I found this trip as a special in January and booked it true HAL, I'm so glad I did it was amazing.
From the captain down the crew was outstanding, one of my best cruises yet.
Fun facts of the day were my highlights, captain and staff captain very friendly and eat meals in the Lido.
From the cabin stewards to the dinning room stewards it was excellent, off course on a long cruise you get ...
My wife and I booked this cruise due to its itinerary. However, it appears to us that HAL is relying on its past reputation with older cruise passengers and not putting much effort into providing a new shipboard experience. For example, the Canaletto and Pinnacle restaurant menus have not changed in at least 10 years.
Boarding in Fort Lauderdale was quick and easy. A dedicated ‘Mariner 4 and ...
This itinerary is amazing! We enjoyed many great ports, highlighted by Rio and the ports of the Amazon. It was a bucket list cruise for me.
We have spent a total of 90 days on the Veendam, 83 of them with Capt. Van der Wahl and cruise director Christina. Love them! Total confidence in the competence of this captain who has guided us through an ice field in Greenland and shallow waters ...
The Amazon River has been on my "todo" list for a few decades. This cruise also went to Rio at Carnival time so that was an extra plus we didn't really plan for. But it was a great combination - the craziness of Rio at Carnival time followed by the Amazing Amazon River cruise up to Manaus.
We liked the staff. Cruise director, dining room managers were all very capable and professional. Our ...
This was a 48 day RT from Fort Lauderdale that included a few Caribbean isles, Brazil coastal ports including Rio at Carnaval and finally the Amazon to Manaus and back. The Amazon was always on our "someday" list, Rio and Carnaval were not, but this cruise came up at a good price and so we grabbed it on fairly short notice (almost too short given that the Brazil visas arrived only a few days ...
We were lucky to have some of the best weather of the season with only one rough sea-night that unfortunately prevented us from going to the Falklands. The rest of the time, we had some strong winds, etc. but no rain and relatively calm seas so the scenery was spectacular. One ship pilot in the Beagle Channel said we had the nicest day he could remember since 1975!
We spent 3 nights in Buenos ...
Embarkation in Buenos Aires was a bit chaotic as there were 3 large cruise ships in port that day. You needed to pay attention to which line-up you were in and who you should give your luggage to. We had a fairly long wait in the terminal. We had expected to be onboard the Veendam for lunch but had to seek out a shop and buy a sandwich while waiting to board. Once we got past security, the ...
This was my sixth cruise, from Buenos Aires to Santiago trough the freaking waters of Cape Horn, actually sea was mostly calm.
Embarking at BA took 2+ hours waiting, passengers of 3 ships had to pass migration controls, but finally got to our cabin and baggage was there.
The ocean view cabin was spacious, with a 3 seats couch convertible to bed. Having read in other review that the steward after ...
This was our first cruise with HAL and probably the last one. We've cruised with other companies before and HAL is not our favorite. The reason we choice this cruise was the destination, the specific week(s), and the last-minute awesome deal. We were traveling with 2 children.
The embarkation in Buenos Aires was not the best one we've seen. Thousands of people stuck in one building waiting ...
February 18 -- March 5, 2013 Veendam
This particular cruise was blessed with good weather--little rain, warm temperatures (66 F) and reasonable seas. Weather was so good, we actually made it to the Falklands.
We had one of the "A" Veranda suites at the aft end of deck 9. The balcony was usually large and we could see sights on both the left and right. It was well worth the price. This ...
