions in some of the ports and all were enjoyable, informative and set at the right level. However the highlight being Discovering Photography with Ivo Pervan in Trogir when my husband along with Ira Feldman from Silversea who was escorting the tour were the only people participating. Having travelled with Silversea before we were looking forward to dinning in Stars Supper Club, however unlike before when it has featured Jazz (as it advertises it does), now it has middle of the road music and seems to have lost its way. The other Restaurants however lived up to our expectations and lunch in Seshin was a nice change. On what in fact the 2nd cruise the menu on the Pool deck changed, whilst retaining some of the old favourites some interesting new offerings appeared. I cannot leave this review without mentioning Yun the acupuncturist on board. With one session he relieved a problem my husband had lived with for over 20 years and stopped the dizziness I had had for over 8 months. His approach to solving the problems we presented was methodical and thorough and we cannot recommend him enough to fellow travellers. The highlight of the cruise however was the 3 performances by 2 soloists from the Bolshoi Ballet during what should have been the Black Sea cruise. Their performances in the show Lounge were enthralling and, whilst working in a somewhat restricted area, still managed to incorporate leaps and lifts. Read Less
