The Nieuw Amsterdam seems a little dated compared to the Koningsdam and other Pinnacle class ships. We were very pleased with our Verandah cabin and the MDR and Lido food was better than on a recent cruise on the Koningsdam. We have tried the specialty restaurants on past cruises but don't think it's worth the cost. The option to add extra $$ menu items in the MDR is not a bad idea! The BB King ...

We have sailed on HAL many times. This time it was a seven day Vancouver to Whittier (Anchorage). Last August we sailed on the same ship out and back from Seattle. This was my second trip to Alaska and my first time on Holland America. I was really impressed with this beautiful ship. It looked fresh and felt luxurious. There were plenty of elevators and lots of quiet places throughout the ship where one could settle in with a good book. The only time it felt crowded was peak times in the buffet.
