picked this cruise because of start and finish in Vancouver rather than flying one way.
99% of passengers were retired, staff were very attentive, dining menus were varied. went to Rudy's Sel De Mer one evening , the meal was excellent as was the waitress, only fault was that we felt rushed when the entree came minutes after the appitisers. After asking the waitress to slow down dessert came ...
We sailed from Vancouver on April 12. It was cold for the first 3 days and the last 3 days. Even the Canadians were wearing their coats outside. Many people hung out on the aft pool deck because there is no smoking on the ship except for a designated area on the aft pool deck. There is no cigar lounge. Many people were seasick the first day due to rough seas.
The mid-ship pool is in a ...
For perspective, we have cruised over 50 times starting in 1981 and are now in our mid 60’s. We are 4 star mariners with HAL and Elite with Princess. We have also cruised with celebrity, crystal, Oceania, Royal Caribbean and a bunch of lines that have been incorporated into other lines.
The great and good.
We were impressed with the consistency of the quality of the meals in MDR. We were on ...
The service was pretty good but no one went above the basics. The food was definitely a disappointment! The menu sounded great but what we were served did not reflect what was written! That applied to the appetizers, meat (chicken was usually the best choice), veggies were mundane and the desserts were repetitive. I don't care for spicy or exotic tasting things but it all just tasted the same, ...
We chose this cruise due to the number of sea days as well as it left from Vancouver, BC. Having been on several other HAL cruises I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the food in the main dining room, didn't seem quite up to par and very long wait for meals. The wait staff seemed very busy and not as chatty as on previous cruises. We like to have a set dining time and absolutely loved ...
We enjoyed this 18 day cruise to Hawaii and back, the longest cruise we've taken. There were five sea days in each direction, a great time to relax and explore the ship.
Our veranda cabin was spacious with plenty of storage and a good size bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Our room stewards kept it clean and supplied with plenty of big towels and ice. All the staff we encountered were smiling ...

I have taken one cruise on Holland America back in 2004 to Alaska on the Old Statendam. This trip to Hawaii will complete a bucket list item - vacationing in all 50 states. A note about me – I am a solo cruiser, retired ...
My wife and I booked this cruise because we got a great deal on the fare. We booked an inside guaranteed room which Holland America chooses, which turned out to be an extra large stateroom in the rear cent er of the main deck, the lowest deck.
The selection and quality of the food was only average. The cruise actually started for us in Seattle and was 18 days, and we ate in the dining room ...
First time on the Westerdam, but have sailed on her sister, the Oosterdam 3 times. Loved the ship, but it is just slightly tired and would love to see it AFTER the refurb in April. Public spaces were great, and enjoyable. After rehab, casino will be non-smoking, which will be fantastic! Current casino smoke gets into stairways/elevators for 1-2 floors above & below, which is disgusting! Most ...
We chose this cruise because we live in Vancouver and didn't have to fly anywhere, we also love the 5 sea days each way.
Embarkation took a very long time - our luggage got to our room before we did. Disembaraktion was very easy.
I found the ship poorly laid out. It is a bunch of small, chopped up rooms with pillars every time you turn around. There are so many pillars in the Vista ...
