Cruise highlights were the fiords of Alaska

We are fairly seasoned travellers, looking for and adult environment and great trips. Between my wife and I, her on her 13 cruise, we found the Zaandam, our first HA cruise, to be not up to par. The water leak in our room that covered a third of the carpet was one thing, and was graciously compensated for by a meal in the paid restaurant. That was by far the best mean on the trip. The ...

We chose this cruise because of the free cruise for 3rd and 4th passengers and excellent price for the cruise/land package. This is an older ship but well maintained and our only complaint was a smelly hallway on deck one from time to time. Our ocean view cabin was a little bigger than we expected and we had enough room for clothes and luggage storage. Dining was above average, we ate second ...

This was my first cruise and the experience was wonderful. We had chosen HAL on the recommendation of a friend. The other 5 in my group had all done at least one cruise before, so I was the lone "rookie". A bit of concern the night before we left Vancouver (we had flown in from New Jersey a day early) as we saw there were also 2 other ships in port at 1 Canada Place. But, we were able to ...

We sailed from Vancouver port to Seward in June. Overall experience was very good. Vancouver port: Got to the port at 3.30pm. Went through US Immigration first. We were the last one in the line. People who came earlier were in line for at least 3 to 4 hours due to long line. We were in line for 1.5 hours. Pros of coming late: 1. Wait time in line is less (which means you can spend more time in ...

Good cruise and land tour but HAL not for us!

This was our first HAL cruise. We have cruised about 12 other times on Carnival, Norwegian and Celebrity. This was a cruise/land combination (Double Denali). The Zaandam is smaller so that it can go through the inside passage (about 1200 passengers). The cabin was very nice and spacious (ocean view). The decor of the ship was clean and simple with a musical theme. Lots of space to move ...

My husband and I are seniors and sail with HAL or Royal Caribbean, over a dozen cruises. We live on Vancouver Island, a 6 hour journey to Vancouver, our embarkation port. I search previous review of the Zaandam with identical cruises (time of year, ports, excursions). I appreciate all the info I was able to scrounge and that the contributors as this contributed to the success of our cruise. I ...

We have sailed before with Holland America and enjoyed previous cruises. They were our first choice for a cruise to Alaska. Used their shuttle service from the airport to the port and had excellent device from them. The driver was knowledgeable and entertaining. We found the Vancouver port terminal extremely busy due to the number of ships in port, and pretty inconvenient as they shuffled ...

After booking the 14-day round-trip cruise (first cruise, first time in Alaska) I became a little nervous after reading reviews on Cruise Critic and wondered if we'd made a mistake. Happily, we did not and will take HAL again for another cruise. Our stateroom (Verandah deck with balcony) was much more spacious than some reviews had led me to believe--certainly larger than some "boutique" hotel ...

We were on the Zaandam Sept 6 for 7 days. We then took a land tour for 4 nights in Denali. We drove to Seattle and spend the night heading to the air port the next day. Our HAL bus picked us up at the air port. This bus trip cost us $65 each. We stayed in Seattle because returning the flights were direct and cheaper than trying to get to Vancouver from Anchorage. When leaving for the ...

We took the Alaska north bound cruise leaving on August 9. The ship traveled from Vancouver to Seward. My first impression was the ship was not very large and a bit old. It carries about 1500 passenger which actually was faster when going to shore excursions. I think the average age of the passengers was about 60. We love the different options of restaurants, i.e., open table, fixed ...
